Swatches bugs
Hi,
I am using CS5 for doing my design work, I have facing an issues of delete the unused swatches. Normally we will go to Swatches Menu bar and select All Unused, after remove all that will be fine. However, when I open in a new window to copy the template over, the colour swatches will pop out all those unused and make my whole illustrator slow and even pending the window, at the end will prompt error.
I have discuss with my senior art director, which he mention is bugs for the file and not possible to be fixed. However the design work I can't duplicate exactly as that is finalize artwork from my Client. I need help for it, if you need me provide the file, please give me your email, I can send for you to have a look the file.
Regards,
Michael

Hello there,
I've attempted to search the forums but haven't found an answer to this..
Not sure if this issue is a bug (if it's a feature I'd honestly like to disable it but have not found a way to do so), but every time I pick a colour out of a swatch library, such as one of the pantones, the floating window automatically scrolls down so that the colour I chose appears at the very last row of the swatches. So basically, if I click on a colour that is in the middle of the swatches panel, the panel scrolls down so that colour I picked is now at the bottom, which becomes quite annoying since you have to scroll up to see the colours that were previously below the currently selected one. I have not observed a behaviour like that in CS2.
And while we're on the topic of CS2 vs. CS3, I have also noticed that scrolling the panels in general produces a noticeable lag. There is also a lag when dragging the panels around the screen. I suspect it has to do with the face lift all of the CS3 applications have received but is that normal, for it to behave as if I was running Illustrator on a G3?
Thank youNot a bug, please do a SMC reset again. Follow the directions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't help please reset the PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Or finally you may have a corrupt cache, restart in Safe Mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 -
Bug? Can change swatches with arrow keys?
I use the Live Paint option and the Live Paint bucket often. It is really convenient to change the swatch I am using by using the left-right arrow keys to change my swatch chosen in the Swatch Palette. But in CS6, if I am doing so, and the next swatch chosen is a percentage tint of another color (for example, I have a swatch Blue, and a swatch Blue 85%, which is the Blue Swatch tinited to 85% in the color palette and then made into a saved swatch), the "select" box around the swatch disappears, and I can no longer change the swatch choice without re-clicking on it.
I can change easily between swatches that are not percentages of the original, with no problem. CS5 and all earlier versions that had this feature had no problem whatsoever.
Huh????All swatches are CMYK creations by me, then I choose Global. So, I get swatches called things like, Skin Dark, Skin Med, Skin Light. Then, I want something a tint of one of these. So in the color Palette with a Swatch chosen, I slide tint to say 50%. Then I make a new swatch ("Skin Light 50%", global). Using the arrow keys, when I get to this new % swatch, it deselects, and I can't "scroll" through the swatches, as the "white outline" selection disappears and the swatch selection stays on this % swatch.

Color picker bug in photoshop CC
Hey guys,
Has anybody seen this bug yet.
This will pop up on a new document when trying to change colors. It shows with the color picker, the swatch panel, hitting d or x. However alt-backspace and ctrl-backspace work.
Rebooting photoshop does not help, nor does shift, alt, ctrl on reboot.
At first I thought it was the document itself, but it also occurs with file>new>web 800x600.
If it helps, the error does not show with no document open (all documents are closed)
And now for my specs:

Color Shift Happening When Exporting - Bug in Acrobat Export?
Hi, we are using InDesign CS3 and trying to output a file to send to a printer. We are desiring to have all colors converted to the printer's CMYK color space upon exporting (they sent us their ICC profile).
But we are getting a bizarre bug that I cannot figure out. It seems like it's actually a software bug, not an issue with settings. I'll try to describe the issue here:
Upon using 'Convert to Destination (Preserver Numbers or Not)' in the PDF export dialog in InDesign (using PDF/X-4 setting), using the 'Document CMYK' profile, there is a shift in color for 1 particular element. We have a grayscale image of a bunch of dots (black dots on solid white background) that is placed in a frame in InDesign. This image is 'colorized' in InDesign by setting an image color and a frame color (the image color appears as the 'foreground' and the frame color is the 'background'). We've been doing this all the way back to the Quark days (many years). But if the 'background/frame' color is a combination of C+M+Y (with no black), the Magenta and Yellow values are shifted to the Yellow and Black channels (for example - 52c, 5m, 10y, 0k becomes 52c, 0m, 5y, 10k).
I have never run into this before, and we've run this job with the same element many times now over the last couple years. But I have always used 'No Color Conversion' in my PDFs in the past. So it has something to do with the 'conversion'.
So far I've tried:
- Creating new document with just the single element, also created from scratch. So it's not an error in the file.
- Starting with different profiles (to make sure the profile wasn't corrupt).
- Choosing 'Preserve Numbers' or not when outputting PDF.
- All sorts of color combinations. It also appears that if there is black in the color, this value gets shifted to the magenta channel, then the magenta & yellow bump down.
- Checked the grayscale image to make sure it was flat, and using pure black & white colors. It is.
I've also tried printing to Distiller (we have Acrobat 8 Pro), but the settings are a lot different here so I'm not sure if I set it up properly. I made a duplicate of the default PDFX3 2002 profile, then edited the color settings to 'Convert Everything to CMYK' and set our printer's profile as the CMYK Color Space. But images are converted to 'DeviceCMYK' and not the profile I put.
- ANYBODY have any ideas or even know where I would start???
THANKS. This job needs to go out, but I'm also trying to get a solid workflow down for the future.Looks like the issue in the CM thread.
I'm trying to replicate the issue but haven't done it yet. Still grasping at straws
1. Did the ID doc ever undergo Convert to Profile?
2. In Swatch Panel do "Add unnamed colors". Make sure the grayscale is colored with swatches, not colors created in the Color Picker
3. Do the color values in the swatches have crazy decimal values? Is the color mode of the swatches CMYK?
4. What format are the grayscale links - TIFF or PSD?
5. Make certain they are links, not embedded (I'm sure they are links though)
6. The colorization - are there tints applied to the object colors, or are they 100%? -
Save Custom Swatch Folders?
Hi,
can I somehow save individual custom Swatch folders? It seems to save only the "Default Swatches" folder (which makes the option for other folders somewhat pointless)...
Is it also possible to adjust the size of the swatch icons/squares?
Thanks.Unfortunately not. You may only customize and save your default Swatch to be available across all documents by default.
Multiple Swatches/folders option is provided to let you organize (or restrict) the colors for a given project only and gets saved for corresponding project .
You may wish to try out new workflows using the Kuler Panel (that lets you reuse themes) as explained here: Flash Professional Help | Working with Kuler Panel
If you'd like to make any suggestions, post them here: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Illustrator - Pattern Swatch / Clipping mask issue
I'm currently working in Illustrator CS6. I'm creating pattern swatches and have successfully created 20 - but 4 are giving me the following issue.
When I drag the perfect swatch tile into swatches it appears as so instead of the perfect tile:
"New pattern swatch 3" has a white space on the right. Which sometimes when I create the swatch takes up half of the 'swatch.'
When I go to create a shape and apply the pattern, I am left with an empty box.
When I double click to adjust the pattern I get this dialog box:
When I go to adjust the bounding box, to see where my pattern is - this crazy mess happens:
Further investigation and deleting items to see whats happening:
Bits of my pattern appear, but not sure why the other bars are there.
I'm having this issue with four very different patterns. But I have also succesfully created more complicated ones. Not sure why this is happening.
Any help is greatly appreciated!Hey everyone,
I am in the same version, same file. I have also tried starting from scratch in another file just to make sure. Same issue.
I have templates of what i want my patterns to be, so I have tried to make the patterns both ways. Starting from my original art - expanding all shapes and making them so they will tile perfectly.
1. with clipping mask. 2. released mask, and expanded shape. 3. perfect tile.
from scratch, made to tile perfectly.
Same issue for both:
To make sure it wasn't only this one I tried a different pattern that was giving me the same error before hand.
I tried with original art which didn't work, so I quickly recreated with squares. Same tile, one time it was empty producing same issue as above. And second time it did this:
1. What tile is supposed to look like 2. Tile applied to shape - but the pattern swatch icon is empty?
Maybe this is a program bug? -
CS3 - New features or bugs? Why does CS3 do this?
Just moved over to CS3 and Leopard from CS2 on Tiger and Ive noticed a few annoying things which were not a problem in CS2, they are:
When I copy and paste an artwork from one artboard to another it doesnt paste it correctly. For some strange reason it has resized one of the placed images and put it on a different part of the artwork and it has also randomly moved some of the other placed images. If I group the entire artwork first and then copy and paste it its fine but I dont want to group the entire artwork as I want all the objects and images to stay on their relevant layers. Why does this happen? Never been a problem in any previous version of Illustrator. Perhaps there is a setting or something? or a bug?
When you save a workspace Ive noticed that the swatch palette does not remember the list view settings so you have to reset this every time you open Illustrator. a bug?
Every time I make a PDF by using the save a post script first and then drag into Distiller method its always very large in file size and printing directly through PDF 8.0 doesnt even work at all. The file just causes the desktop printer to pause. In fact the only way I can get a PDF to work at a decent file size is by doing a save as PDF which isnt always practical. a bug?
any ideas?"If you don't want to group everything, try selecting everything you want to copy and dragging it onto your new artboard (as you would in Photoshop)."
Unfortunately this isn't really an option because I want to make use of the Paste in Front function where you can paste an artwork on the same size board in the same place each time.
"Copy/paste: bug. (you can sort of get around it by grouping the stuff you copy)"
This also isn't an option because I don't want to loose all my layers by grouping the entire artwork.
This is a really bad bug, especially for anyone who works in the Packaging industry. Any ideas if Adobe are aware of it and are planning on fixing it? -
Color Swatches in Toolbar for Fill and Stroke are not working properly.
The color swatches in toolbar for fill and stroke are not functioning as they should. When I select an object on the artboard, the swatches display fine in the toolbar for what they should be. However, when I double-click on those swatches from within the toolbar to modify the color, the color which comes up is #000000 instead of the actual color it should be.
I am using 16.2.1 (cloud) for Mac OS 10.8.2
I've submitted a bug report, but want to know if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to resolve the issue.
Also, the eyedropper tool is buggy and occasionally places the #000000 into an object instead of the characteristics the eyedropper is selecting. I don't have any hidden layers or weird groupings, it just randomly decides when it is going to work or not.
I've never had these issues on previous versions of illustrator and have been proficient in all versions since 2007.Double click the eyedropper, and turn on appearance, is off by default.
For your #000000 color problem that also likely is related to appearance setting. You may have for example have some with #000000 at the character level, and another color at the type level. -
Hi All
Working with an older version (CS4) and cant find an answer or bug fix anywhere. As you can see in my screenshot, I have a problem with fine white lines going through my pattern. Its a swatch I made and I have checked there are no strokes anywhere. I did turn off Anti-Aliased Artwork in general but the results were no white lines but lots of pixilation obviously so that didnt work. Yes I did use pathfinder. Lots of places Ive looked say its a bug but no one gives a fix.
I know they wont print but this is for a digital paper pack so its imperative that it displays for a perfect view.
Can anyone help or maybe point me in a tutorial that makes perfect polka dots another way. Thankyou so muchBostonBay,
What I mean by changing the pattern is to place the corners ot the tiles midway between (the centres of) dots instead of in the centre of a dot
More particularly, either moved up/down and to the left/right by half the centre distance along a line with a slope of +/-45 degrees in connexion with a horizontal/vertical tile, or by half the centre distance along a horizontal/vertical in connexion with a tile having a slope of +/-45 degrees.
Either will create a tile with whole dots surrounded by white at all the sides. The former will look the same as your image (only without the hairline gaps), but it will have an irregular distribution of white round the dots. The latter will have a regular distribution of white round the dots, but will need to be rotated by +/-45 degrees to look the same.
There are different terms to describe (ranges of) colours, I might have used a more detailed one, such as purplish red.
Pink may also be seen as a woolly term, covering a range of pale reds and reddishnesses. -
Bug Alert: Problems with font color in CS5
I'm noticing a problem that occurs when I try to change the color of some point type on my artboard. I type in some text, it's selected and I use the eyedropper or click on a swatch to select a new color for the text, and the font stays black. The active color on the color panel and the tool panel for the fill has changed to the new color I selected, but the font displays in black.
I can even select something else, then go back and select the problem type and see that the color panel "thinks" it's blue, but the text displays as black. The only remedy seems to be re-typing the word, essentially starting over. I've rebooted to no avail. This seems like a bug, because it pops up about every other or every third time I try to work with type.
At first I ignored it because it was occurring with a new font, and I thought the problem was the font - but now it's happening with all my tried-and-true fonts.
Is anyone else having this problem? The only way I know this to happen is if there is a new fill which has been added via the appearance panel and the fill has been drag to the bottom of the characters in the panel.
Or you have the type tool active and the cursor is active but the tex is not actually selected. Like such -
BUG: Info panel displays incorrect Hue values
Recently, I've been doing a lot of work with color in Fireworks and came across the following bug, which appears to be a longstanding issue within the application. Rather than keeping it to myself, I figured I'd post it here in addition to submitting a bug report with Adobe. So here it is...
Hue values displayed within the Info panel (in HSB mode) do not consistently match the values displayed in the Color Mixer panel—including basic colors such as pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The values are 1 degree off—most often below the Color Mixer value, but sometimes above (as with Magenta). This holds true whether using with the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
For example, the following inconsistencies were observed when sampling the centermost horizontal strip within CS6's default Color Cubes swatches picker. Note that over 50% of these colors are affected by the issue.
The Color Mixer seems to display the correct values, while the Info panel's values appear to be incorrect. Note that this issue affects the HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between both panels.
This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, Fireworks CS5.1 and Fireworks 8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
Here's the bug report submitted for this issue:
Product name: Fireworks
Product Version: 12.0.0.236
Product Language: English
Your operating system: Mac OS 10.6.8 (Intel-based)
******BUG******
Concise problem statement: The Info panel displays incorrect Hue values for many colors—including pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The Hue values are usually 1 degree below the value displayed in the Color Mixer panel (e.g., 59 instead of 60 for Yellow) but sometimes 1 degree above (e.g., 301 instead of 300 for Magenta). This is true whether using the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
Steps to reproduce bug:
In an open Fireworks document, open the Info, Color Mixer, and Swatches panels. Within the Color Mixer and Info panels, set the color mode to HSB.
Draw a Rectangle and set its fill to Yellow (#FFFF00) using the Color Picker.
Observe the Hue values displayed in the Color Mixer and Info panels.
Select the Eyedropper (I) tool, and sample the rectangle's fill color. Again, observe the Hue values displayed in both the Color Mixer and Info panels.
Results: In both steps 3 and 4, the Hue value for pure Yellow (#ffff00) appears as 60 degrees in the Color Mixer panel but 59 degrees in the Info panel.
Expected results: The Hue for pure Yellow (#ffff00) should appear as 60 degrees in both panels.
Note that this issue affects the Info panel's HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between panels. Also note that this bug affects over 50% of the "pure" hues within CS6's Color Cubes swatches palette. For more info, see the following forum post:

This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, CS5.1 and FW8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).I haven't done anything other than add my footage to the timeline. I have 2 layers (1 targa seq and 1 png seq). As I move my mouse from the Timeline to the Comp Panel, the color values flash for a split second and go away. If I press Opt+1 (2, 3, and 4) the Info Panel displays the color for that one pixel but the values go blank as soon as I move my mouse. This happens in the Comp Panel mostly. If I open a Footage or Layer Panel, sometimes the values show, sometimes not. Never had this issue in previous versions.

BUG: Rectangles inside FW symbols become blurry/misaligned
There seems to be a problem with the use of Rectangles within Symbols in Fireworks CS6, CS5 and earlier.
The problem is that they become blurry. More exactly, they become repositioned within the symbol—aligned to the half-pixel—and their edges become anti-aliased as a result. For example, here's a series of rectangles that I'd created on the canvas to visualize a set of color swatches:
Here's the same set of rectangles after having been saved as a Symbol and imported into another document:
At first I thought this was a problem with Symbols in general, but then I discovered that it only occurred with Rectangles—a.k.a. "rectangle primitives", which are a special kind of grouped vector object created using the Rectangle tool—and only when the contents of the Symbol in which they resided had a pixel width or height ending in an odd number (i.e., 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9).
THE PROBLEM
Here's what I've observed, in greater detail. Start with two Rectangles, 99 x 99 pixels—one with a stroke only, the other with a fill only. Select the first Rectangle and choose Modify > Symbol > Convert to Symbol, and then do the same for the second. Save the file. Everything looks OK, right?
Now close the file, and reopen it. Have a look at the thumbnail previews within your Document Library. They look a little... fuzzy, yes?
Click on the name of one of the symbols in the Document Library to open the Symbol Properties dialog, and then click OK. Now look on the canvas...
Yikes. The symbol instance containing the stroked Rectangle (on the left) has become quite blurred. Now, back within the Document Library panel, click on the thumbnail preview of the other symbol to enter Edit Symbol mode, and then return to the document canvas...
Yikes again. The symbol instance containing the fill Rectangle (on the right) has also become blurred—horizontally, in this case. They both look worse now.
Note that it's not the instances nor their placement on the canvas that's the problem—you can move them anywhere on the canvas, and they'll still look just as bad—but the symbols themselves. Double click on one of the symbols to enter Edit Symbol mode and select the rectangle. Its X-Y position in the Properties panel will look normal, but if you open the Transform panel extension (http://www.senocular.com/fireworks/extensions/?entry=572), you'll see the real story: The rectangle has been re-aligned to the half-pixel.
Importantly, the trigger here isn't the dimensions of the rectangle, per se, but of the symbol contents as a whole. If the symbol contents have an even-numbered dimension, alignment remains crisp and pixel-perfect along that dimension; if the symbol contents have an odd-numbered pixel dimension, a blurry misalignment occurs. For example, here's a series of "even" rectangles (20 x 20 pixels) that, with their single-pixel spacing, comprise an odd-numbered selection (125px), shown before and after symbol conversion:
Incidentally, the same problem reveals itself when you import these symbols into another document using the Import Symbols command within the Document Library options menu.
THE FIX
The patch for this bug, once it's occurred, is to edit the symbol. In Edit Symbol mode, select all objects—or just the misaligned Rectangle objects—and choose Modify > Snap To Pixel.
The fly in the ointment here is that, in many cases, the original alignment is not preserved. The rectangles may now be misaligned in relation to other objects in the symbol, as well as to other objects on the canvas. Therefore, to finish the job, you may need to also nudge the rectangle(s) by a pixel horizontally or vertically using the keyboard arrow keys.
The good news is that once a symbol has been fixed using Snap To Pixel, its alignment and clarity should remain fixed.
THE WORKAROUND
The surest way to avoid this issue, of course, is to avoid including Rectangles in your symbols—not the geometric shape, but the grouped vector object as it's created by the Rectangle tool. Therefore, prior to converting a selection to a symbol, check for any Rectangles within the selection and ungroup them using the Modify > Ungroup command, which will convert them into simple paths, unaffected by this bug. (Chances are, by the time you're converting these objects to symbols, you won't need the fluid resizing or adjustable rounded corners that Rectangle objects offer; the trick will be remembering to perform this extra step.)
THE BUG REPORT
Lastly, here's the bug report that I submitted to Adobe regarding this issue:
Product name: Fireworks
Product Version: 12.0.0.236
Product Language: English
Your operating system: Mac OS 10.6.8
******BUG******
Concise problem statement: Rectangles within Symbols become blurry if the width or height of the symbol contents is an odd number (e.g., 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, etc.). The blurriness is caused by misalignment of Rectangles on the half-pixel within the symbol, and becomes apparent upon closing and reopening the document and either a) viewing the symbol's Document Library thumbnail preview, or b) clicking to view Symbol Properties or to Edit Symbol. It can also be observed upon Importing the symbol into the Document Library of another document.
Steps to reproduce bug:
In an open FW document, draw a Rectangle and set the width and/or height to an odd number (e.g., 99 x 99 pixels).
Select the Rectangle and Convert to Symbol.
Save and close the document.
Reopen the document. In the Document Library, double-click the symbol name to open the Symbol Properties dialog, and click OK. (Or double-click the symbol preview to Edit, and then return to the document canvas.)
Results: The Symbol instance appears blurry on the canvas. (The Symbol itself also appears blurry within Edit mode.)
Expected results: The Symbol should appear as it was originally created, without a loss of clarity or change in alignment.
Note that this bug can occur whether a rectangle's dimensions are even or odd; the determining factor is the dimensions of the symbol contents as a whole. However, the bug affects Rectangles only; it has not been observed with paths, ellipses, auto shapes, bitmaps, or groups.
The Transform panel extension was used to view the precise pixel alignment of objects and determine the cause of the blurriness.
For more information, including graphic demonstrations and workarounds, please see the following forum post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1073489?tstart=0
This bug has also been observed in Fireworks 8 and CS5 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
POSTSCRIPT
Amazingly, this bug can also affect Symbol instances on the canvas that have been "broken apart". To see this for yourself, create a symbol like one of the preceding examples, select the symbol instance on the canvas and choose Modify > Symbol > Break Apart. Save and close the file, then reopen it. The "broken apart" instance on the canvas will now appear blurry/misaligned(!).Thanks, Petros_!
That's good input. If this issue is important to you, consider submitting your own bug report. Feel free to copy and paste from mine, if it helps. (Just be sure to verify all results on your own setup first.)
Whenever possible, I'm trying to post bug reports on this forum in addition to submitting them to Adobe. Partially, this is to allow me to include graphics or go into slightly more detail, and partially it's to make bug reporting more transparent—to raise awareness of known issues among fellow users and reduce duplication of effort, to create a record, and to increase public visibility of these issues. It also allows for corrections or additions to be made by myself or other users.
However, it's not a true bug reporting system. So we don't know whether the Fireworks team has looked at this yet, whether it has been or will be assigned to someone, or whether your comment on this thread will be read by anyone on the Fireworks team.
Nevertheless, it is quite an investment of time tracking down a bug and writing it up like this, so I appreciate the kudos! -
Persistent swatch libraries not persistent in CS5
I love the Middle Ages swatch library.
But everytime I open Illustrator CS5 the library is nowhere to be seen, even though I repeatedly tell it to be "persistent".
Funny thing is, when I go through the steps to make it persistent again, the option is already checked.
Is this a bug?Hi, thanks. They are in Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator Cs5 > Presets > en_
US
Should I move them into the swatches folder? Could try that. -
I frequently use Pantone solid coated colors in my work, and have to open that palette anew each time Illustrator has been restarted. I know that in CS4 I could keep that palette available, but I haven't been successful doing the same in CS5. I have saved my workspace, but the Pantone palettes disappear when Illustrator quits.
Any ideas?Hello! For everyone that even after doing all of the suggestions we could find online, I finally figured it out
If you have FontExplorer Pro installed, then the plugins are the ones at fault. They released an update (that I still haven't been able to install since it gives me an error when doing so) but this are the listed bugs that were fixed:
Plugin Version for Illustrator CS 5, 5.1 and CS6
Color swatches are now correctly displayed and no longer produce an empty window.
Fixed a problem which prevented linked files from being shown or placed in an Illustrator document.
Resolved an issue which sporadically caused Illustrator to crash during font activation Font activation did not occur when document names contained an umlaut character (Ä Ö Ü)
Hope this sheds some light on this frustrating issue! I tweeted Linotype (@Linotype_com) so if anyone wants to follow them or myself @iKitty I'll be RT their answer or update when I am successful updating them.
So in the meantime, just disable the plugins and everything should be ok.
