Swatches disappeared!

Hello Adobe Forum,
I have adobe CS5 and when I opened my software today, I discovered my swatches were gone from my tool bar. They are not entirely gone because I can get to them from my swatch libraries, however, I cannot drag and drop these swatches into my toolbar in order to click on them. I am trying to use the pen tool to draw a simple shape and the only swatches that come up is the none option (the white box with the red line going through it) and the registration, which I admitadly don't know much about.
Can anyone help me with this. I am using a Mac. I cannot figure out how to draw my shapes without a fill and using a black outline.

Are you trying to ink over an image file (jpeg or the like) by just opening the file. An image file can be opened but has no swatches associated with it. You can use Open Swatch Library>Default Swatches from the Swatch panel flyout to add them. To have just a black line, select the Pen tool and change the color in the Color panel.

CS5 illustrator swatches disappeared

All the pantone swatches have disappeared in illustrator.
I have:completed all updates, reinstalled illustrator, turned all fonts off, deleted preferences, copied the preset swatch folder, restarted and zapped the PRAM. I don't know what else to do to get the swatched to show up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quit the application.
Download the file Traditional_Pantone.zip and extract it.
Place the whole folder in \Adobe Illustrator CS6\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books
Restart your application.

InDesign CS 3 - swatches disappear

Hello,
I am in InDesign CS3 and suddenly my swatches are all gone. When I click on the swatches tab, it's empty. When I try to load swatchs by going to "applications - adobe indesign - presets - swatches libary" they're all grayed out.
Also, if I go to the color picker and "add to swatches" it doesn't get added. The swatches panel remains blank.
I've tried opening other InDesign documents, it's the same.
I tried trashing the InDesign preference file, (which I hope was "com.adobe.indesign.plist" I can't seem to find it anymore after relaunching the program), quitting and restarting, but still no swatches.
On a MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.6.
Any suggestions?

Why does my color swatches disappear randomly?

I have a MAC and use CS4.
Sometimes when I use illustrator my color swatches are there and easy to access, change colors or values....blahlblahblah
Other times I have no color swatches in my color window, and no slider bars in the color slider window (No values can be adjusteded/ no bars to adjust)
Only if I use the drop bar on the color box(top right) and change to CYMK or RGB, can I change the color.
This is a bit annoying seeing that I cant figure it out why this happens.
I would show you guys a screen shot, but like i said it only happens randomly.......

This is great - but then how do you get the swatches back? I had a photo in the page and am now creating regular vector boxes but can't find a way to display the swatches! I've tried the pull down, tried show color swatches, show all swatches - but nothing happens no matter what i do.

Bug? Can change swatches with arrow keys?

I use the Live Paint option and the Live Paint bucket often. It is really convenient to change the swatch I am using by using the left-right arrow keys to change my swatch chosen in the Swatch Palette. But in CS6, if I am doing so, and the next swatch chosen is a percentage tint of another color (for example, I have a swatch Blue, and a swatch Blue 85%, which is the Blue Swatch tinited to 85% in the color palette and then made into a saved swatch), the "select" box around the swatch disappears, and I can no longer change the swatch choice without re-clicking on it.
I can change easily between swatches that are not percentages of the original, with no problem. CS5 and all earlier versions that had this feature had no problem whatsoever.

All swatches are CMYK creations by me, then I choose Global. So, I get swatches called things like, Skin Dark, Skin Med, Skin Light. Then, I want something a tint of one of these. So in the color Palette with a Swatch chosen, I slide tint to say 50%. Then I make a new swatch ("Skin Light 50%", global). Using the arrow keys, when I get to this new % swatch, it deselects, and I can't "scroll" through the swatches, as the "white outline" selection disappears and the swatch selection stays on this % swatch.

I use CS6 and when I try to open a ai file from later version I'm told i must select a page from the PDF to open?

I am following tutorials in Adobe Illustrator CC Classroom in a Book, but I use CS6. How can I open the lesson files to display correctly?

I'm having further problems when I open these CC ai lesson files.
All the swatches disappear.
I had not realized there would be such compatibility issues between CS6 and CC.
Yes I am warned when opening files craeted with later versions that there might be some "data loss" but this seems beyond reasonable?

InDesign CS 4 Gradient bug

I've been using InDesign for a few years but only upgraded to CS4 recently. I've come across a behaviour that I'm sure isn't normal.
Create a shape and apply a gradient fill. no worries. Now apply an angle to the fill and then add a colour to the gradient by dragging from the swatches down to the gradient palette. This is where things get strange. The colour swatches that are in the gradient palette disappear whilst you are dragging the new swatch down. Then release the mouse when the swatch is in position. It places in the newly created gradient into your shape but resets the gradient to 0 degrees. Also due to the swatches disappearing in the gradient palette whilst dragging in new colours it makes it hard to position new colours accurately. I'm running Snow Leopard, I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem. Anyway does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to get the gradients to behave as in a CS3.

Your right, it certainly doesn't behave as CS3.
Tested versions 5.0.4 and 6.0.4 on PC running Vista Ultimate sp2
CS3 is not maintaining the angle of a gradient as a swatch option but colors can be added without affecting it.
hmm, CS3 - Save a gradient swatch, select it, add a swatch to modify it, containing frames do not update...
double click the icon from the swatch panel to edit and you can make edits which will affect all frames; CS3 & 4
You don't seem to able to add a color to an existing swatch in either version so the only thing i'm seeing is that CS4 does reset the angle when adding a swatch to the ramp.

Disappearing Swatch Library

I frequently use Pantone solid coated colors in my work, and have to open that palette anew each time Illustrator has been restarted. I know that in CS4 I could keep that palette available, but I haven't been successful doing the same in CS5. I have saved my workspace, but the Pantone palettes disappear when Illustrator quits.
Any ideas?

Hello! For everyone that even after doing all of the suggestions we could find online, I finally figured it out
If you have FontExplorer Pro installed, then the plugins are the ones at fault. They released an update (that I still haven't been able to install since it gives me an error when doing so) but this are the listed bugs that were fixed:
Plugin Version for Illustrator CS 5, 5.1 and CS6
Color swatches are now correctly displayed and no longer produce an empty window.
Fixed a problem which prevented linked files from being shown or placed in an Illustrator document.
Resolved an issue which sporadically caused Illustrator to crash during font activation Font activation did not occur when document names contained an umlaut character (Ä Ö Ü)
Hope this sheds some light on this frustrating issue! I tweeted Linotype (@Linotype_com) so if anyone wants to follow them or myself @iKitty I'll be RT their answer or update when I am successful updating them.
So in the meantime, just disable the plugins and everything should be ok.

Swatch library suddenly disappeared and doesn't recognize to reload

I was working on a file as normal and noticed that in a matter of a few minutes, the swatches I had all disappeared. Had left me with none. Rebooted system, didn't help. When I go to reload swatches, it doesn't recognize any of the libraries. HELP!

Help! Lightroom 3 Color Swatch for Adjustment Brush has Disappeared!

I selected the Adjustment Brush and then click on the color swatch icon. I remember changing the value to 0. Then the color swatch icon just disappeared.I've tried reseting everything in the adjustment brush settings but the color swatch icon is still gone. In addition to that, If I click on the Adjustment Brush to activate it and the click anywhere on the photo, the entire photo disappears. Has anyone had this problem? Do you know how to fix this issue? Thanks.

I also tried restarting Ligtroom 3. That did not help. I tried rebooting my computer. That did not help, either.

Custom swatches keep disappearing

Hello,
I am using Illustrator CS4 14.0.0
I have saved a Workspace that includes a User Defined swatch. (see attachment).
Even though I have saved the workspace, when reopening the program, it goes back to the regular swatches that come with the program. Are we not able to save custom swatch panel in a workspace?

Prevent non-global swatches in Smart Objects from disappearing?

After placing an Illustrator file in Photoshop as a Smart Object, then double-clicking the object in Photoshop to edit it, the only swatches that remain in the Swatches panel are global ones. All the other swatches have been removed. (This is with the embedded file that opens; the original is unaffected.)
I assume this is by design, but has anyone figured out a way of preventing it from happening, other than tediously changing every swatch to global before doing the embedding? And yes, I can always re-load the swatches afterwards, but that's also an extra step I'd like to avoid.
This is all CS6 in Windows 8.1.

Changing all swatches to global is easy. Use shift to select the first and last swatch, double click one, and check to global.
If color type is blank as above you will need to set a common color type, for global to hold.

Disappearing Pantone swatches when using only percentages of the swatch

Hi I've come across something what might be a bug in Illustrator CS6..
Here's the thing.. I've made a design in Ai CS6 (with colorspace) and have used several Pantone swatches.
From a few Pantone colors I have used only a percentage of the color, for example the design consists of: 75% of Pantone 485 C, 32% of Pantone 1345 C and 100% of Pantone 154 C.
In the process of the design I have used several other Pantone colors which are not used in the final design, but they are still in the Swatch tab/list.
So when you click on the triangle (upper right corner) > "Select All Unused..", the Pantone colors that are only used as percentages (Pantone 485 C & Pantone 1345 C in the example) are being selected as "Unused" ?!
I have been using Ai CS4 before this version and in that version this wasn't a problem.
I could you percentages of Pantone colors without the swatch being selected as "Unused".
I really don't want to manual delete every unused swatch by dragging it into the trash bin.
It would be such a time wasting handling.
This is really inconvenient as I am working for a print and design company and need to save the Pantone colors that are used in the design, even if they are only a percentage of the Pantone swatch.
Could someone please explain to me why or what the reason is that this is happening..

Brush definition/color swatches have disappeared for pen tool

I'm using illustrator CC on a late 2012 Mac, OSX 10.9.5
I just opened up my pen tool to draw some lines. Among my color options for both the stroke and the fill are.... nothing. That's ok, because I can still hold shift and click to being up the alternative color user interface. But I wonder if this is connected to my more serious problem: When I click on the brush definition dropdown, my choice is... Basic. And nothing else. I can open the brush libarary, and select a bunch of artisitic and bristle brushes, BUT I JUST WANT 3 pt. ROUND! And I can't find it, the dropdown menu has gone blank, where befiore it contained basic, 1 pt, 3pt, 10pt round, etc.
Where did they all go? I'm pretty sure I haven't changed any settings. I just want to be able to draw a line with the pen tool that has rounded ends. This is entirely mysterious to me.
(PS, while I'm complaining, Adobe, seriously, why can't I just pick a variable width profile and a brush definition for a pen stroke rather than having to make the stroke and go back and edit it? Endlessly frustrating. As powerful as this program is, this seems like a really simple thing you guys should include)

Bottom left of the Swatches panel or from the panel flyout (small triangle, upper right) Open Swatch Library gives a whole list. You can use System or even better just copy the image and use File>New and choose an appropriate New Document Profile for the new file and then paste in the image.

Disappearing swatches when printing to PDF.

Ok, so I have a file I'm printing to a PDF so I can pass it on to my printer, it has an array of different colours through it which I have swatches for in the main document, including 2 spot colours.
When I print it, the PDF looks fine, however when I open the outputted PDF in illustrator, none of the swatches are there, it only has the registration, a magenta spot colour and the 'none' swatches. Extremely frustrating as my printer can't tell which spot colours I'm using.
Has anyone encountered this before? Or know a work around? I need all my swatches included in my document.

Ok, I just outputted the file using 'Save as' PDF, rather than printing it.
Seems to have fixed my problem.
