Sweetpacks

Every time I download a new version or update to Flash (and perhaps other Adobe Products) it stealthily installs something called Sweetpacks, which takes over the new tab in my Firefox browser to open a page to Sweetpacks and the Bing question entry.  I must go into config.sys to get rid of it.
I have never seen anything about Sweetpacks when I download an update and strongly object to this practice.
How do I get Adobe to stop this.

Adobe has nothing to do with Sweetpacks and it HAS NEVER been a bundled download from this site with Flash Player. You're downloading whatever you're getting from a third party site.
Sweetpacks is a virus (http://forums.cnet.com/7723-6122_102-591073/how-to-uninstall-sweetpacks-toolbar-bundle-vir us/) and Adobe IS NOT in the business of distributing viruses, "not no way, not no how".
Download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by clicking one of the following links.
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Those links are the installer ONLY - nothing bundled with them.
Do not download ANY updates from anywhere other than this site or from links provided by trusted members here. (people with VIP, Staff or multiple + signs by their usernames. )

  • Please help me remove Sweetpacks from FF and my PC. Sweetpacks INSTALLED ITSELF on my PC laptop.

Sweetpacks showed up on my Windows XP SP3 laptop with a Centrino Duo chip and 2GIG of memory.
I'm trying to get rid of this crap. Their instruction for Firefox is to go to "Tools, then Options, then Setting's???? I do not have a search engine setting, under Options, on my FF browser. Plus everything I've read about this software leads me to believe there may still be numerous hidden or invisible files in Firefox collecting my every move, and in other software on my laptop as well.
There isn't a search setting on FF Options to select a search engine. I know I can select it in the upper right corner search box however, every time I try to add a menu bar, Sweetpacks insert's itself as the search engine. I downloaded Spyhunter, ran an it, and removed 2371 malware files. It still didn't remove all of the Sweetpacks junk...........HELP!!!

Try to reset prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page that refer to Sweetpacks.
*Open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for sweetpacks or sweet via the Search bar at the top of the about:config page.<br />
*Reset all sweetpacks related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.
You can also try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

Somehow, however many times I reset my home page and however I do it, I get Sweetpacks search coming back as my home page. Occasionally, it disappears for a few days but is always back before long. I never want to see it again.

  • I have tried to remove sweetpacks per your intructions but there is no "remove" button on the extensions page for sweetpacks.

I tried the suggestions posted and nothing works. I have tried going to the mozilla extensions page but there is no "remove" button for sweetpacks.
I have also tried "about:config" but when I make the change to have a different homepage (google), the change is not saved, it goes back to sweetpacks.
Again, nothing seems to work even though i removed all the sweetpacks stuff via control panel/remove programs - sweetpacks keeps coming up as my homepage.

    Hi FrankWonka,
Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support. I'm sorry to see that Sweetpacks has overriden Firefox. Let's see how I can help.
First, from what I am aware of, Sweetpacks is a hijacker so it won't be in your Add-ons or about:config. You need to go to your Control Panel (''Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>Uninstall a program)''. There you should find these programs to uninstall: '''SweetIM for Messenger, SweetPacks Toolbar for Firefox, Update Manager for SweetPacks''. ''NOTE: these instructions are based of IE''
If this doesn't work, then you should reset Firefox to factory settings. (''NOTE: your bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, cookies and web form auto-fill information will be saved'') To do this, Click the orange Firefox button at the top left corner of the window, hover over ''Help'' and click ''Troubleshooting Information.'' Click the ''Reset Firefox'' button in the upper right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
If none of this works, please do not hesitate to respond.
P.S. I see you are running Fx24. I recommend upgrading to Fx25 to get the latest bug fixes and security updates. You can upgrade [http://www.firefox.com by clicking here].

  • How do I remove start.sweetpacks when I open another tab

    I found the answer:
    Sweetpacks New Tab for FireFox
    1. In the address bar, type 'about:config' and then click Enter.
    2. You will be notified that you are about to change your settings. Click 'I'll be careful, I promise!'
    3. You will see a Search field, type ‘newtab' and then click 'browser.newtab.url'.
    4. In the box that will be opened, enter the URL that you want to open in the new tab page instead of Sweetpacks and then click OK.

  • Somehow my laptop has a USELESS search program called Sweetpacks installed. How do I get rid of it?

Somehow this completely useless search program called Sweetpacks installed on my computer. I can no longer type a search into my address bar! When I try, now Sweetpacks pulls up completely useless information that is entirely unrelated to the search. For example if I type "facebook" without including the ".com", Sweetpacks pulls up a generic search results page including "Face Cleanser" and "Notebooks". I want it gone! I want to use only Google. I have deleted the add-on in Firefox, and searched my desktop programs. According to my computer this Sweetpacks does not exist! I have changed the default search settings on Firefox back to Google, yet it still reverts to Sweetpacks. Help me get rid of this virus!

  • I downloaded Firefox and it installed sweetpacks on my desktop. How do I get rid of it?

It has infected all my browsers.

    Points of information.
    * Firefox does not ordinarily contain such software. In fact where possible it tries to help protect users.
    * sweetpacks now '''blocklisted''' (bug 88147) by Firefox, although that does not help those already with such software.
*Users may also need to look in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders hidden] folders, for such software
**It may have some correlation with ''toparcade''
** related thread [/questions/960863?page=2#answer-448693] it is a long thread but you may wish to scroll for information and links.
*To regain normal Firefox behaviour it may well be necessary to reset search engines '''after''' uninstalling the errant software
** see [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]] and note the recommended addon searchreset

  • How do I get rid of Sweetpacks on tabs?

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • I have somehow aquired sweetpacks on my firefox browser, so everytime i try to open firefox, it takes over. It has tons of popups and i can not seem to disable

I have gone to the ad ons and can not find anything that has sweetjacks listed. can you please help me, i need to get rid of this as it takes over and runs even though my settings are on bing as my default. I need to use firefox for our system because explorer is not compatible. can someone assist me in finding this issue and getting rid of it?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]

    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Firefox Doesn't display correctly and is very laggy on sites with CloudFlare DDoS Protection

Since 35.0 and above i have been getting weird behaviour on sites with CloudFlare DDoS protection.
When i open the site in a new window, it takes a really long time and sometimes doesn't display at all and gives me a blank page. and now it just starts to say "New Tab" and i can't hit refresh.
When the site actually loads after 20 something attempts, the site is laggy, any action takes upwards of 20 seconds.
Whenever i try to open something, i get a blank page with the URL at tabs. Whenever i try to like or post anything, it delays by 15-20 seconds.
Site i am trying to use with much failure. http://hypixel.net/
    Anyone else having this issue?

hello, please go to ''firefox/tools > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

I got an answer and I replied with a question about the answer, does no show in unanswered questions. I guess replying was not the way to get another anwer, How do I do that?
He said - Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox.
I want to know - Will I still have my bookmarks, history, addons, plugins, etc.? I do not know what plugins and such that I had. What about my pinned tabs and my tabs that where open.
More information - When I try to start Firefox I keep getting the message that I need to restart my computer in order to complete a previous update attempt. I had Sweetpacks on my PC and I do not know where it came from, it took over my home page in Internet Explorer and Ithink caused the issue with Firefox.
Should I do the clean install or try starting Firefox now.

  • How to remove an add-on when the option isn't there?

I have 2 add-ons on for Firefox that I never installed.
One is TopArcadeHits. The second is SweetPacks.
The only option I can select it to enable/disable. I have disabled them both, but how can I delete them permanently?
I wanted to test another browser today and when using IE the home page that came up was sweetpacks. Does this mean I have a virus?

Extensions that do not have a "Remove" button are installed by other software and are not under control of the Firefox extension manager.<br />
Such globally installed extensions are usually found via a registry scan or are installed in a location that Firefox scans for installed extensions.
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Adding_Extensions_using_the_Windows_Registry
Extensions installed this way need to be removed via the settings (options/preferences) of the program that has added this extension or you need to uninstall this program via the Control Panel.<br />
In Firefox you an only disable such an extension.<br />
Otherwise you would have to remove the registry key that makes Firefox install this extension.<br />
Be careful with editing the registry as there is NO UNDO possible: all changes are applied immediately.

  • When I started Firefox this morning, my homepage was replaced with a search site - why did this happen?

I had my homepage set to my business website. It has been set this way for several months. Today, after starting up my computer and opening the Firefox browser, my homepage was reset to "www.sweetpacks-search.com/?barid=&src=97&". Also, any new tabs I opened were set to the same address.

Hello lloydla, try the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/searchreset/ SearchReset] add-on, the add-on only run once resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself.
