.swf file created from Indesign won't open in Flash Player

I have created an interactive flash presentation using Indesign. For several weeks I have made edits, exported a .swf file and opened the file by double-clicking it to open in Flash Player. From there I was able to export an .exe file with an embedded projector for users that may not have flash player. The file does not open and asks whcih progrma I would like to open with when clicking the file.
I am running Windows XP, Adobe CS5
Thanks for your help.

That sounds more Windows file association issue.Have you tried to Right-Click your SWF and choosed Open With (or something like that), you can choose Flash Player from that list if it´s installed.

  • Skin control in swf file created from indesign not showing online

    Hi,
I used indesign cs5.5 interactive to create a swf file with embeded video and skin control.  When I view the video on my pc the video and skin control works but when I uploaded both the swf file and the skin control file  online to my client's server the skin control doesn't show. I suspect it has something to do with the path, is there somewhere I can specify the path to where the skin control is loaded online?
    Thanks.

Which file - the .swf or the .exe file?
If the .swf, you need to create a file association to the projector.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • InDesign File created on PC won't open on Mac

My office is collaboraing with a consultant to create a document in InDesign. We are on PCs and she is on a Mac. We have sent her our .indd files and she is unable to open our InDesign files (not sure if there is an error message or what, I will get more information from her ASAP). Any thoughts on why? Suggestions?
It is my understanding that the programs are compatible crossplatform. We are running CS2, unsure what she is running, but if opening different versions works the same as other Adobe programs, it would know, and give you a warning, if that were the problem.
I'll update with more information as I get it, but there may be an easy solution that I am missing.
We are an architecture firm and have minimal knowledge of InDesign. We only use it every now and then for very basic layouts and have never attempted or needed to share files, so bear with me if there is a simple explaintion!  Thanks.

Thanks all for the help, but we have decided to work around it differently.
She was using CS1, and the message she was getting was that there are additional plug-ins required, and she said that when she attempted to download them, CS1 was too old a version.
INX also did not work, not sure why, but not too concered at this point.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Adding video to a .swf file created in InDesign so it will work as a PDF.

I am having trouble inserting a video into my indesign file. I change the format to a .FLV and then export it as a .swf. When I bring it into Acrobat to create a PDF the video does not play. Any suggestions on how to add video to a .swf file that works in a pdf?

That's a circular argument, since video in a PDF file is rendered in the Flash Player runtime.
    Steve Werner wrote:
Things will work better if you change the format of the video to MP4. Then just place the video directly in the InDesign file and make the interactive PDF. Mixing SWF and PDF are bound to be a disappointing experience.
Flash is a format which is on the downhill slope. It's not supported on mobile device (you know, tablets and smartphones), and many people don't like installing Flash for security reasons.

  • File size of .swf files exported from Indesign CS5

I have made a basic file (728 x 90 px) in Indesign, which is the size of banner ads we produce. I have not put on any effect or animation yet. When I export it as a swf file, the file size is 139kb. This is way too large for any banner advertising on websites where the highest is normally 100px and the smallest is 30kb.
I have tried exporting at a lower resolution, but it has no effect on the file size, rendering this useless as a flash export option for me.
Is there something I'm missing or is Indesign just not the right tool for flash banner ads.
    Thanks

    {swf file that's 13MB. What are your images, 200MB each?}
As I said, I resampled the images to be 500px wide so each PShop image is about 1.4mb (single layer). There are 12 images used.
Here it is if you care to see i t- 11mb so it will take time to load

No doubt you are a 100% right here.
But I think it is a bit disingenious to blame the InDesign user for the feature. It would be like Abobe putting Drop Shadows and transparences into ID and then saying you should use PhotoShop to for that feature!

  • How do you enable zoom in an interactive PDF (SWF) file created in InDesign?

I'm putting together a scrapbook for a few friends in InDesign CS5. I added a page turn transition and enabled page curl when I saved it as a SWF file, but when I was viewing the project, because it's a SWF video file, I couldn't zoom in and read the notes on each page. Is there a way to add a zoom button or enable zooming another way? Or is there a way to add the page curl to an interactive PDF version?

    good question ;-)

  • Some video's won't open in flash player

I have windows XP service pack 3 and IE 8. On some web sites, some but not all of the video's won't open.I get no error code or anything, but there is what looks like a capital "T" in the upper left corner of the box where the video should be. There is what looks like a red dot in the left angle of the "T". I have the most current flash player, 10.1.102.64 as confirmed when I go to Adobe ..../about. The same video will play if I use Chrome, and the strange thing is that the same video WILL play if I open IE8 using my wife's user account. I have concluded that it must be one of my IE8 setting, but I have compared setting on the two accounts and I can't find the problem. Any suggestions?

  • Mp4 files (.m4v) from Handbrake won't open in Quicktime.

Suddenly, about a week ago, whenever I try to open these files in QuickTime, I receive a message saying the required codec is missing.  Yet, these same files will open in iTunes.
In Quicktime, when I click on "Find out more," I'm taken to an article titled, "Media formats supported by QuickTime Player," Article: HT3775, which lists MPEG-4 as a supported format in QuickTime.
    I do not understand.

You want to convert your DVD video to Quicktime first, and then encode your video with compressor.  Compressor gives you the most options for converting the video.  Apple's compressor gives you lots of options for setting the size and quality of the H.264 file you want to create.  Since it's Apple, the H.264 you create will work in Quicktime.  Compressor is also really cheap at $50 on the Apple store.
There's several good options out there for converting DVD video to Quicktime.  I recommend taking a look at DVDxDV.

  • Help! Jpg, Png, Tiff files creating on MAC won't open on PC

Ok...I'm new to MAC and I'm creating all of my images in Photoshop as i have always done on my PC. But now when i save anything as a JPG or PNG nobody using a PC can open them.
I've checked the file extension, etc. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
    Please Help

How does one see a JPG image in a plain text message? HTML vs. plain text is not the problem. The problem is that Yahoo (and many other mail clients) can choke on Mac Finder and Photoshop previews and extended metadata in the JPG file if it is not prepared and sent properly.
Try these three steps one at a time until you find success...
    1) Use the 'save for web' function in Photoshop to produce your JPG files.
    2) Make sure that your mail program is set to send a type of MIME encoding compatible with the recipient's system (check the box for 'Windows-friendly attachments').
    3) If you are not presenting graphic HTML mail with images and don't care that the recipient has to download and extract a package of images, wrap your JPG files in a ZIP archive.

  • How to get flash video to open in flash player

I would like to produce a link in Dreamweaver that points to
a flash video that would open in the actual flash player interface
window. Every time I try to link the swf file in Dreamweaver, it
wants to open the flash video in a new internet explorer window
instead of just opening it in the flash player interface. When this
happens, it enlarges the video to fit the explorer window. How do I
    get my desired result?

perhaps a character that isn't all that special to you is
quite special to dw? a surefire way to tell would be for you to

If you plan on collaborating with other users who have progressed with the technology you are gong to have to upgrade. There is simply no way any longer to continue with XP and CS2 except in isolation.

  • CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
    What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

Is there a way to restore photos from Drop box to my desktop iPhoto in a large batch instead of one at a time? I tried and a zip file was downloaded but won't open. Says file format not recognized. I see how to do it one at a time with the "download" button in Dropbox but that's so cumbersome for lots of photos.

Is there an ADOBE pgm that will properly read in PDF files created from another pgm and convert them to ADOBE PDF so they do not error when they are opened to be viewed by ADOBE pgm?

There is no way to know all the different scan/fax/pdf printers that are used to make the original PDFs...
CAD-KAS PDF Editor 2.6 is used to edit the files
doPDF 5 is used to modify pdf file.
Interesting, I can use the free CAD-KAS PDF reader to open & read the PDF file that the ADOBE XI reader
