SWF File - Play this slide OK, Preview Not

I converted a video AVI file to a SWF file and inserted it into a slide. Selecting "play this slide" results in the video animation playing without problem. Selecting "preview" the project, or multiple signs results in only the audio playing for the slide, no video.

  • Delayed text captions not appearing (except in Preview "Play this slide")

    Can anyone explain why my delayed text captions are not appearing in any mode BUT Preview/Play this slide. When I do that type of preview, the text captions show up exactly when I set them (starting at 27s - and are set to display for 'rest of slide').
    There are eight delayed text captions and none of them show up with I preview the Project, From this slide, or Publish.
    The visible flag is on, time is "rest of slide", appear after 27s, effect is not relevant, and it is not a layers issue.
    Thank you

    Hi Shawn
    Belive it or not, I wasn't being sarcastic. Only Buttons, Click Boxes or Text Entry Boxes will pause playback of a slide. So I figured if I asked how many you had, you would scrutinize the slide and perhaps discover one you had missed.
    Play this slide doesn't behave like the other preview. This doesn't mean it's bad, just different. You simply have to understand that the only real reason for using that type of preview is to achieve a rough representation of timing elements. When will they appear and disappear. As you have discovered, you may not interact with them. You may only watch them. It's a bit like watching something through a window. You cannot reach through it and touch anything.

  • Firefox will not show links to flv files. I get the error message for each flv file: "File not found. Firefox can't find the file at (path) .flv." Any mov and swf files in this same path will show. I can see the videos in Safari so the paths are correct.

    Is this a webpage that contains a link to a flv file? Please post a link to the page and tell us which link(s) are the problem flv files or else post a link to the .flv file itself.
    Alternately, click on one of the sample FLV File links on this page and tell us exactly what happens:
    http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/flash/video/tutorial/example-flv.html
    It might also help if you post the exact error message, including the path to the flv file.
    '''Note:'''
    Depending on how you have Firefox set up, clicking on a FLV File link will either save the FLV file to your computer or Firefox may open it automatically in an external application right after downloading (Firefox may ask you first). Firefox itself can't play FLV files so you need a "helper" application (or a plugin for flv files, if ther is one. You can see if Firefox is already set up to download or open FLV files by going to Firefox Preferences and looking in the Applications list. Find the FLV file type in the list and, if the action is "Open with", it should show the application that can play FLV files (e.g., VLC Media Player or Perian). See [[Managing filetypes]] for more information.

  • Why doesnt my swf file play on the server?

    why doesnt my swf file play on the server? but it plays on my computer.
    what do i need to do to make it work?

    It easier to see why the file might not be playing on the server if you provide a link to the file on the server.  That allows for checking if files are where they should be.
    In your case you may want to do some repairs on the html file that you linked.  It appears as though the tags are out of whack and possibly the embedding is as well.  What you should do is let Flash generate the html page when you publish the swf.  You are normally going to get the best results letting Flash create the embedding code.

    There are a few tv shows that played this week that are not available on itunes from tnt. Why are they not available for download. We watch these each week, and I have checked to be sure that there was actually an episode this week, and there was.

    Under other "sync-able" players, there's usually the "Sync only checked items" radio button. Not for the 2.0 Apple TV. There's no option, but acts as though that option ("sync only, etc...") has been selected. Figured it out after an hour of walking back and forth from my Mac to the TV. Argh.
    Try it. De-select the shows, sync the AppleTV and look under the "TV Shows" and the one's you've unchecked will not be there.

  • All .swf audio plays on slide 1 when published as swf file!

    Help!
    I am trying to publish a series of projects (seven) as swf files to upload to moodle for a CBT course.  This is my first time ever using Captivate in this way and when I go to view the outputs using a web browser, all of the audio for the imbedded flash files in the project plays on top of each other on the first slide.  They will also play as they are supposed to during the course, but it's very annoying.
    When I publish the project as a standalone file, everything works flawlessly.  What is causing this and how can I fix it?  I must also state that I outsourced the flash work and know next to nothing about flash, so any help you give that might involve that piece, I will have to pass on to the flash developer.
    Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
    EDIT: Captivate 3.0.1  Not sure what version of Flash.

    Was there ever a typing text object anywhere in your project that you delete at one time? I remember from Cp3 that when it would capture a typing text animation from a capture session, that you could never truly delete the object from the slide, only hide it (not sure if it's the same in Cp4, I recently jumped to Cp5).
    When in doubt, I would do Insert > Blank Slide, then re-create the audio/objects from your current slide 1 and insert/paste onto the blank slide, then blow away the problematic slide 1, then republish and see if that helps!

  • Swf file plays in IE8 but not Firefox or Safari

    I've inserted an swf file in my webpage using Dreamweaver CS4's Insert/Media/swf function. It plays fine in IE8 but won't work at all in Firefox or Safari. I can view flash files in other websites using these browsers and I've updated my version of flash so I can only put it down to a coding thing. Website is www.201.com.au and the Dreamweaver code follows. Any suggestions??
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="958" height="242" id="FlashID" title="201_Gallery">

          <!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it from IE using IECC. -->
          <!--[if !IE]>-->
          <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="../flash/201.swf" width="958" height="242">

            <!--[if !IE]>-->
          </object>
          <!--<![endif]-->
        </object>

    The code you have posted is not the same code as used in:
    <div id="gallery">
    in the link above.
    The reason that the Flash is not displaying in FF is that the portion of the code used by FF was omitted. The code currently used on the page only works in IE.
    I'm no great fan of the IE conditional statements used in the code you posted so I don't blame you for not using it. But you do need to provide something for FF.... the old, out dated method would be to add and <embed> for FF... here's the newer method..
    So either use code you posted above or better yet, get rid of that and replace the current <object> with
    <div id="gallery">
    <object id="FlashID" data="flash/201.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="958" height="242">
       <param name="movie" value="flash/201.swf">
       <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
         <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0"/>
    </object>
    </div>
    Give that a try. Will work in both FF and newer IE versions.
    Best wishes,

  • How can I get my swf files playing on browser?

    Hello,
    I've been designing my first website and have used dreamweaver, which is very new to me. I've followed a very good beginners guide to making websites and all was well. However, it had nothing about uploading swf files. So I did some research, and found that the easiest way was to insert them into a div box using the media section and choosing swf. again all was well, I can preview it in chrome etc.. and all works fine.
    I've come to uploading my site and I've used filezilla, uploaded all the files but I can't see the swf playing on the website. I've looked into it and I just can't find the answer. I've tried uploading them directly into the root folder as well but that doesn't work.
    Can somebody please help me!!
    here are the links:
    www.creativecanvassing.co.uk = the swf should be positioned between the orange logo and the "national direct marketing company' text. There is also the section in picture which has the same problem
    not too sure how to attach the copy of the file that shows its all working
    Thanks

    Hello,
    are you really sure that you have uploaded this page with contents? I've got this, when calling this link: http://www.creativecanvassing.co.uk/pictures.html:
    Your swf file is running in my IE8 like a charm in all your other pages.

  • Strange Problem - All of my preloaded .swf files play at once

    Hey guys,
      I've been getting a strange problem that I haven't been able to debug.  I recently developed an interactive audio and video treatment program that users click through in which a master swf file (DTM-Start.swf) uses ActionScript upon first being loaded to load the rest of the program in the background.  Here's how the code looks:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.Event;
    // create movieclip objects to hold the loaded movies
    var intr1:MovieClip;
    var maladaptIntr1:MovieClip;
    var maladaptIntr1Loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var maladaptIntr1Request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("DTM-Maladapt1.swf");
    maladaptIntr1Loader.load(maladaptIntr1Request);
    maladaptIntr1Loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, maladaptIntr1Loaded);
    var intr1Loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var intr1Request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("DTM-Intr1.swf");
    intr1Loader.load(intr1Request);
    intr1Loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, intr1Loaded);
    function maladaptIntr1Loaded(event:Event):void
        maladaptIntr1 = event.currentTarget.content as MovieClip;
        maladaptIntr1.stop();
        addChild(maladaptIntr1);
        maladaptIntr1.y = -1000
        trace("maladaptIntr1");
    function intr1Loaded(event:Event):void
        intr1 = event.currentTarget.content as MovieClip;
        intr1.stop();
        addChild(intr1);
        intr1.y = -1000
        trace("intr1");
    function playIntr1() {
       intr1.y = 0;
       intr1.play();
    function playMaladapt1() {
        maladaptIntr1.y = 0;
        maladaptIntr1.play();
    So that's the idea.  What's strange is that when I load a .swf file compiled with AIR 2.6 (because the user interacts with the movie and a text file is output) it's fine too, but as soon as I add any actionscript, even if it's just a stop() command, to a .swf file compiled with AIR, the DTM-Start.swf loads and then plays all of the movies simultaneously so they're all going off at once.  Essentially, flash seems to be ignoring the maladaptIntr.stop() command in the Loaded function, for instance.  I just don't understand why adding any Actionscript whatsoever to a .swf compiled with AIR would make my DTM-Start do this.  I am very confident this is the issue too, because loading .swf files compiled with the FlashPlayer with action script are fine...AIR .swf files without Actionscript are fine too, it's only AIR .swf files with ANY actionscript that cause this problem....
    Any ideas?
    Much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ricky

    One solution is simply to have a stop() in the constructor of the document Class of each swf you're loading. Another solution is something like:
    package {
         class MainDocument extends MovieClip {
         protected var swfs:Array = ['DTM-Maladapt1.swf', 'DTM-Intr1.swf'];
         protected var positions:Array = [{x:0, y:0}, {x:0, y:0}];
         protected var movies:Array /*of  MovieClips*/ = [];
         protected var loadIndex:int;
         protected var playIndex:int;
         protected var curremtMovie:MovieClip;
              public function MainDocument() {
                   super();
                   loadMovie(loadIndex);
              protected function loadMovie(loadIndex:int):void {
                   var loader:Loader = new Loader;
                   loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadComplete);
                   loader.load(new URLRequest(swfs[loadIndex]));
              protected function onLoadComplete(e:Event):void {
                   var mc:MovieClip = LoaderInfo(e.currentTarget).content as MovieClip;
                   mc.stop();
                   var position:Object = positions[loadIndex];
                   mc.x = positions.x;
                   mc.y = positions.y;
                   addChild(mc);
                   movies[movies.length] = mc;
                   loadIndex++;
                   if (loadIndex<swfs.length) {
                        loadMovie(loadInxed);
                   } else {
                        playMovie(playIndex);
              protected function playMovie(playIndex):void{
                   if (currentMovie) {
                        currentMovie.stop();
                   currentMovie = movies[playIndex];
                   currentMovie.play();
    Note that with this approach you don't need to create a whole new set of logic each time you want to add a new swf to load.

  • Rewind swfs with played question slides

    I have a custom Flash player that loads and plays Captivate
    swf files. When the player loads a Captivate-generated swf that is
    a "question slide", the player is unable to rewind the swf after
    the question has been answered. These question slides are limited
    to a certain number of attempts. My question is, is there a way,
    even when attempts are set to a fixed number, to have my player
    rewind the swf after the question has been answered? Is there some
    mechanism in the Captivate swf preventing this?

    More info: if I place a blank slide before and after the
    question slide, and republish, the player will play the first blank
    slide, skip the question slide, and play the second blank slide.
    There is some property in the question slide that prevents it from
    being played or rewound once answered.
    Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

  • Captivate 7 slide adio plays but slide objects do not

    I am making a slide with a picture and then I have used a Smart Board to annotate this image to explain it in my presentation.  To put these ink annotations in, I just copied and pasted them onto the slide.  Then I made a voice recording for that slide and aligned all the ink notes to appear at the appropriate time in the recording.  However, when I preview the slide, the recording plays but the annotations do not.  I don't have a play bar, but in the upper corner of the preview, there are controls to navigate through the project.  When I hit play up there when the slide appears,  then the objects appear when they should.  What could cause this and how can I fix it?  Thanks!

    My intuition is correct. You have a shape button (first Smartshape starting from bottom) that is pausing almost at the beginning of the slide, I can only see it is already Inactive after 0,1sec. This means that the audio will start to play, since the clip starts at 0secs, and the objects in the stack beneath the shape button will show, but then slide pauses. Why did you choose a pausing point at 0.1secs?

  • Can I have a .swf file play in a lightbox-type window on link click?

    Hello,
    I have a thumbnail on my page that I would like to link to a video. However, I do not want it to open in a new tab or window, rather, I'd just like it to appear like a lightbox display, fading out the background and playing the video within the same page. The viewer should be able to close out or click off of the video at any point to return to the original page.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks!

    Placing a .swf file (Ctrl+D) in a Lightbox display Composition widget should not be a problem while having your thumbnail image in the trigger.

  • FLV plays in DW page preview, not on web host

    On my Dreamweaver CS3 page, I insert an FLV file. I preview
    the file in Safari. The video is there and plays normally. When I
    upload the file to my site host Network Solutions. The FLV file
    does not appear on the page. The FLV file itself and related
    FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf file and the Corona_Skin_2.swf files are
    in their proper relative directories.
    Safari error console shows the following errors:

    FLV is the video file itself. You need a player to actually
    play the
    FLV. The player is an additional SWF file. Dreamweaver
    generates its own
    SWF player, which must be uploaded to the server along with
    the
    Javascript file it creates to make the whole thing work.
    Alternatively,
    you can use another FLV player (such as Flowplayer) and
    manually insert
    the correct code. Still - you need to upload all supporting
    files such
    as the SWF player. Make sense?
    Flash (the program) doesn't enter the picture at all unless
    you are a
    Flash geek and have created your own player (SWF).

  • Font in SWF file different once inserted and previewed in Captivate 5

    I have inserted a SWF File as an animation into my captivate 5 movie. When I view the SWF file independently, thus, outside of Captivate, the font looks exactly as it should: in Arial. However, once I have inserted the SWF file into Captivate and preview the Animation, the font changes to something which looks like Times New Roman.
    A colleague tested the file on her computer also and experienced the same issue.
    Does anyone have an idea what could solve this? Does a setting need to be changed in Flash or in Captivate?
    Thank you so much!!

    OK.  Changing to a different font to test is a good strategy.  Stick with a standard Windows font, e.g. Verdana.
    There have been some issues with fonts getting corrupted that were reported several months ago when Cp5 first came out.  Caused some wierd behaviour including preventing Cp from opening at all: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3441458#3441458
    Hope yours turns out to be something much simpler.
