SWF Files open in OS X but won't open in Windows
Hey everyone. I'm a bit of a novice to Flash so please play
nice. Anyway, I have a .swf file that I created in Flash CS4 and it
plays great in OS X. It's actually a video controlled by a media
controller (my publish setting are for player 8.0). When I boot to
Windows XP and try to open the file using several different stand
alone players (8,9,10) I only see a white background and no movie.
Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I'm goin' crazy.
Thanks,
Solan
Is windows fully updated with all required codecs? If you
send me the link over hotmail I can see if I can open it!

I am tryng to open a raw file from a Nikon 810 but won't open. Says RAW DOESN'T SUPPORT CAMERA MODEL. I re installed nx2 with error code u43m1d207. How do I open a file.
you can use the dng converter if updating your adobe program(s) fails.

I have an iMac. , mid 2007. Frequently, when I take an action, the little color wheel starts spinning and goes on for quite awhile. Save a file, close a file, open a file, open a window, it's all random. Somtimes it stalls, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes long, sometims short. Why is this happening?
Consider adding more memory. Be sure you have adequate free space on the hard drive - 15 GBs or 10% of the drive's capacity, whichever is greater. Do not run too many applications concurrently. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on resolving the SBBOD.
Do some maintenance:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior. Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
Carbon Copy Cloner
Data Backup
Deja Vu
SuperDuper!
SyncTwoFolders
Synk Pro
Synk Standard
Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space. -
Safari 4.0.3 Starts but won't display any windows properly
Since accepting the update to Safari 4.0.3 this morning, Safari starts but will not display any windows, just the main application menu bar.
Trying new window has no effect and launching a history item either has no effect or safari crashes complaining that the crash could have had something to do with
libcooliris.dylib
I therefore removed /Library/InputManagers/Cooliris but this made no difference.
History flow displays but won't launch any windows and strangely Menu>History>Home opens a window but there are no tabs nor URL nor search bar, but there is only the history bar. The window is all grey including where the page should be.
Trying to open other history items in this window changes the title, but no page contents are displayed.
I also tried reinstalling 4.0.3. from the Apple website, but this made no difference.
Have you any idea what I could try next?
ThanksDeleted all from /Library/InputManagers and problem solved.
I did have the following:
Cooliris
QuicKeysIM
Saft
DeliciousSafari

TabExpose
Not sure where the problem was, but did find the following in the log after running permissions fix in Disk Utility:

What does this mean and what can I do to fix it?

How to create a button to get File Open popup window and select a file
Hi,
I have an applet that contains Browse button. When user clicks on that, a File Open popup window should be displayed to enable user to select the input file. This file path should be given back as parameter.
How to do this? I have tried using LoadFileData but not able to get the desired result.
Any pointers would be helpful.
Thanks,
Lalitha DandibotlaDo you need only the path or also the file back into Siebel?
If you need both, the have a look at any attachment applet, that will give you a good start.
Are you using Siebel in High Interactivity (HI) Mode or Standard Interactivity (SI) Mode?
If you are in SI Mode have a look at the html type

if there is any field which requries file path and directory better make it uniform and hard code it.

30EA3 - Windows: incorrect "mydocument" path in File- Open dialog window
Hi,
I have noticed this error in previous versions as well. On windows, users can change the default mydocument path. After the change, all windows file dialogues with the 'mydocuments' shortcut open the new, changed directory.
In SQL Developer, the File->Open dialog window has a 'My Documents' shortcut which uses the constant path C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents. Instead of this shortcut, the program should lookup the real value of the Mydocuments path and should open the correct directory.
Regards,
Gellért
Edited by: user641632 on 2011.01.20. 1:30Thats true. We use use the default.
We could look at the registry and check HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders for the "My Documents" if it is set.

Swf file opens in IE but not in firefox
I have windows xp and flash player9. I created a swf file and published it for flash player 9 and ActionScript3 and embedded it into a web page. It opens nicely in IE8 but when I try to open it in firefox 3.6, I get the message "Content of this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player" and a little box invites me to download.
I tried publishing for flash player 6 and ActionScript2, but get the same results.
Any help would be very much appreciated.I can't say if this will fix it, but you can try putting quotation marks around "_blank"... it is a String argument so it should be quoted just like the URL is.

Swf files appearing in preview (D8) but not n browser after uploading - frustrated!
Hello,
I have worked with Flash and Dreamweaver on the side for a
number of years. We all know that after the recent changes, the way
it handles object and embed tags has changed to favor Java
actionscripts instead.
This code I am about to paste was created using Dreamweaver
8.02, with transitional (x) html. Now mind you, this is not the
prettiest piece of code you've ever seen. I now am learning to use
CSS layouts instead of layers/tables, with php and flash
integrated. This one example is not the only time I have had this
problem however.
I made a silly flash banner (its actually a placeholder for a
better one I have to develop) for testing purposes and sizing. It
appears fine in Firefox, and IE6 in the preview mode via
Dreamweaver. When I upload it all to the site, the flash banner
does not appear.
I have tried copying the FLA and SWF files to the root folder
(the fla, swf, and html files generated are all present), and tried
a number of variations in the code and parameters to no avail. The
darn thing just won't appear now. Similarly older pages I have
created that Dreamweaver now prompts you to "fix the object tag
that may not work in IE7...etc" have the same issue. If I select
"go ahead and fix them for me", they are visible in production, but
gone after uploading.
Now to remove the possibility that this was a layering or
parent tag issue of visibility, I created a blank HTML page and
"insert/media/flash" and stuck the banner in there, then uploaded
it to my server. It doesn't appear.
I need help. I have been scouring the web for a few days now
to no avail and have become quite frustrated with what used to be a
really easy integration of Flash and html.
Here is the top chunk of code from the page in question: (the

.swf files opening issues
Upon opening .swf files I get open or save as options. I have tried all the fixes I could locate nothing is helping. I have even tried to reinstall the flash player program. I can play the files from the site but after downloading them I can no longer play the files from my desktop without getting the open or save as options like it is trying to re-download the same file. This repeats non-stop. I have checked the options in tools however I can't seem to change or reset any of the things for .swf files. One of the options for the file targets shockwave flash, which I have installed but the other says always ask. I can't change it to firefox, if I set it to IE it repeats the open or save as options like it does in firefox. I can't seem to locate any program to open the file in firefox.
Before the last few updates I use to just be able to click on a .swf file and it'd open in firefox without issue. I'm not sure what has changed within the last few updates but now I can't open .swf files unless I do so from the site I downloaded the file from.@ CoryMH, the only things located in the content tab of the options is the following: Block pop ups, Fonts& colors, and languages. There is no options within the content tab of tools>options>content. Even though your advice was not helpful to me in any way I still thank you for trying to help resolve this matter.
@ cor-el, I have just managed to find the mimeTypes.rdf file took me a few hours as it was not where those links said it would be. For my system it was C:/users/username/appdata(hidden folder)/local/mozilla Sadly the links said it's be %APPDATA%\mozilla\ upon which is an invalid address on my windows 7 system. Not sure why it's different but I found it. I am hoping now that I located the file that your advice fixes the problem.
Edit 1: cor-el upon restarted after removing the file you mentioned did in fact reset everything. All of my flashes are asking what I want them to open with once more. Upon opening them on Firefox I can see them instead of the open with or save as options. So your advice did indeed work. Thank you. -
One of the web masters at my school has embedded several Captivate 5 swf files in a web page. I had re-exported all of them to not auto start after we realized that the originals were set to auto play upon loading (someone else made the orginials...). Caches have been cleared on IE9, but yet, when that page loads, all of the no auto-play swfs start playing. On Chrome, Firefox and Safari, none of them start playing when the page is loaded. Does anyone have a clue why IE9 might be doing this and how to fix it?
Thanks,
SueAm I correct in assuming that when your web developer set these SWFs up on the same page that he did not use the default HTM page that Captivate creates? Did he just embed them into the web page using standard Dreamweaver code for SWFs?
Do the same Captivate SWFs start automatically if you upload them to your web server individually with the HTM and JS files that Captivate creates? If not, then your web developer might be better off embedding the content in his web page using individual iframes pointing at the HTM file rather than the method he previously chose. -
Why does embeded .swf file goes crazy in IE but not in other browsers?
hi everyone
I'm building a SharePoint page with an embedded .swf file that is capable of detecting the current URL to activate and show content. Everything goes smoothly in all the browsers I've tested it except IE. When I open the SharePoint page in IE the .swf just reproduces the frames non stop, It completely ignores my scripts and I cant find anything that could be responsible of this. besides the url detection script, i just have simple button configuration for the timeline and general stops.
any idea?.....anyone?Normally when swf's play differently for different browsers it is due to the embedding code used in the html page.

Want to hide mouse, then show it when new swf file opens above the movie?
Hi,
I am using a magnifying glass animation for my portfolio and I want he mouse cursor to hide, which I can work out with:
Mouse.hide()
But when someone clicks on a section it then loads a swf file above the original movie so I then want the mouse cursor to show but i'm not sure what the code would be for this?
Also then once they press on the close button of this swf file with:
on (release) {
unloadMovieNum(1);
_level0.enableBtns();
I want the mouse cursor to hide again becuase they are on the main movie again. Any ideas??use Mouse.show() when you want the cursor to be shown and Mouse.hide() whenever you want to hide the mouse.

Close a file opened in windows XP
Hi guys,
I'm writing data in a text file and I saw if the file is already open in Windows XP the data are not written and I have no error message.
So my question is how can I close the file in Windows with Labview ?
And is there a way to check before closing it if the file is open by Windows ?
I tried with "close file" and with "close file+.vi" but it's not working.

Thank you smercurio_fc for you reply, but I didn't succeed to close my file.
If I understand it right I should look on Microsoft side and not in a function in Labview ?
Like to use the command with the cmd.exe to close it ?
Yes, it is a command-line program made by Microsoft. The code that cheggers attached is basically how you would use it. As I noted, the utility is designed to track files opened by network users. To track files opened locally you need to run the command with the "/local ON" parameters. You only need to do this once, though a reboot is required. More information can be found on the Microsoft site.
