.swf (flash) not playing in Final Cut

Hello... I am using FCP 4.5 and trying to get a Flash animation to work. I have tried importing it as a .swf file and as a Quicktime file... neither work.
When I play the clip in the Flashplayer or in the stand-alone Quicktime player... it works fine... plays the whole movie. When I import it into FCP it seems to only import/play the first frame.
The Flash file was created by a designer I am working with... (I think on a PC) and I thought it would be fairly simple to bring it into FCP (or so the manual led me to believe).
HELP!!! I have a horrid deadline looming.
Thanks

Deadline imposed by whom? They're not your friends.
Your Flash creator doesn't understand video; Flash is vector animation driven by the player on the receiving machine, video is pixels. It's really complicated but your Flash guy must export his project as video, not Flash. If he's on a PC, you will need to negotiate a common codec because he may not have QT and you may not have the required WMP import filter from Flip4Mac. You could use a folder of numbered jpegs or the Animation codec. This can get REALLY complicated and messy.

  • AME CS6 h264 output that can play in final cut.

i need to output H264 files, which will play in Final Cut 7.
When I choose H264 codecs in AME CS6, the files are .mp4 which will not play in FCP7.
My director needs to be able to play them in FCP7.
How can I get AME to output H264 and not .mp4?
    Thanks.

H.264 isn't the best choice for Intermediates.
Also, if memory serves FCP 7 is comparatively limited in what it can handle natively and converts many formats to ProRes, so you may be asking for something that's just not possible.

  • Flash not playing on Mac OS 10.6.8, Flash 11.8.800.94, Firefox 22.0

Flash not playing on Mac OS 10.6.8, Flash 11.8.800.94, Firefox 22.0
Let me also say this flash does work in Safari... just not Firefox. When a flash media link is clicked on FF will go to the link but only a black window appears with no text or error messages or sound.
As far as I know I am running the latest version of Firefox and Flash. I have no plans to upgrade from Snow Leopord to Lion.
Another possible data point for this is Flash updates do not install just by clicking on the download. The DMG downloads but I get an unknown data type when it trys to launch. There is an easy work-around for this be simply launching the DMG from Finder where it runs just fine.
Any thoughts as to why Firefox is not running Flash media files?

  • Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro

I'm sure you've seen this before and I've tried to search for a thread on it here and fell asleep, so sorry if this is a repeat.
I have edited projects in Premiere Pro (on my PC) and I have tried to transfer them in FCP. It worked with the exception of two things:
    1. the error message, "Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro"
    2. the quality *****! watching it on the playback in FCP it looks great, but then when I burn it to Disc it's pixelated in spots and generally has a lower quality picture.
I know that it's Standard Def. and can't expect the best, but I've done it before (once or twice) and it didn't seem this bad.
Can someone suggest anything to help the quality? Should I run my AVIs through MPEG Steamclip to make it a QT file and if so what is the best format in that since there are many to choose from and most I'm not familiar with?
    Thank you,
    Crayton

I did compress them to DV NTSC then burned it to DVD and the result was no bueno.
I thought what I would do is try compressing them again before I send them on over to DVDSPRO. Here is a simplified break down of the situation:
    - I have edited the raw footage in Premiere Pro on my PC. They were recorded and captured as SD.
    - I rendered them in Premiere, then transfered the rendered AVI file to FCP.
    - When went to place the files in FCP, I received the warning message; "Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro" but I went forward anyways and it allowed me to do so.
    - Originally I went ahead and compressed them from FCP to QT Movie as a DV NTSC, which ended up poorly.
    - Therefore my question is, should I compress them using another file type (other then DV NTSC)? Which leads me to another program that I have called MPEG Streamclip, which offers tons of file types of which I am unfamiliar with most. I want the best quality of course but don't know what file type is the highest going from AVI to a format that can be accepted by FCP and ultimately DVDSPRO. Keeping in mind that I only have FCP5 and do not have Prores.
    Did that make sense?
    Thank you again,
    Crayton

  • Canon EOS Movie Plugin-E1 not recognized in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7

Canon EOS Movie Plugin-E1 not recognized in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7
I just installed the new version of final cut pro 10 and the canon plugin-E1 version 1.4 for the canon 5D mk III but after starting final cut pro I can not find the Log and transfer button., with the result I cannot import my files.
Is there a solution for this problem.

There is no L&T function in FCPX.
The import media dialogue window does what you want.
OS versions later than 10.6 should be fine importing Canon DSLRs.

  • ATY radeon x1900 not compatible with Final Cut Pro X ???

It looks like my ATY radeon x1900 Graphics card is not compatible with Final Cut Pro X and the new motion and compressor?
    I have a Macpro 2 x 3Ghz quad core Intel Xeon with 16gb RAM
Any suggestion to which card I should Purchase?

There are several threads here and abroad that mention the installer will notice and approve the ATI 5770 in older mac pros.
I just now bought a 5770 from Apple's online store for my 2007 Mac Pro 2,1 so I'd have the compatibility if I ever decided to upgrade -- assuming at some point they'll run out of stock and not make any more.
Keep in mind the 5770 has 1 dual link DVI and 2 mini display ports so you might need to pick up necessary adapters depending on your monitors.
Hopefully FCPX will be usable in the near future and an upgrade will be pragmatic.
(I sure hope they don't pull this stunt with the next Logic upgrade.)
I may have a 1900XT for sale soon.

  • Firefox 15, Flash 11.4, Windows 7 - html5 videos/swf do not play

Help me please!  I see that many people have similar issues, but no 2 are exactly alike, but I have tried every suggested solution and nothing seems to work.  Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then nothing worked - no youtube, no flash apps, no swf.  I only use Firefox, but I tried it on IE and Chrome - nothing.  I really just want a solution with Firefox, because it has worked.  In my Add-ons Manager, it shows Shockwave Flash 11.4...and Shockwave for Director.  HOWEVER, when they are enabled I cannot watch ANY youtube videos.  If I disable Shockwave Flash, youtube videos play, except for HTML5 videos.  Regardless if Flash is enabled or disabled, when I go to the Adobe flash test page, it is indicating that I do not have flash installed.  However the Shockwave Player test page, shows that shockwave is installed and working.  I am so frustrated....I have uninstalled and installed so many times, shockwave, adobe, etc. And no matter what I do .swf images/apps do not play at all.  This is the worse, since my work's website (which I maintain) uses .swf.  I did not create them, but would like to see them and it seems to necessary when I try to update the website, because the website maintenance hangs.  Flash never 'crashes'.....

Here's the report, just with the display device info - let me know if you need anything else (it's really long!)

  • Flash SWF file not playing as HTML snippet!?

Any Flash gurus out there? I'm trying to get a SWF flash file to play as a HTML snippet but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm using Artotems Flash code within the snippet. The SWF file was encoded using Flash v9.0 and it plays on it's own when I open it the file directly from a web browser. However, when it's referenced from my website through iWeb nothing shows up!? Any ideas? Here's a screenshot of the code I'm using. Maybe you gurus can tell me if my syntax is incorrect?

You're not using the full URL to the file.
You have "/Media/knowledgereignssupreme.flv" in both instances where it should be...
You can also open it with a simple iFrame code like at the bottom of this page......

  • SWF file not playing in flash player

    Hello All
I am working on this project for a client, suddenly no-one can get the SWF file to play.
    https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0ByWDl-PaRWIFY0c1SnEwbUNraUE&usp=sharing
    The file is there.
If anyone can help please do.
I know this file works. It must be an update or something?
    Please Please Help

If you've lost the source to your SWF files, there are a number of SWF decompilers available.  You may be able to decompile the SWF and then recompile the project using a current compiler.  It's worth a shot anyway.
A cursory Google search turned up a few candidates (free and paid), but I don't have much experience with any of them.

FWIW, I've never seen that blue screen and circle behavior before.

  • SWF file wont import into Final Cut

I built TV commercial in Flash and I am trying to import it into Final Cut Pro. I tried editing it in After Effects but when I render it as an avi file it ends up being 1 gig....  I called adobe support but they wont give support, even if you pay them, to use anyone using a trial version of After Effects. Not sure I want to buy it if I cant use Flash and FCP wih it. Either way, if someone can tell me where I can go to figure out how to import this flash animation into Final Cut Pro that would great! In fact, if it is that complicated, I will pay someone to do it for me. This commercial needs to be ready for the stations yesterday.
I really hate Apple for making Final Cut Pro so difficult to work cohesively with Windows software.

You can't. Apple ceased support on their Quicktime Flash componet several years ago. Converting it an Adobe program or exporting it as a image sequence or clip from the flash authoring environment are the only serious options. Still, even that is bound to rules liek not producing correct results with scripts and things that require user interaction. if that is the case and you are running out of time, play the file in a web browser and do a screen capture. Not glorious, but assuming the machine is fast enough and the SWF has been authored properly with video use in mind (size and framerate), might produce a usable movie...

  • Swf file not playing in browser

I have a problem with a swf file which will not play in web browser.
It played fine until I updated my site. I therefore suspected a pathing issue within dreamweaver and looked thorugh that forum for an answer.
I tried typing the absolute path to the swf file in the browser address bar and found it straight away. When I clicked on it the screen stayed blank.
I checked the path to the file and the flv file was relative to the document and not the site.
swf plays fine in flash player, flash, and locally on dreamweaver.
I moved the swf up the file tree and changed the links accordingly but still would not play.
I also tried saving it as a new swf from flash, but that doesn't play either.
I added another swf to the containing folder and that played fine in the browser.
When I open the fla file in flash it only shows a flv playback movie, not the elements, I think this is because it was created in after effects.
Here is the link to the containing folder, the swf file is Home_page_movie_V2.swf
    http://www.joinerycadsolutions.com/Flash/01 Home
I have other swf files playing fine and this swf played ok originally so I still think it's a pathing problem but I am not that savvy on flash and cannot figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, just bear in mind my low level of ability.
    Thanks
    Stuart

The .swf is loading just fine... but it is expecting to load a .flv video file.
The path inside the .swf to the .flv file is not correct. The path inside the .swf to the .flv file needs to be relative to the .swf as it's located on the Web page, NOT the physical location of the .swf.
Here is the absolute address of the .flv:
    http://www.joinerycadsolutions.com/Flash/01%20Home/Home%20V1.flv
Here is a test player using that address:
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/flash/cidm_simple_vid_player.html
So unless your .swf is broken, it just a pathing issue.
    From an old post:
    Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • Good quality quicktime movie looks poor when played thru Final Cut timeline

I created a quicktime file with moving text in After Effects 6.5..when i play the movie file it looks fine..no aliasing or jagged edges on the text...
when I import the .mov file into finalcut (4.5HD) and immediately launch & play it in the viewer, it also looks fine...
but when i place the .mov file onto the timeline and play it from there, or when i relaunch that .mov file from the timeline into the viewer, the quality of the text looks degraded...
...so i'm thinking it's a setting issue...i don't think it's an AE issue because I was able to get a good quality image into the viewer in Final Cut...I'm using the DV NTSC 48khz standard settings...720 x 480...could it be the 'millions of colors' or the 'YUV video processing' settings selected in the sequence settings?
    ...thanks for any help!
    peace
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

thanks...that helps...i've been watching it back on
the computer monitor..guess i'll have to do a quick
dvd burn to see how it appears on tv to see if that
was the issue...(no monitor or space to use a tv as a
    monitor yet)
Whoa there! You shouldn't waste time burning a DVD to check the quality of your renders. In fact, you should be working with the video monitor (or TV) hooked up to your DV Deck or DV Camcorder as you work. That way, you can always be aprised of your quality. This is the way the manual says you should be set up at all times. However, you are cutting in a space that does not have room for a small video monitor? Wow, must be a closet or something.
If a video monitor is not convenient, then you can see an aproximation of the quality you'd see in a video monitor if you do the following: Zoom out your Canvas to precisely 100% and Uncheck Sq. Pixels in the Zoom pop up. You may need to resize the Canvas to see the whole image and if you are working with a small computer screen.

  • Canon GL2 is not recognized by Final Cut Express

I am trying to capture from my Canon GL2. I hook up the fire wire but neither I-Movie or Final Cut Express seem to recognize the connection.
    Any Suggestions?

    Hi
    My general list on this.
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable *very often the problem maker*.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing eg NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF
    • Energy Saver - OFF
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
    from LKN 1935.
Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935
    from Karsten.
in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check.
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?
    More
    • FileVault - Secure that it’s turned off
    • Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
    • Where did You store/capture/import Your project ?
External USB hard disk = Bad Choise / FireWire = Good
If so it has to be Mac OS Extended formatted
----> UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange is NOT Working for VIDEO !

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
    *No Camera or bad import*
    • USB hard disk
    • Network storage
    • File Vault is on

if you have adobe cs3 or 4 and have the adobe bridge on close that

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odwenGB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • SWF does not play after publish.... OS compatibility bug?

I have embedded SWFs that will not play once the Presenter file is published.  They appear to be "frozen" on the first frame.
    Here's the setup:
The SWFs are scripted in AS2 (not AS3)
SWFs are built in Flash Pro CS5 and are published to Flash Player 9.
    They are not Captivate files.
    PowerPoint 2007 (12.0.6535.5002) SP2 MSO (12.6535.5002)
    Presenter 7.0.5 Build 7588
    Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit
BUT, I can open the same file on another computer with this setup, and it publishes just fine.

The only difference appears to be my OS.  Does anyone know of any bugs with Presenter in Windows 7?
    UPDATE:
As I type this, literally, I got a notice that there's a Presenter 7.0.6 Update. So I went ahead and installed it on the Windows 7 box.  Republished the Presenter course, and wouldn't you know it... the SWFs are now playing!
The patch says this: The Adobe® Presenter 7.0.6 update resolves Adobe Presenter's compatibility issues with PowerPoint 2010 and some important issues identified in Adobe Presenter 7.0.5 (Although the patch site doesn't bother providing us with a list of what those important issues are! Thanks Adobe, you rock.)
--- Well, it fixes MY issue for Windows 7/Presenter 7/PowerPoint 2007 too.

See the updated within the post. Installing the 7.0.6 patch was the fix.
