SWF from Captivate in other video editors

I have published some Captivate 2.0 movies to .swfs and they
work fine and run in my browser just fine. However, another group
needs them converted to a video format to put into another project.
No problem, I say, since we have Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0
which lists .swf as an import file format and .wmv and/or mpeg as
an export file format.
The problem is that when I bring the Captivate swfs into PE
it sees them as 1 second/x# of frames. I can download a random swf
from the Internet and PE reads it just fine, XXXseconds/XXX# of
frames.
I have tried tinkering with just about every setting in
Captivate and still can't get it to work. I've also tried just a
swf to .avi converted which worked fine, the .avi plays just fine,
but when I bring that .avi into an editor like PE it's one second
long again.
Help!

I can't believe I didn't notice before that Captivate can't
output to a
movie format.
I'd download a trial version of Camtasia, open the SWF you
created with
Captivate, and use Camtasia to record it - then output to
AVI.
I think many conversion utilities expect Flash documents to
be 'linear'.
Captivate has movie clips in movie clips and is not a linear
file...so
these conversion utilities get confused.
Essentially, I think you'll need to record the original SWFs
playback
with some other software then publish as a movie. There are
lots of SWF
to AVI conversion utilities out there but I dunno how well
any will work
with Captivate-generated SWFs.

  • Cfpresentation with a swf from captivate 3

I have a swf file that I created with captivate 3 for some
user training. I thought it would be a good idea to include it in
the new cfpresentation tag. When I run it, the cfpresentation tag
starts and then I see the captivate starting icon comes up and then
it is a white screen. I can run the swf from the browser and the
file runs find. I put a cfpresentationslide before this slide and
that one comes up fine but then it goes to this next slide and I
again only get a white screen. THe swf file runs about 30-45
seconds. Am I doing something wrong? Here is the code. I just have
the basic since I just want to see it run.

I built a SWF in a program called Articulate and tried to
include it in a cfpresentation and it had the same result.
I also included a SWF built in Adobe Flash that included
sound and the sound does not make it into the cfpresentation.
I think the <cfpresentation> tag is a good start, but
it certainly isn't the jaw-dropping, WOW, this changes everything
tag that I initially thought it was.

  • Enquiries on whether fla can be linked to another fla, swf to flv or other video format and buttons to an animation

    I have 3 enquiries.
    1) How do I embed another fla within fla.
For example, I am working on a fla, is it possible to create
a link to another fla via a button?
    2) How do i convert a swf file into a flv file or any other
video format like avi, mp4, etc?
I am asking this because I realized when I try to import a
swf into my fla file, I could only bundle it for mobile. Neither
the progressive nor the streaming nor the embeding options could be
    checked.
    3) After adding tweening motion to an animation, is it
possible to add buttons to play/pause? Do I have to write a script
to enable the buttons to work?
    I tried adding buttons (Windows>components>video),
however, the buttons were not functioning like the case when I
imported a video. I think it's because adding tweening to an
animation doesn't really dismiss it as a video file.
I would greatly appreaciate if anyone could post a solution
    to my problems.
    Thanks.

I am not so sure that this is a bug, and I have not been able to reproduce this behavior that you are describing.
But you can lock it from editing by right-clicking on the graph and go to Properties>>Appearance>>Enabled State --> Disabled
Also, word of advice for the future: You will get more replies from the community with shorter posts and keeping it to one question per post. Summarize what the issue is, and put the detailed documentation and instructions to reproduce in the actual VI.

  • Insert and play a .swf (from captivate)

I imported a .swf and it comes in broken into 180 frames -
how can I use this in my main timeline without having to insert 180
frames (or more since I'll need to place other .swfs as well)?
Thought I could copy those frames into a new symbol (movie clip?)
and then place that.... just not sure how to do this correctly. It
    doesn't seem to be working.
Also - this .swf is exported from Captivate - any special
file format I should ask for instead?
    Thank you!

Ok - I did that and am adding new frames to the movie clip
(piecing it back together since it imported as six different .swfs
for some reason), so I think I have to keep extending the timeline
to give it enough time to play (?), but unfortunately it doesn't
play a preview for me inside the .fla - I have to test movie each
time. Does that sound normal/right to you? I guess you always have
to add frames in the main timeline to accomodate however many
frames are within the movie clip? (kind of a pain but if it's the
    only way I guess I'll live) :-)

  • Importing swf from Captivate 3

Hi, has anyone imported a single swift file that contains its
own playback control into Presenter from a Captivate 3 published
    file?
Currently when you publish from Cap 3 two files are created
xxx.swf and xxx_skin.swf... Importing both into Presenter does not
    work either.
The idea is to have a voice over and points on the left side
of the slide and then on the right have the swf file with its own
playback control for the user to manually play after the voice
    over.

By turning off the 'borders' in the Skin option will only
    publish one swf file.

  • Calling a swf from captivate

I have a project that has multiple chapters. Within those chapters there are multiple sections. Some of the sections are used in other projects. So for version control, I would like to create a captivate project that finds these sections that are outside of the project. In other words, I might make a project about fruit and another about food. Both have a chapter about apples. If I change apples, i would like for it to affect both fruit and food (man I hope this makes sense).
Is there anyway to do this? So far people have said 'cut and paste the slides', but I will literally be using some sections in 10 different projects. Having the ability to update one main 'apples' file and have it update in all 10 projects is what I am looking for.
    Thanks,
    Van

The secret ingredient in all successful daisy-chaining is to use relative links, not absolute links (which would only work on your computer).
If you've done that, then all you should need to do is copy the folder containing the published course files over to the client's computer.
If your client is running this course from their computer hard-drive or a LAN drive, you'll need to make sure that they have this folder set up in their own Flash Global Security settings as a trusted location.

  • Need a laptop for running After Effects and other video editors

Alright, I'm looking for a laptop that can run Adobe After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop smoothly(Mainly After Effects). My current laptop  a $400 HP Compaq is capable of running those programs but not without constant freezing and slowness, specifically in After Effects and Premiere. Ideally it could run Adobe After Effects and Premiere simultaneously without being slow.
My maximum budget is $1200. I've browsed a good deal myself, but I haven't seen much that has caught my eye. I'm looking for a Windows laptop that also has a monitor that is at least 16". All of these programs are CS5. I'm here because I want to get the most out of my budget as I can, and hopefully people more experienced in Adobe products can help me out.
Ask any questions you have incase I left anything out.
    Thanks for your time,

  • How do other video editors cope with Yosemite (xpc, icloud bugs...)

Right so all I want is to be able to use Apple Motion on a stable system.
I don't need icloud, photos or any of that bs.
However I keep noticing icloud bugging out in the console, as well as photoagent and all kinds of needless process that slow down when not crash my editing software or even block me out of internet.
And so I sign out of icloud and anything related. But then it gets worst, sandbox, xpc, my whole system gets completely  lost and throws identification errors left and right, making Motion super laggy.
Has anyone else noticed that? Could it be possible that Icloud plays such a role in the way processes, including the ones used by pro apps, communicate with each other? Are we in a way forced to give in to icloud (and its load of issues), to be able to edit in a half way decent fashion?
I tried keychain first aid, onyx, digital rebellion, fsck-fy, reset p-ram, smc, nothing gives.

We all pretty much now by know that the OS has issues, serious ones (I 'm not the only apparently). I finally mitigated some of my issues (one fix entailed solving a huge mess in my keychains) and haven't slept in 2 days with a deadline tomorrow. Now that I can finally get back to work seriously, I find out that Motion 5 is excruciatingly slow to export, whether from the soft itself or via compressor . Even Motion 3 was a breeze in comparison.(by the way, Compressor offers to distribute batch among several computers, but the feature doesn't apply to projects sent from Motion and fcp, hence a completly useless feature for most workflows). I know that generators and replicators are ram hungry and so I'm resorting to export them one by one with the happy prospect of an additional round of compositing and export). As I speak, a simple circle with a paint stroke superimposed by an ulterior export of the corona emitter sigh....are rendering. and for only 16secs of a  4444 clip on alpha over a stroke outline is taking a good 30mn
This is outrageous. knowing that it is only portion of a clip among a dozen others which need to be delivered all cut up tomorrow, I am basically dead. Needless to say that re-installing everything right now is unthinkable, especially since I'm working on a recent clean install and so who knows what defects I'll end up  getting the next time around
If I could use help at this level of catastrophy, it would be some advice on the best quality/time ratio codec for exporting and re-importing 1080 w alpha clips. I'm currently going for 4444 + alpha with same settings as the project but there may be faster.

  • What's the right/best way to publish from Captivate 7 for use in Presenter 9

Just upgraded to captivate 7 and have presenter 9.  We are updating some old training courses created using Presenter with demos created in Captivate.  I've gotten as far as upgrading the old .cp files to .cpx files and now am ready to publish the files within Captivate so I can import them into Presenter 9.
When I hit 'publish' in captivate there are options to publish as .swf and/or .html5.  So I am trying to fugre out what will work best given what I'm trying to do.    In presenter I don't see an option to import HTML5, only video files or .swf files, is that correct?  in which case i need to publish as .SWF files?  Is that the best way to do it in order to be able to import into Presenter 9?
If that's the case, and I need to have .SWF files, how do I choose which Flash Player version I want to use when I publish the files in Captivate?  It's got the drop down box containing Flash 10, 10.2 and 11.  My instinct would be to use the newest (flash 11).  Is that correct?  If not, why would I want to use a lower Flash version?
    thank you!

    Hi,
You can publish to either as .mp4 (Go to publish >Media >Mp4 ) or .swf from Captivate 7. In presenter 9 you do have an option to either import .swf or .mp4 files. See the image below to import these two formats in presenter:

  • Photoshop elements 11 video editor troubleshooting

Trying to edit video taken from nikon D90.    Video editor says that the file is not supported or is missing a "codec"
    Any advice?

    umaniak
Do you have Premiere Elements 11 as well as Photoshop Elements 11?
How are you importing your video into Premiere Elements 11 (assumed Windows)? Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets? Or are you moving it from the Elements Organizer into the Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace? Does the video play back OK on any of your computer players (Premiere Elements not involved)?
Bottom line may very well be a problem with the availability of the MotionJPEG video codec to Premiere Elements.
The 3 remedies that one frequently sees:
    a. file conversion
    b. download, install of MotionJPEG codec
    c. grabbing appropriate codec from a camera utility if the camera has such a utility.
Please review and let us know if you have any further questions.

  • Published .avi from Captivate is shorter in Adobe Media Encoder

I published 8 slides from Captivate 4 to .avi video format.  When I play the .avi in Windows Media Player, it works great.  I'm using Adobe Media Encoder to convert it to .flv file to use in my Flash project.  When I import the .avi to AME, it's shorter and the audio on the last slide is cut off.  I tried inserting a duplicate slide with silent audio in Captivate to extend the duration by 10 seconds.  Still, the .avi is 2:57 in length and when I import it to AME it's 2:47.  It makes no difference if I extend the last silent slide to even 25 seconds.
Is this an issue with AME or with Captivate 4?  How do I fix it?
    Thank you!

Here's the info I can provide at this time:
Yes, it seems that this only affects .avi files published from Captivate.  Other .avi files reflect the correct length when imported to AME.
    Using AME CS4 4.2.0.006.
    Using Captivate CS4 4.0.0.1596.
Yes, it happens with every .avi file published from Captivate.  I've tried the following and still the last slide (#8) was cut off at the end including its audio:
extended last slide (#8) for more than a minute after the audio stops
extended the audio on the last slide (#8) by inserting silence for additional 30 seconds
added another slide (#9) after the last slide
added another slide (#9) after the last slide with 30 seconds of silent audio
I did find a temporary solution, however.  I added a transparent object (rectangle) a few seconds after the audio ended on slide 8 and when I published to .avi, Captivate recognized the added object and published the video to include the added animation.
You may download a zipped file containing the Captivate project and the published .avi from here:

I downloaded the openshot tarball off their website (openshot.com) and checked/installed the list of dependencies that came with it in the README file, (this)
OpenShot Video Editor is programmed in Python, and thus does not need
to be compiled to run. However, be sure you have the following
dependencies in order to run OpenShot successfully:
    1) Python 2.5+ (http://www.python.org)
    2) GTK & pyGTK (http://www.pygtk.org)
    3) GooCanvas & Python bindings (http://live.gnome.org/GooCanvas)
    4) MLT Framework (http://www.mltframework.org)
    5) Sox audio library
    6) Frei0r video effect library
    7) FFmpeg
Afterwards, I cd into the openshot directory, to run this command:
    $ sudo python setup.py install
which triggers the setup.py file in it, but the shell gave me this error output
    [wordstrings@DTR-Arch-Linux openshot-1.4.3]$ sudo python setup.py install
    [sudo] password for wordstrings:
    File "setup.py", line 23
    print "Execution path: %s" % os.path.abspath(__file__)
    ^
    SyntaxError: invalid syntax
Is there anyway I can alter line 23 in setup.py so the install command will work?

  • Difference between published Captivate 5.5 swf and Captivate 7 swf?

I have a custom SCORM framework built in Flash that handles all of the calls to an LMS, and I simply insert published SWFs from Captivate; everything has been working great for a few years now.  The problem I am experiencing now is that content that I have published from Captivate 5.5 shows up just fine, but I upgraded to Captivate 7 and now the SWF files hang during loading, or simply show a black screen.   My client uses SumTotal LMS, so I first thought it might be an issue with the LMS, but this is the case in every single LMS I have tested in, so it is definitely some anomaly in the different versions of the published files.
So I guess I am trying to figure out what is different between the two SWFs published in different versions?

I don't think so that it is the soulotion for this problem , but you in publish setting/ start and end part (something like this, I don't remember the name completely ) /  you can turn off the preloader and fade in at start checkbox and turn on the autoplay.
this can solve the problem temporary till adobe find better way for it .

  • Transferring 8mm and other video formats

I'm doing lots of video projects in FCE for people with older video formats like 8mm. I was going to just buy a 8mm camcorder to play these tapes because I figured I can get one relatively inexpensive ($100 or so) and just use it as my player. I know there are also player decks for these tapes that are more expensive ($300ish) and I was just wondering what other video editors out there were using? An old camera or did you buy a player. Any tips or advice regarding brands, places to look, would be appreciated.

    Hello There,
You will need to buy a Digital8 camcorder. FCE won't take the regular 8 or Hi8 video without it being converted to digital. A Digital8 camcorder can play regular 8 and Hi8 tapes and can also convert them for use with FCE.
