Swf insert streaming video

Per adobe connect instruction http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402630.html
I should be able to play the streaming flv video embedded in swf object.
Followed exactly on the instrution and the swf streaming video didin't run in presenter after publish.
I created swf in flash CS3 and i able to view the preview of the video but inserted in presenter as swf didn't run.
Any advice? i have large video that i need to embedded into presenter slide.

Not sure why but it sounds like there might be something going wrong when you are creating the SWF. There are a lot settings that need to be correct to Flash.
You can easily just publish the SWF in Adobe Connect directly. That is what I do. I do not think it is best to embed a large video inside Powerpoint. I think it is better from a presentation point of view to have your Presenter course but have the video shared as a separate pod in your room. That way the two are independent. It's more efficient as well since your Powerpoint doesn't become huge in size. You can publish SWF and FLV video natively using the share document pod.

It's glad to hear that your are using configurator. I'm not very sure I understand your problem. But I think you may be interested with this.
I'd created a patch for Configurator 2.0, which added a slider bar for VideoPlayer, then you can drag the slider to jump in the video. See the screen shot.
The patch file is attached in this post as a picture file.
If you want apply it, please download it, and rename to "PS12Template.swf".
And go to your configurator 2.0 panel folder. It should be "c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Panels\<Your Panel Name>\content\".
And use "PS12Template.swf" to replace your "<Your Panel Name>".swf.
Then restart photoshop.

Does Captivate 7/8 support *Dynamic* Streaming Video for synchronized Multi-Slide videos?

I'm experimenting with inserting Streaming Video into Captivate Lessons. I've set up an Adobe Media Server (AMS) to stream the video.
When inserting Multi-Slide Synchronized video, it's not clear whether/how I can insert a Dynamic Streaming Video link in a synchronized Multi-Slide Video.
(The Dynamic videos can switch between videos of varying quality based on the user's available bandwidth.)
I think you're supposed use a URL that points to a manifest file (.F4M), which catalogs the videos of varying bitrates. However, I can't seem to get it to work in Captivate and Adobe is a little vague on how/if one references the manifest file. (i.e. I can't find any examples.)
So, does Captivate support dynamic streaming video?
If not, which is more robust in Captivate? HTTP progressive download or regular (non-Dynamic) RTMP Streaming Video?

We did some more tests/checking-around and have convinced ourselves that the URL needs to point to the manifest file in order for Dynamic Media Streaming to work.
When we examined the Adobe Media Server sample web page (below), we found buttons to select different media sources.
The 'Multiple Bitrate' button under RTMP Dynamic Streaming Sample is mapped to the URL of an F4M (manifest) file.
The 'Single Bitrate' button is mapped to an individual mp4 file.
We also found more clues in the FlowPlayer RTMP F4M page.
Also, I'm guessing that Captivate can't handle adaptive bitrate streaming from non-RTMP sources based on the menu options. (See screen capture below)
If the menu above is correct, the first choice is the opposite of streaming media, because it says 'Progressive Download'. (Progressive download caches the video file on the client machine.)
The next one is for private Adobe Media Streaming and the third is for 3rd-party Adobe Media Streaming services.
So, I'm pretty much convinced that it's not supported.

Streaming video vs. .swf

I have created a number of CP modules for a client whose web
gurus say that their server cannot play 'streaming video'. I think,
please correct me, there is a misunderstanding on their part.
When we are playing a .swf of a CP project, the streaming
video capabilities of a server shouldn't be an issue. Right? Is it
possible that swfs files couldn't playback in this situation?
Streaming video seems much more demanding from a bandwidth
perspective than a swf file.

If you stream from a Media Server (RTMP-Real Time Messaging
Protocol), it is only sending data that is currently being viewed,
therefore, no it doesn't cache to the users comp. It is sending
packets of data as you are watching it. Progressive download, yes,
it is caching to the users machine, and even if the user leaves
before finishing the video, it will continue to download until it
has completed. RTMP, you can scrub the video to the very end as
soon as it starts playing since it is only sending the necessary
data at that point in time. Progressive, you have to wait until the
video downloads to view that part of the video.

based video must be in SWF format encoded using the old Sorenson
codec. That means your video files must completely load before they

Ahh, if only that were entirely true!
While you're correct that you can embed flash in your
Presenter files, it's still not possible to use the latest On2 VP6
codecs which is what you need to do if you want high quality large
size video files. Using the Sorenson codec which is what would be
required by your suggestion, means that the video tends to be quite
pixillated and limited to a small frame size, otherwise you end up
with lots of buffering delays.
Our solution allows you to run fullscreen video of unlimited
length from within Presenter and it works in self-paced
presentations and meeting room environments too.
On the issue of posting information about a product on a

(Streaming) Video in PDF Functionality? and other fun things.

Hi guys,
I'm creating an internal nationwide newsletter for my company Opening in Full Screen. I've have a four minute video introduction from the chairman at the top of the page.
The Plan in theory is that the user will read the blurb then click on the poster of the video.
Then the video should open in a floating video (in the middle of the screen) and play automatically. And close when finished.
I've just used the insert video action in PDF. Used "clicked on content" floating window. Auto hide controls.
My problems are:
The floating window always appears in the top right, there is no setting on how to correct this.
The video doesn't automatically play. You have to move the mouse over the window to unhide the controls and press play on what look to be a blank window. Once the window opens id really like the video to start playing. then once its finished for the movie to close.
Also on some machines the timeline bar on the player has a bright green hatch across it. The video plays fine. I just want to know what it is.
From the research ive done, it seems this could be possible to do all in flash and insert a floating swf with the video.
But im quite a basic user in flash. So im looking for advice/help/moral support or just a nudge in the right direction.
Im using adobe pro extend 9.1. Ive got a flv 320x240 with is stream from my companies internal web server.

You can do this by using embedded Flash/Flex content in the PDF. Write or otherwise acquire a simple video player in Flex that points to your company internal webserver, and then embed that Flex app in your PDF as a Rich Media annotation instead of the video itself.

Streaming video into HTML5 content

Hi
I just wanted to check that it is possible to stream (rather than progressively download) video into captivate HTML5 output. I know this can be done when outputting to to SWF but my client wants to go HTML5 only and the video content has to hosted off the LMS

Try the option menu Video/Insert Video/Event Video, off course as quoted on the window itself the video must be on a media streaming.
If doesnt work, one time I have to use a streaming video too, I use the youtube widget and uploaded my videos to youtube so youtube will handle all streaming (the best choice for me).
In another project I needed an small intro video, so I used JS (using methods like listeners and jquery) to

Streaming video stops when initiate closed captioning

So our company has a streaming video feed coming from the folks over at quickplay.com.
All was good watching the streaming video in Safari (iOS 8 and Mac 10.10)...UNTIL you turn on closed captioning. Now anytime you load the feed you get a "Missing plug-in" message with "This page contains content of “application/vnd.apple.mpegurl” type. You do not have the plug-in required to view this content."
Close/restart Safari, or rebooting does nothing...happens on the Mac and iPhone. So I came across the enable Accessibility options for closed captioning on both devices in Settings and nothing.
One of our staff needs to view this feed with the CC on to monitor it. So I guess first where on both devices is it caching the preference to use CC and making them unable to stream the feed any longer. And then...why is this not working?

What is the subject matter of these FLVs?
If it's Captivate screen captures, then you could have added the CC text to each slide if you had left them as FMV slides.
However, if the video content is of other things, e.g. people talking or some type of action captured with a video camera, then I believe your best solution would be to add the Closed Captioning in whatever tool you used to edit and publish the video.
As I mentioned before, Captivate doesn't really provide a mechanism for adding CC text to on screen objects that contain audio in any form. So for example, you cannot add CC text to an SWF that you've inserted as an animation, even though you can record and add audio to that SWF in Captivate. Videos are in a similar position, except that they usually don't have their audio added in Captivate. They mostly come with their audio track built in. This means the only real way to guarantee good synchronisation of the CC text is to have it embedded in the video as well.

Embed streaming video from FlashMedia Server 2 in a Captivate Course

I am trying to add streaming video from FlashMedia Server 2
Developer Edition in a Captivate 3.0 course. The streaming server
is working fine and I can stream video from a Flash 8.0 file. The
problem seems to be in Captivate 3.0 because the video will not
display in a Captivate swf file. The html and swf file resides on
the web server therefore it cannot not be a security issue. When I
try to play the Captivate file; it does make connection to the
media server however the flv file will not stream. The Bytes
Out(Bytes to the client) number stops incrementing after a 1,000
bytes. Once you close the browser then the connection to the media
server is lost. However if I insert a .fla file from Flash
8.0(which will connect to the streaming server and play) and
publish it in the Captivate project; It will connect to the server
and playback the audio but not the video. I turned on and off
hardware acceleration on my video card thinking that was the
problem. I would appreciate any help on this. Once I get this to
work I can justify purchasing the full version of the Flash Media
Server.

I think this isn't really an InDesign issue at all. It sounds like an Acrobat issue.
First, you haven't said what version of Acrobat you're using. I'm assuming Acrobat X Pro?
I've used this with a friend's Flash Media Server so I know it works. What version of Flash server do you have installed?
I the link you provide I see a spaceband after the word "test" in the path. Could that be a problem?
Other than that, it appears that you're following the requirements listed in the Help file for Acrobat X Pro.

How can I stream video with Flash?

Within the placeHolder is an external swf containing an mpg
video.
How can I code the preloader of the external swf to stream
the mpg?

if you mean stream as in streaming video, you need the
communication server.
if you mean preload the file, you can do so with various
components in flash.

CP6: Streaming Video Doesn't Work in HTML5

Apparently, streaming video just doesn't work if you publish to HTML5 from Captivate 6. I have that directly from Adobe tech support.
I have been working with Adobe tech support on this issue, but I want to do a bit of crowd-sourcing and see if anyone in the community has come up with a solution. Has anyone found a solution or workaround for this?
We are publishing courses to HTML5 and SWF, and the courses contain streaming video. The streamed video works PERFECTLY in the SWF version in multiple browsers. The HTML5 vesion just....doesn't. By that I mean that the places where the video is supposed to appear are just blank - no black or white placeholder, no controls but no video - just a whole lot of nothing. The other objects in the published SCO work great, but no video. Again - the failure is ONLY in HTML5. Apparently it has something to do w/ the fact that HTML5 handles video "differently," though I have yet to get an explanation of what that actually means.
We've tried several video formats, but none of them work.
We've tested by publishing to just HTML5 and playing it locally in a browser, and by trying to play it from our LMS and from SCORM Cloud (in various browsers/platforms and on various mobile devices) - none work.
All thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you, but as I said - I have been working w/ Adobe on this. I received word about the update, immediately asked my contact if the update addressed the HTML5 and streaming issue, and he said no - it did not. I went ahead and tried it, just in case, and indeed it still does not work.
As I understand it, this is not an isolated incident where it doesn't work for me - it's an actual problem with the software. The way that Captivate 6 publishes streaming video is incompatible with the way that HTML5 "understands" video.
I was hoping someone had come up with a good workaround or found a solution independently.

How to stream video in muse. the link cory provided may 2012 is unavailable

I need to stream video onto my muse site asap. Tried to click link provided by Cory back in May but it is unavailable.

Is that a Youtube video? If yes, and you would just like to embed it on one of your Muse pages, simply grab the embed code from youtube and paste it through Object -> Insert HTML option.

Streaming video in interactive pdf

I have read everything I can on this subject, and although it looks like I should be able to do it, I have so far been unable to make it work!
My dilemma: Creating an Interactive PDF from InDesign CS6, and I would like to include links to various streaming video's throughout the pdf. I would like them to run within the pdf (as a floating window), not pop out to the users web browser. I would like people to be able to play them, and then play them again if they need to listen again, aka, loop, I guess.
My attempts: I have created the Play button (to launch the video) in InD and when I exported it to PDF, I tried to set the video up there. I had minimal success with that route. I've also tried to do the whole thing directly in InD, including the link to the video, but had no success.
I have downloaded two different replacement Flash players and tried to make both of them work, but with no real success. However, I fully admit that I am not as technically savy as what they expect, since I really don't get the whole "do this in Java" part. I tried to copy their script stuff in and replace my info where I saw it fit, but apparently there is other things going on that I am not getting.
Help! If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Or even if there is somewhere you can steer me to learn how to do it, I'll go. So far, most of the stuff has been programmatically over my head, even though I'm not a new user to the Creative Suite, unfortunately, it's all been print.

First thing to say is that if you want the video to be truly "streaming" it has to be served from an Adobe Media Server platform using the RTMP/RTMPE protocol.
Assuming you have the URL of such a stream, it's easy to create the annotation in Acrobat Pro. If you want a floating window and a 'play' button, this is the simnplest workflow as there's no scripting involved - but you need to create an image that will act as the button.
Use the Add Video tool to draw a region on the page which will be where your 'play' button sits.
In the Insert Video dialog there's a "Select file or insert URL" field at the top - in there, type the full URL of your RTMP stream.
Click "show advanced options" and select "Create poster from file", then open your image of the play button.
Set the playback style to "floating window" and enter the dimensions of the stream.
Click OK.
If you already have the graphic for the play button as part of the PDF page itself, you can use a different workflow:
Use the Add Video tool to draw a very small region on the page which will be where the video poster sits (it has to exist but you want to hide it somewhere...).
Set the video options as before and click OK.
Use the Add Link tool to create a link region around the play button shape on your page.
Set the link to "Custom Action"
On the Actions tab, set the event to "Multimedia Operation (Acrobat 9 and later)", choose your video from the list, then in the lower area choose Play.

Streaming videos from Cloudfront in Captivate 6

Hi,
I'm really hoping someone out there can explain this to me in as simple a way as possible.
I have a large project with 10 video files at various points throughout the course. I've run some tests with the videos set to progressively download, but they're not buffering very well. The video will pause to download (as expected), but as soon as it plays again it skips ahead to a later point in the video. The longest video is 2 minutes and I've managed to keep the file sizes around 10 to 20MB.
Since the progressive download route is failing dismally, I'm trying to set the videos up for streaming. We already use Amazon S3 and I have now enable Cloudfront as well. I've set up a dedicated bucket on S3 with some video files in it and edited the ACL accordingly (everyone can "read" the contents). Then I've created a distribution on Cloudfront.
The setup in Captivate for a video looks like this:
Video Type: Streaming Video
URI: rtmp://xxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net/cfx/st
Stream Name: mp4:Video 1.f4v
Autoplay = Yes
Auto Rewind = Yes
I've tried using an mp4 video. I've followed the workaround instructions here: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/03/workaround-for-video-streaming-issues-in-captivat e.html. And, I've tried a few variations. Nothing has worked yet. If anybody has managed to work with Cloudfront and Cp6 and can provide step by step instructions for making it work, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your wisdom.
I wouldn't be surpirsed if I'm missing something obvious - e.g. I'm previewing in a browser (pushing f12 in Captivate) - should that work or should i be publishing and running the course from a server in order for the videos to show up?

I've tested the video again as an mp4 with all lower case and no spaces (just underscores) and still had no luck. I tried three Stream name variations: video_1 / video_1.mp4 / mp4:video_1
If the setup that I had above for the video type and URI is right, then maybe the problem lies on the Cloudfront side. Here's what I did there...
In S3, I created a new bucket at the top level as xyz-abc and put the video_1.mp4 in there. I edited the ACL to make the folder and sub-folders readable to everbody.
In Cloudfront, I then created a Streaming (not download) distribution and pointed it at xyz-abc.s3.amazonaws.com
The distribution is Enable and Deployed.
From there I added the video to my Cp 6 slide as an event video "already deployed to a server..." and put the following in to the URL field rtmp://xxxxxx.cloudfront.net/cfx/st and hit OK.
The Video is inserted with the following message: "Failed to load the video file. The file path or the URL may be invalid." I just said yes and fixed up the URI and so on under the video properties to match the setup in my original post (with the appropriate variations for the mp4 video instaed of f4v).
I tried to use the detect size feature, but that gives the same Invalid URL message.
I haven't once managed to import the video without seeing the error message, so that probably has a lot to do with why it's not working.
Please could you see if you can spot where I'm going wrong?

Streaming video brickwall.

Ok guys. I have searched high and low for a solid week and
looked through this whole site to find nothing on my issue. I am
currently trying to stream video from a webpage. Here is my setup:
Server 2003
Flash Media Server 2 (on seperate server by itself)
Apache 2.2
PHP
I have added the MIME types to apache and have no firewalls
that are currently blocking any ports. Both servers are on the same
network within my domain. When I look at the page with the video on
it, there is nothing but a white space. Not even the controls that
are on the .swf file show up. I am making a connection to the FMS
because I am getting a connected on the Admin Console and it shows
a stream but shows the stream status idle and no bytes being
transferred. The file structure I have the flv in is
/applications/videostreaming/myflvs/streams/***.flv with the
main.asc file in the videostreaming folder. I am using Dreamweaver
CS3 to add the stream to the page. Can't decide if it is because of
Dreamweaver or the FMS server not working correctly. I am
completely stumped.

My only issue now is that my video to the worldwideweb is
very choppy. I thought that if I have my FMS server on a different
box than my webserver, they could connect internally and still be
able to stream the video through the webserver out onto the www.
Apparently I need an outside ip for my FMS box as well. Am I
incorrect in this assessment?
