SWF not recognized by Safari

Hi all,
Most flash based content loads fine, youtube etc. But a page that my co-worker is working on won't load SWF files. In fact, a couple pages won't. They don't show up on the activity monitor or anything. Everything else is up to date, I've un- and re-installed the flash player, and I've repaired my disk permissions. Still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be going on?

That's his embed code. I'm not as up on embedding flash this way, I usually use a javascript file, and he can be... hard headed.

  • Shockwave file (.swf) not recognized

    Hi there
I wonder if anyone can help me - I've created an animation in
Freehand MX 11.02 (for Mac) and exported it as an .swf file. When I
tried to import it into Power Point 2004 for Mac, the error message
came up, saying that it's not a recognized movie file. When I
looked under the help section for Power Point, .swf files can be
imported into Power Point. Could it perhaps be any setting that's
wrong when I save it as an .swf file? I've tried to save it also in
the uncompressed format, but still no luck.
    Will appreciate any input.
    Best regards

as old FreeHand is the swf format is probably very old too.
Probably older than PowerPoint 2004 will accept. Export (and
import) filters in FreeHand or not very good and the swf file
format FreeHand creates may be just very incompatible.
I checked PowerPoint 2007 (Win) and it seems that swf files
can be included but they can't be imported but like images but a
controller must be used. I tried it and it works. PowerPoint can't
play swf files but flash player must be installed. Check PowerPoint
    documentation for more information.
This is from PowerPoint 2007 help file:
Install the Flash Player on your computer.
In PowerPoint, in Normal view, display the slide on which you
    want to play the animation.
Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click PowerPoint
    Options.
Click Popular, and then under Top options for working with
PowerPoint, select the Show Developer tab in the Ribbon check box,
    and then click OK.
Note The Ribbon is a part of the Microsoft Office Fluent
    user interface
On the Developer tab, in the Controls group, click More
    Controls.
In the list of controls, click Shockwave Flash Object, click
OK, and then drag on the slide to draw the control.
Resize the control by dragging the sizing handles.
Right-click the Shockwave Flash Object, and then click
    Properties.
On the Alphabetic tab, click the Movie property.
In the value column (the blank cell next to Movie), type the
full drive path, including the file name (for example,
C\:MyFile.swf) or uniform resource locator (URL) to the Flash file
    that you want to play.
To set specific options for how the animation plays, do the
following, and then close the Properties dialog box:
To play the file automatically when the slide is displayed,
set the Playing property to True. If the Flash file has a
Start/Rewind control built into it, you can set the Playing
    property to False.
If you don't want the animation to play repeatedly, set the
    Loop property to False.
So it is not a compatibility issue. Just like many users here
blame Adobe for just about everything I have a bad habit of blaming
    Macromedia - without checking first.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 not recognized by Safari

When I could not view a PDF file in Safari, I trashed the Safari preferences, restarted Safari, and pointed it to a PDF file that would typically launch Acrobat to present the PDF file. Safari asks me to specify the Acrobat application that will be used as the PDF viewer. Safari tolerates my choice of Acrobat Professional 8, which is still on my computer after having installed CS4, but the selection of Acrobat Pro 9 can't be made because it is dimmed.
Does this mean that I must keep Acrobat 8 around indefinitely, or is there another way to select Acrobat Pro 9 as Safari's chosen PDF viewer?

Open Acrobat 9 go to help go to repair and replace and see if there is an item for Safari Plugin if so choose to install.
If you use the Plugin from Schubert for PDF. remove that from your internet plugins Folder from within main Libarary folder or within the Internet Plugins folder in libary folder in your User Profile folder. If you have both plugins remove the adobe PDF plugin.
Then restart Safari. THe Schubert Plugin works with Safari, but also with Mozilla, Opera, OmniWeb and others while the adobe one only works with Safari only. When using OS9 the Pdf Plugin for Acrobat worked with any browser even Mac's version of Internet Explorer.
Why Adobe want to go backwards and support only one browser, when Safari has but just a very small following, I'll never know.

It works in Photo Booth, but both Safari and Firefox only show a USB Cam, but only use the built in iSight camera.  The Flash settings only shows one cam and says it's the USB one, and iSight is no longer listed.
    Any suggestions?

  • Content in fields on web page not recognized in Safari on Mavericks

Sometimes when I am filling out an order form on a web page in Safari and try to save the page some fields say thay are empty when they have information in them.  It stops me from being able to contiue with the order.  I fill out the same form in Firefox and it processing correctly.  I have noticed this happening mostly on State or Country drop down menu's.  Safari Version 7.0 (9537.71),  Mac OS X version 10.9.

You may need to disable, "Autofill" in Safari > Preferences > Autofill for some websites.

  • Adobe PDF Viewer not recognized by Mac Safari

An internet-based program (LEED Online: https://www.leedonline.com/irj/go/km/docs/documents/usgbc/leed/config/common/login/browser AdobeReq.htm)  I run through Safari requires the Adobe PDF Viewer plugin to be installed. When I upgraded my Safari to 5.1.7 (which a program I used requires) the dobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.4 shows as installed, but the AdobePDFViewer.plugin is not recognized by Safari.
I have tried re-installing Adobe XI to see if the PDFViewer.plugin installs, and it does not. When I revert back to Adobe 10.1.4 the same is true--no PDFViewer Plugin. I am using MacOSX 10.6.8 which is also required.
    I need the following:
    Mac 10.6.8
    Adobe 10.1.4 or XI
Safari 5.1.7 (not negotiable for the program that I use through Safari)
Please help, as this is work related!!

  • Iphone not recognized by itunes and my safari also will not open??? Help??

I bought an iphone and synced it. When unplugging it, I realized all my apps I downloaded were gone off the iphone (I did find them in the itunes folder however) but the issue is, my Safari and my itunes program will NOT open. They bounce once and that is it, never opens. No errors, nothing. I have been going insane trying to figure out what the problem is. Anyone else have this issue?

  • Windows media player not recognized as a valid plug-in in safari?

on this PB 15 1.67/OS 10.4.3 I experienced some difficult in installing a piece of software, here's the thread....
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1360929#1360929
prior to this difficulty, I had installed windows media player to access video clips embedded on news web sites etc, and everything worked fine, video usually streamed right into the media player, not saving a file to the desktop, but merely playing in a window....
to solve the software install problem above, I returned to the apple store & they suggested and helped me accomplish an archive & re-install of the OS, and afterwards, the problem software installed properly...
since the archive & re-install of OS 10.4.3, my windows media player is not recognized as a valid plug-in by safari.
when I click on a video link (embedded), a seperate window appears that describes my need to install windows media player 9 for mac (and it's already in my app's folder), when I download the file to attempt re-installing media player, stuffit doesn't seem to un zip the file after double clicking on it, no app file appears on the desktop to mount in the apps dierctory?
if the video link is not embedded, I can cntrl-click and save the file to the desktop and it will play normally, but if the file is embedded I have no means to see the news clip etc?
also, for those video files that are not embedded, instead of playing directly via streaming, when a link is clicked, the file downloads to the desktop before playing?
these aren't huge problems (well when trying to view an embedded news clip it is!) but any help in trying to return to normal behaviour would help!
    thanks again,
    dave
    powerbook G4 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

thanks for the link, but I wa really looking into making the win media player function as it had before I had to archive & re-load OS 10.4.3
I use the player infrequently, but it drives me crazy when I'm looking @ a news page w/an embedded video and can't merely click it's link & see the clip!
any thoughts on why I can't get the win media player sitx file to un-stuff and possibly re-install win media player to allow safari to recognize it as a valid plug-in?
    thanks again....

  • CSS okay in IE but not recognized by FF and Safari

I have a style sheet for image floats that is attached to a html document within a php file that is recognized by IE but is not recognized by Firefox and Safari. I have attached it as an internal style sheet as well as an external style sheet and neither makes a difference.  HELP!

I've cleaned up the code in the html file within the php file per your instructions by removing the embedded CSS and deleting the <html>, <head> and <body> tags.  This seemed to clear any conflicts on the php file (http://www.mdy.lib.in.us/index.php). However the page is still showing okay in IE but not in FF and Safari. Below is my revised html code...what am I not getting right?

Try resetting it: hold the on/off and home buttons 10-20 seconds until you see the Apple logo (ignoring the off slider that appears first), then release.  If it won't reset you may need to put it in recovery mode and restore it as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.

When I reset safari I have everything checked. It does not hurt anything. What you did was one of the fixes I saw, The other was to not use tabs in safari. The reason I asked you to go to extension in safari preferences is to see if you had adware hiding in there. Apparently  you are not the only one using gmail that runs into this. You could go to you home folder/library/preferences and delete ether the safari plist. or the mail plist. I don't know which would control gmail. But the next time you open those apps the preferences recreate themselves. Some people set up their mail account in mac as gmail. The only think is the incoming is an imap instead of pop. And you are right, there is no update for safari. you would have to update your operating system. I run snow leopard to. My daughter runs yosemite, If I were to go to yosemite,I would have to delete a couple of apps as they will not run there.
