Swf or flv files on Quicktime.

I would like to know how to convert swf or flv files to Quicktime. It's been quite frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Quicktime can't play SWF flies. Quicktime stop being able to play SWF files about 5 years ago because of security issues with the files. Quicktime could only play SWF file from Flash version 5 and below. Anyway, if you could convert the SWF file to Quicktime you will loose most of the SWF animation.

  • Controller for .swf and .flv files is disappearing

When I place an .swf or .flv file in Dreamweaver, the controller, which I created in Flash, disappears when previewed in Safari. Do I forget about creating a controller in Flash before exporting to the site directory in Dreamweaver and create it in Dreamweaver instead? Can someone either tell me in simple terms how to do this, or direct me to a tutorial?  Many thanks.

If you put the page, the .flv file, the .swf files, and the Scripts folder online, we should be able to help. Otherwise, all we can do is make wild guesses as to what you've done.
BTW, the most common mistake is forgetting to upload the Scripts folder if this is what I think it is.

  • Firefox should display .swf and .flv files without Adobe. You can do it can't you?

If the program, 'Media Player Classic' can play .swf and .flv files, the surely Firefox programmers can do for those what was done for .pdf files. PLEASE!

hello, mozilla is indeed working on it, but this is not an easy task...

  • Uploaded swf and flv files - right ?

    Hi all -
Just getting to grips with flash movies, however not 100%
i've got it right as yet ! Could someone with experience in flash
movies confirm the files to upload are the swf and flv files to our
server ? Everything appears OK when viewing the movies - take a
quick look here www.sofabedgallery.co.uk/cosmosofa.php however I'm
just a little concerned of the size of the flv file at a couple of
mb. Is this the correct file to upload or should I try to upload
    the fla smaller file?
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

    Hi ,
You can publish your project as MP4 with Cp6. For that --
Do -- File-- Publish-- Media--- (Choose Dropdown) MP4 and (adjust settings, if you like) Hit publish.
You can use the Adobe Media Encoder to convert the Video into FLV format.
Also, you can use the SWF option on Publish Screen to publish the project as a Flash File.
    Thanks!

  • Director 12 on MAC not playing .flv files; only Quicktime

Although Adobe has now abandoned .flv as a supported format (which is too bad) I used it for putting embeded cue points into the movie to trigger Flash actionscript and create essentially closed captions (under the video).
Then I use the .swf movies within Director.
The problem is, on my machine, and some others, it works as expected.  On some machines, the .flv never loads and therefore never plays.  The Flash video component skin looks like it's just constantly trying to download the movie (green bars moving in the playback scrubber).
As a work-around; I now have put in text behind the videos saying "Due to the Adobe vs Apple Wars, the video isn't palying on all Apple computers.  Please type 'a' to play the video in a window, and 'x' to close that window before proceeding".
That, essentially, opens a MIAW (Movie in a Window) using lingo from the director shell, which just plays a Quicktime movie...and a bar underneath that reminds them to type "x" to close the window.
The difficulty with that is multi-fold; including
having to supply all videos in (2) formats (Quicktime and FLV) which is pushing the size limits of a DVD,
and more importantly it doesn't have the cue points for closed captioning.  I believe there are ways to embed that in the Quicktime movie; but that will be an additional burden, and
it's still not a very graceful way to integrate video playback.  The .flv's look great; and the I like how the playback component skin can have audio control, timer references, etc.
    Any advice?

A couple things may be at work here, and most likely related to the software installed on the targeted systems.
First, It could be a MIME type issue on the playback machine.  Typically FLV and F4V aren't "known" file extensions in the MIME list. They are added to the system MIME list when the Flash Player plugin or the now-deprecated Adobe Media Player is installed.
Secondly, The older versions of Mac (pre-Lion) supported FLV playback in QuickTime using Perian (also now deprecated Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components ).  I believe that was using Quicktime 7 versus Quicktime X (correct me if I'm wrong).  Mavericks doesn't really playback in QuickTime 7 anymore, even if you try to open using QT7.  It "forwards" over to version X  - which is annoying in my opinion as sometimes I want to use my QT7 Pro features.  But I digress...
An option that *may* work for you is to use an XML cue point list with the H.264 MP4 steaming videos instead of the FLV playback.  Then, do a message sent to the sprites to trigger a member .text change for your captions.  I know that CS5 Media Encoder had that capability to output an XML file.  Not certain if CS6 or CC retained this feature since they deprecated FLV/F4V.

Some ideas and rambling.    Hope it's of assistance.

  • How to convert a flash demo (either FLA or SWF) into FLV file

I first converted the FLA file into AVI file by using the option of export movie in my flash software. But the ouput was not good, the quality of the demo was hit. The animations looked shaky. Then I tried converting the same file into QT format but as I use Flash 8 I was told to change the version in the publish settings to either Flash 5 or a lower version which did not support the actionscript and the animations that my file had. My file occupies 13,320 frames which makes the FLA and the SWF file quite heavy. Is there any way in which I can convert my demo to FLV format without using a third party software and just use Adobe Flash and Adobe Flash Video Encoder to do the same?

I wanted to know how can the conversion be made without using any tool apart from Quick Time movie player and Adobe Video Encoder.
Though I managed to make the FLV file I discovered that the background music was not playing.
I want a solution through which I can make the FLV using only Quick Time player and Adobe Video Encoder and not lose the background music and the voice-overs that exist in my file.

  • SWF and FLV file  sizes

    Hello,
I have an flv file and the same flv file in an swf file. Both
files are the same size. So, it seems that it doesn't matter,
whether you import an flv file or an swf file, to keep your file
size small. Is this correct ?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    > I have an flv file and the same flv file in an swf file.
    Both files are
    > the
    > same size.
    That's just a coincidence.
There is different baggage / overheads with FLV vs SWF. So
    you will usually
get some differences .. sometimes SWF smaller, other times
    FLV. However,
the actual video payload is the same in both, and the audio
    is similar too,
and they are the bulk of the file size. So there shouldn't be
    a huge
difference in file size between SWF an FLV.

  • I use Perian, can't play .flv file on QuickTime.

Up until a month ago, I was able to copy video files from YouTube using Perian v1.2.3 (that's the last version they have).  I have Mac OS Snow Leopard v10.6.8 and all of a sudden, QuickTime X no longer recognizes .flv video files.  How do I get QuickTime to play .flv video files?  I also notice I have trouble finding the same kind of files that I could use to open on QuickTime on my Safari browser using the Downloads feature under Window.  I use Safari v5.1.7
If Perian no longer works, is there another application I could use to copy YouTube video files?

Hmm, Perian should provide flv playback in Quicktime. Maybe you need to update Perian? I used to always use Perian but since upgrading to Lion I have not installed it and now rely on VLC for non-apple standard media playback. Deluxe can handle the flv-format.It will convert flv to mov. Hope it helps

  • Website calling *.swf and *flv files from C:\

I am after information from someone who has achieved this. I
have a website that has a swf embedded in it that is calling a
swf/flv on my hardrive. Firstly is this possible or am I waisting
my time even trying this. I do realise the security issues involved
and I have read posts and tutorials about achieving this but I
still have had no luck. CAN ANYONE HELP ME BEFORE I START PULLING
    MY HAIR OUT!!

The reason why I want to access information from the hardrive
is because the information is about 600mb in all but cut up into
60mb parts or chapters. It is for an online learning system but
Australian BroadBand speeds are still way to slow for this sort of
system. I've tried to give these files permissions but I still get
issues. I am considering using Adobe AIR Technology and making a
desktop application that accesses small amounts of informaion from
the server, so basically turning this project on it's head.
If you do have some more information for me that would be
great but I think I'll go the AIR track.

  • Flash player/swf flv files behind members area not showing up

    Hi-
I am having problems with my swf and flv files. I have tried both going through adobe and JW players. My specific problem is this: I am posting to a non-mobile me server and these flash files are going behind a ccbill members area that you can only get to by signing in as a member through a paying website using ccbill. I saw Bob's post on the 11th and tried deleting the extra / I saw in my html files as well.. but that did not work. The pages come up without the flv or swv files. Have tried both. Shows up fine in iweb but when published it's not there. No error messages. Not even a blank box. It's just not there.
Any advice? Been to Old Toad, Roddy McKay, iwebunlimited (Jason) and iwebfaq (Cédric), apple forums iweb sites. Cannot find anything specific to members area so any advice would be very helpful!

Just so you know the Terms of Use for MobileMe accounts states the following:
    "*Limitations on Use*
You agree to use the Service only for purposes as permitted by these TOS and any applicable law, regulation, or generally accepted practice in the applicable jurisdiction. The Service is designed for personal individual use and is not intended to be used for commercial business purposes, including, but not limited to, transacting online sales or software distribution via an e-commerce site. "
The above is there to protect Apple in case of the server goes down or otherwise interrupts access to the sites and you lose income because of it.
MobileMe is not the best server to use for a commercial site. It's very slow and erratic in its performance. A commercial server, full service login type of password protection, i.e. each user has their own password and user name instead of one for everyone, etc., would be much more efficient and faster loading. Just some food for thought.

  • Are .FLV Files Supported in RoboHelp?

Are Flash Video (.flv) files supported in RoboHelp 7, or do
we still have to use other types? I tried inserting one into a
topic page just to see, but noticed that the .flv file type isn't
in the "Files of type" drop down field.
    Thanks.

At present, this is correct. You can upload and download .swf and .flv files like all other files. Creative Cloud has additional functionality around certain file types that enables you to view individual layers (.psd) or artboards (.ai) or pages (.pdf, .indd) directly in the browser. We will be adding additional capabilities like this for other formats in the future.

  • .FLV Files Corrupt?

Lately, a few videos I have loaded to sites have stopped
playing - this is after a period of playing successfully. I reload
the .FLV file and it plays normally again.
I do not make any changes to the .swf of .flv file -
reloading the .flv file to the server solves the issue. Also, the
size of the .FLV file remains the same.
Anyone know what is going on, or have a similar
    experience?

    Just to reiterate:
    1. A page with a .swf loading a .flv file
    2. video plays fine
    3. a few months later, video stops part way through
    a) consistently stops at the same place
    b) download bar shows video fully loaded
    4. reloading original .flv file fixes issue

  • FLV files

Ok, this is probably a silly question. I have some FLV files
given to me by someone else. I also have Adobe Flash CS3. Everytime
I try to open one of the FLV files in Flash, it takes me through a
short wizard(I choose progressive download) and then displays the
    main Flash screen.
Whenever I try to test the movie, or publish the movie, I get
nothing. Am I doing something wrong? How do I work with these FLV
    files?
    Thanks

If you have QuickTime Pro, and you download and install the Perian component for QuickTime:
    http://perian.org/
you can open an .flv file in QuickTime Player, then do a Save as self-contained movie and it becomes a .mov file, with an mpeg 3 sound track, and a Sorenson H263 video track. They aren't very big, 320x240, and when you play them on a 17" monitor or TV you can see a lot of compression artifacts.

  • How to play swf files in quicktime

I have recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MBP. Before I could play swf files (with no associated html files) in Quicktime okay, but in Snow Leopard you cannot select the swf to play. Is there a plug in that I now need to play this?

Perian is definitely not the route. Frrom http://perian.org :
File formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW
SWF is a special container made by Adobe Director and can be played back with streaming software, such as a Web page that has the Adobe Shockwave plugin. Open an SWF file in Safari or other browser after installing the latest Shockwave Player, free from Adobe. Some other software that is designed for streaming playback can play SWF media, but not a typical video player like QuickTime Player.
The contents of an SWF container might include an FLV video file or bitmap images either alone or with other data. Shockwave Player has 3D graphics and interaction options (can capture video, sound, mouse movements etc. from your system by default and send them to a remote server if you don't turn off these permissions).

  • How to get a flv file to match the quality of a quicktime file?

    - here's a 400kbps flash video

    - here's the same footage at a *lower* bitrate, 391kbps, in

    - QUESTION: why is the quicktime so much better-looking than
    the flash?
what settings should i be using in flash to convert a dv file
    to an flv file?
i prefer to show the footage in a flash player because it is
    cross platform.
i appreciate any advice anyone has!

Just thought i'd let you know, your links are broken so its
hard to give you any advice. Depending on the pixel size of the
movie, your data rate might be too low. The bigger pixel size of
the file the higher data rate is needed to keep details clear and
    pixelation down.
A good middle of the road data rate i've found is around
1500kbps. If you are hosting the file, just make sure to set the
buffer time to 3-4 seconds, to allow the users internet connection
    to keep ahead.
