Swiching ipod, trouble with library

Okay I started using an Ipod waaaay back in the day and when I was first using the software everything showed up in the itunes library i went from an ipod mini to a nano, and all i had to do was click and drag the music from the library to the nana icon.
So a couple of years ago my old ipod went bust and my parents gave me a new one for Christmas its a 2nd gen ipod nano its started having trouble where it would only turn on some of the time so my mom gave me her old ipod, when she got a new one, the one she gave me is a ipod nano 3rd gen
so here is my problem, when i was using my 2nd gen nano none of the music i have that is not purchased from itunes shows up in the main library (the one that shows even if you dont have an ipod pluged in) a lot of these songs are from CDs but i dont have a lot of those CDs anymore, the whole reason i use an ipod is because im really hard on my CDs and they always end up so scratched they wont play anymore. Anywho so i'm not sure how to get those songs from my 2nd gen nano to my 3 gen nano because in the past when i went to burn the music to a disk it would only want to burn the music from the main library.
any help or suggestions would be great appreciated.

Not sure it is the case but you might want to check if you have unecessary top and left properties that are on the timeline but unused. If so, delete these lines.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Trouble with library and installation

I have a gateway laptop running windows XP professional.
I had a library of music on itunes, and one time I opened up itunes and it was all gone. I am not sure if this was the result of pushing the reset button under the laptop--which I did do once-- or something else because I hadn't used itunes for a while. anyway, my library was gone. furthermore, songs I had ripped from legimate purchased CD's were also gone. I search for them on the hard drive and couldn't find them.
So, I uninstalled itunes, downloaded itunes 6 and installed it. now I open it, and it works, but everytime i do so, a window pops up that says
"the registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. this can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. please reinstall itunes."
but i did. and the same message came up. then i unistalled, redownloaded the file, and installed new again--but same message. I haven't been installing other stuff. can anyone help? furthermore, where are the music files of the stuff i ripped off my CD's at home?

okay, the following techniques usually fix this one.
(1) reboot your PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes. go to your Add/Remove programs control panel, select itunes, click "Change/Remove", and then select "Repair".
... but if no joy with that:
(2) download and reinstall the GEAR drivers that itunes uses for importing and burning. use the first link on this page, not the second one:

Trouble with library + syncing

I have songs from different providers and I loaded them to itunes and they are on my nano, but i can't seem to get them on my new touch. they aren't showing up in the icloud library and when i try to plug it into the computer the 'trust this computer?' message kept popping up even though i clicked yes. it still refuses to connect to itunes and won't even connect to computer though my other one is. I don't know what to do and im stuck in a very hard place :/ It refuses to take any music i want. what do i do to get my music onto my ipod?

I literaly feel like curling into a ball and crying right now i'm so frustrated. i have had this problem for a while and i like to figure things out on my own which didnt end well and im really stressed out about it

Ipod trouble with installing

I got an Ipod for chrismas but when I tried to install it, it didn't work, I chose my language and then connected my ipod and the computer tells me I have to reformate, I say oké because it's brandnew and there is nothing on it, but when it's reformating I get an error message: assertion b failed at ./iPodFormatFAT.ccp line 1068. What should I do??

30 GB iPod trouble with the volume limit option?

The volume limit continues to reset when I press the center button to desired limit! I rebooted the iPod and still have the same results! Help please?

You have to add the artwork yourself.
Here are a couple of methods.
First off, make sure you have "show album art" enabled in iPod options.  Go to Google Image Search and type in the artist/album name and click on search images.   Double click on a picture you like, then at the top of that page click on "see full size image".   When you get that image, simply copy/paste it into the space for album artwork in iTunes.   Make sure you select the album in the browser of iTunes before you copy/paste.   You'd be surprised what Google Images can bring up. There are literally millions, and even obscure album artwork can be found.
In the unlikely event that Google can’t find an image, you can also get artwork from Amazon.
If you’re happy using images from Amazon, and don’t want to copy/paste, then iTunes Art Importer is a nice free program to do it for you.

IPod trouble with vortex

I am having the same problem. Every time I launch Vortex the iPod restarts. It used to work... how can I fix this? Restarting doesn't help.

Ipod trouble with battery

when my 2nd generation ipod dies it just shows the apple icon, then i plug it up to my computer and it doesnt charge or respond. I have tryed installing itunes, restarting my ipod touch, turning off the computer... none of it works doesnt work...what do i do to make it work?

Aha! I have sorted it.
For those with similar problems, the solution is this:
Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers
Then delete DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin

I have been having a lot of trouble with the latest itunes update and my ipod classic 80Gb i.e. being unable to sync songs, but now i have no files at all on my ipod, it is completely blank when i view it from my computer. I need help, please, anybody.

As it says above, i have been having a lot f trouble with my ipod classic and the latest itunes update, i was unable to sync songs or anything to it and have tried every conceivable 'fix' i could find. i have run an itunes diagnostic and the results are posted below. a major problem is that when i try and view my ipod through my computer it displays nothing at all on the ipod, no files or anything, this may be the problem but i have no idea how it has happened or how i could resolve it.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

Trouble with iPhoto and iPhoto library manager.

I had trouble with my iPhoto constantly crashing, so I downloaded and used iPhoto Library Manager. Now when I am trying to get back to using iPhoto by re-importing my pictures, I keep getting a notification saying there is not enough space on my harddrive. I have spent a long time deleting large and unneccessary files all over my computer, but I am still unable to import my images to the iPhoto library.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? I am starting to get worried that I will never be able to reach my pictures again
+ I have deleted all iPhoto iPod caches or whatever they're called based on recommendation from many sites.

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

It means that the files are not stored on your hard drive anymore. So when you click on a song in iTunes, it comes up saying that it can't play the song. A file is missing. This means that when your hard drive crashed, you lost your data but iTunes some how kept you songs in iTunes. Sorry to have to say this, but it looks like you have to re-download every single song all over again.

Trouble with transfer of music to 80gig ipod,

For christmas my dad got a new 80 gig, black ipod, but were having trouble with transferring his huge library from his powerbook G4 to his ipod. It transfers about 300-400 songs then stops. We tried the "5 R's" and still are unsuccessful.
He keeps getting the error message:
"attempting to copy disk, failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
Any suggestions???
