Swing and windows system tray

could anyone please tell me whether it is possible to have a java swing application running on a windows machine, minimise into the system tray?
Thank-you.

AFAIK no. This is because the system tray is rather platform specific. I believe it is possible to have your app tuck itself neatly away in a corner of your desktop, and obviously you can minimise to the task bar. However without soem kind of native addition (maybe a custom launcher?) you can't minimise to the system tray.
Sorry

  • How Can I Minimize a VI to an Icon on the Windows System Tray?

How Can I Minimize a VI to an Icon on the Windows System Tray?

There are some examples available online, using both ActiveX and .NET. Try searching for "tray icon".
It's been a while since I looked at it, but if memory serves, the structures needed to load an icon through the Win32 API are actually quite complicated and not as simple as that article makes them out to be.

  • When creating the dock and the system tray ?

    Hy,
i have an desktop air application. I would like what is the best moment for creation the dock and the system tray: when the WindowedApplication dispatch CreationComplete event or when ?
    thanks

I don't think there are any initialization dependencies for the underlying AIR dock or system tray icon objects. Flex may have its own depenencies, but the docs don't list any. CreationComplete should be safe. Otherwise, you can create them whenever your application is ready to respond to any menu events that these objects might dispatch.

  • How to add program to windows system tray?

I heard from someone that in order to add a program to the system tray, I must use JNI. I want to ask whether there is any other alternative. If not, how do I go about doing it using JNI.
    Thanx in advance.

You can use the JTray API (Java System Tray API For
Windows) that can be found at http://www.JavaAPIs.com.
It supports several image types, animation, and
display of AWT and Swing Components as pop-ups. I always find it rather annoying when people scour past posts to promote a product that they have a vested interest in.
Especially when they don't point out that that they have such an interest.
Especially when they don't point out that the interest is monetary.
Especially when they do nothing but post ads - never actually answering a single question.
    Just me I suppose.

  • Java Swing and WIndows User Localles

    HI,
We need to develop a java applet/application which can be switchable at run time to accept and display characters in multilanaguages. This java applet will run on a windows 2000 server with multilanguage pack installed. Is it possible to dynamically switch languages at run time. The machines default localle and operating system installation is US English.
We have tried some tests with traditional chinese and UI components in Swing but with no success in displaying or inputing valid chinese characters. Has anyone attempted a simliar thing and have any insights that may help.
    Thanks in Advance,

Yes. It's called JList. Have a look at the tutorial:

  • Attaching window system tray icon events to java frame

I need to bring java frame to front on an event with the icon placed in the system tray. Like if I click the mouse on it.. the frame should come to front.
Any body who can help, I will really appreciate.
    Thanks in advance
    Zeeshan

I am very interested in implementing just such a thing with my Java application. I am in the starting phases of this project and ran across your post in my search for info.
How much do you already have implemented? I.E., can you display the icon but are just having trouble catching the events for when the icon is clicked? Or do you not even have the ability to display the icon yet? I have found the Windows documentation on the MSDN site for the shell function Shell_NotifyIcon(), which is what we want to use but I have not begun any attempts to use it yet.
If you (or anyone else) have any info or have had any success at all with this yet, I would be very interested in hearing how it works. I'll be happy to share any info I find, when/if I get that far.
    Thanks,

  • Wine and Plasma: system tray not integrated

I've read the wiki article on plasma and have installed libappindicator-gtk{2|3} as well as sni-qt and lib32-sni-qt.
Still, the wine system tray appears in a separate window. What do I do to make it appear inside the regular system tray?

Soukyuu wrote:That is... rather sub-optimal. So we have to wait until wine supports the new notification spec? Anyone knows of any plans of doing so?
There's a bug filed on WineHQ[1] about it, but not much happening with it (yet?).

  • IPhone and windows system recovery

hi i have an iphone and i did a system recovery recently (windows xp) and i was wondering if when i connect to itunes to sync it says delete all files. will it delete my photos, contacts and notes and music or just my music

    007bond,
If you put at least one contact into Outlook or Address Book, you will get the option to merge the contacts with your computer. Notes are not synced with the computer at all, so those should remain unchanged.
    Hope this helps,

  • Put on a new Firefox persona, but several sites didn't work with it, so I changed back to my previous persona. But now neither my Yahoo mail nor my GoDaddy mail works correctly, and Windows System Restore didn't help. How can I fix it?

Windows 7 system... everything was working correctly before the new persona. I have scanned and cleaned out my cache; no problems or viruses.

Actually, I've solved the problem. It wasn't the Persona at all. I got a clue that someone else had the same problem after using CCleaner, and I had just done the same thing. My problem was corrupted cookies. I tried several fixes - nothing worked - so I just ran CCleaner again, and it straightened everything out.

  • FTP vs. NFS- basic configuration and doubts - bt. unix and windows systems

    Hi all,
I need to configure a connection between PI (unix box) and a windows server using File Adapter (both sender and receiver).
    My doubts are:
    - Which is preferable type of conection: NFS or FTP?
    - Which are the advantages and disadvanteges of both?
    - Most important: Which are the prerrequisites for both ways? Such as installing server ftp, or mounting folders, OS configuration, security config. Etc. etc.
I will apprettiate if you could also post a direct link to documentation.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
NFS: when the file folder is available on the XI Server
FTP: when it is at remote
If the Sharing folder is in the same XI system then NFS..If the sharing folder is in different system it is FTP.
we will use NFS when we required to poll the files from local machines.and we will use FTP when we required to poll the data from the FTP server which are in the remote side or outside of the firewall
FTP (file transfer protocol) here you are getting data from ftp server or you are writing to FTP server.
NFS is used when your XI can access the file location directly using the NFS protocol.
When the File System can be access using FTP protocol, then you need to use FTP and provide the FTP server details and user crendentials to pull data from the File Server.
NFS is used when you want XI to use the NFS protocol to access thye location of the file.
FTP is File Transfer Protocol and is used when your Sender SYstem is using an FTP system to send / receiver files.
we are using NFS when we required to poll the files from local machines..
We are using FTP when we required to poll the data from the FTP server which are in the remote side or outside of the firewall..

  • Timing difference between Macbook and WIndows system

I uses a web content management system for my website which was developed in windows, IE and firefox compatible. I notice that if I open up the website in a Macbook Pro, the system time is always 8 hours ahead of Singapore time although the Macbook time settings is set locally. I use firefox, safari, IE5, same result. Which means whatever contents I saved only appears 8 hours later. I use Windows IE or firefox and it works just fine. I don't think is the CMS system problem. I thought it might just be on this Macbook, I got someone to try it out using another Macbook, same result, 8 hours ahead. So it it something about the Macbook settings?
    na   Windows XP Pro

    Hi Keonigt,
There are definitely hardware differences between the MacBook and its bigger sibling the MacBook Pro. You pointed out the first difference of screen sizes. Another perhaps obvious difference is the MacBook Pro's external construction is aluminum as opposed to "plastic". Another difference which may affect performance is that the MacBook Pro utilizes dedicated Video RAM as opposed to the MacBook's sharing it's VRAM with its RAM. This will affect gaming and other graphic intensive applications.
Depending on your needs and objectives - these differences will affect your decision. Of course, both are fantastic machines.
    Good luck.

  • WR110 and Windows 7 + Im connected to Internet but Icon in system tray shows red X

    Hi all,
I just upgraded both my notebook and Desktop, both of which are wireless.  The Notebook connected just fine, and the system tray shows connection bars.  However my destktop is also connected, but it shows the red x.   Not sure what I need to do to stay connected and have Wireless strength bars reappear.  When I click the connection it says " The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements for the network".  Also when I click on the red X in the system tray, the connections pop up, and I see the green bars and it says connected, but a few seconds later it goes to the red X, but Im still connected to the internet.  I have ATT DSL and they recently bridged the router to the DSL modem using PPPoe, but that was before I upgraded both PCs to 7 and I did not have this issue prior to upgrading.

    Quack,
I gave that a try, and changed my SSID.  On my notebook, it of course lost the Internet connection, I saw the new wireless network, and typed in the PW and it connected without issue.  However the DT which is where I am having the issue, is still doing the same thing.  I am connected to Internet as that is where Im typing this email from, but the 5 bars in the lower are still show that X even tho Im connected.  It does say the Security types do not
match, so I would go in and change to WPA Personal, TKIP, and type in the password, but still nothing.  I have noticed that when I enable and disable my Wireless adapter in the Desktop, 2 icons come back, one for the adapter, and one called. Microsoft Virtual WiFI miniport adapter, which I have disabled, but it does not make any diff if its enabled or not.
