Swipe up vs double clicking the home button. Can't grab the swipe handle!

The teachers at our school uses the Air Server software to project their iPads to their whiteboard for their students. We've always been able to double click the home button to get to the Air Play controls to turn it on but with the new update we can no longer double click, we have to swipe up. The problem is, we have all of our iPads in "kid proof" otterbox type cases and it is next to impossible to grab whatever it is that allows you to swipe up and get to those functions. Please tell me there is another option out there or please give us back the double click option.

Thanks and we actually have the Gumdrop cases here at school. Maybe they are different, idk, but it has caused a good bit of frustration. Is there a trick to  it?

In previous version of ISO it was easy to turn-off the opened apps by double clicking on home button and then click and hold on respective apps then click on cross sign but in this version I could not do so and my iPad appears slower.

    Close inactive apps
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

It was never necessary except in certain unusual circumstances.

  • IOS 5 no camera icon EVEN after double click of home button

    Hi All,
I updated to iOS 5 and everything is great except where's my camera gone?  know I know everyone asks where the camera icon is on the lock screen and the answer is to double click the home button on the lock screen. Yes I did that but there is still no camera icon! Only my music controls come on....
Help please? Else I have no more camera functon for my phone and that is competely sad!
BTW I'm on 3gs...have restored, have reset, have done everything else!
    Thxs

You can already forget my first message, I finally found the solution :
You need to go in Genereal - Settings - Restrictions,
and authorize the camera (and others as well, like youtube which disappeared for me too)
Hope it works for you too !

  • I used to be able to double click the home button to choose to receive notifications via iPhone speaker instead of the Bluetooth. With ios7, that's gone as well as any obvious way to do it.  I don't wear my Bluetooth on my ear every minute of the day!!!!

I used to be able to choose to receive notifications via iPhone speaker in ios6 by double clicking the home button.  Ios7 took that away and I cannot see how to do it at all.  I don't have my Bluetooth in my ear constantly!!!

If you are getting Siri when you double tap, then your home button must be sticking. Siri comes up when you hold the home button. Try tapping quickly twice. When that happens, the multi-tasking list comes up and you will see the app icon and then a thumbnail, or reduced size view of the app above it. You put your finger on that thumbnail and swipe upwards with your finger.
For that issue, you might want to do a reset of the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. This will not affect your data.
To be honest, your novel is a little difficult to read, and I think you put too much information in there, and a lot of it is unnecessary. Be to the point and just add information necessary to understand the issue.

  • Double-clicking the home button causes my iPad 2 to crash

I am runing iOS 5.1  When I double-click the home button the interface crashes, and it takes me back to the "slide to unlock" screen, with the end result being that I cannot close any open applications.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  I have rebooted my iPad, and this does not make the issue go away.
iPad 2, 32GB, WiFi only running iOS 5.1.
    Cheers,
    Cole.
EDIT: So, for testing purposes, I turned on the multi-touch gestures and tried swiping up to bring up the task list.  As soon as I swipe up, it crashes as well, so the problem is not with the home button, but with the task list.
    Cole.

    Don't double-click it!
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Why can't I sleep my Ipod by double clicking the home button?

My sleep/wake button doesn;t work anymore, and I want to be able to sleep my Ipod by double clicking the home button. That would be much more useful than the 3 stupid choices I have now: "Home, Search, and iPod."
The home button already takes you home. So choice 1 is stupid. To search all you have to do is press home and swipe to the right; so choice 2 is also stupid. Choice 3 is ******** because I can just click "music."
Why can't double clicking home do something useful? Like making up for a poorly designed, chinese-made button that only lasts until just after your warrenty expires?

"Why can't double clicking home do something useful?"
"Useful" s subjective.  The options are helpful to many.
" Like making up for a poorly designed, chinese-made button that only lasts until just after your warrenty expires?"
My button has lasted for three years.  I know no one personally who has a broken powerbutton.
Perhaps it is simply that your ipod has an issue.  Maybe you are blowing this out of all proportion.

  • How do you close apps you hve looked at with the new software update?? You used to have to double click the home button and the apps would come up to delete bu that doesn't happen anymore.

The apps in the multitaskbar should appear like pages on the whole display. To close them, just swipe from the bottom to the top. you can select single apps for closing, when you swipe them like you would swipe your homescreens.

  • When I am on a phone call and I double click the button to go to my home screen, then open another application (usually my calendar program, Calengoo), my screen goes blank and I am not able to return to either the app, the phone, or the home screen.

When I am on a phone call and I double click the button to go to my home screen, then open another application (usually my calendar program, Calengoo), my screen goes blank and I am not able to return to either the app, the phone, or the home screen. If I am speaking to a person, if they hang up then I am back to the phone application. If I'm leaving a message, I am unable to return to the phone screen to end the call, and have to wait until the other phone hangs up. I'm also unable to switch back and forth to look at my calendar if I'm calling someone about scheduling. This has only started happening since the most recent iOs update. I run into situations similar to this about once per day during the work week, as I use my phone is this manner quite often. While not life altering it is quite frustrating. Can anyone here help me figure out a way to avoid this? If it helps, I have noticed a general downgrade in overall performance starting two system updates ago (apps opening more slowly, closing unexpectedly more often, etc.). I have an iPhone 3GS with the latest OS update.
Thank you for any help or suggestions,
    Chris

    I could be corrupted backup.
You can check the notification settings for message.
    Settings>Notification Center>Messages>Alert Style
It should be on Banners or Alerts.
Settings>Messages> Turn on Imessage and send as SMS and below that "Blocked" to check if you have any numbers block might be blocking the message.
You can also do a hard reset by holding power and home till it restarts and release after seeing the apple logo.
Still doesn't work? Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Where did the iPod shortcut button go when you double click the home button and scroll to the left?

After upgrading to iOS 4.3.2 I have noticed that when I double click the home button the multitasking tray pops up when you scroll to the left the ipod shortcut is no longer there, it has been replaced by a safari shortcut. Is this right??

    Reset
Have you tried rebooting the device? Hold down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. If this fails, connect it to a power source and try again holding them for at least 20 seconds.
    Reset Home Screen
    Reset All Settings
Reset all settings on Device. On your Device, open Settings, then navigate to “General” in the left-hand pane. Scroll down and tap Reset, then select “Reset All Settings.” This will delete any stored WiFi passwords and Appleid login information, but can result in a more stable function. On the final screen you will restore your backup or “Setup as new device” to keep current info intact.

  • When I double clicked the home button my screen changed to what looks almost like a picture negative (muted colouring) I turned it off and on but noo luck. How do I get back to my usual screen colours? Thanks for your help!).

First time using the Apple Support Community. Trying to reset my screen so colors don't look like what can only be described as a picture negative. I recall double clicking the home button when this happened before but as that didn't work  this time would be grateful for some help. Many thanks!

So when you triple tap the home button then it goes to negative colors, it is simple to go back. All you have to do is triple tab the home button again and it will go back if it doesnt then, go to Settings>General>Accessibility>And then switch off Invert Colors

  • Double Click the Home Button Crap

    iPhone4 w latest iOS:
Double clicking the button on the bottom of the iPhone gets me ANY of three different screens:
    Active Apps
    Keyboard
    Home
It's driving me kookoo. Is there a way to do a click and get running apps bar ONLY?
Or is there some other way to set up the Running apps bar alone in one maneuver?

You might want to read the manual; it can be very enlightening.
Press once: If it isn't on page 1 of the home screen it will go to the home screen. If it is already on page 1 of the home screen it will go to the Search screen (that's the one with the keyboard). If it's on the Search screen it will go to the Home screen.
Press twice quickly: It will always open the Quick Launch ribbon (those aren't running apps, they are apps that you have used recently).
That's the only things that happen. Pressing twice slowly while on the Home screen will go to the Search screen, then back to the Home screen. It's really just a combination of Press once, but repeated. Likewise, pressing twice slowly while not on Page 1 of the Home screen will go first to the Home screen, then to the Search screen.
