Swirly lines in Save for Web

Hi,
This is probably a basic thing, but when I use gradients in an image and then save for web and devices, I get swirly, kind of translucent lines if I save as jpeg or png.  If I save as gif, I get banding.  Is there a way to get rid of them?  I should be able to use gradients for a web image, right?
Thanks!

Hi shunithD,
Do you mean copying and pasting each layer into photoshop, then rasterizing each element or layer?  I could try that.
I'm wondering if my monitor is the reason the image looks bad to me.  I have af large lcd flat screen.  I'll check on my daughter's computer.  If it doesn't really show for other people, I'm ok with it as it is.  I just realized that the main parts that look swirly or blurry to me are the letters on the logo, and the checkered background.  Those don't have gradients, so maybe that isn't the cause.
Thanks!

  • Save for Web: line artifact at right edge

    I've searched the forums and the Web for this one, but I can't find any answer. I'm currently in CS5, but I believe this was happening in CS4 and maybe earlier.
    When in the Save for Web dialogue (it doesn't matter what format I'm saving to or if transparency is on), sometimes an artifact line of some sort appears on the right edge of the image as seen in the screenshot below (the image is just white & black and the gray is off the artboard). It's not just in the preview…it's in the saved file as well. It seems to occur when the edge of the artwork lies at a certain distance from the edge of the artboard and I'm changing the size of the exported image. The exact pattern of the artifact is not consistent, but it's always vertical along the right edge. Changing the image size and whether it's art or type optimized (or not at all) changes the artifacts.
    I can usually get around this by adjusting the edge of the artboard, and it sometimes goes away at a certain image size.
    Has anyone else seen this and know why it occurs (if it's not simply a bug we can't do anything about)? It happens to me very frequently.
    Thank you.

    I don't know what you can do about it once the art is drawn but in order o avoid this from happening if you are intending for the art to be used on the web is to turn on align to pixel grid.
    You can do this by creating a web document and leaving the defaults or if for soe reason you are using cmyk then you have to turn it on either in the new document window or from the Transform panel.
    You see save for the web means exactly that and if you art is not whole pixels well you see the problem theree is going to be extra space and if that includes rasterizing then that might end up being more than one pixel extra.
    Here the art is drawn with the Option turned on
    Here it is without the feature turned on it actually happens on the right and bottom.

  • [CS5][Save for Web][Anti-aliasing] Fine lines in exported PSD with adjustment layers

    Hello,
    You can reproduce the bug this way:
    - link a PSD with a adjustment (Levels, Brightness/Contrast) layer in your AI file
    - Save for Web, with AA for Art (not text) selected
    In the exported image there will be artefacts, white lines usually.
    Flattening the PSD or deleting the adjustment layers will solve the problem and anti-aliasing will be applied correctly.
    I used CMYK/RGB settings, FOGRA39/Adobe RGB 1998 for all the files involved.

    Hi,
    I am experiencing this same problem of pixelated gifs when I use the "save for web" dialog from Illustrator, but this solution has not worked for me. I have tried the trick of using type-optimized anti-aliasing, but it doesn't change the output at all. I've done this from within the "Image size" tab as well as through Effect>Rasterize>Options)Anti-aliasing: Type Optimized. My image is a logo made entirely from text, although for some of it I used "outline path", so I'm not sure if it still qualifies as text...I'm a newbie at this stuff, so the technical details are still quite opaque to me.
    Does anyone know of a solution to this that does not require me to add Photoshop to my workflow?
    I'm using Illustrator in CS5, version 15.0.2.
    Thanks in advance

  • Blurry smart objects in Photoshop Save for Web jpegs

    I create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputing Save for Web jpegs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint. The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. Anyone have any idea on the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background? At this point I am open to all suggestions.

    There are parts that are being added in Photoshop, hence going from Illustrator through Photoshop as a Smart Object and then onto PowerPoint. If I wasn't 5 months down the line and just nearing deadline, I would recreate everything in Illustrator. Assuming that I have to continue at this point down the Illustrator through Photoshop line of working, how do you designate pngs or jpegs to be 220ppi. Jpegs have a 1-12 quality (and 12 is still blurry).
    Note regarding PowerPoint, I embed the full-page image into the background so others that are using this can't move (by accident or on purpose) the background.

  • Filenames getting truncated in Save for Web AppleScript

    Hey all, running CS4 on an Apple Macbook Pro (using OS X 10.5.6). I am creating an AppleScript that saves out a number of files with different filenames using save for web. The problem is that Photoshop CS4 is truncating the filename, and using a shorter filename is not an option (there is identifying info in the filename that I need to retain). Is there a way within the script I can set it to allow longer filenames? My current save for the web script line looks as follows:
    export current document in file filename as save for web with options {quality:60, web format:JPEG}
    What happens is that a filename like this:
    CANON-PRO8000MKII-ideal-ideal-24.jpg
    gets cut down to this:
    CANON-PRO8000MKII-ideal-ideal#0
    I believe that there there is a PShop bug here that has a hard-coded limit on the filename, but which does not happen if you enter  the file name manually: if I go into the save for web dialog and enter the full filename, it works fine.  Any ideas?

    I recall having this problem too, my solution was to truncate the file name in the script prior to the save, then rename the saved file.
    e.g.
    if length of theNewFileName > 31 then
    set theTempFileName to theNewFileName
    set theNewFileName to (text 1 through (31 - (length of theFileExtension) - 1) of theNewFileName & "." & theFileExtension) as string
    end if
    set theNewFile to (saveToFolder & theNewFileName) as string
    -- Save the file here
    if theTempFileName = "" then
    -- File name wasn't truncated
    else
    -- Rename truncated file
    tell application "Finder"
    try
    set name of (theNewFile as alias) to theTempFileName
    on error errMsg number ERRNUM
    display dialog "Error renaming file - " & errMsg
    end try
    end tell
    end if

  • Rendering glitch in Save For Web?

    Hello,
    When I "save for web" with some particular files, I get a rendering glitch in the image that takes the form of small, colorless horizontal lines.
    Example 1
    Example 2
    Where do these come from? What can I do about it?

    I have this exact issue.
    Happens in "Save for web" and in  "export". I managed to keep CS4 still installed and took the exact same  file and "exported" it and "saved for web", and no issue at all in CS4.  This is def. an issue that has popped back up in CS5 then.
    On my  attached image there is no gradients or special effects, just clipping  masks.
    I've tried the new options they have in save for web, "Art  Optimized" and "Type Optimized". The issue does not happen in "Type  Optimized" but the quality in type optimized is lower and it renders the  exact same as the vector file appears(so colors bleeding out a pixel  behind some objects etc.) The issue does happen in "art optimized".
    Issues  happens when saving in png and jpg format, with or without  transparency.
    I've  attached an example, notice the lines in her face. (same as initial  attached image)
    So is this a "wait for an update" sort of scenario? or is  this a "use a different program to save for web" scenario?

  • Matte in Save for Web matte is adding a border

    I have an image that has a transparent background and a thick black border across the top.
    When I go to Save for Web and select a white matte, it adds a ~1px white border to the top of the image.  Why is it doing that and how can I get it to stop (other than adding white layers for the background).?
    And where is 4-up?
    It would be really nice if Adobe would list features they delete when listing "What's New".

    I tried nudging the straight black border up a pixel, but that didn't work.
    And I'm not using "clip to artboard" so the placement on the artboard is irrelevant.
    I know what mattes are for, I have jagged lines and text within the image.  I prefer not to add a white object to the back of every graph, and I'd prefer not to have 20 artboards on this one page.
    I never saw a matte add pixels to straight lines before and never outside the boundaries of the image.  Surely that is not what Adobe intended.

  • Halo in "save for web"

    Hi,
    When I use "save for web" in Illustrator CS2, I get a halo effect on the left and bottom of the image. If I use "select eyedropper color" this thin line on left and bottom becomes that color. If I use "none" it is white.
    I have tried clipping to artboard and have exhausted ideas.
    This happens when I save jpegs. If I view the image in a browser from clicking the browser button in the lower right corner of "save for web" this thin rule left and bottom does not appear. But When I drop the save image in a webpage, there it it.
    I do not have this problem in Photoshop. I think they are both driven by Image Ready?
    Thanks for any help, it is much appreciated.
    Kevin

    That's never been saved as part of the S4W presets. Bloody annoying.

  • Save for Web or Save As Jpg for website

    Saving photographs for my website. Files are big, 1140 pxls high (width varies with cropping/landscape or portrait). Because of the large size of the photographs on screen, I need a good quality file - minimal artifacting.
    Is Save for Web (Tiff or PSD to Jpg) going to give me a smaller file size than Save As Jpg at a similar quality (compression) setting?
    Website is Flash, so I'll strip the metadata, but in situations where I want to keep metadata embedded (ie on blogs), is Save for Web still going to give me a smaller but still high quality file?
    Can anyone explain what Save for Web does differently to Save As - when dealing with Tiff/PSD to JPG?
    Thanks!
    Mac, CS5.5

    I'm not discounting the ability to inspect images in greater detail. I'm just noting that it is inefficient as a designer/publisher to push more data than what the average user needs. That is not how the internet works now or in the future.  You did not download the entire Adobe forums for offline reading. You open only the forum pages/discussions that interest you. We invite data to us. We don't have it slammed at us. I would not doubt that your pinch zoom example could be addressed with a javascript event to load a higher resolution graphic between the moment the image is first touched and the point when you zoom.
    There is no such thing as unlimited storage and bandwidth. Check your hosting plan for the fine print. BizLand/Endurance hosting will most certainly yank your site offline if it starts to take an unreasonable share of system resources from other sites shared on the same server.  I've seen this happen often, especially with Endurance hosting. I'll never use them again.
    You may be able to get away with bloated graphics on your own site, which ranks 2,310,866 on alexa.com. But a site like adobe.com (ranking at 65) is going to be much more concerned about image sizes. If you host an image at 300kb that could have been 100kb, you waste 2MB among the handful of people that visit your site in a day. At Adobe's scale, they will have wasted multiple gigabytes of bandwidth.
    Bear in mind that you are limited to a certain number of concurrent HTTP connections. This has not changed with the advent of faster networks. While a connection is held up to load a larger graphic, another HTML, JS, CSS or image file has to wait in line to load. Peek into the source graphics used in this page. Jive makes heavy use of css sprites to lessen the dependence on multiple connections.
    You will never get away from designing for economy. That is why we use JPG images instead of BMP images.

  • Using "Save for Web & Devices" for a Organization Chart with Text

    I created a document in CS3 Illustrator that is an Organization Chart. It contains rectangles, lines, and text. It looks great in Illustrator.
    I have tried to save it using "Save for Web & Devices" to create a JPEG and a GIF so that I can pop it into a Dreamweaver document as an image and it keeps coming out blurry.
    I have tried changing its size and resolution. I have tried opening and exporting it into Photoshop to try to "clean" it up. Nothing seems to be working.
    I'm obviously unlettered in this modus operandi!
    meem

    Thanks for the response.
    The background is transparent and will end up on a white background eventually.
    I tried to make it clear in Dreamweaver by scaling it and it did seem to improve it somewhat. But it still doesn't look like the clear copy in Illustrator that I started with...
    I also need to be able to embed this in a Word document to print for a hardcopy manual.
    I had this same problem with Freehand a few years ago.

  • Using QuickTime Player's 'Save for Web' feature in iWeb

    I'm using iWeb (3.0.3) to create a site. I've also used the QuickTime Player (10) feature "Save for Web" command to save optimized versions (for iPhone and desktop) of a clip I'm using in my site. I want to keep the nice features of the QT Save for Web, i.e., the poster frame and the nicer QT controller.
    I've managed to get everything hooked up right (using an HTML snippet in iWeb and hand-editing the page's html file to add the lines to <head> that the Save for Web's instructions specify. Yay!
    All good so far. When I view the page in Safari, the poster frame shows up perfectly. But when I click on it, Safari swaps in a new page (frameset?), which loses all the navigational stuff I have on the "real" page. The Save for Web's instruction html page doesn't do this -- why is it happening in the iWeb page? I've tried stripping stuff out of the iWeb-generated page, but no luck.
    Please help ... I've spent HOURS trying to figure this out, and I'm at my wit's end!!
    (Additionally, if someone can tell me where I can put the 4 files that the Save for Web command creates so that iWeb doesn't wipe them everytime I publish, I would be a very happy man!!

    This demo page has instructions on how to use that feature: #18 - Adding Movie/Video File to iWeb Page via Export for Web in Quicktime Player.
    This demo page has an example of how it looks: Using a Movie Exported Out of Quicktime Player via “Export for Web”

  • File name truncation warning on Save for Web (For Macintosh browsers?) (CS2)

    Image (Line drawing). Save for Web (*gif). Receive following warning:
    "Some names of the files being saved will be truncated to 31 characters for compatibility with Macintosh browsers. To change your filename compatibility options, click the Optimize pop-up menu, choose Output Settings, and select Saving Files."
    I could not find the Optimize pop-up menu. Therefore, I did not do this step.
    After save, I simply went to the appropriate folder and changed the file name to what I originally wanted (i.e., essentially correcting the truncation).
    Big deal or not? Will all be OK?
    Thanks in advance. From a novice.

    Wilmot Company, Inc.

    You can probably safely turn off that Macintosh compatibility setting now.
    It's a bit tricky to find those settings...  Here's how.
    First, in the Save For Web dialog, hit the little icon at the upper-right and choose Edit Output Settings.
    Then change the selector to Saving Files and look for the settings you want to change as shown here:
    I captured the above from PS CS6, but I think they're substantially the same.

  • PS CS6 action save for web error

    In Photoshop CS6 actions when we save the image as JPEG through save for web it doesn't work when we run it, instead it runs and saves the image as HTML, i guess some error in it. I tried it again and again but it doesn't remember my save for web settings and saves the images as HTML.

    It a new bug in CS6 though when you recorded the action you saved jpeg images to you desktop and you only entered file names onto the save for web action steps the action recorder recorded name.html.  I replaced you save for web steps on my machine for my desktop and CS6 recorded  name.html.  I then did the same with CS5 though I only entered names CS5 recorded name.jpg.
    If you expand the export steps tou will see the hard coded file names and extention
    An action like this will always save the same files it can not be batch because you recorded Path and Names in the save for web steps.  The .html files saved on with CS6 are actually jpeg files and if you rename them hrom name.html to name.jpg you can use them,

  • Save for Web Export

    I am trying to use the save for web export option to save out a file of type JPEG.
    I have gotten the code working fine if it saved out with the default file type of .gif, but I cannot get it to work with .jpg.
    set theExportOptions to {class:save for web export options, interlaced:true, quality:30}
    tell current document
    export in (theLocation as text) as save for web with options theExportOptions
    end tell
    These are the pertinent lines from my code, so if anybody can tell me how to save the file as type JPEG so that it is a scripted version of Photoshop's save for web feature, that would great.
    I am also using Photoshop CS2 v9.02 if that helps.

    You would have to code that seperate eg:
    FitImage(1000,500);
    function FitImage( inWidth, inHeight ) {
       if ( inWidth == undefined || inHeight == undefined ) {
          alert( "FitImage requires both Width & Height!");
          return 100;
       var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
       var unitPixels = charIDToTypeID( '#Pxl' );
       desc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( 'Wdth' ), unitPixels, inWidth );
       desc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( 'Hght' ), unitPixels, inHeight );
       var runtimeEventID = stringIDToTypeID( "3caa3434-cb67-11d1-bc43-0060b0a13dc4" );
       executeAction( runtimeEventID, desc, DialogModes.NO );

  • Photoshop CS6 Save For Web UI extra border Bug

    Last week we finally got upgraded to CS6, and I'm dissapointed to see the visual defect I reported in CS5.5 still exists in Photoshop CS6 Save for Web. The details and screenshots are all the same as in my previous thread. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3843054#3843054
    Isn't there a way to fix this?  I rely on PhotoShop to be pixel perfect, not to add extra distracting lines and borders to my work.

    FYI, just to test I just did a crop of an image, then screen grabbed the result.
    To ensure the edge is visible, I changed the workspace background from the dark gray I usually use to a lighter gray...  Here's the pertinent part of the workspace...
    A closeup of the upper-right corner:
    Notably, I don't see any black line around it like you showed.  This leads me to wonder whether I interpreted your screen grab properly...
