Switch 3GS phone to new user and keep contacts

My wife got my brother's old iPhone 3GS from him when he upgraded to the iPhone 4 over a year ago. The person at AT&T transferred my wife's contacts from her old phone to the 3GS phone. She can't buy any apps without using my brother's ID so she hasn't purchased anything yet.
She wants to clear the phone but still keep all of her contacts. I was wondering what steps she would need to follow to do it.
We did go to the Apple store but didnt our laptop with us to try and work through it there and the directions that we got were a bit confusing after we got home.
Any help would be welcomed?
Also, would it be beneficial to upgrade the iOS to the latest version as well since the phone is currently running v3.1.3?

Before I begin, does she have her own ID? If she does, then continue reading. If not, go to http://appleid.apple.com and make one for her.
Yes, upgrading to iOS 5 would be very beneficial. Have her upgrade to iOS 5, and then set up "iCloud." This will allow her to back up her contacts to the cloud. Then, she can wipe the phone, and once she re-enables iCloud after the restore, "Contacts" should be on and then appear on her phone.

I want to put music onto my iphone (the music is on my laptop, and on itunes).
When I connect my iphone to my laptop it asks me to set it up as a new iPhone.
I cannot risk losing any of my data on the phone (eg. contacts, messages, notes, apps, etc).
The phone is connected to my icloud account, and everything is checked to be saved on icloud.
On the computer there is no option to restore from the icloud account.
Do I restore from the icloud account via my phone (and then will it sync the music onto my phone via computer?)? Or set it up as a new iphone via my laptop?
The end result I need to have is for the phone to remain the same (apps, information, contacts, etc.), except with my music (that is on my laptop) playable in the music app.

This is assuming all the music on your iPhone is from iTunes, if not, get iTunes Match.
When your phone is connected to the computer, right click the icon of your phone under "devices" and choose "transfer purchases"
This should pull everything you have from the app store/iTunes store on your computer
Transfer pictures over manually using image capture, iPhoto, or from your autoplay option on a windows computer
Once everything on your computer matches your phone, you can go ahead and sync
Whenever you sync from the computer, remember that "syncing" pretty much means your phone will mimic the computer
iCloud will back up your text messages too. Don't worry. If you want to go the iCloud route, your music on your computer would either need to be iTunes purchases or you need to be using iTunes match.
To restore from an iCloud back up, you'd have to erase your phone by going to settings>general>reset>erase all content and settings and choose "restore from iCloud back up" when the phone prompts you. Note: this will restore your phone to factory and kick it into the set up assistant, so triple confirm that iCloud user in
I'd recommend the easy route and just getting your computer's music coded over to iTunes purchases (with iTunes match) if it isn't already. That way, you can just download it on your phone through the iTunes app.

Try going into your account details on iTunes, change your info there, then sync your devices.

I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.

Might even be a good idea to turn off the phone, reseat the SIM card, and turn it back on.

Get a copy of the entire iTunes library and copy it to the computer that you will be using from now on.
iTunes Plus songs will still be playable, as will any "normal" MP3s that were purchased from Amazon or ripped from CD.
Any "protected" content from the iTunes Store, such as movies, shows, or pre-2009 songs, will not be playable. If you need to replace any such items with playable copies, a cost will be incurred. Make sure to account for this in the property settlement.

I have tried all of the sounds in Prem cs6 but didn't work. My question is, do I need to get a separate sound software download and install to be able to use it?

In the CS versions, there was some audio capability in PrPro but you needed to get a separate audio program for major work. Lessening a baby definitely qualifies as major work. That's lessening, i dont mean eliminating. Adobe's audio program is Audition. There are others "out there'. In the CC versions one just downloads Audution also.

I have an Ipod Nano 6th Gen. I have been getting the error 13019. It puts the song title into my playlist, but the song isn't there when I disconnect, and find the song. Everything is up to date. I have tried to create a new user, and nothing works.

Your nano would really have nothing to do with it at that point. It is really something between iTunes and whatever server out there on the internet that it is trying to connect to for the update.
Try posting this one in the iTunes forum, they might have a solution for you.

I am trying to install INN, the news server on OS X.4.8 (non-server), but it requires me to create a user and group, both called 'news'.
I know this has something to do with using Netinfo to create them, but I am logged in remotely via ssh and I can't use Netinfo Manager.
How do I create new users and groups via the command line.

I had installed oracle 11g DB and oracle client in my windows OS. I found in the 11g there is no enterprise manager console with new version. It is different from with oracle 10g.So i don't know how to create it new user.

I am not sure that which option you are talking about? Are you using the EMCA,http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28319/emca.htm#SUTIL800] to create the new repository for the EM? If not the command line than the other only way is to use DBCA(Database Configuration Assistant).I believe you are talking about that. Yes ,if the message is coming creating the repository than after wards you can login to the EM. You would get the port no of the EM's HTTP port from the $OH/install/portlist.ini file.

What version of the Mac OS X do you have on your computer? The version of iTunes that you can install is dependent on the operating system that you have. For example, the current version of iTunes requires OS X version 10.7.5 or later.
