Switch apple id to previously used email address

I am trying to switch my apple id from my school email address to my gmail address because I am graduating soon. However, when I try to switch it to my gmail, it says that I have already used the gmail as my apple id before, but I don't think I have. Is there anyway to remedy this or to use an email that apple thinks it has already seen before (even though I don't think it has)? Thank you!

If you are looking to be able to setup a new Apple ID that uses an iCloud email vs an outside email, here is how you do it (I just did it tonight)
On your iMac, click the Apple icon in the upper left of the desktop, and choose System Preferences.
Under the Internet and Wireless section, select Mail, Contacts, and Calendars
Click the + sign at the bottom of the list on the left and select iCloud.
In the pop up, select "Create Apple ID...." in the lower left
Enter your country and birthday
In the next form you will notice a choice at the top that says to "use an existing email" or "get a free iCloud email address."  It will then give you a place to create the part that will go before the @icloud.com.
Fill out the rest of the form and you have a brand new Apple ID based on your iCloud email address.
I have not tried to use it in the iTunes, but should just be a matter of signing into iTunes and setting up the credit card and such.
Hopefully that will help you if you have not gone too far with your purchaseds on her new Apple ID

  • How do I delete previously used email addresses?

I used an email once and now I can't get rid of it...  When I am composing a message and type the beginning of an address it comes up and it is not in my contacts.  How do I clear the email cache? Have not been able to find a way to get rid of it.

Apple’s Mail program stashes away a list of previously used addresses to help speed up your e-mail chores, but it saves these addresses whether they are correct or not. Fortunately, it’s possible to open up the list and weed out all the unwanted, outdated or incorrect addresses at one sitting.
To do so, open the Mail program, go to the Window menu and choose Previous Recipients. The Previous Recipients window opens with a sortable list of the names and e-mail addresses of people you have corresponded with in the past, as well as the date of when the address was last used. Click the Name, E-mail or Last Used bar at the top of the column to sort the list on your preferred criteria.
To remove someone from the Previous Recipients list so that Mail won’t try to auto-complete the address, click on the entry to select it and then click the Remove From List button in the bottom left corner of the window. You can select multiple entries at once by holding down the Mac’s Command key to highlight several addresses as you go. Click the Remove From List button to zap all the selected addresses at once.
If you find a contact that you’d like to officially add to the Mac’s Address Book program, select it and click the Add to Address Book button in the bottom right corner of the window.

  • How to remove previously used email addresses from iphone?

After having his email account hacked, a friend gave me his new email address.
I have updated his contact information, BUT
everytime I write an email, or a text or a message, the old email address keeps coming up
as the first choice of my iPhone and iPad.
How do I remove the previous email address from my iPhone or iPad?
    Regards

The ONLY way, currently, to remove this data from an iOS device is to restore the device as "new" in iTunes, NOT from backup. This will, of course, erase all data on the device, including this contact data. You either do that, or you live with it.

  • I have an "old" Apple ID set up 13 years ago.  Apple has now gone to using email address as the apple ID.  I have apps to update and they ask for old ID.  it does not exist.  How can I get the ID on the app changed to the new apple ID

I set up an apple id many years ago when itunes was established.  Within the past year or so, Apple has changed to using email address as user id.  My problem is that I have many applications that I can not update due to the fact that it is asking for the password of the old ID.  It does not exist anymore.  Any ideas on how to get the new apple id associated with the application without deleting the application.  Several of these apps I purchased.

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

  • IPod Touch recently used email addresses

I was wondering if there was a way to clear out previously used email addresses that show up when I am using the Mail application on my iPod Touch without reformatting and starting fresh? I have tried removing the email account from the iPod Touch and adding it again. Thanks!

I think reseting it may work ... i had the same problem, when i miss typed an email address and it just kept poping up

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

It may be that the process you used to change the iCloud ID created these issues.  What I would suggest you do is the following:
If you have any photo stream photos on your device that you want to keep, save them to your camera roll by opening your photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.
Go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into your iCloud account and check to confirm that your data is all there.
Assuming your data is on icloud.com, go to Settings>iCloud on your device, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted.  This will only delete the account and your synced data from your device but not from iCloud.  Your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.
Go to Settings>iCloud, sign back in with the correct iCloud ID and password and turn your iCloud data syncing preferences back on.  This will sync your iCoud data back to your device and recreate your iCloud email account.
Try your Mail again and see if it works properly now.

  • This morning I changed my Apple ID to my new email address.  I thought it meant that I could then use all my alias icloud email addresses with my new Apple ID because it would be the same account.  Why am I now not getting email to those addresses.

This morning I changed my Apple ID to my new email address.  I thought it meant that I could continue to use all my alias icloud email addresses with my new Apple ID because it would be the same account.  Since then I have not received and new emails to my iCloud email addresses.  Normally I get at least  7 new emails a day, so I'm pretty sure my iCloud addresses are not working.  It would be a lot of work for me to notify a lot of people, companies, and organizations about new email addresses, so I really would like to make them work.  Will it be possible to make them work with my new Apple ID?

Roger, I didn't know that "Delete Account" was synonymous with "log out".  Yes, I had deleted my iCloud account in my iPad email settings more than once yesterday and again one more time after I read your reply.  I then followed the instructions below to log off on my Windows PC.  I found these when I searched for how to log off of iCould:
    1- Go to www.iCloud.com
2- Sign in with your current login info
3- Click on your user name on top right corner
    4- Select account setting
    5- Select "Advanced."
6- Click 2nd option, "Sign Out Of All Browsers."
I also scanned settings for all the other apps on my iPad and changed a couple that still had my old sbcglobal email address. Later, I noticed that I was able to see my old previous iCloud emails in iCloud.com, and the couple of messages that I received from this Support Community site, but still no new emails.  Suddenly the emails started rolling in again this morning.  I have 7 new ones at the moment.  I sort of expected to get a backlog of emails from yesterday, but something tells me those were all lost as "undeliverable".  I don't know who or exactly what did the trick, but the issue seems to be fixed.  I'm using my new Apple ID, and I'm glad I don't have to get all new iCloud alias email addresses after all.

  • I can't remove previous owners email address from App Store so can't use - advice please!!

I can't remove previous owners email address from App Store so can't use - advice please!!

Settings/iTunes & App Stores. Tap the Apple ID. Tap Sign out. Then sign in with your Apple ID. However, if the phone still has Find my iPhone enabled with the previous owner's Apple ID then the phone will be useless to you until you get the previous owner to release Activation Lock on the phone.

  • This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID.

My current Apple ID, for which all of my content has been downoaded (e.g., music, apps) is associated with a work email address that I will no longer have access to in the near future.  In my Apple ID account, I noticed I had two alternate emails listed, one is my .me account and the other is my .gmail account.  I use my .gmail account, and it is the primary email I use with friends and family.  I noticed both were not verified, and when I tried to, it said they were both associated with other accounts.  I was able to log into a separate Apple ID account I must have set up at tone point with my .gmail, and I changed the email address to a new one I created.  I also deleted the gmail account from any other Apple-relted account I could think of.  I am still gettgin the same error message when I try to add it to my current Apple ID: "This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID."
My concern is this: with FaceTime and now iMessage, it seems more important than ever that I am able to use my correct email address.  With iOS5 beta, I cannot enter either my .gmail or.me accounts under "You can be reached for messages at:" as I get an error stating: Unable to verify email because it is already in use."
How can I remedy this issue and assign my .gmail account to my Apple ID?

I just spoke with a technician at Apple.  I hsven't been able to verify because the wife has the phone.  but he said all that you need to do is:
    1) Go to Settings --> iTunes Store and login with your Apple ID and pwd
    2) Go to Settings --> iCloud and login with your Apple ID and pwd
seems that the phone requires you to login to the store first...

I'm continually getting a pop-up message on my iPhone asking me to enter my Apple ID password for a email address I no longer use.  How do I make it stop?

If you are signed into your current iCloud ID you shouldn't be prompted for the old ID unless there is another service still signed into it.  Check the ID in iMessage (Settings>Messages>Send & Receive), FaceTime (Settings>FaceTime), Game Center (Settings>Game Center), the iTunes store (Settings>iTunes & App Store), etc. to make sure you aren't still signed in with the old ID.  If you are, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.

  • I created my Apple ID in Ireland, but would now like to switch to a German Apple ID, keeping the same email address. How do I delete my old Irish Apple ID, so I can create a new German one with the same email?

I created my Apple ID in Ireland, but would now like to switch to a German Apple ID, keeping the same email address. How do I delete my old Irish Apple ID, so I can create a new German one with the same email?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Click on your account name in the top right corner of the iTunes store in the iTunes application on your computer, enter your password and click the "view account" button. Navigate to the Apple ID summary where you have the option to "change country or region".
In order to change your location, you will need a credit card registered to an address in the location you are trying to change to.
You cannot change your location if you have credit on your account, if you are unable to spend your credit and leave a balance of zero, contact Apple, which you can do through iTunes Store Support.

  • Why can I not verify my Apple ID? I keep getting this message after trying: "the email address is alread in use or you may already have an apple id associated with this email address. please try again or sign in using your existing apple id"

the email address is alread in use or you may already have an apple id associated with this email address. please try again or sign in using your existing apple id............ PLEASE HELP ME

    Hi all,
I tried this and it worked:
    1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.
    2) Click the Manage your account link on the right sideof the page.
    3) Enter the account name (Apple ID) and the password you used when creating the account.
    4) Change the email address associated with your account.
    5) Send new verification email
I also got this from apple CS for other things to try:
Please follow these steps to access your Apple ID accountinformation:
    1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.
    2) Click the Manage your account link on the right sideof the page.
    3) Enter the account name (Apple ID) and the password youused when creating the account.
    4) Delete any duplicate email addresses associated withyour account.
    5) Click the Save Changes button.
If you do not have duplicate email addresses on your account, it is possible that your email address is already being used withanother Apple ID. In order to verify your email address with the current AppleID, it will need to be disassociated from your other Apple ID. You can do thatby following these steps:
    1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.
    2) Log in with your other Apple ID and password.
    3) Select the Manage your account link.
    4) Choose Name, ID, and Email Address from the left sideof the page.
    5) Next to Primary Email Address, select Edit so that youcan change the email address associated with this Apple ID.
    6) Once you've made the desired change, select SaveChanges.
    7) Choose Sign Out from the top right of the page.
If you would like to have the verification email resentto you, please sign into https://appleid.apple.com/with the Apple ID you want to verify, and make sure there is not a typo in yourPrimary Email Address. Select the "Edit" link to the right of your email address to make corrections and then click the "Save Changes" button.Once the typo is fixed, or if there is no typo, click the "Resend"link under your email address.
If you still do not receive the verification email, please reply to this email with the email address that you intend to use onyour Apple ID.
    Good luck!
    Em
