Switch between base stations - wireless controller

Hi, I have a multiroom audio setup made with airport base stations.
I'd like to choose where to listen my music without using a computer.
Is there a controller that allows me to choose which base station I want to play music?
I've posted this issue in salling clicker's forum, but they say that choosing a base station is not scriptable.

choosing itunes/airport express output
thanks

Yes, it does depend on the one you use - and hopefully mino (the original poster to this discussion) is aware of that as well. A Bluetooth-only Palm device would not be of much practical use in this case. WiFi interfaces are available for many Palm models - and that would be the preferred connection method. WiFi's range is far greater than Bluetooth, and would be essential if you wanted access to a Mac located several rooms away from where the Palm device was being used.

  • NetworkManager - switching between wired and wireless

    Hello!
I’ve set up a new laptop with Arch and now have a question concerning NetworkManager. Is it possible in NM to switch between wired and wireless connections like it is with Connman (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … d_wireless)?
So far it appears that NM only disables the wired connection when wireless is used but keeps the wireless alive when switching to wired.
I have already looked for a corresponding configuration but couldn’t find anything that helps.
    Thanks in advance.

    Easy Mode:
You can install the tlp-rdw package and edit the /etc/default/tlp configuration file which has an option that does that.
    Hard Mode:
If you don't want to install a package and its dependencies, you can write your own script and put it in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d and have the NetworkManager dispatcher hook run the script (which is actually what tlp-rdw does but you don't have to install the tlp package as a dependency)
Note: tlp is a power manager and if you have any other power managers installed it might conflict with them so be wary of that.
Here is the wiki page on tlp https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tlp

  • Airport Extreme Base Station Wireless Woes

    Hi,
I just bought this dual band Airport Extreme Base Station on 3/10/2010. After I setup the Airport, I have difficulties connecting my iphone 3GS to the base station. My iphone 3GS is able to see the wireless network but not able to join it. Only my macbook pro is able to connect wirelessly. My windows PC and iphone 3GS could not.
I wonder whats could be the problem?
Some logs from the base station:
    Oct 06 23:00:04 Severity:5 Associated with station <mac address of iphone 3GS>
Oct 06 23:00:04 Severity:5 Installed unicast CCMP key for supplicant <mac address of iphone 3GS>
    Oct 06 23:00:04 Severity:5 Disassociated with station <mac address of iphone 3GS>
Oct 06 23:00:04 Severity:5 Rotated TKIP group key.
Setting of Airport Extreme Base Station:
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2
    Wireless Channel: Auto
    Creating a new network
    Things I have tried:
    1) Changing the wireless channel
    2) Removing the wireless security
    Thanks

I think I manage to find the problem on why my airport extreme keep on dropping connection.
    This is my connection.
Cable Modem -> Airport Extreme -> Aztech Gigabit Homeplug 1-> Aztech Gigabit Homeplug 2 -> Dlink DIR-825.
When I plug out the conenction from Airport Extreme to Aztech Gigabit Homeplug 1, I am able to connect to the wireless using iPhone 3GS. Once I plug back the connection and do a refresh the iPhone 3GS wifi connection, I am not able to connect the wireless.
Hmm, anyone faces the same problem?

  • Airport Extreme Base Station - Wireless AND Hardwired connections

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station. I am under the impression that I can connect a hardwire via ethernet to my iMac, as well as use my wireless connections on my iBook. I am connected to the internet via my local Comcast Cable system on a SurfBoard SB4100 modem. I have one Ethernet port on the back of the Base Station connected to a Farallon iPrint Adapter for my antiquated (yet far more reliable than ANY injet I've owned) laser toner printer. I have a McAlly 5-port ethernet hub. I have a variety of ethernet cables, some with 8 wire connections, some with 4 wire connections. (Currently a 4-wire cable connects from the base station to the iPrint adapter) My total system has been dismantled for some time and I have been sailing through with the wireless connection on my iBook. But now I have a need to have both computers attached to the internet. I would rather have the hardwire connection and the wireless at the same time - if possible. The iMac is still on system 9 (stop laughing!) and I cannot afford to upgrade to 10 at this time.
    Can anyone help me?

I am under the impression that I can connect a hardwire via ethernet to my iMac, as well as use my wireless connections on my iBook.
    Yes that is possible.
Insert the Ethernet hub between the Farallon iPrint Adapter and AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

  • How do I see what (cabled) link speed I have between base stations?

    Hi
I do own one new Airport Extreme base station and one older Airport Extreme (flat one).
Both are capable of 1 Gbit-speed via ethernet cable. I have the new base station as "master" and the old as extender (via cable). How can I ensure that the speed between them are using Gbit and not 100 Mbit?
"use cable xxxx" is not an answer I will settle with, I want to se the numbers somehow, via Airport Utility or 3rd party.
    Is this possible?
Very thankful for any help I might get.
    /Erik

There is no info in the airport utility and there is no third party to get you in either..
There is no easy way.. but a gigabit switch plugged in between the two devices would instantly show you the connection speed if it has LED indicators that show gigabit.
Gigabit switches are not that much money to payout now. Particulary if you have some place you might use one.
Otherwise simply do a throughput test.. plug a computer into the main unit by ethernet and plug another computer into the other end.. if you get a file copy speed say 15MB/s you have gigabit. You cannot pass files at greater than about 12MB/s on 100mbit.

  • IMac does not see Airport Extreme Base Station wirelessly

Trying to use my existing PC hooked up to Airport Extreme BS via ethernet cable, which works fine. I then open Airport Utility on my iMac and it scans for wireless devices but it can't see the AEBS (located beside it). Opening Base Station tab and there are no solid headers to click on, just the soft grey headers. I am fairly new to Apple product so if I've left any info out to further troubleshoot please let me know.
Eventually I would like to connect my Apple TV, located downstairs, wirelessly as well as use an Airport Express (wirelessly) to boost the signal if need be due to concrete walls and floors in construction of house.
I have OS X Version 10.5.8 (up to date), Intel, Airport Extreme Wireless Card.
Thanks for any help out there.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Airport radio mode different between base station and extender

So this has basically stumped me and i decided to ask the community.  I have a Time capsule1st gen that i use as my main base station. I set the radio mode to 802"11 N 2.4ghz only. On my airport extreme 1st gen, i set it to extend the network.  However when i check the radio mode on the airport extreme  its 802.11 n b/g compatible.  Id really rather have the entire network be N only but not 5 ghz as I still have devices that don't support the 5 ghz signal (ps4)

However when i check the radio mode on the airport extreme  its 802.11 n b/g compatible
Apple gives you only one option...theirs....when you extend a network using wireless.
If you can connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, you will regain the 50% speed loss that was imposed by the wireless connection between devices....and....you will be able to set the AirPort Extreme to use 802.11n 2.4 GHz Only as well.

  • How do you set up a new APTC wireless network to seamlessly replace an older APExt Base Station wireless network

I have an older Airport Extreme Base Station and it currently generates our existing wireless network.  I am interested in setting up a new 2TB Time Capsule. It seems as though the new TC would replace the older AP Ext Base Station in generating a new, higher performing wireless network, with the old AP Ext Base Station repurposed as a network extender out into the backyard where the current Wi Fi signal is weak.
Naturally, we have a lot of devices now using the existing wireless network.  Is it possible to set up the new wireless network with the new TC using the same name, password etc, as the existing wireless network, so we are not required to deal with all the devices, not to mention the group of visitors who connect when they are here. If so, how do I step through the process?  Can the older AP Ext base Station then be used to extend the new, same-named network?  Thank you for your help.

However, the Alert message I'm getting says that the content of the Time Capsules can't be modified. This is where  I run into trouble.
Click on the Time Capsule icon to reveal a folder representing the drive. Double click the folder to mount the drive on the desktop.
The first time that you do this, you may see a "Not Connected" message. Click on "Connect As" and enter the device password for the Time Capsule.
Then drag/drop files onto the drive icon on the desktop, or to the open window there.

  • Switching my Base station to a windows machine

Hello everyone. currently I have DSL and am using my base station with my iMac and Powerbook for wireless connectivity.
I am moving and not keeping my DSL since the new house will have it already.
The person who has the DSL is on a PC using a DSL Modem supplied to them.
My question is this: Can I just plug his modem into the base station and do a airport set up using his username/pass for his account and I will be able to be wireless?
I am not sure if the base station is PC/Mac Compatible.
    Thanks!

    Thank you for your reply.
I have plugged his modem into my AEBS and I am up and running (I have let MY settings on the AEBS) His PC does not see the connection. His DSL Modem is all lit up and seeing the connection (obviously since my airport works)
He restarted his computer and still nothing. By the way, he is on windows xp. service pack 2.
Any window people out there know what to do? I don't want to change settings on his PC too much, since PC's are finicky and I don't do windows.
    Thanks for anyones help.

  • Airport Extreme Base station wireless setup problem with Zyxel 2602HW d1a

    Hi!
Just bought a new Airport Extreme Base Station and it just doesn't work. Probably my fault, your help is very welcome!
My router Zyxel 2602HW D1A is the main router/modem. I can only connect to it wirelessly with my AEBS (so not via Ethernet/WAN). But, it doesn't seem to connect to this Zyxel in the wireless way. After I setup the AEBS to connect with this network I have to reset it to factory settings. Is it possible to connect only via wifi? Is it possible to this Zyxel? How can I setup the Zyxel to have everything ok to be ready for communication?
Firmware is up to date btw.
    Thanks!
    Bjorn

    Hi Tesserax,
Thanks for replying. I would like to share USB attached printers and hard drives just with my 'own network' attached to the AEBSn. The other network I use just for the internet connection. Preferably the other network can't access my AEBSn network.
Am I clear? I am not sure

  • How do I create an imac base station wireless network with Airport?

I just got the Macbook Pro and have a G4 imac with an airport card installed. I'm trying to create a network using my imac as the base station - any suggestions on how to do this?

    Thanks for your response!
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working. I was following the excellent directions in the attached PDF, when, on page 11 (or was it 10?) the directions just stopped at number 3. It seems there need to be more steps...
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPortNetworks.pdf
I've followed the step-by-step given on the link you shared - which matches what is found in the PDF. I've done all of that for my imac. However, I'm not sure exactly what settings need to be set on my macbook pro to get it to connect to the internet. I'm close - so close! - as the airport in the menu on my macbook shows 4 bars - but when I try to connect, nothing.
So frustrating! Any help would be golden...

  • HT3728 how do you switch airport base station controls from 1 computer to another?

I recently purchased a macbook air (love it!) and I'd like to change out the the airport base station control access to my new macbook air from the PC that I initially set it up with. Is this possible to do without having to do a factory reset on my airport base statsion?  My PC is on the verge of klonking out any day...

You can access your Airport from any device that has the Airport Utility installed as long as you are hardwired or in range of the network - I am not familiar with the new Macbook - it might already have Version 6 in utilities - this is the newest version and it is somewhat streamlined - if you want the same functionality that you are used to in the Windows version, then try and download 5.6 for your Mac - you can also use the mobile version by downloading the app to an Ipad or Iphone but is also a less functional version.

  • Autoselection for a switch between wired and wireless network

    Hello,
We currently have a VTC codec installed on a mobile cart that can connect via wireless or wired network.  The cart has the Linksys WET610N Dual-Band Wireless-N gaming and video adapter bridge.  If you want to go wireless you will have to unplug the CAT5 that goes into the walljack and plug in the cable from the bridge into the codec.
We need a 3-5 port switch. Port 1 will connect to the wireless bridge.  Port 2 would be available to connect to a wall jack.  Port 3 will connect to the codec.
We need the ability for the switch to autoselect port 1 and 2.  If Port 2 is not connected (no link light), then Port 1 will be active.  If Port 2 is active, Port 1 will be inactive.
I need to know how to configure the bridge and a network switch if this is scenerio is possible.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Well, I thought i had tried this before, but I followed another board's suggestion of turning of IGMP proxy and it is now working. I can see my iTunes server which is wired on my wireless devices.

  • M45 S359 laptop auto switch between ethernet and wireless

Had a HDD failure, replaced the HDD and rebuilt system.  Everything is working with the exception of autoswitching the connecting to the internet.  The machine used to auto switch to wireless if the ethernet cable was removed and connect via wireless or vise versa.  I now have to manually switch to the connection, do a repair before it will connect.  Once the repair is done, the connection is solid. It is probably a simple?? configuration somewhere, but I do not know where.   Need some guidance,  Tx..

Let's keep things in this thread.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station- wireless printer- wired computers able access the printer

Airport with a wireless printer- will wired computers be able to access the printer?

    Yes.
A printer on your network is accessible to any computer on the same network. Wired or wireless makes no difference.
