Switch Device for Palm Desktop hangs exporting calendar entries

The software appears to hang after exporting 86/176 entries.  I can export the calendar from Palm Desktop itself fine.  Is there a way to determine which entry is 86th to see if rem oving it might make the software continue.  POther ways to export my calendar (and maybe contacts) from the Palm?
Thanks,
Eric

  • 64 Bit Windows7/8/8.1 USB drivers for Palm Desktop

Thanks to the great folks over at Aceeca.com (makers of NEW PalmOS Garnet devices), USB drivers for 64bit Vista, Windows 7, and Win 8 operating systems are available.  There are many users reporting Palm Desktop 4.x is also working.
I have synced my TX to my Vista64 bit laptop, and Windows 8.1 HP Spectre X2 hybrid successfully via my USB cable.
    The drivers are located here:
    Aceeca Driver Downloads
Installation instructions (from Aceeca) for Windows 7 are included in the download.
    Basic instructions:
    1. Download the drivers and Extract them to the same folder.  Remember the folder you extracted them to.
    2. Try to HotSync your device.  It will fail.
    3. Open the Device Manager, and look for the Yellow Triangle next to either "Acceca" or "Palm Device" under "Other devices".
    4. Right-click on the device, and choose "Update Driver Software".
    5. Choose "Browse My Computer for Software" and direct it to the folder you extracted the Aceeca drivers to.
    6. Choose "Next" at the driver file location window, and then tell it to "Always trust software from Aceeca Ltd." then click the "Install" button.
    7. I received an error message (Vista64) that told me "The drivers were installed but the device couldn't be opened." I saw that my TX had timed out and went to sleep.  I tried a HotSync and it worked!!!
    Good luck!
NOTE:  Palm Desktop 6.22 may only show Media and Install.  Here's how to fix that:
If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 only shows Media and Install, try this:  Right-click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator".  The ther modules should appear.
To make Palm Desktop Run as Administrator every time in Windows 8/8.1:
Close Palm Desktop, if open.  (This is a very important thing to always do when using 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)
Right Click on the Palm Desktop Icon in the Metro screen, then choose "Open File Location".  You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.
Right-click on the "Palm Desktop" shortcut file, then Properties.  Now pick the Compatibility Tab at the top.
At the bottom of the Compatibility Tab is a checkbox:  "Run this Program as Administrator", Click OK .
Try opening Palm Desktop, all the parts should appear.  You may see a box open when you close the program asking "Did the program run correctly?"   I picked "Yes", and it's been working fine since then!
If you are using a much older PalmOS device and want to try using Palm Desktop 4.x, you will need this additional patch from Pimlico Software:

"After attempting your first HotSync and failing (as expected) you may be unable to find any trace of the device in Device Manager, making the next step quite difficult. This happened to me, and after some investigation I discovered the following tip that allows Device Manager to show hidden and non-present devices.
Open up Notepad and paste the following two lines into it:
    set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
    start devmgmt.msc
Save it as SetDev.bat into My Documents.
Open My Documents in Windows Explorer and double click on SetDev.bat. Device Manager should open.
In the View menu select Show Hidden Devices.
You may now see under the Other heading the failed device with a yellow triangle against it.
You can now proceed to install the drivers per the instructions.
Note that the driver supports most Palm OS versions. I'm actually using an Aceeca Meazura 1000 ruggedized PDA running OS 4.1  --- bobboffin"
    Hope this helps!

  • Palm Desktop hangs trying to open Note Pad or Voice Memo

I just purchased a Palm TX after being a devoted fan of the IIIxe for years.  First I couldn't get the computer to recognize the USB device so I manually pointed it to the driver. Then, after installing the software that came with the device (version 4.2), I tried to do a hotsync. It failed part way through and left the device unusable, stuck with the power on/Powered by Palm splash screen recycling and no response from any keys. So, I downloaded the latest Palm Desktop software (6.2.2). Once I had done that I was able to get it to sync. Whew!
Not so fast. While the Calendar, Contacts, Memos, To Do, and Media buttons allow access just fine, the Note Pad and Voice Memo buttons cause the desktop application to hang. All I can do is to go to the Task Manager and kill the program. I spent over an hour on the phone with tech support but they couldn't figure it out, either. The guy finally said he'd have to go research the problem and would get back to me. I tried moving the (empty) Note Pad folder under the username (at the time I handn't realized that Voice Memo was having the same problem) and doing a hotsync but that didn't solve the problem**. Nor did rebooting PC and doing a soft reset on Handheld. I also changed the hotsync settings to have the Note Pad and Voice Memo applications on the device overwrite the application and did a hotsync. All of those were things done under the direction of the tech support guy. After he hung up, I tried doing a repair of the program followed by a hotsync but that didn't solve the problem, either. The problem is strictly with the desktop application. The handheld works fine.
    Any suggestions?
**(One other thing that has me confused is that the new device was set up using a different username than the old device, at least the username of the new device doesn't match the name of the user folder from the old device and there was no folder created with the username I used on the new device.  I had to import the data from the old device to get it into the new device.  If you're confused, you're not the only one--my head is beginning to spin)
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Not surprising (to me, at least), that didn't work. In fact, the problem occurred even before importing the data in. I exported the data from the existing user, created a new user, and did a hard reset on the device. Even before importing the data, as soon as I clicked on the Note Pad icon in the desktop application, the application got stuck. Since I never used the Note Pad or Voice Memo portions of the applications in the past, there was never any data to export or import, so I don't think the issue is with the data from the old user, it's strictly with the application itself. One thing I find interesting is that in the Task Manager, the application doesn't say it's not responding in the Application tab and trying to stop the program from there doesn't actually stop it. I have to go to the Process tab in order to stop the application. <sigh> I'm really beginning to lose patience with this thing.

  • Palm desktop 4.2 calendar items gone.

Hi.  I'm really hoping someone can help me.  I have the Palm Destop 4.2 software and Windows XP Home on my machine.  I haven't synched in literally years - I don't use the device any more, but I still use the software for my calendaring and datebook.  All my non-recurring appointments on the calendar have vanished.  This has happened 2-3 times before, but the most recent is this morning.  I did a backup of my HDD last night, but it seems that the calendar had already gone crazy before then, as the date/time stamp on the backed up file is the same as the one on the file that has lost everything.  The address book is just fine.
Is it possible that I've hidden the non-recurring appointments somehow?  It does show categories: all  The file size for the datebook is pretty big - 3963K, and there are only 3-4 recurring appointments a week, so it seems to me that the stuff should be in there, but I can't find it.  I have gone to Toos-Options-Tools and tried reapiring corrupted database, but it came back saying there was no corruption.
I appreciate any help you can give me.

Did you look at the files in the username folder and are those the files you are talking about? There should be a .dat file in the datebook folder in the username folder. Look at the properties of the file and check the date on that file.
If you don't sync the handheld, then you run the risk of losing data unless you export the data from Palm desktop. We have seen that if you leave Palm desktop open and the PC does a Windows update it can cause data loss. I would suggest expoeting the data and saving on a flash drive, external hard drive or CD-RW. Since you don't sync you only have 1 data file and if that file gets corrupted, then you are out of luck in recovering the data. This may be your situation at this point.
Here is an explanation of the sync process and the file rotation when you sync.
You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26674
    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.
    Here is a link for other options for backing up your data;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28751
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • Palm Desktop Vista Loses Calendar Info and won't allow hotsync to replace it from Z22

For the second time in about a month, I have opened Palm Desktop on my Vista PC to find that the calendar is blank. All the information that was there is now gone. When I then attempt a hotsync with my Z22 (where that data is still intact), the hotsync hangs at step 2 of 12, which correlates to the second datebook sync in the log.
What I would like to know is: 1. What is the name of the data files that hold the sync info, and would trashing them allow a successfull hotsync? 2. Can .bak files be used in place of .dba files to replace the data? 3. What can I do in the future to avoid this issue?

I too, opened Palm Desktop on my Vista ran computer only to have all my info gone ... my desktop was more up to date than my Palm TX by four weeks.  Is there anyway I can get this info back without doing the hotsync ... seeing my desktop was the most up to date????
Any assistances would be most appreciated.

  • Palm Desktop crashes on calendar 'month' view

I am running Desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2 on WinXP with AT&T Centro.  There are random months in my desktop calendar that cause the desktop to crash when I select the 'Month' view (June '08, April '07, Nov '08).  I can't find any common trend unique to these months, the 'day' and 'week' views work fine for these months.  I have searched this forum and found a couple similar symptoms but no real solutions.  I have uninstalled/re-installed Desktop, but no change.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Paul.

I've been having the same problem with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on XP with my Centro.  So I split up all the events that spanned midnight, as HardBeatZ suggested, and if fixed three of the six months that crashed.  I've also run dbfixit, as he suggested in another thread, which found no corrupted records.  Any other suggestions?  I saw in that other thread (http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&message.id=27310&query.id=29789) the idea of trashing the months and re-entering events, but that seemed to be a different problem with Vista.
I see the suggestion here by patkosanke to revert to 4.1.4, which is what I previously had for my Tungsten E.  What about all the warnings with my Centro that I had to install the included 6.2.2?  Are those warnings not true for XP?  And what about the change from dat to mdb files, if I were to revert?  Reverting seems to postpone the inevitable transition to Vista, though.
Also, it seemed to me that 6.2.2 had more fields for phone numbers, for which I reformatted bunches of my contacts -- previously I had doubled up on some, but that doesn't allow them to be dialed.  Is that a change from 4.1, in which case reverting might kill those fields, or is that possibly a change from my even earlier IIIx?
    Thanks,
    John S.

Ok if you remove your data from palm desktop does it still crash in the month view, also what months are crashing, I could possibly do a little research and tell you what days are causing the problem.

  • Can I Use DTA to Transfer Straight From Palm Desktop to Google Calendar

I have a Palm Tungsten E2, and a Palm Desktop account for it, but I also have another Desktop account, which I want to keep separate and copy into Google Calendar.
I got the Data Transfer Assistant (DTA), and went through the first few steps towards transferring the data - even selecting the right account - but now it's saying that I need to connect my handheld, and sinse I  don't have a handheld for that account, it looks like I'm stuck.
I tried connecting my Tungsten E2, but it did not recognize that and left the "Next" button pale.
I imagine I might be able to get this done if I erase everything from my Palm, HotSync the other account into it, and then do the DTA, but I'm not quite sure how to do that nor am I sure that when I erase the secondary account and sync the primary one back in I will have everything that I currently have - all the data, all the applications.
Is that the best way to go, and if so, what safety measures should I take?
If not, what is the best way to transfer data straight from Palm Desktop (version 6.2.2) to another calendar - preferably Google, but Outlook would be okay.
One thing that I know would work would be to convert the DBA file into a CSV file, but I don't know how to do that.
Any answers to any of the subquestions?

  • What are the file storage names for Palm Desktop 4.1.4? My data appears to be lost

    Hi,
I am using Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and have the Application loaded on a Flash Drive. This was done long ago and maps to the E:.
I am on Windows XP SP2.  I usually insert my flash into a USB port on my PC and start a shortcut which points to and starts the desktop off of the E: drive.
I decided i wanted to also place the dekstop on my C: drive and started the install from the Flash drive. In my rush and stupidity, i did not correctly tell it to install to the C: and it ended up reinstall to the E:     So when i bring up the desktop, all is gone !
I have looked and search in every way i can think of looking for files from .DAT, to .PDB, .PRC, etc etc.  If i take older version i find of many of these files and place them in the E:  root directory in which the desktop OPTIONS Menu says the data is stored, nothing changes.
The OPTIONS menu under TOOLS in desktop states data files go to E:
The application is installed under E:\PalmDesktop
The .EXE, .DLL, files are under E:\PalmDesktop   as well as under E:\
When the reinstall of the desktop occurred other folders that were under E:\PalmDesktop such as Components, Helpnote, Update etc and well as one with my name Brian don't appear to have been touched.
I am not sure if my data is lost forever or not.   Can someone provide me with the exact file names that data in the desktop such as "Contacts"  is stored in so i can try to find them. I must admit i have never had such a difficult time finding the  data files for other products as i have with this one, but then again maybe thats a good thing.
Thanks in advance for anyones help - Brian

The username that you've been using is Brian? if you see that folder open it and look for folders address (contacts) datebook (calendar) todo (tasks) memo pad (memo)
then check if you have address.bak or adress.dat for contacts, datebook.bak for calendar if you see those try importing them to your palm desktop.

Using "regedit" I was able to change the font size larger for use with the Palm Desktop software.
Run "regedit" and export (save) a backup copy for safety
        File  >  Export
      Search for "FontSmall"
Edit  >  Find  >  Find what  >  FontSmall
Click on FontSizeGeneral and change the "Value data" to 16
      Exit "regedit"
Run Palm Desktop software and enjoy the new legible font size!
      Notes:
      1) The location of the Palm Desktop software on my system using "regedit" is:
            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core
            * Your location of the Palm Desktop software may differ.
      2) I tested this on monitors using resolutions of 1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768
The font size is noticeably readable and much, much better
      3) You may also change the font family from the default (Arial) to another, such as Verdana, etc.
FontCard    (Changes the font family in the side panels)
FontGeneral    (Changes the font family for most of the program fonts)

  • Palm Desktop ATE MY CALENDAR AGAIN!!!! I CAN'T Connect to ANY Of my DATA! And I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO POST THIS

While opening palm desktop I got the dreaded "Error failed to open Date Book database" and my ENTIRE datebook was EATEN AGAIN...
Shame on me for depending on this flakey software to keep track of my entire G*dd*mn life but there it is...
I WAS still running 4.2.  I've tried uninstalling 4.2 and installing 6.2 under the (obviously) mistaken assumption that there's a way to fix the corrupt datebook database in 6.2.
Now I can't even access any of my other data like ALL OF MY ADDRESSES AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS, ALSO (SILLY ME!!!) entrusted to this flakey POS software....
because now I cannot find any way in the menus or imports or WHATEVER in 6.2 to connect the program to my old profile...
Does anyone know of any 3rd party software that can retrieve my data from the old databases?  (That would be my first preference -- GET MY INFORMATION and then deep six this sucker!)...
Is there a CLUE anywhere in any documentation about how I can reconnect my GOOD data with 6.2???
    Post relates to: Visor Prism

This happens probably because of 2 existing palm desktop data. Older version of PDS will store the user data under c:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One on the other hand PDS 6.2 will store the User Data under My Documents\PalmOS Desktop.
Given that you have all the updated data on your phone, Uninstall Palm Desktop , and make sure you remove all other folders for previous PDS. (rename palm folders under program files and palm os desktop under mydocuments). Once everything has been removed, install fresh installation of PDS, sync your device and just make sure you set the sync method to Handheld overwrites Desktop.

Hi I have found this thread, after trying to connect my Acer S60 to windows 7 64 home

At first I get (I cant remember exact message) device not recognised, so I tried to make the lines in the .inf file match
the ones seen by device manager
    old        %ACER_DEVICE_ID_01%  = DriverInstall.NTamd64,USB\VID_0502&PID_0001

                  %ACER_DEVICE_ID_02%  = DriverInstall.NTamd64,USB\VID_0502&PID_0736
Now the error messages report an acer handheld but I get
    "can't install driver"
"this type of data not supported" (again I don't remember exactly the message)
    from the driver installer process.
    Any Ideas
Reason for this activity is the impending demise of XP, where I use palm desktop 4.0.1 (4.0.4 works as well now I have tested it on another XP system)
I have tried palm desktop 6.2 under XP but the data does not get synced to the PC desktop app (the handheld is not corrupted)

You would re-install Palm DT 4.1.4, then rename the .dat file to .old in each folder Datebook, Calendar, Too do's, and Memos under your user name in C:\Program Files\Palm\ [your Palm user name (similar)] . Then put the .dat file you have saved from your original install folders in each new respective folder. Then you should be able to view your data under the user name you placed it under.

  • Mail for Exchange, new task and calendar entries

    Dear All,
I am having a wonderful time with a brand new E71 plus the latest version of Mail for Exchange (2.09.158 as per the info screen on the device). It syncs fine with a Exchange 2003 server in that contacts, tasks and calendar entries (it is not supposed to sync mail as well) are properly downloaded and changes made on the phone are replicated back to the server on the next sync.  The fun starts when I create a new task or calendar entry on the phone: Those are  not created on the server at all. Another problem is deleting a task on the phone that was created on the server. For some reason the deletion does not show up on the server as well and the task remains there until deleted via Outlook. Has anybody seen this kind of behaviour? I cannot debug anything on the server, since it is a hosted solution from an ISP. Neither can I sniff the network traffic, since that is SSL encrypted. Any tips and/or work arounds are greatly appreciated.
