Switch from Entourage to Apple mail

I have imported my Entourage emails and Addressbook into Apple mail. Some new emails are coming into Entourage and some into Apple Mail and some into both. How do I control this so they stop coming into Entourage and come only into Apple?
Thanks.
  Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for your reply.
If I have imported my addressbook and emails from Entourage into Apple mail, is that the same thing has backing up my Entourage data as you suggested? Or is there something else I'm not aware of that should be backed up. All I have ever used Entourage for is email and addressbook. Entourage has also been automatically backing up up on iDisk.
Thanks again.
You're going to need to stop Entourage from getting
email from that account.
Open Entourage.
Go to the Entourage menu.
You can then select and delete the account.
Note: You should consider backing up your Entourage
data just in case you change your mind.

In Mail.app, try pulling down the File menu and select the "import mailboxes" item.

  • Moving folders from Entourage to Apple Mail

I need to move several folders of 'saved messages' from Entourage to Apple Mail. I have done by using File>Import Mailboxes then clicked Microsoft Entourage. I get the boxes up and tick the ones I want to import.
They do drop into Mail, as do the headers of the mails inside each folder but when I click on one it's an empty email. I guess this is something to do with them not being mbox format.
Any ideas how I save all my Entourage emails in mbox format and then get them into Mail else I am going to be switching between both Applications every day?

Actually my subject is misleading: It should be "From Entourage on 1 mac to Entourage on another mac." In retrospect I should have posted this message in another thread. Sorry!
From Entourage drag the mailboxes into a folder on the desktop (it works).
Airport the folder over to the the other mac.
Launch Entourage & drag the .eml files (the extension for Entourage mailboxes) from the desktop folder into the Inbox in the Entourage application.
New mailboxes will automatically be created containing all of the emails in the Entourage window of the original computer.
This isn't strictly a Mail & Address book issue, perhaps it should have been in the OS 10.4 thread. In any case I hope this is useful to anyone who needs to xfer emails in such a manner. Resending each one would have been brutal as I'm talking several thousands. For tedious reasons too many to list I realized that I needed the mailboxes and their content transferred into Entourage on the other computer.
    I love "drag and drop."

  • How do I import contact list from entourage to apple mail?

I've been using Entourage as my email for years, but everything Microsoft on my Mac screw up.  I want to get rid of all of my Microsoft stuff.  How do I transfer my mail contacts from Entourage to Apple Mail?

Does Entourage export as CSV (comma separated vars)? You can import that file format into Contacts.

  • Switching from Entourage to ical, mail, and address book- duplications?

I am tired of the slowness of Entourage and was thinking of switching to all of the native mac programs. Any suggestions or comments on whether this is a good idea or not?
Also, will all of my information be duplicated. I have about 3 gigs of information and I don't want to needlessly store it if I don't need to. Can I get some advice on where to find and extract that information from the entourage program so I am not eating up disc space unnecessarily.
    Thank you.

Three weeks ago I switched from Entourage and Palm Desktop to Apple mail, address book and ical. It was a tad painful because I ended up with a lot of duplicates as I had email and some contact info in Entourage and several thousand contacts in Palm Desktop.
However after a couple of solid nights sorting out the duplicates all the contact info for each person is now in one place.
Word of warning though when you are checking address book entries make sure you keep backing up the changes (File - Backup address book) because for some inexplicable reason a couple of times all the entries in address book vanished.
Also the check for duplicates option in address book might be great for some but for me it created contacts that had their addresses and phone numbers duplicated several times.
After initial teething problems (getting used to the different programs) I am now pretty happy with the changeover. I am ecstatic to not be seeing the constant Entourage error message of 'your database is damaged and needs to be rebuilt' which entourage kept throwing at me (even after repeated rebuilds).
I have a Palm Treo and Address Book and iCal sync fine with that as well (after installing the conduit).
You'll also find in mail that you can't do as much snazzy formatting as you could with Entourage (ie numbered lists and bullet points) but hopefully Apple will address that in later updates. In the meantime if I'm desperate for formatting I write the email in rtf and paste it across complete with bluet points.
Sorry to drone on but wanted to give you some moral support.
Oh by the way the entourage data is stored in Home folder - Documents - Microsoft User Data - Office 2004 Identities - main identity - database (almost need a compass and flashlight to find it). To be on the safe side burn it to a dvd just in case and then trash it and all it's little friends (rules, lists, signatures and the other main identity folders.
    Good luck

  • Switching from Mailsmith to Apple Mail app

Ok, I've had a problem recently with Mailsmith, though in general I prefer it to Apple's Mail. I like a text only mail app with everything else as attachments which one can choose to open or not. That said, I recently  messed up: my elderly G4 MDD was slowing down and I got worried that it was on its last legs. In order not to lose recent emails, I opened Mailsmith on my MacBook Pro, something I usually don't do from home but only while travelling, and downloaded available mail from my various accounts. Since then, both on the MBP and on the G4 I have been receiving duplicate emails from my dot mac accounts (main address and alias). This is not occurring on my other (ISP/web hosted) accounts, only on the mac ones. I wrote to the Mailsmith support but got no satisfaction and not much interest. I also posted the issue here but got no responses. At this point I am considering moving my Mailsmith mailboxes - all 31 of them - to Apple Mail and trying to use that as my main mail app. I have converted all the mailboxes to mbox format and succeeded in importing them into Mail, but they show up as "on my Mac" import 4. Is there a way to make them my main mailboxes in the Mail app? I realize I will have to go though each and duplicate the rules/filters so new mail goes to the proper mailbox, but is this possible? How?
    Thanks for any useful suggestions.
    cheers.
    ncm

Ok I'll try that. I imagine I have to recreate each mailbox within Mail and then drag the contents of the old/imported mailboxes to their new equivalents.
Mail is using IMAP for Apple mail and POP for my other accounts. I'm still not comfortable with IMAP as I've only ever used POP so far but I suppose it is useful for viewing and keeping email up to date on different devices and computers...but I do want copies of everything on my Mac. Don't really trust having it all only in the cloud.

  • HT5361 Switching from Eudora to Apple Mail

I have an eMac that was upgraded to Mac OS X v. 10.5.8.  I need to get a new machine.  But I am using Eudora as my mail client and it can't be upgraded and will not work with later systems, so I am trying to switch to Apple Mail which I assume will be upgradable when I get the new system.  However, I can't get the mail to work even after using the cheat sheet which does not correspond exactly with what I see on the screen.  Can anyone help? Thanks.

  • Switching from Entourage back to Mail...any suggestions

I downloaded Entourage and I am not happy with it, I want to go back to mail but I'm worried about the switch, anyone have any suggestions on keeping the previous emails?

If you have Entourage set up to use IMAP and leave messages on the mail server, all you need to do is simply not use Entourage any more. No big deal.

  • Trying to go from Entourage to Apple Mail using Exchange Server

I am currently using Entourage and successfully connecting to my company's Exchange Server. I am sick of how Entourage wraps text and poorly handles HTML emails, and a host of other annoyances. However, I cannot for the life of me get Mail to work with my Exchange Server. The input fields on the account setup are not the same between Entourage and Mail. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Same goes for me. I know IMAP is not enabled. Entourage WORKS within my workplace network but mail.app will not. Entourage is OK using IP addresses like 10.1.1.30 where mail.app doesn't know what to do with them. Again, all this is within the workplace network. Outside the network, Entourage does not work and all I have to use in Outlook Web Access. I am fine with the inside-outside situation. I just would like a workaround to be able to use my mail.app within my workplace Exchange environment.

  • Files Not Available after switch from Outlook to Apple Mail.

I have a bunch of files that can't be opened now that I have a new iBook with OS10. I've tried opening them in Classic (9.2) with Outlook, nothing. Even my translation software can't make heads or tails of these files, which not long ago were legitimate documents. HELP?
Is there someone willing to receive a file or two from me to try and figure this out? They are virus free, but I can't take responsibility for them on your side.

  • Help - switch from entourage to mail before or after Lion upgrade?

I want to upgrade to os x Lion. I also want to switch from Entourage (2008) to Mail with this upgrade. Should I switch to Mail in Snow Leopard, then do the Upgrade to Lion?

Entourage will NOT work with Lion. If you switch to Lion first, you will NOT be able to easily, or perhaps at all, get your Entourage data.
Definitely switch to Mail first. Move all of MSFT programs' data that depend on Rosetta to some other program. Only after you have done that and tested the solution should you upgrade to Lion.
    I didn't.

  • Entourage to Apple mail for email

I've been putting off making the move from Entourage to Apple Mail.  Now is the time....but ---- in several online instructions I found this direction: To move your email, open Mail and click File > Import Mailboxes. From the pop-up window, select Microsoft Entourage as the email client.  When I do that Entourage is not on the list...it's Apple Mail, Netscape, Thunderbird, Eudora and files in mbox format.  So what do I need to do move my email to Apple Mail.
    Thanks.

Hi All, I had duplicated mail boxes set up. Apple Support called me (I had scheduled the time) and they took a look at it and said to delete one of them.

  • Switching from Entourage to Mail: use Entourage Groups?

I'm attempting to switch from Entourage to Mail and Address Book (not least because of the attractions of smart folders, etc), but I can't figure out how or if I will be able to send occasional email mailshots to large groups of people.
I run an occasional newsletter in email format. Because the list is very large, it wouldn't make sense to set up individual vCards for each individual email address on the list, and yet that seems to be the only way to email all the members of a group using Mail and Address Book.
With Entourage, on the other hand (and I would dearly love to wave goodbye to it in all other respects) I could set up a Group exactly as I would set up an individual contact, then copy the entire list to it, and could even add occasional new email addresses whenever I liked or delete others as they opted to leave the group.
Am I missing something in Mail / Address Book, or will I have to cut and paste into the To: box my entire long list each time I need to send a mailshot? (And doing that would involve using a word processor or text editor in order to manage the list, which is adding yet another programme to what should be a pretty simple task...)
Many thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Yes. Importing your mail from Entourage does not affect the Entourage database.

  • Neither Entourage nor Apple Mail will retain my password

About three weeks ago, Entourage '08 stopped remembering my password (I'm remembering now, it was around when we updated to 10.6.8).  I spend about 2 hours trying to figure out why, checking discussion boards, etc.  I thought it was Entourage, murmured some obscenities about Microsoft, and went to switch my gmail IMAP acct to Apple Mail.  Keychain still does not retain the password there either.  I've tried to repair permissions, but to no avail.
Interestingly enough, I have another user name on the Mini where Entourage and Apple Mail behaves just fine when logged in.  On my Macbook Pro, the update has not affected use of Entourage or Apple Mail.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I read a bunch of the older posts on similar topics, but haven't found a solution.
    Thanks, all!

switch my gmail IMAP acct to Apple Mail
Open Mac Mail. From the menu bar click Mail / Preferences then select the Accounts tab then select the Account Information tab.
    Type in the password.
Quit Mail, then relaunch Mail to test.

  • Moving from Entourage to Mac Mail

    Hey All,
I'm moving all of my mail accounts over to mac mail so that when the time comes that I have my iPhone (few months hopefully) all my mail will go to the mac mail app, and thus to my phone as well.
First is there a way I can move all of my messages that i have saved from Entourage over to mail (without forwarding each individual one) AND i can't figure out how to create folders. I can make a smart mailbox, but I'm trying to create a folder so that, for instance, when my boss sends me an email, i can move it to the folder, so that I can save it. OR even have a rule set so that messages from my boss go to that folder. I was able to do it in entourage, i'm just wondering if i can in mail?

For import, read this apple article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml807.html
For creating folder read this apple article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml611.html
    Hope this helps.
