Switch iTunes DB from XP to OS X

Hello there,
I've just ordered a MacBook Pro which will be shipped in the few next days. I was just wondering how i could save my whole iTunes database (playcounts, ratings, playlists, smart playlists, video playlists, ...) from my actual PC to the brand new MacBook?
I really need to keep the playlists and playcounts as i have smart playlists that uses the playcounts, and i have several playlists that have been filled with music for the last two years... i couldn't lost that or redo it
If i use the export function in iTunes, then manually edit the file to change the location of the MP3, then import it to iTunes on the MacBook Pro, will it be a perfect copy of my actual DB?
Thanks!

According to the description, all info will be preserved.
Quote:
There you go. All your music, playlists, and other information like play counts and ratings have all been moved from your old computer to your new one.

I can't tell you from my own experience however (only have a 5GB iPod), so you have to trust the description.
The export feature definitely does not preserve all info. I do know that from my own experience.
The exported file does not contain all data. It is a file similar to the 'iTunes Music Library.xml'
This article tells you more about the library files:
What are the iTunes library files?

I currently have my itunes account set up on my house computer for the past few years... I would like to switch the account over onto my macbook laptop. How do I do this? Thank you.

Copy \Music\iTunes\iTunes music\ folder to the memory stick.
    Plug it into your MacBook.
    Open iTunes.
Go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced. Tick *Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library*.
Now go to iTunes menu File -> Add to library anbd select the *iTunes music folder* on the memory stick then click Ok.

  • Switching iTunes songs from computer to computer

I just got a Macbook and was trying to get the songs onto it; however, it only uploads 120 out of 420. It says I need to authorize my computer but I already did that all 5 out of 5 machines. I know that it will only sync the purchased ones, but what about all of the other songs, such as CD imports, how do I get them on?

*I just got a Macbook and was trying to get the songs onto it; however, it only uploads 120 out of 420*
Uploads them from where, a back up disc, an iPod?

When you say it only syncs purchased one I presume you mean from an iPod. There are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Switch iTunes Library from one Mac to Another

I have an older iMac which I keep the iTunes library on an external. I just got a new MBP. How do I configure it so the iTunes library for the MBP will be the same library that I have on the external. With Lion and iCloud coming I will have to use the MBP as the iMac is not upgradeable to Lion.

If you want to keep the music on the external, change the default path in iTunes/Preferences/Advanced.
Tell iTunes to keep the music organized.
Then, in the Menu/iTunes/File/Add to library...., select the Music file folder and iTunes will build the .xml file.
If you want to move the music to the new machines drive, select, drag and drop the library file to your Music folder on the new machine.
Or, just use the Add to Library command and select the music folder on the external.
Oh, before moving, be sure to File/Library/Organize Library/Consolidate files.

  • How do I switch iTunes Library from Mac to Windows?

Well, my Macbook died today. Fortunately I have all my media on an external drive. Also, I have a Windows machine. How do I point my Windows iTunes to access my external drive/media? Also, I have an iPhone - will that be messed up; will all my data be erased. Oh lord, what a nightmare! (At least my Mac is backed up, so someday I'll be able to restore that to a new Mac.) Is it as simple as Preferences > Advanced > "iTunes Media folder location" and changing that location? Also, will Windows even be able to read the disk? I'm freakin'.

  • Switching iTunes from mac to pc - having problems - help, please!!!!

I have an iPod and a Shuffle and all my music is in iTunes on my mac.
I want to now have my iTunes on my pc instead. I understand my iPod is not compatible, so I plan to re-format it once I get iTunes all squared away.
I downloaded iTunes onto my pc and...
Issue #1: When I open i Tunes I receive an error (no code) that says: "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." I can hit "ok" on the message and iTunes opens up.
I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same message. True, I have other CD burning software on the computer but don't want to delete it. Don't know if this is really an issue except for having to bypass that error message every time I open iTunes....
Issue #2: I Exported my iTunes library from the mac onto an external hard drive formated in fat32 thinking I could either import the music into iTunes on my pc, or, even better, use the external drive to store the music for use with iTunes on my pc.
Ideally, I'd store the music on the external hard drive and use iTunes on my PC with my iPod and Shuffle.
BUT, after searching the support site and discussions and trying the suggestions I found, I stil have no music showing up in iTunes on the pc.
Can anyone help me? I've spent quite a bit of time on this already and I really can't keep wasting the time. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

First you will want to look for updates to your other CD burning programs that will possiably fix this issue or try uninstalling reinstalling both iTUnes and quicktime.
Im not that mac savy, but on the windows side of things, iTUnes is very picky on what is where.you can recreat the Library on your PC if the file you saved from the mac is a "iTUnes Music Library.xml" file but that would be a hard thing and a mess cuz iTUnes for windows doesn't "Watch" folders. So if that Nickelback song you have was on C:/Mac/Music or however a mac does folders, then it would have to be in the EXACT location in windows. If not your going to have a very sloppy library full of ! marks.
But if you want you can recreate the library following these instructions http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313

  • HT204053 How can I switch my iTunes account from US store to Nigeria store?

How can I switch my iTunes account from US store to Nigeria store?

If you are asking because you are getting an 'account not in this country' error message then on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch try going to the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on the device and tap on your account id, tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account, and then select the Country/Region section on that screen and select Nigeria.
If you need to update your address on your account from the US to Nigeria then on your computer's iTunes you should be able to do so by signing into your account via the Store > View Account menu option and updating your address, or on an iOS device you can do it by tapping on your id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store similar to above.

I believe you mean to say that you wish to switch which country's iTunes Store you are accessing. Go to iTunes Store > Change Country (all the way at the bottom) to do this. You'll have to use up all of your iTunes balance to do this. Post back if this is not what you wanted to do.

How do I switch my photos from my old IPad to my new IPad?  I tried to use ITunes but it would not accept the new IPad.

If your device is Not recognized, try these suggestions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852
Copy all content to your computer, including the photos taken with your old device, explained in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
You'll have to use iTunes to copy the photos you imported to your computer to your new iPad again.
If the photos are not part of the camera roll, you'll have to use 3rd party software to copy them to your computer.

  • How can I switch my iTunes catalog from my desktop pc to my laptop?

I am retiring my desktop computer that has my iTunes music catalog. This is the pc that I sync my iPhone, iPod, and iPad.How can I delete this from the desktop computer and transfer it all on my laptop or possibly a different desktop? Is it possible to do this without losing what you have in your library, including purchased items and cds you've downloaded? Thank you.

Copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new one.
You can do this across a network, but it may be better to use an external drive, particularly if you don't already have a backup strategy. Get yourself a portable USB powered drive big enough for your iTunes library, your other personal documents and data, and room for growth. Backup your library with this User Tip. Use the same technique to "restore" the backup to the new computer and then keep the backup up to date in future.
Deauthorise the old computer once you are certain that you no longer need to access protected content from it.
