Hello,
my company is planning to move the server room between floors and, with this opportunity I'd like to review the switch layout in order to improve it.
After some "scouting" (Well, I'm not a networking expert) I came up with the following layout
Starting from top:
- my firewall comes with an internal NIC that I will connect to the main switch (Linksys SGE2000 - SWITCH0) connected with the uplink port (using a Cat5e cable or a fiber cable)to another SGE2000 (SWITCH1) acting as a bigger single unit (to which I will connect all the servers)
- The lower layer are 3 switches
   - SWITCH2 - Linksys SLM48G 10/100
   - SWITCH3 - 3Com 48p 10/100
   - SWITCH4 - 2x 3Com 24p 10/100 Stacked with a stacking module (old but rock-solid)
that will serve all LAN clients (Desktops, notebooks, printers, voip phones etc...)
Does this configuration can be considered as "valid"? (Blue and green cables are my personal redundancy concept:))
Is it recommended also to inter connect SWITCH2-3-4 between themselves?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

Hi there. Something strange has happened to me using my Macbook Pro. My Hard Drive disappeared from desktop and finder. I found out that somehow it has the "hidden" flag. Once I found this out, I tried to erase it but, when the terminal asks me my password, it doesn't accept any input at all. Any key I press, or any string I try to copy doesn't appear.
that's normal and is a security feature.
to make your drive visible enter the following terminal command
sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
The only thing I can do is press enter, receiving the "wrong password" warning. I tried to switch keyboard layout but nothing happens.
Any suggestion?

  • Subnet config and switch layout for windows 2012 ISCSI server

I would like to ask about subnet design and switch layout in regards to using a Windows 2012 ISCSI solution. When you guys design subnets for ISCSI configurations do you use one subnet or multiple subnets?  Also do you link the switches together when
designing your ISCSI layouts? These types of things are normally discussed in vendor deployment guides.  However, I have not come across a best practices guide for deploying Server 2012 ISCSI.

For iSCSI you typically create a separate subnets around physical NICs you use for iSCSI traffic (assuming they are used by iSCSI target for MPIO of course). Here are few guides on how to do that (some for Windows Server 2008 R2 but you can ignore that fact
as target itself did not change much and concepts are still the same). See:
Configure iSCSI MPIO on Windows (full)
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/migreene/archive/2009/08/29/3277914.aspx
(make sure you have at leas one connection before you try to enable MPIO)
Setting up a Target and Initiator
    http://www.server-log.com/blog/2011/7/26/setting-up-an-microsoft-iscsi-target-and-initiator-using-mpi.html
You need however be aware of a couple of facts...
    1) MSFT does not see much future in iSCSI and is replacing it with SMB3 where it can. So if you want to use iSCSI to provide shared storage to your guest VMs you need to use shared VHDX hosted on SMB3 share, see:
Shared VHDX for guest VM Cluster
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265980.aspx
If you plan to use iSCSI to host CSV and VM images there you again can use SMB3 share, see:
    Hyper-V over SMB
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134187.aspx
That's both simpler to manage (you don't configure anything except teaming for NICs to enable SMB Multichannel and create a shared folder in a few clicks) and faster: MSFT iSCSI target is not cached @ server side while (OK, Hyper-V ovens VMs in a pass-thru
mode but other users typically don't do that). SQL Server is the same as Hyper-V in terms of SMB3 support, Windows clusters support SMB3 share as a witness and so on.
    2) That's a single point of failure. Think about using SoFS instead of a single SMB3 share and think about clustering your target (you'll need a separate fault tolerant back end of that) to increase uptime. See:
    MSFT iSCSI Target Failover Cluster
    http://techontip.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/microsoft-iscsi-target-cluster-building-walkthrough/
    Good luck! :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Switch Layout in SU53 screen

    Hi All,
We are on ECC 5.0. I knew that there will be a button in SU53 screen to change the layout from a Classic to Tree structure and vice versa. I also know about the parameter that can be set in user's account parameters for changing this.
But, I can't see the Switch Layout button in the SU53 screen irrespective of the user and the parameter setting.
I can see the button in ECC 6.0.
Please help me to switch layout in Ecc 5.0.
    Thanks

    Hi,
SAP Note 968915 mentions about absence of switch layout button. Please check if it's applicable for your patch levels and system release.
Also, SAP Note 1008990 is to be followed up in case the one above solves your issue.
    Award points if found usefull.

I'm using gnome. Is there a way to do it using the graphical environment?I don't have time this days to learn writing scripts cause i really need the greek layout for my studies and there's little time.

  • Making the switch - any suggestions?

So, I did it. I finally ordered a Mac (Mini) and am making the switch from MS/Intel to Apple. My Mini isn't even here yet (due next week), but I have been browsing the forums here to get an idea of any pitfalls I need to avoid, suggestions that look like a good idea, etc...
So, I ask the forum -- what do you suggest? I am fairly computer-literate (built my last PC from pieces), but have absolutely no experience with Apple/Mac/OS X...
Any books to learn the new lingo? Any apps that will make the transition a little smoother? While I am excited in the switch, there is some trepidation in learning a new language...
    Thanks in advance...
mac mini, 1.66 Core 2 Duo, 2 Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Blankmange, welcome! And congrats on your choice to switch.
We can probably give tips that are better directed if you tell us a bit about how you used your PC, what programs and tasks you did with it, etc. And what you want to do with your new Mac.
    Some tips up front:
    1) The Mac equivalent of CTL-ALT-DEL to get the attention of a non-responsive program is Apple-Option-ESC. Or WinKey-Alt-ESC, if you are using Windows keyboard. The "Apple" key is also referred to as the "Cmd" or "Command" key. Or the "squiggle" key.
    2) Don't rename your home folder, ie the one with the House icon.
    3) Stay out of the iPhoto Library folder. It's contents are best used via the iPhoto program.
A thread on how to be a smart Mac user here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=4086431
    4) 512 Meg RAM on an Intel Mac is not a good match for MS Office. Need 1 Gig for decent performance. With 2 Gig, the Mini really shows its stuff when running multiple apps.
    5) The equivalent of the Windows Control Panel is Apple Menu > System Preferences.
    6) Unless you have more than 512 Meg RAM memory, don't get carried away with running "Dashboard Widgets". They can consume a fair amount of memory, and slow down your system.
    7) You can use a two-button mouse with scroll wheel. The right mouse button will supply "context-sensitive" menus, which can be a real time saver.
    8) The equivalent of "Properties" is "Get Info".
    9) The equivalent of "Shortcut" is "Make Alias". Aliases have a little arrow in the bottom left corner of their icons. Be sure to note this, so that you can tell the difference between an alias and the original. Copying an alias will not make a copy of the original, only a copy of the alias. Deleting an alias will leave the original intact. Deleting the original, deletes your data.
    10) The Mac has a very efficient virtual memory system and file system, and you usually don't need to concern yourself with either. Just make sure you leave 10% or more of your hard disk free, so that the OS has elbow room. The OS will even keep your disk defragmented automatically if you give it enough room to work.
    11) If you buy external storage, firewire is much preferred to usb. Will be substantially faster. A dual-interface (Firewire+USB) will give maximum flexibility for devices that need to be used with PCs and Macs.
    12) My personal opinion is that Norton Anti-virus is not a good choice for OSX. It hooks deep into the OS, and appears to be correlated with a number of mysterious problems reported here. Clam-AV would be a safer choice -- though most Mac users don't run any anti-virus, including yours truly. I would recommend that you turn on the Apple firewall and/or use a router with firewall protection.
    13) Have a look at the free NeoOffice suite, if you'd like to keep some money in your pocket instead of giving it to Bill Gates: http://neooffice.org Reads and writes MS formats. Produces great PDFs, too. I exchange documents with many organizations using NeoOffice; never had a bit of problem.

  • Xorg layout still doesn't work (almost)[SOLVED]

    Hi,
After struggling to enable keyboard layout after the latest upgrage, I managed to do
    the following:
I enabled Hotplugging, and configured it to work.
In the KDM login screen (prior to login), everything works fine: I got both layouts I want, and can toggle between them.
But after KDE starts, I loose my ability to swith layouts using my configured toggle switch (its back to the
old toggle switch - a different one, which simply changes the flag when I try to switch layouts, but the keyboard is not switched).
    I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I am enjoying iphoto11, but sometimes wish for more page layout options.  Is it possible to flip an entire page layout  - like the option to flip a photo? I am currently working with a Photo Essay theme and in most of the layouts the text box is on the same side of the page. When I preview the book I see that I have many parallel layouts which looks a little stiff.  Any ideas?

1 - there is no option to add layouts or modify existing layouts - suggest to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
2 - I understand that Aperture offers this capability
3 - you can do pages in any program you want and do a print to PDF using the send PDF to iPhoto option and then use that image as a full page photo in a book - see Old Toad's tutorial #19 for more info

  • [Solved]Ctrl+V not working in libreoffice on gnome(non-latin layout)

When using gnome-shell&libreoffice or calligra, universal keyboard shortcuts such as ctrl+v or ctrl+z don't do anything while on a non-latin layout(hebrew in my case).
If I want to paste something with ctrl+v I have to change layout to English and only then will it work.
Under MATE the shortcuts work fine regardless of the layout in both applications(and all others i have tried).
Under GNOME Shell all other applications I tried accept the shortcuts regardless of the layout(Firefox, gedit, Empathy, Nautilus)
Anyone has an idea as to what might cause this behavior when using GNOME?
    Thanks.
EDIT: Solved for libreoffice by removing the package "libreoffice-gnome". UI is not as pretty now but at least the keyboard shortcuts work.

After months of switching layouts and banging my head against this bug, I thought I should check LibreOffice settings (I'm using 4.1.5.3 now). What figures? I did find something. And in just a few clicks.
This is not a bug! It's simply a matter of configuration.
For the regular keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc.) to remain operational in LibreOffice applications while using a non-latin keyboard layout (like Greek or Russian), go to Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Languages, check the Ignore system input language option, save, and Bob's your uncle.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!
    PS
Technically, though, shortcuts still remain language-dependent. This means if you enable this option, you will have to set your document languages manually.

PS Caps issue is fixed now. Thanks. Caps Lock itself was disabled in Caps Lock key behaviour branch in Options in keyboard layout panel.

  • Devanagari in urxvt and keyboard layout...

I just started taking Hindi this semester, and I was wondering how to get urxvt to work with the Devanagari script. I know the man page specifically mentions that it doesn't support all the complex combining rules, but it should still work a little bit, right? I can't get anything to display except squares.
Also, what is the keyboard layout or variant for this script? Does anyone know how I could switch layouts on-the-fly with a keyboard shortcut or something (for instance, xbindkeys)?
Thanks in advance. Hopefully somebody can help; I realize this is a little bit esoteric.
