• Is the left-hand Home screen reserved for TV and movies?

As familiar as I thought I was with Android (via my phones) I thought I would've figure out by now how to get this screen back for other uses. But so far no luck. Is 1//3 of my available Home screen space really reserved for TV and Movies (and, at that, apparently only the ones downloaded from Google Play)?

Ann154,
Bingo! You were absolutely right! And now that widget is gone.
Unfortunately, so is the screen it was occupying. Now, instead of three screens I have but two - - the original center screen and the one that had previously been the right-hand screen.
Which prompts the question of how and where pages are added or deleted from the home screens.

• Hi guys I have a iPad 2 I recently upgraded it from iOS5 to ios7. Since then it only uses the 8ta network but in the top left hand corner it says no service with 3G next to it how am I able to fix this? Could it be a hardware problem?

Since I upgraded my iPad from iOS5 to ios7 my iPad will only work on one network.
However in the top left hand corner is says no service with 3G next to it.
I took it to Apple istore in clearwater mall and they couldn't help me.
Please advise me on how to sort the problem out.
Kind Regards

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Thank you for your advice, it works. I have struggled for hours to find the solution I am very grateful.

• Are there any other left eye dominant (or left handed) iPhone users that experience problems with the touch screen keyboard selecting the letter next to the one you'd intended..?

Are there any other left eye dominant (or left handed) iPhone users that experience problems with the touch screen keyboard selecting the letter next to the one you'd intended..?

It's either hand right or left.
I have the same issue myself. Not sure if it's b/c my fingers are too big or if I'm really missed the letter on the keyboard.

• Switching to AT&T Cingular - best phone for use with Mac and iSync

Dear Friends,
I am finally about to be free from Sprint's poor customer service. I will be switching to AT&T / Cingular. (Not quite ready to buy an iPhone, but don't want to be locked into a 2 year contract with another provider).
I want to use Apple's iSync. I have reviewed the list of compatible devices and scanned the forums for related topics.
I'm still left wondering:
What is the best phone to get with AT&T for use with iSync?
I would like to sync contacts both ways. If possible, syncing cal events and to-dos would be nice, but not as important as contacts.
I prefer small flip phones. I don't plan to buy the Media pack service that includes text, web, etc. Instead, I will use the phone for calls and occassional text messages.
Sound quality and the ease of use are the most important features for me. I prefer raised keys to the flat keypads, but could give on this if need be.
Finally, using the phone as a modem with my laptop would be nice, but is not essential.
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
David

I am facing the exact same question regarding, e.g., the Nokia 6126. There are several references:
1. Go to the Nova Media web site and look at their new product, Fone Link. Or their iSynch Plugins
2. One of the forum threads references, http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060915154526806
3. Another link I found http://soapbox.co.nz/past/2007/4/9/nokia-6126-and-isync-revisited/
But what I don't yet understand is whether or not any of these suggestions/solutions are affected by the carrier. My understanding is that the 6126 is the North America Version of the 6131. But I talked to ATT/Cingular support yesterday and they make some modifications to the phone software. They don't know if the ATT 6126 will synch with a Mac. Of course they know the answer if synching with a PC (!!)

• Is there a large, clear desk pad suitable for use with the Magic Mouse?

My well-loved Magic Mouse will not track on my clear, 36" X 24" desk pad and, thus, I'm looking to replace it with a clear desk pad at least as large, but suitable for use with the Magic Mouse. Currently, I'm using an extra-large Wowpad for my mouse. Would a clear, matte desk pad work as well as the Wowpad with my Magic Mouse, or must I continue to use the Wowpad and seperate desk pad? All suggestions grartefully accepted!

This will be possible once improved sharing and collaboration are released. This will be soon by is not yet available. You will see several threads in the forums of customers requesting folder sharing. Folder sharing will be one part of it, but also there will be private sharing with specific individuals.
Currently you can only share individual files and the shared url is public.

Hi Robert and welcome to Apple Discussions,
There are adapters available that convert micro cards into fullsize ones.
You will also need a USB card reader if you do not have one.
Good luck,

• Irratic magic mouse behavior: Left handed user

Hello,
I have a magic mouse that I use on the left-hand side of my MacBook Pro and experience irratic mouse behavior and unexpected jumpiness - i.e. while working on a PowerPoint presentation, the screen jump to a different slide even when I'm not touching the mouse. The screen often jumps on its own even if I'm not typing or using the magic mouse. I've tried several fixes, including:
Setting up my preferences to Ignore trackpad when mouse is present
Setting up my preferences to Scrolling without intertia
Tryinf a couple of apps (Mountain Tweeks and MagicPrefs)
I'm wondering if my continued issues have to do with the fact that I'm using the mouse on the same side that I plug in my computer power cord and speakers.
I've search extensively for a solution to this issue and have been unable to solve it. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi shelleyfromely,
The article below may be able to help you with this issue.
Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots.
I've quoted some helpful highlights for you:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
If the "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" option is not enabled in the Bluetooth System Preferences, the Bluetooth icon will not display in the menu bar. Enable this option in System Preferences, then check the status of the Bluetooth icon in the upper right menu bar. If the Bluetooth icon does not appear in the menu bar, restart your computer.
Slide the On/Off switch on the bottom of your mouse to turn it on. Note: If the battery compartment cover is not installed properly the On/Off switch may not function correctly or may be difficult to operate. Remove the battery compartment cover and carefully reinstall it.
When your mouse is on and paired, and the batteries are charged, the indicator light glows steadily.
Check preferences
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences, then choose Bluetooth from the View menu. The Bluetooth preferences pane will list the Bluetooth devices paired with the computer, the status of the devices (paired or connected), and whether Bluetooth power is on or not.
Click the gear icon and choose "Connect" to connect a device that is powered on.
Keyboard or mouse intermittently stops responding
Click the mouse
Click the mouse once to reconnect it with your Mac. It may take a moment for the mouse to respond.
Check the battery level of the mouse. Choose System Preferences from the Apple (), then choose Mousefrom the View menu. The battery level indicator is in the lower-left corner. Replace the batteries if they are low.
Check for signal interference
Wireless networks that operate on 2.4GHz may cause interference.
Move cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other 2.4GHz electrical devices away from the Mac if you suspect interference.
Keep wireless devices within 10 meters (33 feet) of the Mac.
Avoid putting metal objects between the device and the Mac.
Mouse does not track as expected (jittery, jumpy, slow, fast).
The Apple Wireless Mouse can be used on most smooth surfaces, however if tracking issues occur try these options:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from the View menu. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse.
Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.
Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present.
If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices could affect tracking.
I hope this information helps ....
Have a great day!
- Judy

• Where to find names for buttons and toolbars for use in userChrome.css?

I'm trying to change the layout of the new beta 8 browser, I would like to put the tab bar up into the title bar. The only problem with this is that the Home button and the New Tab button then stop working. I know that the Home button is called "home-button" but I don't know what the new tab button is called. I was merely wondering if there was a way of finding this out at all and if so how I would go about it.
Thanks.

Yes, you need to inspect a Chrome window.
The DOM Inspector (DOMi) has a menu item (Search > Select Element By Click) and a button to "Find a node to inspect by clicking on it" (left icon on the toolbar).
You first need to open the browser window in the DOMi (File > Inspect Chrome Document) and choose the first from the list or choose the window that you want to inspect if you ave opened more.
Click the Find button and use the keyboard (Alt Tab) or the Task bar to go back to the browser window (do not click in the browser window).
Click that element with the mouse and keep the button pressed until you see a red border to indicate the the DOMi has located that element in the DOM tree.
• HP Pavilion dv6-1360us Entertainment PC power button broken, power button board removed for use.

After working on my wife's laptop for the last week and not being able to find &quot;the&quot; solution online, let alone a pic of the power button board. I thought I'd try to share my shortcut with anyone that can benefit from it and hopefully avoid unnecessary repairs and costs. Of course we don't want even more money going to HP for no reason.<br><br>The problem:<br>My wife was messing with our dog and a little pop splashed on and under the left front of the laptop. This was near the power button and underneath near the ram cover and vents. We unplugged the laptop and removed the battery as soon as I'd learned what happened. We dried it as best we could and after awhile started it back up. It started for shorter and shorter periods of time until it wouldn't start at all. I spent the next couple days trying all the forum solutions like holding the power button down, removing and inserting the battery and power supply ...blah, blah , blah. Eventually I came across somebody talking about the power button board. At this point the laptop with the battery only did nothing and had no lights, noise ...nothing. If the power supply was plugged in we had a light next to the plug and a front left panel light on. If the battery was removed and it was only the power supply we had only the light next to the power supply input. Everything i found said it was the motherboard or GPU. I feared the worst lol. I took it part for the 4th time and looked at the power button board and noticed the side of the power button itself had cracked all the way through. I decided i would try and start it without the power button board or cable connected instead of the shorting out process blogs were talking about.<br><br>The solution:<br>I removed the DVD drive, hard drive, ram, keyboard, bezel and hard drive then 1 by 1 added the DVD drive, ram, hard drive ...etc. and each time used the remote control to power on the laptop. It worked!!! Eventually I had everything back together with the power button board and cable completely removed and the laptop was up and running. I put some superglue on the cracked power button and plan to order a new power button board and cable along with a new bezel and power button if necessary but for now we've got everything working and all the important files she was working on at the time have been recovered. I did pull the hard drive the first day and put it in a portable USB shell and copy all the files to our backup drive. Anyway if the same kind of things are happening to yours at least you won't have to go thru everything i did. Good luck and i probably won't be back very often if at all to reply to any questions or to be told how i could've done it easier/more efficiently.<br><br>Power2dapeeps! lol

Hi,
Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
IDT Audio Driver - Windows 7.
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again and check if the mute led now changes colour correctly.

• AP recommendation for use with Nortel POE switch

Okay, so the 1130AG apparently won't work with a Nortel 460-24T-PWR switch using POE.
I can't necessarily replace the switches, so I have to write off the AP and try another one.
What model APs will work with a Nortel 460-24T-PWR switch.
Thanks.
Rick

This seems confusing to me. We use the HP 2650-PWR, which is also 802.11af and it works fine. Have you tried disabling CDP on the ports you want to use with the AP?

• Best WebCam for Linux to use with JMF

I am searching for a webcam for linux to stream video using jmf.
I have tried and used Logitech messanger, express, quickcam, and also Creative labs Ex Pro 5.
Each time I buy a another quickcam, Logitech changes the CCD. and the old drivers I use stop working.
Anybody have a well supported Linux WebCam with Linux drivers that they would like to share on how good of succes they have???

Hi,
Our project uses a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000. It doesn't seem to have any problems. We are running Redhat Linux 9.0. Basically, I think that any camera that will work with Linux should work with Linux.
We also tried an Intel Home PC Camera, but that didn't work...

• How to configure DSN in Linux for use in Essbase?

Hello everyone,
Can anyone help me out about how to create a DSN in Linux to load data from Oracle into Essbase?
Configuration:
Oracle 10g R2 installed on the same box as Essbase (11.1.1.1)
OS: RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.0

I am no expert on this subject, mind you, but I did recently work with Oracle support regarding an ODBC issue. My issue was primarily with a Teradata ODBC connection, but while we were looking at the .odbc.ini, he helped me fix my Oracle connection as well.
He mentioned that we were connecting with the 'Oracle Wire Protocol', and my Oracle ODBC description in .odbc.ini looks like below. I'm not sure what all the entries are, but I do know that Driver, Hostname, SID, and Portnumber are mandatory (there may be other mandatory entries as well, should be some documentation somewhere on it)
Here is my .odbc.ini definition for an Oracle Wire Transfer database connection
