Switch off screen while DVD Studio Pro works

I want to encode a DVD overnight with my iMac G5 but somehow DVD Studio Pro seems to override the energy settings.
Even though the display is set to turn off after 1 minute it doen't... ever...
The great shortcut I have found in this forum Option Apple Eject puts the whole computer in sleep, not just the screen. At least my DVD encoding was stuck at 11% for the hour I tried this.
The script I have found in this forum which sets energy save to 1 minute does not help either, as energy save does not work with DVD Studio Pro...
How can I solve this problem.
Thanks
Whodany

a partial fix, however, is to set the program to background encode, then i think you could just leave the program idling overnight with no problems with the power saving, and it should have encoded enouth overnight to make burning nice and quick in the morning

  • Video won't play in DVD Studio Pro, works in QT

I cannot get a m2v file to work in DVD studio pro. I compressed to Best Quality 120 min from FCP and opened up the DVD studio file and inserted both the m2v and ac3 files from Compression when it was finished. I can hear the audio but the video is just black. The video plays in the finder and in Quicktime Pro. I saved these two compression files over previous files because I was just updating the video and wanted to use the same DVD studio pro file I had already designed. I am re-compressing as I type this but if it still doesn't work I am at a loss of what to do!

Does the m2v asset preview in DVDSP? If it does you may need to rebuild the track that it's in.

  • Output Audio from DVD Studio Pro works on some DVD's but not others

    Hello All,
Would really appreciate any help here.
My project in final cut pro 6 has audio and it plays fine on the computer as well as the dvd studio pro simulator. I send the final cut pro file to compressor and then to dvdsp to burn. Everything works fine except when I play it in some dvd players I get no sound. I have another dvd player that plays everything with no problem. This is a big problem as I can't determine what kind of player a client has.
Is there something I need to fix in final cut pro, compressor or dvdsp?
Thanks a bunch in advance for any help anyone can provide.
    Please help. Thanks

What audio format did you use: AIFF or AC3?

No you can not do this; you can only turn off the Backlight.

  • What makes DVD Studio Pro work faster? and batching builds?

    Hi folks,
I've been using SP for years and finally have to ask - what makes it do the following faster:
    - importing m2v files
    - creating builds (muxing tracks etc...)
Is it a faster processor, RAM or multi-cores?
I have a 2009 quad 2.66 and I notice that the cores are barely being used.  I have 8 GB RAM.
I just find it takes a longer than expected time to build a 1 hour 45 SD DVD (approximately 9 minutes) .  I have the AC3 and M2V files and basic filmstrip menus.
Also, any way to batch builds?  Lately, I'm doing multiple disc transfers for clients and it would be great if I could set a batch and walk away instead of having to be here every 7-12 minutes to run a new build.  Not complaining per say, but trying to maximize workflow. Some projects take 45 minutes just to run the builds (although I will start burning as they are made).
    Cheers,
    Keebler

Thanks Brad. I may try compressor again.  The quality of Bitvice is better imho and I don't have to beg it to use all cores.
I can only get multiple machines going on 1 file then it crashes/locks up for any additional files.
So much that I even have still opened support calls with the FCP team.  I sure wish it worked for me.  Seems to be ok for others. Probably something silly I'm doing.

  • HD DVD: H264 does it work with DVD STUDIO PRO

I compressed a HD movie from FCP via COMPRESSOR using the HD DVD: H.264 setting, then made a HD DVD in DVD Studio Pro (1280 x 720). It played fine in the Simulator, but then I used Advanced Format & Burn to make a DVD to the Hard drive (img).
When it plays, the movies are jerky, like the movie is sticking or stuttering. I put the "img" on a Powerbook pro and it did the same thing. Does DVD Studio Pro work with the H.264? I noticed it did a conversion when the file was imported.

I am having the same problem. What was the solution?

  • FCE 4 And DVD Studio Pro

What versions of DVD Studio Pro work with FCE 4? My version of FCP has been rendered useless because of upgrading to Leopard, I had to have the iphone! I prefer to stick with DVD Studio Pro over iDVD.
    Thanks in advance!

Any version of DVDSP will work with FCE4. It's a standalone application, though it's no longer available outside of Final Cut Studio. It comes with Compressor, its own compression application.

  • Compressor/DVD Studio Pro v6 and FCP7?

Can I use Compressor and DVD Studio Pro from version 6 with FCP7?  I use a Macbook Pro 10.6.8 with FCP7
I'm trying to make a DVD and I keep getting a message in DVD Studio Pro : "Illegal angle situation. Only the main video angle will be simulated".
My sequence is in 1920x1080, Compressor: XDcam EX1080p25, Frame Rate 25.
I brought a self contained Quicktime into Compressor.
Selected Settings: DVD Best quality 90min.  The Inspector said:  720x576, PAL, 25,
Allow job segmenting was selected.  Should it be?
Frame Controls was ON.  Should it be?
It produced an MP-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass.m2v file and a DolbyDigital Professional 2.0.ac3 file
I dragged them on the Track1 screen in DVD Studio Pro 4 and the Simulator gave me the "illegal angle situation" message.
Do you have any idea for a solution please?  I have to fly out tomorrow and yo have the DVD done,,,

In a word, yes. As long as you are outputting your timeline as a master for compression, there is not linkage between FCP and Compressor/DVDSP.  Compressor and DVDSP don't care about anything except that the incoming footage is in a valid format.
I'm betting that your error message is the result of a corrupt DVDSP project file. They do some wacky stuff when they break. Built a new one.
    Good luck!

  • DVD Studio pro " Complier File Error"

MY DVD studio pro is no longer working, I get " Complier File Error " when I try to burn a disc. Will this have anything to do with using Mountion lion on my computor?  The DVD studio pro  works on my new pro mac. So what is wrong.
I did reload FCP 7 again and it uploads but will not work.

It will help if you cansupply more details. Are you encoding in Compressor? If so,what are the presets? Please post a screenshot.
    Thanks.

  • In DVD studio pro can you "toggle" subtitles ON/OFF so it shows on screen?

I have DVD Studio Pro 4.
I have an "extras" menu where I offer three subtitle options:
    English
    Spanish
    French
Can I show the user when he comes into that menu the current state of the subtitles.  Eg:
    English   ON
    Spanish  OFF
    French  OFF

I'm by no means a scripting expert in dvdsp, but I'm pretty sure you could create multiple menus each one reflecting which subtitle state is active.  You need to create a script that navigates to the correct menu depending on which subtitle state is active.    Scripting can seem daunting, but it's not as complicated as it initally seems.   The manual is a great resource.

  • Playback of DVD Studio Pro 4 built SD video file - Menu 1 screen is WHITE!!

I recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 with DVD Studio Pro 3 to FCS with DVD Studio 4. I have resolved a number of problems with the upgrade by reading "Apply Discussions", however, I need help with the following: When I import my mpeg2 and AC3 files into DVD SP4, I use the DVD SP4 palette to select an Apple Template for my MENU 1. (I like the "Theater Interior" menu template.) When I view the final product with the DVD SP4 simulator, everything is great including the colors in MENU 1. So, I build my program onto my desktop, the same way I did when I had DVD SP3. Now, the problem begins. When I view the built video TS file on my G5 Apple DVD player, or format it to a standard DVD-R with my pioneer 106D burner and play it back on my in-house DVD player, when the program MENU 1 is displayed on the monitor, it is WHITE in color. The menu is set to times out in 20 seconds. Once that happens, the programs runs perfectly. However, what's with the white menu screen? I can barely make out the buttons. When I click on a button, it operates and the color and program work perfectly from that point. I there an option to get rid of the white screen when the menu comes up? Somehow, when DVD SP4 builds the video file, MENU 1 is encoding with a white background rather than with the colors of the Apple template in use. This did not happen with DVD SP3. Can you help me?
    Ugene

try switching the menu encoding from software to hardware (or vice versa) in your DVDSP preferences and see if that makes a difference for you.

  • DVD Studio Pro overriding Energy Saving Settings - Screen always on

    Hello
I am a bit upset about DVD Studio Pro overriding the energy saving settings. It means if you do a serious render you will find yourself with the monitor on for hours and days. On the Imacs you can't even fully dim down the screen to switch it of manually.
I know about the possibility to do a background render. But it doesn't make sense to me that DVD Studio keeps the screen on. I don't see why I have to go crooked ways to have something very normal.
There is no need for DVD studio behaving like this, it only raises energy consumption unnecessarily.
I hope Apple will fix this or explain in reasonable ways why it does like this.
And is there maybe a way to hack DVD Studio in a way it doesn't behave like this, apart from doing the background render?
    Thanks

A common way to solve it is to download and install the proapplications support file:

It's not a guaranteed winner, but it has worked for countless folks.

  • Do DVD Studio Pro 2 templates work in 4?

    Hi,
I own a version of DVD Studio Pro 2, but was wondering if I bought 4, would these old templates still show up and work in it?

To get 4 you would need the whole Studio and usually it is a good idea to do a clean install of everything. You can move the DVD SP templates off and see if they work. I do not remember which ones carried forward at this time, but DVD SP 4 has many templates and I think they are pretty much the same.
I see you are using an Intel Mac, so heads up DVD SP 2 is not Universal Binary so if you run into issues that could be the problem. Same for the OS you are running.
Is there a reason you want to upgrade to 4? The upgrades and collection of software in the new Studio are a good jump if you are running older versions. (Motion Final Cut etc.)

  • Grey screen on final burned DVD, used Compressor and DVD Studio Pro 4

Trying to create a standard dvd from a 2 hour and 8 minute 720x480 mov file.  I have used compressor to create a mpeg2 as well as an ac3 audio file.  After looking at other posts, I feel that what i've done in compressor is ready to be imported into DVD Studio Pro.  I changed my preferences in DVD Studio Pro to support my mpeg2 and ac3 files coming in from compressor.  After I import, they import very quickly.  The playhead lets me scrub through the video fine, but when I go to the simulator, I get a grey screen.
I'm trying to output this file onto a dual layered Standard DVD.  The fact that my video was originally an HD mp4, converted into .mov  should not matter once it's converted into an mpeg2, correct?  Mpeg2 is the standard DVD format.
I've also messed with the markers in DVD Studio Pro because I've read that the Automatic settings for the "break layer point" are not that "Automatic" I've seen other posters saying to add markers in the gap where the DVD laser should switch from layer to layer, but still my output burned DVD and simulator remain a grey screen!. Please help, I've referred to many posts and I believe that I've done everything right except maybe one or two things. So Close! Help! Thanks!
