Switch OK, now can't play!

On Friday I used migration assistant to move all files from old iMac G-5 to new iMac. When I try to play the songs I get an alert that I am not authorized to play them on this (new) computer. I type in the ID and my new password, the same ones I used to get here, The next alert states that the authorization was successful; I then click OK. Now I go to a song, click to play it, and I am back to the same alert; I am not authorized. If I fill in the same items again I will get another alert '...not authorized..."with additional red type telling me that the account does not exist. Apple i-Tunes store has been no help, suggested I try here. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dave

Try de-authorising your old mac... You can only have 5 macs authorized at the same time...

does it play on your computer?
If not you cannot redownload audiobooks from the itunes store. So report it as a corrupted file to itunes store support

You may need to prepare yourself for a "World of Hurt" from your wife...
Since the average 0.9 megapixel JPEG photo file of normal graphic complexity stored at a high quality compression setting is 125-135 KBs in size, I would have to assume any QT video files you created of more than a fraction of a second in duration were most likely saved as "reference" files to only be 50-150 KBs. Basically, a reference file is q QT (MOV) file that tells a video player how to play data that is still stored in its original source file container(s). For instance, you could trim and merge a number of files together and save the result as a "reference" file that takes up very little room on your hard drive. Or, you could post fles to a server and create a "reference" file that is small enough to be sent as an email attachment that plays the uploaded data on someone else's computer as long as they are connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, for these reference files to work, all of the resources referenced within the file must continue to exist in their proper locations in order to be found and played by the reference. Since you did not indicate what "but they won't play" really means here or how you actually "moved" your iPhoto library files to the external drive, I can only make some "educated guesses" at this point. (BTW: for future reference, iPhoto has a built-in function that allows you to copy your library to one or more back-up locations and then connect to them by default when iPhoto opens or switch source libraries at will within the opened application.)
If you created reference files and saved them to an external drive, you should be getting an error message telling you the app needs to know where the source files are located so the reference file can re-connect to the resource data. If the original files were also saved, then simple navigate to the source files in oder to tell the app where they are now located. If the source files were deleted as part of the reformatting process, then you are up the proverbial creek whithout a paddle with little or no hope of doing anything about this issue. (I.e., reformatting and then re-installing a system drive usually means you would have little hope of recovering the specific "lost" data you want as there is always a good chance that some of the data segments were overwritten during the process.)

  • I emptied trash with itunes in it accidentally and now can't play any songs on itunes what can i do?

so i needed to clear disk space so i could use imovie more, so i put a load of stuff in trash and emptied it, but somehow i stupidly put itunes there too, so now when on itunes i can't play any songs because it keeps asking me to "Locate" it, which i can't do because it doesn't exist anymore arrrggh! i can't use any of my songs on imovie either, it's very frustrating. If there is any way at all that i could recover the songs so i could play them on itunes then that would be great-
    thanks,

    Hi,
If you don't have a back up, you have lost your music.
If you have iTunes Store purchases, you can go into iTunes Store and redownload previous purchases.

  • Transferred songs and now can't play songs

I just transferred some purchased songs from my computer onto my son's computer using my iPod. His computer and mine are both authorized to play the songs. I can play the songs on his computer in iTunes, but can't play anything (including songs I imported from CDs) on my computer! When I click on a song to play it, it lists at the top of iTunes, but won't play!
    Any ideas?

Just realized that something was wrong the sound on my system, not iTunes!

  • Changed e-mail associated and now can't play anything

I recently changed my e-mail from a very old hotmail account to a gmail account. I did this through my iTunes account management. After changing my e-mail I can not play anything that was purchased before. This has affected many season passes and music that I have downloaded and need to know if there is a way to fix this. I tried to de-authorize and then re-authorize my computer, but that didn't work. Changing the e-mail back to my old one also did not work. Anyone have any ideas, or did I just lose out on a lot of money? I would assume that it is my apple ID, not my e-mail that the purchases would go by. When I look in my account history it still shows all of my purchases. Thanks!

I took the drastic step of reformatting the drive. You need a day to do it for back up of all your files, planning how to reload the software, and of course an operating system disk. Luckily I had that as the recovery disks didn't work. You also need to know where to get the drives when the recovery disks don't work and the sony download taxi did the trick.

  • Switched to .Mac, now can't play music...

My AT&T email account was going away, so I bought .Mac and changed my Apple ID in iTunes to my new .Mac email address. Now when I try to play music (purchased under the old email), I keep getting a username and password prompt, with the old email address as default. When I enter the old password, it tells me that account doesn't exist any more. When I enter the new email address and password, it tells me how many machines are authorized, but attempts to play songs still come up with a login.
I thought I was supposed to be able to change my iTunes ID. What can I do now?

Yeah...that happened to me too one time. I had to restore the ipod and it worked fine afterwards. I don't know if there's another solution but at least restoring it works.

  • Bought song on my Mac, now can't play it on my PC - HELP!

Okay so through my iTunes at work on my Mac, I bought a bunch of songs. Now I have the songs in iTunes on my PC at home and when I click on them it says that I am not authorized to play the song. So I enter in my user name and password, it says it has authorized it (1 out of 5 allowed authorizations), but STILL won't play! The e-mail that pops up in the authorize window is my work e-mail address that I used a long time ago when I started using iTunes. (by the way, the songs play fine on my iPod). I have since changed it to my home e-mail--and that is the one that lets me authorize it. It says it's authorized, then when I go to play it, the window pops up again with my work e-mail id. So when I went to do a search for the password for my work e-mail (thinking that maybe i just forgot what it was since it was a long time ago), it tells me that that id is not valid. What is the deal? Does it have something to do with mac>pc? How can I get around this?
    Thanks for any insight!

I can find the flders I had there.
You mean you can't find the folders you had there?
What folders? Email folders? iDisk folders?
If iDisk folders, iDisk doesn't exist in iCloud. You should've backed up anything in your iDisk before migrating to iCloud. You can still access iDisk until it is shut down by logging back into MobileMe in System Preferences.

  • Downloaded DivX codec, now can't play MJPG

    Hi,
I've raised this with the DivX folks, but I wanted to see if it's a known issue. I downloaded the latest DivX community codec (6.6.0) and I can play .AVI DivX movies fine now, but when I try to load up some of my old movies taken with an old digital camera, Quicktime Player refuses to start up. (The older movies are MJPG format with araw audio stream.) Removing DivX Decoder.component from /Library/Quicktime allows me to open and play my old movies with no problme.
Are there known problems with this codec, or a workaround other than removing the codec when I don't need it? Is it a problem with Quicktime Player or the codec? I'm on a G5 iMac with OS X 10.3.9.
    Thanks,
    Montreal
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You seem to have answered your own question.
Third party software added to QuickTime can cause issues.
And AVI should have died 8 years ago. Those that use that container are only doing so because it really doesn't have any "standards".

  • Upgrade to iTunes 8 and now can't play movies

I updated from iTunes 7. something to 8 and can no longer play DVD's using PowerDVD or WMP. I can't even see the disk drive under My Computer. I did a system restore on my HP laptop and could play movies again but when I tried to open iTunes the the library had been updated and couldn't be read by older versions of iTunes.
I need to either figure what iTunes 8 did to my system or find a way to convert my library back to form that is usable by an older version of iTunes that will play nice with my laptop.

That error message used to appear with an old version of iTunes and I think it was Quicktime related:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307020
Just guessing here, but this is what I suggest:
I would remove iTunes and related programs using the following method:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then follow the advice about removing old versions of iTunessetup in the first link. Clear your temporary internet files.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes - saving it on your desktop and running it from there.

  • I recently installed Java 6 update 33, and adobe flash player 11 plugin, and now can't play any videos from any website in Mozilla, but Google Chrome works.

Cannot play any video from any website in Mozilla after installing Java 6 update 33, and adobe flash player 11 plugin. However, I can play videos from Google Chrome and also from Internet Explorer. For example, when I'm trying to play a you tube video in Mozilla, a black screen comes up with following error message: "An error has occurred. Please try again later."
(This is like the Wizard of Oz -- when the man comes to the little window in the door and says to Dorothy, "Come back tomorrow." )

This may be caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update.
