Switch Oracle user (Oracle 11g Win 2003)
Hi guys,
How do I switch between users on windows
Unix: su - ora11g
Windows:
Thank you.
hi try this:--
You can switch users from the Windows Command Prompt without logging off—if say,
you need to access folders or files for another Windows user account.
1. Quit explorer.exe
2. Open Command Prompt
3. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32
4. Enter the following command: runas /user:*computer name\*account name explorer.exe
Make sure you are cognizant of which user is logged in because this process
will not change the Windows theme when the user changes
thanks.

Installing Oracle 11gR2 32bit on Win 2003 R2 server virtualized in Hyper-v
I have here 2008 server 64bit with Hyper-V and inside the virtualized server 2003 R2 32bit to install oracle!!
The installation goes normal but in the end when you create the database the following message appears:
ORA-03113 end-of-file on communication channel error
or
ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error
These machines are all in domain
Hyper-V with 3 GB
Logged in with administrator privileges
NONE put in the file sqlnet.ora
Forgot something?
Can anyone help?
ThanksThank Madrid
I'm using DBCA tool!
It is the moment of creation of database errors that occur!
Looking at the documentation under +'Check the Software Requirements'+
Note: Check My Oracle Support (formerly OracleMetaLink) for more information about Hyper-V support
Is it so complicated to install oracle in Hyper-V?
Is there anything else that might help?
Thanks -
ORA-04031-----capture aborat in stream in oracle 10g R2 in win 2003
Hi Experts,
Error Message ORA-04031: unable to allocate 116 bytes of shared memory ("streams pool","unknown object","streams pool","kolcalm coll")
I got this message for capture ABORTED. my sga_target and sga_max as 1880M. Do I need to increase their size? stream pool size as 880. shared_pool_reserved_size as 14M.
Based on oracle document for this error message:
Action: If the shared pool is out of memory, either use the dbms_shared_pool package to pin large packages, reduce your use of shared memory, or increase the amount of available shared memory by increasing the value of the INIT.ORA parameters "shared_pool_reserved_size" and "shared_pool_size". If the large pool is out of memory, increase the INIT.ORA parameter "large_pool_size".
Key point: we use asm to control. it include share_pool and large_pool. Do we need to increase share pool size?
Or we need to take other steps to handle this point.
Thanks for help!!
regards
Jim

Enterprise manager 11g - win 2003 - sys/passwd error
We have windows 2003 server and we are running 2 oracle databases in
version 11g.
We were successfully configured EM for one database and when we tried for the other database we encountered configuration errors and the log file doesnt carry that much info for me to understand the error. I searched on google and was able to find one solution, which stated that the ocijdbc11.dll was overlooked and ocijdbc10.dll is needed to fix the issue." It was a bug". I tried the solution and it worked, however the emca command ended saying cannot start dbcontrol. Went through the log and found DBCONTROL created and secured.
So manually restarted DBCONTROL, it started well.
I opened the page and tried logging in using sys/passwd as sysdba, it didnt allow me in.
I even deconfigured and configured again. i got the same error.
Can anybody suggest what would be the cause and solution or work
around for this.
Thank you

Hi Guys,
I have 2 instances running on 1 database. How do I move between the 2
On solaris this is what I'll do: export ORACLE_SID=newsid
set ORACLE_SID=newsid
On Windows what to do?hi,
You set the oracle_sid and connect to db- it will let u know whether connected to "idle instance" or not - that provides the information for your whether instance is up and running or not.
Other options would be
1. Check Task Manager for the ORACLE.EXE process. If it is present, then the service started.
2. Check the Alert Log for the database. If the problem is not with the database, there will be no indication in the log that the database even tried to start.
3. Check the oradim.log in the $ORACLE_HOME/database directory for errors. Check the date on the log file as versions before 9i did not date/time stamp the entries.

Oracle user can't see all files in a folder. Why?
I've installed oracle 10g (32 bit) in Oracle EL (32 bit). When I attempt to start the database from the oracle user, it throws the following error:
ORA-01078:failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109:could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/initorcl.ora'
As an oracle user I checked the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and found these two files visible:
initdw.ora & init.ora
But as root user i found the following files existing in the directory:
hc_orcl.dat, initdw.ora, init.ora, lkORCL.ora, orapworcl & spfileorcl.ora
echo $ORACLE_SID returns the value as "orcl".
I followed the possible issues from the following thread:
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
and
http://mohamedazar.com/2010/04/27/ora-01078-failure-in-processing-system-parameters/
but since the files are not visible for the user, but available to the root, what are the possible solutions that I should try for?Hi Alvaro,
I've given full permissions to the user

Linux non-oracle user cannot connect to database using TNS
LS,
I've installed Oracle 11gR2 on a linux box (name="ilmserver") running CentOS 5.4 (based on RHEL).
Created user "oracle" and groups "oinstall" and "dba".
Installation under user "oracle" went fine, and logged in as "oracle" user I can - naturally - access the database easily (via SQL+, or using SQL Developer it works via Basic, TNS, and Advanced (=jdbc)).
I have a second user on the linux box called "informatica", on which I have installed Informatica ILM 5.3.2, which uses the Oracle database as its repository.
The "informatica" user has been granted the same groups as the "oracle" user, i.e. "oinstall" and "dba".
I have severe problems accessing the Oracle database as the "informatica" user.
Using SQL Developer I can access the database using the "Basic" method, but not TNS.
But guess what: for ILM to work to its fullest extent I need to implement an environment variable called TNS_ADMIN.
I have implemented it, it sits in bash_profile and as such works fine:
+[informatica@ilmserver ~]$ echo $TNS_ADMIN+
+/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin+
But as for being able to access it:
+[informatica@ilmserver ~]$ cat $TNS_ADMIN/tnsnames.ora+
cat: /home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora: Permission denied
Somehow I thought that granting "oinstall" group to "informatica" user would take care of this. Obviously it doesn't. I also granted "dba" group to "informatica", to no avail apparently.
This is then - I assume - also the reason that when I want to connect using TNS from within SQL Developer, the dropdown list is empty (because it's not able to read TNSNAMES.ORA).
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Thanks heaps!
Cheers, PatrickJust ran all+ commands for oracle user:

Naturally the "oracle" user has full access to its own directories.
A thought just occurred to me. I assume that theoretically it's possible to grant read privilige to informatica user on all these directories... would that do the trick?
But even if so, makes me wonder whether that is "best practice".
Also, I cannot imagine I'm the first person to encounter this scenario, and therefore there must be some standard approach to enable this.
Any suggestions/thoughts?
As for the TNSNAMES.ORA suggestion, I guess that is possible. Makes administration of TNSNAMES a bit more cumbersome though, as in, 2 files to maintain... risk of getting out of sync when making 'quick and dirty' changes without thinking things through too much (which shouldn't happen... but sometimes does anyway).
I'd prefer a solution where "informatica" has genuine access to TNSNAMES.ORA.
Thanks, Patrick
ps the bold bits with env.var LS_COLORS are unintentional, but don't know how to turn that off -

Install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003 server
Hello,
Is it possible to install Oracle SQL* Net 2.3(16 bit) Client on Windows 2003 server. If it is then could someone give me links from where I could get more information on this (like the steps to install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003).
Thanks.the 16-bit applications are not supported by Windows 2003 server x64 edition.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=896458&SD=tech
I have never tried to use 16-bit SQLNet client on Windows 2003 x86. I'm pretty sure that this combination will not be supported by Oracle , athough it could work.
As far as I remember the 2.3 client was shipped with the Oracle 7.3.
here is the desupport notice for Oracle 7

Hello
Background:
We had Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 32-bit EE on Windows 2003 32-bit EE and now migrated to 64-bit (both OS and DB) and everything worked brilliantly ok except...
Problem:
We used to be able to connect to an external application (Postcode Plus from AFD) via extproc to search postcodes / addresses etc. However, after the migration getting the error:
ORA-06520: PL/SQL: Error loading external library
ORA-06522: Unable to load DLL
The listener.ora and tnsnames.ora configuration as exactly same as what we had on 32-bit machine (except the host name).
For convenience, I've attached both here:

Questions:
1. Does extproc for Oracle 64-bit 11.1.0.7 on Win 2003 64-bit load 32 bit DLL?
2. When searched got a quite of lot link about extproc32 (for all versions of UNIX), but not for Windows and found this link Extproc32 installation Does that mean it is not possible to load 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows installation?
3. Is there any workarounds? Or am I stumped so I should now go back and reinstate the 32-bit installation?
Any input / recommendation is appreciated!!
Regards
KannanDoes that mean it is not possible to load 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows installation?Yes,it's not possible, refer to MOS/metalink:

Oracle 9i release 2 for Win 2003 Server 32 bit
From the Oracle download site, do I need to download Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP 32 bit before administering the Release 2 for Win 2003 Server. (approx. 180 Meg)
Interesting. I've been using APEX 3.2 with Firefox 3.5 for several months now without any issues and I know several other developers doing the same. Can you test it from another client machine to see if it's something with the PC or the install of Firefox? You might also try [a href="http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable"]Firefox 3.5 Portable[a], as it will basically give you a clean, fresh install of 3.5 without uninstalling your current 3.5. Just make sure you close all instances of Firefox before you start up the portable one.
On a totally unrelated note, just wanted to make sure you know the 9.2 is no longer a supported database (unless you pay for extended support) and the upcoming 4.0 release of APEX will not work with 9.2 at all.
