Switch stack for a Cisco 3750x

I have the stack working and provisioned and it shows Gi1/0/1-48 for switch 1 and Gi2/0/1-48 for switch 2.  My question is how can i reprovision the stack to make switch 2 be Gi1/0/1-48 and switch 1 be Gi2/0/1-48?

You need to pull the stack apart, renumber each stack member and reboot all the units.

  • Cisco 3750x switch. Turning off a port at night

    Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding power management for the Cisco 3750x Switches. Is it possible to power down switch ports
automatically at a specific time and if so how. I would like several Ports to be powered down between 2 and 3 o clock at night.
Can anyone tell me how i can realise this? (these switches have Energie Wise capabilities)
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Wouter Platteeuw

    few things to try:
Go to your email setup, go to the account in question, go to filters, Check the box that says "do not forward messages to the device" Set this back to the default if this doesn't work.
Something else:  try using the blackberry firewall
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB23877
I think this will block all email though, but you can take a look at the options.

  • Etherchannel two cisco 3750 stacks for iscsi?

I have two sites connected by 96 strands of fibre. At each site I have an IBMv7000 relicating to the other one. For iSCSI traffic I have two Cisco 3750 switches, each are in 2 switch stack.
SAN A                         Fibre Link                          SAN B
            |                                                                        |
    Cisco Stack A =========================Cisco Stack B
            |                                                                        |
            |                                                                        |
    iSCSI Clients                                                       iSCSI Clients
My question: Is it ok to connect the the two stacks with etherchannel using the fibre links? Will is provide the necessary redundancy, if one of the interfaces goes down?

What model numbers of 3750 are you using?
What is the distance between the stacks as this will dictate your fiber run modules.

  • Unable to hard code the ports of cisco 3750x series switch

    hello,
I have tried with hardcode to 1000 7 Full on the ports which are connected to another switch.
After changing the port to auto from one side of the switch port came up. Is there any solution to make port up when both sides are hard coded to 1000 & full duplex.
    Simple Words:
    Switch 1 --> Switch 2 --> Hard coded to 1000 & Full --> Down.
Switch 1 --> Switch 2 --> Auto on one end to Switch 1  --> Up.
    Switch model:
Switch 1 Cisco 3750x (Gi Switch)
Switch 2 Cisco 3750 (Gi Switch)
    Regards,
    Ezra.

Yes, it's possible without a straight through cable, enable auto/auto both sides.    Otherwise you'll need a cross-over cable.
BTW, if your standard is hard coding copper gig ports, for speed and duplex, you might consider bringing your standard up to date.  Copper gig standard went much further in how auto/auto is supposed to work.  By disabling auto/auto, I believe, you're also disabling some error monitoring too.  Generally, all the major players, e.g. Cisco, would recommend auto/auto for copper gig Ethernet.

  • Cisco 3750x 24 port poe switch failure

what is the chance of cisco 3750x 24 port poe switch failure? is backup necessary for this ? please answer me in details.

If you have a Cisco switch with, at least, one faulty port you RMA the appliance.
There is nothing more detailed than that.

  • Stacking a non-Cisco Switch with a Catalyst Express 500 switch

We are using a Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Ethernet switch and need to add another switch to get a few more ports. Is is possible to stack a Catalyst Express 500 Ethernet switch with a non-Cisco Ethernet switch. If so, is there any Cisco documentation telling how to do this?

If by stack, you mean connect the two switches via Ethernet ports, yes you should be able to do that. Depending on the port capabilities of the switches, and whether they have any special uplink ports, you might need to use a different Ethernet connecting cable (cross-over vs. straight thru).

  • Can you Connect Cisco switch modules for to N2K?

I have not seen anything about connecting Cisco Switch modules for Blade Chassis to fex.  Does anybody now if you can do that?
    thank you.

    thank you Lucien.
I think you got a right name for N2Ks, a NIC card extender.  In my opion N2K should be able to support Blade switches. Not every company has just rack mount servers, most enviroment is mixed. In my case, I run out ports on N5K, but plenty available on N2K.  I want add two more blade centers with gig switch modules in them. now I have to buy a N5K!!!.  I'm sure Cisco can make N2K to support switches too.

  • Snmp for 3750 switch stack

    Hi,
I have two 3750 switch stack together with one ip address mange the stack.
Can I monitor the memory and cpu for each individual switch? what is the oid then?
    Thanks.
    C.K.

    Hello CK,
On the Catalyst 3750, the stack master handles the SNMP requests and traps for the whole switch stack.
The stack master transparently manages any requests or traps that are related to all stack members. When a new stack master is elected, the new master continues to handle SNMP requests and traps as configured on the previous stack master, assuming that IP connectivity to the SNMP management stations is still in place after the new master has taken control.
So to answer your question, with the OID for CPU and Mempory usage the switch will return only values for the active master. The other stack members are hot standby and do not produce SNMP information for CPU and/or Memory.

  • "Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3020 for HP" Best Practices

    Hi all,
Here we use this blade switch cluster for the Data Center server farm. Here we noticed some network traffic delay. when I monitor the up link I can see there is not much traffic in the link. So doubt about the traffic delay. If anyone can help me on this it would be great...
    Thanks in Progress.....
    Chandana

Here in the "blade switch for HP" a request processing application is running in a server. when we use the same type server stand alone with a separate switch it processes 80,000 requests per 4 hours. But when this blade server in the blade switch it only processes near 6,000 requests per 4 hours.
That what I mean like "Network delay"...
That is what I cannot understand.
I have attached the current configuration of the blade switch so you can go through it.
Is there any best practices specific to that type of blade switch that should enable?
    Thanks for your help
    regards
    Chandana

  • Can't write to flash1: in a 3 switch stack

I have a 3 switch stack at a remote office consisting of a 48 port 3750X, 24 port 3750X PoE, and a 48 port 3750v2.  Currently this stack is functioning normally and is running 12.2(55)SE3 (universal on the X's, ipservices on the 3750v2).  I want to upgrade to SE8 so that's 12.2(55)SE8 as I see in the release notes there are some vulnerabilities fixed in SSH.
For the life of me, I cannot copy the new file to flash1: which is the 24 port 3750X PoE.  This switch has 20 IP phones and 2 Cisco Access points on it and is vital to the branch office.  I have spare non poe switches but not spare poe switches (looking for approval), so go figure I am having the issue with the flash memory on this switch.
If I try to tftp the file c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE8.bin to flash1, I get Error opening flash1:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE8.bin (Bad file number).
I can get the file tftp'd to flash2 (the 48 port 3750X) fine, but if I try to copy it from flash2 to flash1, I get the same error (bad file number).
Cisco TAC reccomened format flash1: , so I tried that and get Error formatting flash1 (Device or resource busy).   OK so on my own I figure maybe its corrupt, lets run fsck /test flash1: and see.  NOPE can't run that either... Error fscking flash1: (Device or resource busy).   Ok now lets see if any other sessions are hung where something or someone has locked flash1... so I run systat and I am the only user on the switch stack.  Ok so no one else has a hung connection that may have had a write in process frozen.
So what should I do?  The uptime is 30 weeks, 23 hours, 3 minutes.  The last switch in the stack, the regular 3750v2 has an uptime of 15 weeks, 1 day, 20 hours, 28 minutes because it was added to the stack back then.
Anyway the network is fine and functioning... just looking to standardize all our 3750's to the 122-55.SE8 release because it is the one IOS that we've had the best luck with.

Well after a few days of SILENCE from Cisco TAC, they got back to me again and said to reseat the flash again!  I said tell me how to reseat the flash when it is soldered onto the motherboard of a 3750X switch?
So they responded with this and they are going to replace the switch:
The error message( Error opening flash1:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE8.bin (Bad file number)) indicates that the flash is not visible,
This issue can be solved by the following steps :
Reseat the flash if you cannot,
Format the flash if you cannot,
    Replace the device(hardware failure)
As I can see from this case that the device is unable to format the flash, the only way to solve the issue is to replace the switch 1,
I can tell you support has really gone downhilll.  So much that I am considering Extreme Networks, Arista and Broacade for an upcoming 10gbps switching project.  Another case we had with them was due to a random switch stack crash on 12.2.58SE2.  Well they had the entire show tech ouput and they still reccomended to move to 15.0.2SE4.  Well that was BAD advice.  When you have 6 3750V2's and 3 3750X's in one stack of 9, release 15 doesn't have enough memory to even run a console.  We had to break the stack and one by one go to 12.2.55SE8.  I don't know what Cisco is thinking.  How can they say oh run this release but then they see its a huge mixed breed stack with a large configuration and they don't take memory into consideration?  I even asked are you sure, and they said yes we assure you this release will solve your problems.
So between that bad advice and this bad advice, I am really discouraged at throwing more money into "SmartNet" contracts.

  • Cisco 3750X redundency setup Query

My current network setup is shown in the attached file which is not completely redundant.
I am replacing the current EOL switches with new one Cisco Catalyst 3750X for L3.
What is the way to implement redundency for L3 switches? Is it using 2 L3 switches in a stack? Do I need any SFP ports/cables between the 2 L3 switches, or just cascade enough?

What is the way to implement redundency for L3 switches?
Each stack has two uplinks:  One to the primary 4006 and another to the secondary 4006.  Unfortunately, you can't use EtherChannel.  Both uplinks from the stack should not be from a single 3750X unit.
Is it using 2 L3 switches in a stack?
A minimum of two units of 3750X can perform a stack (or a mixture of 3750/3750G or 3750E).  Bear in mind that the entire stack should have the same IOS version and the same Feature Set or License set.
Do I need any SFP ports/cables between the 2 L3 switches, or just cascade enough? Ok, now this I don't understand.  Can you elaborate further?

  • Is power supply 3k-X 715W AC hot swappable on Cisco 3750X?

Is power supply 3k-X 715W AC hot swappable on Cisco 3750X?
    Thanks
    Diego

    Sorry, found the answer http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750x_3560x/hardware/installation/guide/3750x_3560x_HIG/HIGFRU.html
The power supply is hot-swappable. In some configurations, such as full PoE+ or power sharing mode, removing a power supply causes powered devices to shut down until the power budget matches the input power of a single power supply. To minimize network interruption, hot swap the power supply under these circumstances:
–The switch is connected to an XPS 2200 and sufficient power is available.
–The switch is in StackPower mode and sufficient power is available (Catalyst 3750-X only).
–The switch is powered by other switches in a power stack, and no active backup is in progress.
For the switch commands for displaying the available power budget, see the Catalyst 3750-X and 3560-X Software Configuration Guide.
