Switch to finder

How do I use automator to make a macro to switch to the finder? I have tried using automator to execute the script "switch to finder" but it runs without actually switching the active application. Using the launch application does not work because it doesn't list the finder as an application.

Under the Automator options choose:
"Run AppleScript"
Then replace "(* Your script goes here *)"
with:
"activate application "Finder""

  • All apps/programs switch to Finder on their own... buggy.

Hello guys and gals... It's a simple but awful problem. No matter what I'm doing on my computer, any program/app I'm using will randomly switch to Finder on (it just happened while I was typing) it's own.
At first I thought I activated a certain key command or was hitting a special area on my mouse. But now that I've experienced this issue for a few days, their is no consistency. My only (just did it again!) observation is that I need to be using the computer... if I'm simply listening to iTunes, it won't switch completely on its own, but if I'm surfing in Firefox or editing in Final Cut, it will switch once an hour up to every minute.
This isn't my Macbook BTW, it's a 11.4.11 G4 tower. (43GB HD space left) and I only have a few apps at a time open.
    Thanks for reading!

    Hi Monty,
It's likely some 3rd Party APP that got broken by the recent QT or Security update.
Stuffit AVR has been a big one, if you have that use the Pref Pane to turn it off, but others have been implicated too. Check System Preferences for a Stuffit Pref Pane and disable AVR.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it is some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Duet makes noise after switching between finder audio and Logic

    Hi
My Duet makes noise after switching between "finder audio" and "Logic", In other words i would play a mp3 in the finder and when returning to Logic all my audio sounds like the "lo-fi" RTAS free plug digidesign gives away now.
This is happening on a White *iMac 24"*
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B07
    SMC Version (system): 1.10f3
    MacOsx 10,5,7

Does this happen every single time? The same thing happens to me every once in a while. I just close Logic and Maestro and unplug the Duet. Then, in this order, plug in the Duet, wait for it to click, load Maestro, load Logic. Works every time.
Edit: It does only seem to happen when I switch from Logic and the audio output from the Duet to internal and then come back quickly. I don't think it's an issue with the Duet hardware itself.

  • Click on desktop background switch to find is very confusing

If you click the desktop background, the Finder becomes that active app even when there is no Finder windows anywhere on screen to be seen. The menu bar is switched to "Finder" but the user is completely unaware that their world inside their mac has completely changed but the screen look exactly the same to them: the shade of grey change to the active window is just not obvious. The problem is compounded for non-English user: the menu bar look the same to them: it just show "Picasa", "Preview", "Finder" in the app menu, not translated.
Is there anyway to disable click on background switch to Finder?

The Finder is your Desktop. They're one in the same. Sounds like you need to be using Mac OS 9 where all the apps had "application frames". Those were sad times indeed. Kidding, loved OS 9 when it was around.
Seriously though, no. Finder is always running. It's kind of like the visual, tangible link between the user and OS.
Or could you just stop clicking on the background?

    Hello Asokwah,
Sign out from your pple Id on your Device and Go to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ and then Sign In with your Apple Id here and Under your Primary Email Address click on Resend Next to Verification Email Sent. Now Go to your Email Account and Verify your Apple Id again by clicking in the Link inside the Mail that you might have received from Apple. Now Sign In on your Device and try to make a Purchase and if it is for the first time then you will be asked to Review your Account and if you have entered your Credit/Debit card in your Account then you will have to just Enter your 3 Digits CVV Number and then click on Done. And then you can try downloading any Application from AppStore or Music from iTunes Store and check if its working.

  • Os x 10.6.8 keeps switching to finder

My OS X 10.6.8 keeps spontaneously switching to finder every minute or two by itself.  For instance, I'll be working in Safari and it'll switch to finder and I'll have to click safari to get it to come back. No tech here, but would love to have some help.
    Thanks,
    Scott

I agree: the Finder must be crashing for some reason, and since it's an integral part of OS X, it automatically restarts after shutting down, hence the loss of focus in the application you're working on at the moment.
Have you tried to repair permissions, or even to just reboot your Mac in Safe Mode (by pressing the Shift key on reboot until you see the grey Apple backdrop AND progress bar)?

    Hi nikevans04,
I am sorry to hear that you lost your iPad Air 2. You will only see the last location if it has been off for less than 24 hours. Anything longer than that, it will not show up using the Find My feature. Take a look at the article below for more information.

My iphone 4s wilbecasue it says it needs activation (suddenly  it needs activating). So i can get to general settings. Itunes says switch off find my iphone which i did in icloud, it will not let me switch off find my phone.
I tried resetting in general reset all settings, but no luck.
    can anyone help

I'm also experiencing the same issue.
I've had to reset my password 3 times in the last 3 days.
At first, I couldn't get my email. I sweated it out for 12 hours, reset my password and I was good to go again. 48 hours later, I ran into the same issue. Only problem is, not only do I get the 'Incorrect username or password' on my device, but my iCloud.com login no longer works. so now I can't read my messages on the web OR on my device/computer.
I have went to appleid.apple.com and reset my password there: no luck.
I have reset the settings on my device: no luck.
I have Erase and Installed iOS 6.1.2: no luck.
I have restored my device back to factory settings: no luck.
I have performed a DFU restore: no luck.
This is my main account for, well everything.

  • IPhone won't turn on, can't restore because can't switch off find my iPhone

My iPhone won't switch on, past the apple symbol when pressing sleep/on and home button together. It will connect to iTunes but iTunes says it cannot restore without switching off find my iPhone. I tried deleting the app from the phone via iTunes but no success. Any ideas appreciated.

    Google "iphone dfu mode".
Follow the instructions and restore it.

  • Restoring phone, need to switch off Find My iphone, but can't access phone

Whilst updating IOS7 my phone crashed.  I reset it and successfully managed to restore to backup.  Everything was working fine until it asked for a passcode.  I entered the last passcode I was using but it won't accept it.  I've tried to restore again however iTunes is telling me that Find my iPhone needs to be switched off before it will do the restore, and this is done via the settings on the phone - which I can't access because I don't know the passcode.

The Find My iPhone app has nothing to do with this. Deleting the Find My iPhone app which is used to find another iOS device or Mac computer you own or for someone else to find their iPhone or iOS device with your iPhone does not turn off Find My iPhone with your iCloud account settings on your iPhone.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.

  • Random low rez icons in Dock, Switcher, and Finder?

Is anyone else getting randomly appearing low resolution app icons since updating to 10.6 or 10.6.1? They change to low rez jaggy fuzzy wherever they're loaded from the system. So they might appear in the Finder, the Dock, the Switcher, or in odd places like the Time Machine hard drive icon.
Sometimes they're normal and sometimes they switch to low.. I can't tell why.

Found some information on this Apple thread.
    Also here at MacFixIt.
None of the solutions presented in either forum are permanent fixes, only temporary. Restarting usually makes the problem go away for awhile, and is the easiest less detrimental solution.
Hopefully Apple will come up with a fix soon.

  • Focus switch to finder after Security Update 2006-001

Just updated with Security Update 2006-001 on PB G4 running 10.4.5.
While running Safari or Mail or any App. and not using the app (like when reading a webpage or mail message) the focus of the OS switches to the Finder after about 10 seconds or so. So in the top menubar right from Apple icon the OS switches from Safari or Mail to Finder.
Moving the mouse does not make any difference. i.e does not prevent or delay the switch.
Clicking on the application window returns focus to that application (Safari or Mail).
    Anyone?

thanks for the input. did not resolve the probelm though. finder started to crash every 2 minutes.
but on the bright side: its a user thing. my guest account was not affected.
so i trashed most of my prefs. that resolved the finder problem.
currently working on restoring my prefs & email accounts, oh well

  • Constant switching to FINDER after last update

Every since I did the suggested updates last week for my Mac laptop 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 with System X (version 10.4.11) I've had a problem with the computer automatically switching from whatever software I'm using and switching to the FINDER. While I'm typing this, it's switched over 3 times and I have to reclick on the SAFARI page to continue typing. It doesn't seem to matter what software I have open or are using. Last night I ran TechTool Pro 4 and it didn't find anything. WHAT is going on? It's getting really frustrating.

    Aloha,
I had to use the old Mac OSX restore from my CD, then update everything from printers to apps.to fix the problem. A **** mess mate, let me tell you. I believe it's related to the last Stuff It update, as that's when things went sour.
I saw another post from a guy in England who mentioned it, and I think he was right, though I was using Stuff It v8, not AVR as he mentioned.
    Good luck dude!

  • Menu bar switching to finder

I have this weird thing happen when I click any CC menu bar. If my curser gets too close to the top of the menu (see picture) all my menu options disappear and seems to disable me or switch to the Finder, until I click anywhere on the window.
How can I get it to stop doing this?

I'm not sure I understand your question
When I'm in Safari (like now) and click on the desktop I get back to the finder with the finder tool bar at the top of the screen - from there I can do any finder function including opening a new finder window
Another option would be to click on the finder in the Dock
I'm sure I'm missing your issue but it seems fairly easy with at least two ways to go
