Switch to next space/desktop

In Snow Leopard, I could use a single key cmd to switch to the next space. So if I had 3 spaces/desktops, it would cycle through them, 1 2 3 1 2 3 ... Lion has direct commands: "go to desktop 3" and "go right" or "go left". But not "go next and cycle".
This appears to be missing from Lion. Is there any way to implement this? AppleScript? Keyboard Prefs? Bash commands?
I realize that there are "gestures" but 2 out of 3 of my systems don't have that capability.

That's not quite what I'm looking for. I want a *single* key-cmd that will *cycle* through the spaces, wrapping around when at the last space.
This was the "switch between spaces" shortcut in the Expose/Spaces Systems Preference panel in Snow Leopard.

Facetime Video stops when switching to a different space / desktop

Using facetime, if i switch to a different desktop the video pauses. How do I stop that? Strangely, I don't have the option in the dock to "Assign to all desktops" like I do for pretty much every other app. This disappearing seems to have happened in Mountain Lion according to what a friend sees on his machine. When frequently switching between mobile and desktop view

When I frequently switching between mobile and desktop view I have to open the layers every time since they get closed/collapsed. Adobe may need to fix it for the next version.

You can use CTRL+# to switch between Code and Design View.

Mission Control in Yosemite Creates Tons of Spaces/Desktops

Every now and then, I'll open mission control, and I'll see dozens of spaces/desktops open. I did not open them myself, so Yosemite must be creating them automatically somehow. Here's a screenshot I just took while closing them:
I am hovering over desktop number 25, so there are around 40-50 desktops shown (and I had already deleted many of them before taking this screenshot).
Has anybody run into this before and know how to prevent it? Seems like a bug. Here are some notes:
OS X Yosemite (clean install on a new partition... I sill have Mavericks on an old partition).
Seems to only happen on my main screen (I have a second, external monitor).

Yeah, it does seem pretty rare. None of my coworkers have mentioned it, and most of them recently upgraded to Yosemite. Though, at least one other person has seen this issue too. Spaces and expose on Yosemite:
Though, there are some differences that could explain why none of my coworkers have seen this before. They are using iMacs (I have a MacBook Pro), they have Thunderbolt displays (I have a retina display), and they all upgraded from Mavericks (I did a clean install).
By the way, the user in the screenshot above mentioned that spaces are created each time they boot up. I'll open Mission Control next time I restart to see if that's when it happens for me (I've been on my computer for a couple hours now and still no extra spaces).
Also, I have VMware installed and use it frequently. It does some funky things with windows/screens and I run it in full screen all the time, so maybe that could be related.

Gnome3.6 shortcuts for "switch to next source" doesn't work after lock

If you have two or more input sources, once you have locked the screen, when typing password for re-login, the "switch to next source" shortcuts ("Ctrl+Space" for me) doesn't work.
I don't know whether it is a feature, or a bug? In fact I wonder if ALL THE SHORTCUTS DO NOT WORK AFTER LOCK.
Have anyone come up with this problem? If it is a bug, have it been reported to GNOME Bugzilla?

Popup balloons in X (Quartz) apps forces switch to another Space

Hi,
Please tell me there is a fix for this, as I have dealt with it even since the Leopard launch. Let's say you have an X window (Quartz) app running in space 4 and you are viewing space 1. Now, move the mouse cursor to a position that would prompt a popup balloon in the X app in space 4. Spaces will switch to space 4 to show the popup even though you're on space 1. I was at a large conference last week showing demos of our software and this happened several times to me while doing so. I had to explain to the confused attendees that it was Spaces misbehaving. This is a really embarrassing problem that I'm praying Apple will fix.

To assign an application to open in a particular space you can either go to the Spaces icon at the top of your monitor and choose the bottom entry "Open Spaces Preferences (if enabled) or open the System Preference for Spaces and in the middle of the window click on the + button to add an application to the Application Assignments window.
After you add the application, you click on the double arrows on the right side of the window and choose which Space the program is supposed to use. This works pretty well for me.
The only thing that's missing from other programs that did multiple desktops in Tiger is the ability to name the Spaces instead of just using numbers (like "Internet" instead of "1").
I use 9 Spaces because I switch to the different desktops by using the Control key plus a number. I have a cheat sheet set up on paper, pinned on the wall to remind me where certain programs are supposed to open. I've memorized the proper number for most of my assignments, but sometimes I have a brain **** with lesser used programs.

This is bad and I am sorry to hear that you are running into these issues.
Let me connect with you, so right now, the current state is that you have installed copy of PSE 8 in trial on your windows 7 machine, and when you are trying to enter the serial number from your PSE 8 Box, it is saying the serial number to be invalid?
It might sound pretty obvious, but please make sure that you are entering the serial number correctly and of PSE 8(in case you bought a PEPE box)?
Have you tried the steps mentioned below by Barbara?
If possible, you can send me the serial number through PRIVATE MESSAGE and I can check it on my end that whether the serial number is indeed invalid or that the issue is with your machine?

It's not completely obvious. What you have to do in Spaces is to position your cursor to the upper right of the screen, after which faint + (plus) sign appears in that area. Click that, upon which another Desktop will appear.
The + may be difficult or impossible to see with some desktop backgrounds (black, for instance):

Login item - in a specific Space/Desktop

I would like to have all the applications which are started up when I log on (System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items) started in a specific Space (desktop). Is this possible?

Yep.
In Login Items you have the option to show/hide login items, make sure all the ones you want to show are set appropriately there.
Then in System Preferences go into Expose & Spaces, then the Spaces tab. You can set Application Assignments so apps start up in certain spaces or in every space.

Why the shortcut of switch to next/previous tab(ctr+tab) doesn't work?(firefox 6)

I recently update firefox 6.0 version, but I can't use the shortcut(ctr+tab) to switch to next/previous tab. I download an extension called Customizable Shortcuts, also I can't find the item of witch to next/previous tab in it.
How can I fix this problem? It is really necessary for me.

Shortcut (Mac) switch to next tab

Hi, everyone.
I'm looking for the fastest way to switch codes, which is displayed top of the workspace as htmlcode, css, js.
I've found some information that there is a shortcut for that, and that is Cmd-' (that's the ~ key) (control+tab for windows).
But unfortunately, it didn't work at my PC.
So whould you tell me the neme of the categoly and item in the shortcut setting menu, at which I can set/change the shortcut for "switch to next tab".

you may want to try this extension - mru-tabs-switch. I wrote it for mylself (since could not find anything similar) and it works pretty well for me. Switch by Control+1.

How to create multiple Spaces (desktops) in Lion

On Lion, Spaces tend to instead be called Desktops, but I’ll continue to use the term Spaces in this article. To make more, enter Mission Control and hover your mouse over the top-right of the screen (or hold the option/alt key). You’ll see a “+” button, and you can click it to create a new Space.
You can also hover over any Space you’ve created (or again hold the option/alt key) to see a delete button, which you can use to delete that Space. You can only delete Spaces you’ve manually created.

I found the same problem. My (Australian) keyboard has { and [ on the same key. The shortcut for "History, Back" is cmd+[ . This conflicts with the shortcut cmd+{ , and going back takes priority it seems.
What does work for me to shift between tabs (even though it doesn't show in the menu shortcuts) is:
cmd + shift + { (to move tab to the left)
cmd + shift + } (to move tab to the right)

Autorecognition causes screen to switch to another Space (bug)

I have a problem with the auto-recognition function. The function itself work fine, but it is displayed in another Space.
So when I work in Space 2 with Numbers, whenever the auto-recgnition (as a drop down box) is to appear... the screen switches to, say, Space 1. Then when I react to the auto-recognition function, the screen is automatically switched back to Space 2.
Does anyone know what's happening?

I believe the feature meant is called "auto-completion." Auto-correction fixes capitalization, changes regular quotes to "smart" ones, & so on. Auto-completion offers to complete an entry, based on entries already existing in the table.
Auto-completion can be turned off in the "General" section of preferences. Auto-correction has its own tab in the preferences, where various of its options can be turned on & off.
However, I do not think auto-completion should cause any switch to another Space. (At least, I cannot duplicate this behavior.)
It might be worth doing some basic checks of the health of the system (like repairing permissions) or possibly creating a new user account to see if the behavior continues in that user account. (If not, it could indicate a bad preference file.)
Also check carefully the Application assignments & other options in Spaces to see if that offers a clue. For instance, is the switch always to the space assigned to some other application?
