Switchable mode in BIOS

Greetings.  I am using an engineering software that uses OpenGL for 3D graphics. My switchable graphics card cannot use dedicated GPU for OpenGL applications and I dont have an option in BIOS to set switchable graphics mode to fixed. I would like to have option in bios that allows me to manually switch between integrated and dedicated GPU cards.I have all hp drivers updated and I have latest version of BIOS installed. CPU:  Intel Core i5 4210URAM: 8GBGPU: Intel HD 4400 + AMD Radeon R5 M255

Hello @HPJinx ,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
This game is an older game and you won't be able to switch the graphics from within. A tool that you might find useful for graphics information can be downloaded here: CPUID
*Note that the use of third-party programs is not supported by HP.
As well, I noticed that you referred to the instructions in the correct document. If you still do not have the option to alter graphics, then the updated BIOS for that notebook no longer supports it.
I'm leaving this post on that brief note, for now. If you have any other questions, or feel like reading an elaborate explanation, let me know. Thanks!

    Hello,
Yesterday,I have upgraded my bios on my motherboard msi 990FXA GD 80. I upgraded 11.6 to 11.8.
Now, i can't change my mode in Bios (eco, normal, overcloak)

  • Toshiba Satellite A300-129 Crisis Recovery Mode Phoenix BIOS with USB drive

When flashing my BIOS back from v4.20 to a v3.90 I found on the net, everything went alright in windows, but as soon as I rebooted, the laptop showed the symptoms of a failed BIOS.
I'm now trying to repair the BIOS using the crisis recovery tool. I used the following procedure to create the USB stick and recover the BIOS
-Run the WINCRIS.Exe file in administrator and compatibility mode (Windows XP SP2)
-Select the USB drive (1GB Kingston), and format it with the tool
-Reinsert the drive and format again with the tool without restarting it to be sure that the disk is properly formatted
-Take the BL5S3D57.WPH file from the toshiba BIOS update and rename it to BIOS.WPH, and copy to the Crisdisk directory
-Copy the files BIOS.WPH (the one from toshiba I renamed), minidos.sys and winphlash16.exe to the drive in windows
    -Take the drive out
-Plug battery out, plug AC out of laptop, hold the power button for a few seconds to make sure no remaining current is in the laptop
    -Plug the USB Drive in
-Hold Fn+Esc in my case, this is the key combination where the laptop tries to read the USB drive the moment it boots up. It has something to do with enabling a boot block in the BIOS with that key combination.
-Plug AC in while still holding the F button
The F button does not nescessarily need to be held while plugging in AC, the laptop also tries to read from the drive if I hold it after plugging AC in, and before pushing the power button.
    -Press the power button
I need to push the button twice, because the first time after plugging in AC the power button doesn't do a thing. When holding the power button for around 10 seconds after right after plugging AC in, the laptop boots sometimes, didn't find a pattern yet here.
The easy thing however is to just push the button 2 or 3 times, then it boots, and the booting procedure seems exactly the same as when holding the power button
-Wait for the LED to flash on the USB Drive. Very important: it seems to only flash ONCE for me, so it means it tries to access the drive, but I think it doesn't contain the right files or isn't formatted correctly. If I keep holding the F button while the laptop is on, the LED flashes once every 10-20 seconds.
From here on out the laptop is supposed to be reading the BIOS files from the USB drive, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. So here comes my question:
What could I be doing wrong in formatting the drive or writing the files to it?
Do I have the wrong CRISDISK? Is it normal that the files arent copied by CRISDISK to the USB Drive and that I have to do it myself?
Am I using the wrong WinPhlash? Or should I use the files that are supplied in the official BIOS rar from toshiba?
I have tried different versions of CRISDISK, different USB Drives (one 4GB would not be read by the broken laptop, and another 1GB would not be read by CRISDISK when trying to format the drive)
Tried different files on the USB Drive, tried bios.wph instead of capitals, tried BIOS.FD,...
I'm kind of running out of options here to try. Is there anyone who has experience with this recovery mode flashing that could tell me what I might be doing wrong? Or that has any suggestions on which other CRISDISK or toshiba updates to use?
Thanks anyways to people who read this and try to help!

I hope that Russian service provider will be as honest as the European one and won't solder something out as a souvenir :)
They said, it will take approximately a week.
Serviceman said that L30 has no built-in crisis recovery routine.
So I wasted money by buying an USB floppy disk drive and risked to burn something in my laptop by frequent powering it on and off (and may be burnt, will see).
The lesson I learnt is never flash BIOS if everything works and if even flash then not from Windows (btw. I flashed successfully my Satellite A300 from Windows without any problems).
Phoenix makes its BIOSes since 2001 with a crisis recovery boot block, but Toshiba locks this feature in many laptops, I think, not without a reason. Service providers want money too :)

  • Mod GOP BIOS for MSI R9 270 Gaming

I'm curious. Will the above work for card other than MSI? I have an XFX Radeon R9 270X and I'd love to get UEFI GOP support on it.

Alright, I followed the directions and the provided file bricked my XFX Radeon. Fortunately I was able to navigate my way into the USB drive 'in the blind' (no video output) and I had my original VBIOS on my ATI FLASH device and was able to restore to my original.
So what I decided to try next was modifying MY original bios by manual inserting the UEFI GOP partition into the VBIOS. I flashed it, and now I'm very happy to say that it's working!!!
It's taken me DAYS to figure out how to do this - so I'll make a shortcut for anyone who needs it. I grabbed the attachment above and I dumped my origin VBIOS. Then I used HxD to hexedit the dollar sign (or whatever it is) to 00 (indicating that there is GOP driver available on the device), and then I directly copied the information from the provided VBIOS for the MSI card into the VBIOS for my XFX card.
Or you can just follow the guide, that I followed - http://www.overclock.net/t/1389206/do-you-want-uefi-gop-on-your-7950-7970-i-can-add-it-to-your-bios/120#post_20172963
I held my breath, flashed the new VBIOS, and rebooted. To my surprise and excitement -  I was instantly greated by the MSI BIOS picture. I then let out a huge sigh of relief and configured Windows 8.1 mode. From what I can tell - everything is working great! First boot into Windows took forever, and Windows PNP had to reinstall the AMD driver.
Other than that, everything went very smoothly :D
I'm now gonna let my computer sit for a couple hours and run some basic CPU, GPU, and RAM stress tests to make sure that everything is working correctly. I'll report back when I have the info
EDIT: Swap filing refuses to work after this (no idea why). But considering that I have 24GB's of RAM, I just went ahead and disabled it anyways. NOW everything works correctly! Gonna try some games now - see how they perform

  • No Safe Mode, No Bios, No Recovery

I am working on my niece's Satellite L955-S5330. She got herself some nasty malware that, in Windows 8, prevents any .exe from executing. I am trying to restore the Satellite to an earlier restore point (or possibly back to factory), but I can't figure out how to do it. I tried the following:
    1. Booting to Safe Mode, but booting with F8 or Shift F8 does not seem to invoke Safe Mode like it does in earlier versions of Windows. It goes right to desktop.
    2. Accessing the BIOS and booting to a USB or DVD with a malware removal tool, but I can find no way to access the BIOS to change the boot order,
    3. Pressing 0 during boot-up per advice in another thread in this form.
How can I restore to factory or an earlier restore point when Windows is useless?
    Thank you.

    Satellite L955-S5330
It goes right to desktop   ...   Windows is useless
    Which means exactly what?
If you can reach the Windows logon screen, click Power in the lower-right corner, and then while you hold down the Shift key click Restart.
That should get you to the boot options menu below. From there, you can reset the machine to factory new this way.

  • Intel SVID Mode Hang - Bios 1.8 - MSI-P67A-C45

Hi, this is a follow up on my previous question - Intel Sandy Bridge i5 2400 Vcore Range - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=145829.0
"Hi, want to check with you guys what is your i5 2400 Vcore range ? (As reported by CPUZ 1.56)
Mine keep stagnant at 1.19-1.21v between idle and load. I just know that idle vcore should be around 0.9v.
Is this normal ? My CPU frequency did downclock to 1600Mhz (100Mhz x 16) but vcore remained 1.19v.
    My setting are :
    Mobo - MSI P67A-C45 (Bios version 1.7)
GreenPowerMode - APS / Intel SVID (No effect)
CPU Setting - EIST enabled, CPU vcore auto, Spread spectrum on, Vdroop control high. CIE support on, Intel C state on, Power technology Custom/Energy efficient (No effect), Intel Turbo Disable
    All other setting on auto
Despite any setting I tweak and even optimised default, the vcore remained 1.19v although clock downed to 1600mhz. Any idea ? TQ !"
After I update to the latest bios 1.8 and set the GreenPowerMode to Intel SVID mode, the vcore now dropped to 0.8-0.9v which is nice
However, it will hang after some time in the window desktop every time. Meanwhile, if i set the GreenPowerMode to APS mode it was stable
But vcore remained at around 1.16v as above situation. Anybody experience hang on Intel SVID mode ?

You may want to consider giving the latest BETA UEFI Release as try:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=145403.msg1090271#msg1090271
The changelog mentions "Fix APS Mode fail when use 2600K CPU".  Perhaps that will have an effect on your system as well.  If not, contact MSI Technical Support about this issue: http://support.msi.com/

  • Windows 8.1 and AMD radeon HD 6700m switchable graphics on HP pavilion dv7

    Hello all
First would like to give positive feedback because my former problem was solved here but this thing appears again.
I have HP pavilion dv 7
    i7 -2670QM (2.20ghz)
    (8 GB Ram)
    Windows 8.1
So my problem is with the switchable graphic as it is stated in the subject.
I had windows 7 previously and I had no problems with switchable graphics-
When I bought licenced win 8 the problems started and are continuing in my 8.1 upgrade.
I tried several thing, from turning off switchable mode in BIOS, turn it off in win desktop, uninstalling drivers or blocking drivers and it still doesn't help
It's a shame that with a computer like this I can't play a bit better games that I was able to when I had win7.
The main problem is that when the game instals it checks your computer and tell you if it's ok or not-and everytime I get that I have intel HD3000 graphics. and not AMD radeon hd 6700m graphic card.
Can anybody tells me how to fix this thing? I don't have any problems in display adapter-all drivers are good to go, i have the latest amd catalyst software.
It would be a shame to buy win 8 if 7 was good and better working on this issue.
    Thank you for help

    Hello again GregaSlo,
It is good to hear from you again!
To prevent your system from crashing, and gain access to your fingerprint reader, I recommend performing a backup and recovery of your system's operating system. This can be done by following this document on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should help recover your system back to factory defaults.

  • Neo Bios 1.6 and Slow/Fast/Turbo/Ultra Modes

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Slow/Fast/Turbo/Ultra modes in Bios 1.6 on the Neo boards?
The only mode I can get to work is the Slow mode.  On all the rest, Win XP boots OK, but when I would run programs, the screen would lock for a few seconds, then come back in low resolution stating I had an unspecified "device failure", and I had to restart my computer for it to work properly.
In any case, I have no clue what the difference is between modes.  I was able to complete a 3dMark test while in Turbo mode, and compared it with one run in Slow mode, and the differences were minimal.
    Can anyone enlighten me?

No OC, Timings = by SPD, DRAM Frequency = Auto (200/400)
    Slow/Fast/Turbo/Ultra-Turbo results
    AIDA32 Display/GPU
    GPU Clock 200 210 210 210
    Memory clk 458 (no change)
    AIDA32 Motherboard/Motherboard (Effective clocks)
    FSB 809 (no change)
    Mem 404 (no change)
    Chipset 270 404 404 404
    SANDRA MAX3 Memory Benchmark
    INT 4340 4837 4956 5099
    Float 4390 4834 4970 5048
    PAT OFF ON ON ON
    Timings 2.0,4,4,6 2.0,3,3,6 2.0,2,3,6 2.0,2,2,6
"Slow" disables PAT/MAT and reduces the chipset bus frequency to 66Mhz (quad pumped)
    "Fast/Turbo/Ultra-Turbo" Overclock your video card!!!
If you set your memory timings manualy or use a ratio other than 1:1 there will be no difference between Fast/Turbo/Ultra-turbo (only difference being "by SPD" memory timings) -as far as i can tell
There maybe other differences but not found them ....yet

Have the same problem too - thinking about councelling my lawyer about that since the problem must be known to them for weeks! And the buggy update is still online!!! (Don't come with their stupid exclaimer - in Germany we have paragraph 303b StGB)
    Read your suggestion here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1456355.html
about the use of file name "bios.fd" - was a nice try - but unfortenately nothing more
Even tried with "bin" and "rom" - didn't even work.
Btw.: In another post I read about "PlatformName" from the ini-file and so I tried it with "NIWE1" and the endings .bin, .fd, .rom and hat no success either.
My next guess is that the ROM file within that package is faulty! So we need an old version to get back to a running state.
So still waiting for customer support callback...
Have a G560 (i5, 4GB RAM) with a stupid partinioned hard disk (was the first thing i changed).

  • How to add AHCI mode to insydh bios

    hi guys
im using hp pavilion g6t 2300 cto notebook
my notebook does not have AHCI mode in bios. can any one help me how add AHCI mode to my insydeh bios
it is too important for me please suggest me some solutions

    Hi:
What you want to do cannot be done as the BIOS in that model is set to AHCI by default and cannot be changed by any means.
When you go into the Windows device manager, click to expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers category and there you will see the name of the sata AHCI controller listed there.
If the BIOS was not set to AHCI, the controller would have been named differently.
For your specific model, you should be seeing the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller listed there.

  • Modded BIOS (90L, D0L) for GX60 3be

Hi Svet. Thanks for your bios that you unlocked for me, and it works very well.
I have a question for you. Is it able to mod on bios additionally?
Firstable, function that could make RAM (that is able to select on the menu but isn't really work), over to 1866mhz.
Secondly, function that could overclock the CPU. I am using 'a10-5750m es', so I am kind of free to overclock.
If it is not possible, please make it fixed on 3.5ghz which is clock. Thank you.

Nope, rather that unlocking bios options, further modification isn't possible
