Switched from Cablevision to FiOS, Slingbox not detected

Posted this on the Slingbox forums and not getting any help...
We recently made the switch to FiOS and I haven't been able to get the Slingbox working ever since. Having trouble finding any detailed troubleshooting intructions.
I made sure my Firewall is disabled on OSX Leopard 10.6.5 but I have not made any other custom changes to the new FioS router settings via admin panel like port forwarding. The Slingbox AV is wired to the Motorola HD DVR QIP 72161 STB through s-video and an ethernet cable is running directly into the FiOS Actiontec MI424-WR router.
Running the Slingbox setup wizard within the app and on slingbox.com and not luck with any detection of the box.
Any tips would be much appreciated.

You don't say "how" they fail.
The most common issue in these types of situations is a malfunctioning DNS server somewhere.
As a test, try changing the DNS server on your PC to use an alternate DNS service.   Google (8.8.8.8) or OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) are two high availability / reliable services.   This will isolate if the issue is with name resolution using the Verizon servers or somewhere else.
Additionally, pick a site which won't load and open a command window on your PC and do a "tracert" to the hostname (tracert www.google.com) and post the results.

  • Switch from AppleTalk to IP Address not working well in Quark 7.5

    Knowing I have to switch from AppleTalk to IP Address printing with two new MACs coming online with Snow Leopard, and updates I plan to do to three MacPros, I started testing by turning off AppleTalk on a MacPro running Leopard. I then set up our two printers (HP Color LaserJet 8500 and HP Laserjet 2200) through their IP addresses. Everything prints fine to the 8500, but have a problem with the 2200.
    We have routinely printed color documents out of Quark 7.5 to the 2200 for initial proofing, to save the cost of color printing. While some graphics don't look particularly great, they have printed OK (for initial proofing). However, when printing through the IP address to this printer, Quark documents with graphics become nothing more than junk, and print page after page of nothing but a row or two of junk. I've tested this on two MacPros prior to any update to Snow Leopard, with the same result.
    What could be causing this? Everything works fine through AppleTalk, but not through IP address on the one printer. (I'm totally disgusted that Apple did away with AppleTalk in Snow Leopard!!!)

  • Set up from creative down load does not detect any sound blaster audigy mess

    I have a sound blaster audigy with no installation cd. I installed the card to download the drivers. The detection software on the site said there was no creative product installed.
    I downloaded the web update file and saved to my desk top. Ran the file after closinging all apps and got a message that there was no audigy detected. Reinstalled the card, same, did it again in another pci slot.
    Tried finding a driver in xp, found one for soundblaster. No sound at all with this xp driver. I do not have intergrated sound on the abit k7rsa board. How do you install the driver if the set up program stops you because it does not see the device, and with no install cd? Thanks for any help.

    I have the same problem. About a year ago I threw out all my driver cd's because they were really piling up and i figured i'd never need them because I've been able to download all the driver's i've ever needed from company websites.
    NOT SO with Creative.
    I have the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum (the one with the ports for the front of the computer). I recently had to reinstall my OS. I got the soundcard to work, but all the optional components I had before (like the ability to use the remote control to control sound, and the EAX console etc) are gone. I tried to download these components from the website (it's really hard to tell which is which, so i downloaded them all). They will NOT install! I keep getting the error message "Setup did not detect required components, Setup will exit" on all the download software.
    This is extremely frustrating because I'm unable to setup the speakers properly (windows speaker settings don't really work).
    I did manage to do the automatic update thing, but it only updates the core drivers.
    PLEASE HELP!
    I paid $200 bucks for this card (granted, that was a couple years ago), so I should be able to at least download the same software that came with the product!
    Please have a professional (not an engineer without user interface experience) design the download area too...it is extremely difficult to understand what the individual components really do! At the very least, when you download them...they should work!

    Switched from iphone to galaxy for multiple reasons.  Still keeping my iPad and wanted to use my iphone for music.  Now I am not receiving texts, apparently imessages, from iphone users -  there is no notification either way that a message was not received.  So iphone users think I have received a text when I haven't.  This makes me angry with Apple as there have been medical issues in our family and I have not been receiving important communication.  I also have clients I have not received texts from.  My understanding is I will have to delete my iphone from my apple account completely, but then will not be able to use it at all for itunes or anything else.

  • Switch from Calbevision to Fios ???

    Im new to the Bronx Area and right now I have cablevision and it sucks. Im thinking about switching to Fios but I dont want to get caught in a two year contract and then I dont like it. Ive used Brighthouse from florida and time warner as well and both were great. Great Guides and DVR options. Cablevisions menus are horrible, I cant seem to figure out how the recorded shows are listed. Theres no specific order to it. I cant search for future shows for later in the week.
    Can anyone let me know how Fios is and how the guide and the DVR are.

    The guide is an issue.  They use a company called "FYI" and there are multiple threads about the errors and shortfalls (search is your friend).  Shows are not always correctly labeled as NEW, sporting events are not labeled as LIVE or repeat, and just plain outright errors.
    The DVR is OK.  It is only as good as the guide data since generally recordings are guide based (see above comments).  The other shortfall is the storage.  Current DVR only has 160 G drive which will only hold up to 20 hours of HD (depending on source bit rate).  At present there is no way to expand the drive size externally (been rumored to be coming for a year now - take with many grains of salt).

  • Upon wakeup from sleep, external display is not detected

    Hello. I have a mini display port to vga and have an external display hooked up to my 15" macbook pro. Once I put the macbook pro to sleep, and then wake it up, it turns to a blue screen (the kind when you plug in or remove an external monitor), and then prompts me for my password. Does anyone else have this issue? I think it might be because I did not buy the "official" mini display port to vga adapter (got mine from monoprice), and want to know if anyone has this issue using the official adapter. Thanks.

    Exactly the same issue.  My Eizo Coloredge was working fine after installation until (just now) I dared to do a restart...
    I have tried various different displays and connections over the past 20 minutes and have restarted my mac (late 2013 MBP 15' Retina) and connected / disconnected multiple times.  Neither my Coloredge via Thunderbolt or HDMI (no signal detected) is recognised, nor a Samsung LCD via HDMI.
    SO frustrating that something this basic should now be 'broken' when it was fine under Mavericks (and earlier OS).  Come on Apple, let's get a fix.  Plenty of people rely on external monitors.

    Settings, general, reset and reset network settings. Clear out your network settings and set personal hotspot again.
    also avoid special characters making a password. hashtags or open brackets for example doesn't work too good.

  • Switching from HDD to SSD - CCC not working to clone my existing drive

    I have a mid-2011 Macbook Pro 15" and I'm trying to replace the internal HDD with a new Crucial M500 SSD (500gb and 480gb, respectively). I've been researching but this problem is persisting.
    Here is what I have ready to assemble:
    Macbook Pro 15" mid-2011500GB HDD @7200 (330GB used)
    Crucial M500 SSD 480 GB
    WD External 500GB to use as a backup
    Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure
    I'm using Carbon Copy Cloner to try to clone my laptop's internal drive to my external for backup. With the first attempt, the process stopped around 90GB saying there was an error because the destination drive ran out of space. I completely wiped the external drive a second time, started the CCC, and again it stopped right around 90-100GB. I have saved many time machine backups of 300+ GBs to the same external drive with no problems, but apparently time machine doesn't work when replacing a new drive. What's going on here?
    I understand there are many threads and articles out there, I've read plenty of them, but I hope you all can help me based on my hardware and circumstances. Thanks

    You must partition and format the SSD:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your external drive. Open Disk Utility.
    2. After DU loads select your SSD (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    When the above is completed quit Disk Utility. Open CCC and clone your external drive to the internal SSD. Be sure you also install a Recovery HD at the beginning. CCC should alert you before cloning. Of course you external drive should have a Recovery HD partition. If it does not then CCC should be able to install one from their archive.

    I have recently changed all 5 of my home computers to only 3 Mac's. When I sold the PC I deauthorized them. However now that I have up graded my Mac to a newer version I am not able to play the music I had already purchased in iTunes. The message it gives me is that I can not deauthorize the computer until Feb of 2008. Is there a work around this? I would like to listen to my music.

  • Switching from DISH to FIOS

    After 10 years, I'm going with bundling TV, phone and internet with Verizon.  DISH's DVRs use USB connections for external HDs to expand DVR space.  It's my understanding that Verizon's DVRs use a SATA interface.  Does anyone in the forum know if there is a cable convertor for a USB drive that could then connet to the new Mototoal 7232 that I'm getting or do I need to buy a new HD?

    What you might be able to do is purchase a new eSATA enclosure for your existing hard drive. You will need to take apart the existing external hard drive enclosure, remove the hard drive inside (which is likely a standard SATA hard drive) and insert the hard drive in the new eSATA enclosure. eSATA enclosures will run you somewhere between $20 and $40, which is a significant savings over buying a whole new hard drive (especially at today's, flood-constrained prices.)

  • Hard Drive not detected

    Hello all,
    I am working on a friend's 15 inch iMac G5 and have run across what I'm hoping is not a major issue.
    The iMac was not booting and displayed a gray screen, I zapped PRAM, tried to boot from CD, and tried Target disk mode. Once I was finally able to boot from the CD the installer will not detect the iMac's internal HD. I also booted from my PowerBook which could not detect the HD. The Apple System Profiler has the same HD blindness.
    Is there any other explanation besides the HD being dead? This computer is only a year old, how could the HD die so fast?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    My iMac G5 20" is about 1.5 years old and is giving the same problem as well. It just die on me last weekend. As most of you explained earilier, it's unable to detected SATA drive. I replaced it with new SATA drive, and it's still unable to detected it. The fan also crank at high speed as well.
    Doing that should rule out SATA hard drive issue.
    It this going to be issue regarding to Apple products?
    I'm wondering if it's power supply issue. I know from past experience that with PC, that there's been
    failure related to power supply not giving enough juice to certain component.
    Sadly I don't have extra power supply with me to verify my theory.
