Switched from PC to iMac

I've just switched from a PC to an iMac.  I am currently running PS3 for Windows.  Can I download an Apple version of PS3?

Unfortunately, the serial numbers are platform specific and CS3 isn't being sold anymore. Only CS6 and the new CC subscription model. You can buy CS6 for $699 and CS6 Extended for $999. The CC subscription model is $9.99/MO and includes Lightroom. You can also use it on Mac or Win.

Benjamin, you are assuming the OP lives in the USA.  Price gouging means that some countries have to pay up to 50% more for Adobe products.  I paid NZ$1,800 for my first full version of Photoshop Extended!

I have the iPhone 4. I recently switched from PC to IMac. I am trying to sync my iPhone, but iTunes will not let me add or remove anything. Do I need to change a setting since I changed computers? I try to add songs from my music into my phone section and it will not go... Plus the playlists on my phone are not updated on my iTunes phone on my computer. Its like it never updated. What am I doing wrong??

Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.
When you sync to another it will delete the current content.
Make sure you have copied everything from your old computer to your new one first.

  • Switched from PC to IMac - spent two days on iTunes going bunkers

Hello,  I bought an iMac and downloaded iTunes from my iPad, so I thought.   I can see it, and browse through my songs however, when I want to play one - the top where you would see what song is playing now is going real fast over all my songs ( looks like its downloading ).   I've spent last two days trying to figure this out - switched from PC to IMac and I'm starting to get very frustrated.   Today went into iTunes store to purchase a song ( have credit on my account ); when submitting the buy button it indicates an unknown error -45054.    I set up the home sharing to see if this would work; tried ICloud; at my wits end.  Hope someone can  help - I Youtube for hours to find something to help with t his.   thank you much Mimi

  • Switched from G4 to iMac and HP 1350 Scans Double Image Now

I just switched from a G4 to an iMac 20: 2.66 GHz and my HP 1350 scans a double image of every page it scans. I did not use Migration Assistant but simply reinstalled the HP 1350 software on my iMac from the original disc. Does anyone know how to get it to scan normally? Thanks!

I used the HP uninstaller to uninstall all my HP products (meaning I had to reinstall my print driver for my HP 840c Deskjet too, but it works again). I missed the part about the SMC reset. What is that?
After I reinstalled the software I couldn't get the scanner to scan at all using its scanner button anymore. If I try to use the HP Photosmart Studio to start a scan, it scans only a small swath of the page in the scanner. I can use the HP Device Manager to call up HP Scan Pro to scan, but each time I do it I have to expand the default scan area from about a fifth of the entire page to the whole page. Obviously something's still wrong.
What is an SMC reset, and beyond that do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

  • Switching from Macpro to iMac

I'm thinking of getting rid of my almost 5-yr old Macpro and getting an iMac. I have lots of internal drives that I swap in-and-out of the Macpro and I'm thinking that as soon as external Thunderbolt enclosures become available I can just use one to access all of my drives.
Just curious to hear if anyone thinks working with an iMac with FCP is not a good idea for any reason?
    Thanks.

If thunderbolt pans out, the need for internal slots may go away. But it isn't there yet.
With a MacPro you can upgrade video cards, have more monitors, have monitors independent of CPU and add more RAM.
I'm a fan of the tower. I just upgraded the video card in my 4 year old 2008 MacPro 8 core 2.8  to an nVidia Quadro 4000. In addition over the years I've been able to add a second firewire bus, a 4 port esata card (to support external RAID), a Kona card for external monitoring (and a 3rd desktop monitor when not used for video) as well as add RAM from an initial 2 GB to 16 GB now.
I couldn't do this with an iMac.
Beyond what happens with the iMac, if you move to any new computer, you'll be forced into Lion (10.7). You should carefully evaluate software compatibility with the new OS. There can be significant hidden software upgrade costs involved with the switch.
    Have fun.

edit - if swapping drives is an issue, why not get something like a MacGuru's Burley enclosure? If nothing else, when you move to a new computer, you simply plug in the drive enclosure and you are good to go.

  • Switching from Powerbook to iMac.

I have two ATVs synced to a Powerbook running Tiger. The iTunes files are held on an external 500GB drive. I propose replacing the Powerbook with an iMac running Leopard housing the iTunes files on the internal drive, using the external drive for Time Machine backup. My concern is that I could lose all the files on the ATVs during the switch. What are the potential pitfalls, and how do I avoid them?

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that when you set up to sync to the new iTunes instance on a new Mac, then AppleTV would just assume different Mac, different library, start to sync afresh.
It probably depends what holds known AppleTV device parameters - if it's in the iTunes library and you transfer that befor connecting to AppleTV it might work, but say the known AppleTVs are held outside the music library, then I'd imagine you'd have to set up the AppleTV to sync with a new iTunes instance and that would mess things up.
As you have the original files the worst case would be AppleTV resyncing the lot wouldn't it?
As far as finding the 'same files', it's hard to know if it's iTunes or AppleTv that maintains a list of what's synced and what that list holds. If it were an absolute address list then the files would no longer be where expected, but if relative to the iTunes library they'd be the same.

  • I made a switcher from my old iMac!

OK, so my father-in-law is going to be buying my iMac so I can buy the new iMac! My first convert!
So, heres my question thats kind of related. Even though I am a Mac user, I am usually the "Sys IT" in my family of Windows users. I want them to switch, when they are ready, but also wants them to have well-running PC for now.
What are the top freeware for PCs to keep them tip-top? ClamAV? Any others?

Dell Inspiron 1501 and a Pav. a1710n HP PC (both running Vista). It took me an entire night to take all the crippleware off and make them functional. Now I'm looking for good OpenSource solutions for stuff like AV and such.

I'm trying to use a Huey with the iMac ( a friend told me to do so ) but im not sure if im attacking this problem the right way.
Please Help - please use layman's terms though......
    24" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hmm, my client uses a Mac Pro and CS3 we have seen no problems with her pictures and moves a ton of them. She's a pro.

  • Switching from MBP to iMac with 2nd SSD drive

    Hi, all.
I'm thinking of the possibility of upgrading my 2007 MBP to an iMac running Logic 9. What's impressed me is the BTO option with the quad-core models where they add a second SSD drive for the OS plus the 1 or 2 TB hard drive at 7200 rpm. I currently have a Glyph hard drive for samples, audio and backups. I know it's expensive and many people aren't using SSD's, but would that be a good way to go if I put all my samples (BFD2, Omnisphere, Trilian, etc.) on the 7200 rpm hard drive and backup stuff to my Glyph? This would free up my Firewire bus for the Duet so that I can put the Glyph on a USB port to backup stuff.
I'd like an answer ASAP on this, please.
    Thanks,
    Damian.

Sounds solid to me. If the Glyph was connected on a firewire port that is. This would free up the bandwith that way but actually it is hardly an issue with the Duet considering the limited inputs. But using the Glyph as a backup for your projects is good wise idea anyway.

  • Switching from PC to Mac - do I have to re-purchase all software?

I have an odd question and was hoping for support from someone who works at Apple, but I can't seem to access chat...  My question is this:  I am currently in design school, and am making the switch from PC to iMac.  I have Photoshop CS6 extended for Windows, and I'm wondering if I now have to purchase it for Mac, or if they will give me the correct discs since I already have a PC version.

For perpetual License you should do a search for "crossgrade".

do the latest iMacs (new slim version) still support auto-switching from 220V to 110V?

Yes. Apple power supplies work with voltages between 110 and 240 v.

  • What would cause my iMac's desktop resolution to briefly readjust whenever I switch from my user to another?

I recently started to notice that whenever I switch from one user account to another on my recently purchased iMac, the resolution of my desktop wallpaper very briefly readjusts.  Both users have the same default resolution and are using wallpaper that came standard with Mavericks.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this?
    Thanks!

    Hello there, Conor68.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great recommendations for troubleshooting display issues on your Mac:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
Once you're reviewed the recommendations in regards to updates, this portion of the section on "No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering" is useful:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
