Switched to Mac, needs my windows CS3 installed on it...

I bought CS3 in 2004 for windows. I now have a mac 13" retina and it has no cd drive. Can i use my CS3 on my Mac? Even though its for windows? Will Adobe let me trade in my serial # to CS3 windows for a mac CS3 serial #?

Hi shark1014u,
The Windows version of CS3 will not work on MAC nor can you trade in for Platform swap as that policy is valid for current version of the softwares only.
For more details regarding the Platform Swap policy you can refer : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platfo rm-language-swap.html

I just made the switch to mac. I am have installed all the new PS6 CC and bridge and I am now trying to add some presets to my  ACR but when I search for the folder to place them it is not there.  From what I researched it says it should be under camera library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings but I can only get to library/application support/adobe/ and then there are two different camera raw options I have checked both and there are not settings folder. If anyone can help me please thanks

Apple most likely has the same poor taste that Microsoft does when it come to defaults.  Microsoft likes to hide things like  settings, preset, folders etc from normal users  think the dumb or something else.  If Apple also hide things you will have to  make some system setting changes that will allow Finder to do it job and find it for you.

  • HT4718 infinite loop error installing  lion internet recovery "Install Mac OS X" window. " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer - Restart"

    Hi all,
my macbook pro became extermily slow for some reason, I rebooted it many times and same problem so I decided to reinstall the Mac OS X lion from the internet.
I tried installing  lion internet recovery, it downloaded it and restarted. I got the "Install Mac OS X" window. then while installing I got the sad message " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer" and the only botton is "restart". Everytime I restart I gor the same message. Now I am trying to start from the harddisk but I does not show when you start the pc, keep clicking the "alt" botton. It only shows "Mac OS X Installer" and "Recovery HD". What Should I do?
    I appreciate your help. Thanks.

    Thanks Baltwo.
I could format it and get the back up from time machine but it is not up to date so I want to leave it at last.
I tried to back it up on external hard drive and got an error, tried CCC for back up and error again.
Just wanted to do an update on the subject. Still trying to get it back.

  • Switching from Mac OS to Windows XP

I have one of the early Macbooks, 1.8GHZ with 2GB of RAM [just upgraded] and 80GB harddisk. I want to switch the computer entirely over to windows and get rid of Mac OS altogether as I have a number of specialist Windows only programs that I need to run for work. I think my computer would be too slow or have too little memory to have both or to run parallels.
Does anybody know of anywhere I can read up on how to do this transition? Ideally I'd like to wipe the HD and re-install everything, but don't know how to start my computer from scratch again. Do people recommend Windows XP or Vista? Any advice from people who have already done this would be much appreciated.

There are plenty of topics on this very question which gets asked fairly often depending on your search criteria.
    Short answer is no.
The OS X license agreement provides for installing and using it on a single Apple branded/labeled computer only.
The only way to install Tiger on a PC is via a hack of some sort and even if the hack is successful, very little on your PC would be supported and the overall performance would not be worth the trouble.
    > I was reading an artical and found out that the Mac OS X Tiger already has many of the things that the new windows vista has.
What you read is correct and it took Microsoft 5 years to come up with what amounts to a copy of OS X. I read there are 10 separate/different versions of Vista to choose from? How on earth is the average person (or even the above average person) expected to wade through all that confusing mess?
Apple is getting ready to launch a new OS X version called Leopard this spring which will place Windows even father behind.
If you want to run Tiger and Vista, purchase an Intel Mac which gives you the ability to run both operating systems natively on a single computer.

  • How can I switch my Mac iTunes to windows?

    HELP ME!!!

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac, and then you'll have Word.
You could use BootCamp, Parallels or Fusion to install Windows if you absolutely need it, but just having Microsoft Office will be enough for most people.
Fetch is just an FTP client. It's for transferring files between computers.

  • Switching to Mac: Needed Programs and Functions Availible on Mac?

    Hi,
I always wanted a Mac together with Logic Studio, finally I'm one step away of getting an iMac with 4 gigs ram and 1 TB HD, I'm just waiting for the next update, since I fall in the category "I want it but don't really need it now".
I have questions about things I really need on a Mac.
_*1. Logitech Marble Mouse Scroll Wheel Function*_
Unfortunately I have RSI (repetitive strain injury), meaning pain in the arms, that's why I bought the Logitech Marble Trackball Mouse to not tense while using the mouse and have less pain and be able to play the piano more. And it actually works well that way, I still have pain while playing the piano but it's not as much as before.
The thing is, this mouse doesn't have a scroll wheel, one way to scroll is to hold down the side button (which is used for back and forth in the internet browser) and scroll with the ball. But this doesn't work out of the box, I had to install a special program which auto starts together with WinXP and that way it does work even in music programs like Cubase 4. The only problem, this program is -sigh- for PC only.
*So my question is:* Is there any way to use the scroll wheel function of the Marble Mouse like I described above on a Mac, especially in Safari and Logic 8?
I wanted to contact Logitech but I can't find an email on their website.
    _*2. Babylon Translation Tool*_
English is my 3rd language, I learnt it on my own and a very big help to learn this language was Babylon a small yet powerful translation tool that I use almost daily. The problem here is the same as above, this program is only availible for the PC.
*My question:* Are there any alternatives for Babylon on a Mac, for someone that really needs it on a daily basis? Keep in mind I'm not translating full texts, most of the time I'm translating just single words. And I need it to be English - English, English - German, German - English, and I'd need all these translations on one view, just like in Babylon.
Other than these two things, I don't really think I'd miss too much from the PC World, not that I can think of yet.

  • If I upgrade from CS3 Windows to CS4 Mac , will my windows CS3 still work?

    Subject says it all.
I would like to have photoshop CS4 on my mac but be able to retain the useage of CS3 on my windows machine. Is this possible or will upgrading cancel out my ability to use CS3?

Because i have two computers that i use simultaneously, 1 mac and 1 pc. I would not own a mac if I wanted to run windows on it hehe.
I have software I use on windows because it is more supported than the mac version of it. ( some companies shouldn't tease and say they have a mac version unless they actually have a tech squad capable of squashing bugs )
It is very convenient to have photoshop on my windows pc along with that software.
My PC and Mac are almost identical in specs ( 4gb ram, 2.13 ghz core 2 duo vs 2.4 ghz core 2 duo ) yet my mac can open files from my PC's desktop 10x faster than my PC can. - over the network. I keep my PC in top shape, i defrag, i run malware / antivirus cleaners, I check my registry regularly. Its just not close to being as fast as my mac.
I use my mac primarily for webdesign/development work and thats why I would love to have a permanent version of photoshop on it. the work I do on my PC is related to 3d and the software I use has very poor mac support.
So my question has been answered, I am unable to crossgrade to mac and retain a working PC version. so for now, i get to upgrade the PC version and wait for a few more $ until i can grab a full mac version. at which point i might even go all out and grab the $1700 suite.
    Thank you for the help!

  • Switching to Mac need some advice

This year my college is requiring laptops with certain specs and my hp doesn't meet them. Thisgives me an excellent excuse to get a mac. I am in advertising for my major and will need the machine to run cs4 and maybe some light gaming (think the sims that sort) anyway I don't really want to spend more than $2k and have been leaning toward the lowend mbp. Will this suffice or do I need the discrete graphics? I know these questions get asked a lot and I have been reading through some of the others but would appreciate an answer directly if I am about to spend that much cash. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Do you qualify for a scholarship? Usually if the course/program requires a portable computer their usually is some financial aid available? But in some cases, you have to purchase directly from the "campus store" in order to qualify for the scholarship or discount?
I recently had the MBP 15 early 2008 model and was pleased. But I just recently bought the MBP 17 09 model and it is sweet. The other concern is screen size. If you will be doing a lot of multi-media, I would not suggest the 13" because you will be cramped for space when you have large 2 page layouts in certain CS4 programs. The base model Graphics will run CS4 just fine on the MBP 15.
If you have the cash why not just purchase something that you know will last for your entire program length.
Make sure and check if there is any financial aid available that will offset your costs. Sometimes if they say there isn't that just means you will have to dig a little harder to find some type of scholarship in your area of study. If you find some free $, maybe you can get the pimped out MBP 15 2.66? It is worth a try?

  • Switching from Mac to PC (Windows)

I started using my ipod on my sister's mac. I did not realize it would be a problem to later use my pc to transfer songs to my ipod. When I try to do so, I get a message threatening to restore... and I was told if I plug my ipod into a mac it will delete all my songs and I'd have to start all over. I cannot do that because my sister lives across the country and has the songs I want on her mac. Is there a way around this?

Uhmm... I hope you weren't being sarcastic because if so that was so not called for! First of all the songs are from MY cd's, which I purchased. I just dont have all of those cd's here with me. Also, I'd like to put another cd on my ipod but I'd like to use my PC from now on.

  • Do I need an Antivirus if I have windows on my Mac and frequently go from Mac OS to Windows (7)?

I have been using a Mac and am thinking of getting windows 7 installed on it.
My question is, will I need an antivirus software?
    - I will be frequently changing from Mac OS and Windows.
    - I will only be playing games from (Steam and Origin).
    - Will not be using it to download anything except games for steam and origin.
    - I will have things like twitter open on chrome.
(emails I do not need to open on my computer)
    - Nothing else will be open
Antivirus softwares are very pricy these days, therefore, if I will need one, is there a free alternative for an antivirus software? Or is it okay if I keep switching between Mac OS and Windows 7?
    Thank you.

Thank you very much the very quick reply.
Will download Win7 now and check out Microsoft Security Essentials!
    Again, thanks for the help.

  • Considering switching to Mac

Hello everyone, i have been a PC/Windows user all of my life, and am now very seriously considering switching over to mac. However, i have some questions first that i cant seem to find a direct answer to, and apologize in advance for asking things that might seem like a stupid question... so, here goes:
    1. If i were to switch over to the mac version of Microsoft Office, could i swap documents i created in Word with PC's and vice versa(all of the rest of my families computers are PCs as are my schools)without any problems? Would whatever that answer is be the same for any other Office apps like PowerPoint?
    2. Am I correct that Safari is an internet browser?
    3. Does iChat come with the Macs, or is it a seperate program you have to buy?
    4. In iChat, can i still instant message all of my friends who use AIM on a PC and still use my old screen-name if i wanted to? What if i wanted to create a new AIM screen-name? do i just go to AIM.com, make a new one, and use it in iChat without actually downloading the AIM program?
    5. I currently have AOL on my PC but, of course, it *****, and i hear it is even worse on a Mac, so i would just use Safari, but can i still keep my old @aol.com e-mail address and access my e-mail through aol.com? and if i wanted to, could i create a new @aol.com e-mail address using this same method?
    6. Will i still be able to watch all the online videos that run using quicktime/real player/windows media player, on my mac?
    7. Am i right in assuming that i can network my new mac and my old PC in order to move my iTunes library (in AAC format)
from the PC to the Mac? Just for the record, none of the music that i purchased from the iTunes store is "Protected" anymore because i burnt it to a cd and re-imported it, however the videos and tv shows that i bought from them im assuming are still protected, so how could i move THOSE to a my new mac?
Once again, i apologize that I have so many questions that probably seem pretty stupid, but i havent been able to find direct answers to these specific questions
I also want to say thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me, sorry im such a clueless PC user, but, hopefully, with these questions answered, i will be able to happily switch to mac.

    Hello,

I'll answer them as we go below:
    1. If i were to switch over to the mac version of
Microsoft Office, could i swap documents i created in
Word with PC's and vice versa(all of the rest of my
families computers are PCs as are my schools)without
any problems? Would whatever that answer is be the
same for any other Office apps like PowerPoint?
Yes, all the documents will open and exchange between Microsoft Office for the Mac and Microsoft Office for the PC without trouble.
You can send and exchange them in either direction, and it will work fine.
My wife does just that with her computer. She uses Office for Windows at work and Office for Mac at home.
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents move either direction without any trouble.
There is no Mac version of Access though.
Personally, I use the free NeoOffice program on my system:
    http://www.neooffice.org/
It is also compatible with Microsoft Office. Everything exchanges back and forth in either direction without trouble.
I've exchanged a lot of documents with Office users who have PC's, and they've never had any trouble opening anything I've sent them, and I've never had any problems with anything they've sent me.
NeoOffice can also work with PowerPoint files as well. They've played just fine for me.
It exchanges / works with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
    2. Am I correct that Safari is an internet browser?
Yes. It is the standard browser on the Mac. I personally prefer it. And, it works with every page I've tried it with. I use it full-time.
But, there are also versions of Opera, FireFox, Netscape, and many others, for the Mac if you want to use something different.
    3. Does iChat come with the Macs, or is it a seperate
    program you have to buy?
It comes standard on all Macs. It's part of OS X.
    4. In iChat, can i still instant message all of my
friends who use AIM on a PC and still use my old
    screen-name if i wanted to?
Yes. You just enter your AIM screen-name when you setup iChat. And, it works as expected from there.
iChat has been designed to work just fine with AIM accounts, and will allow you to talk to other AIM users without any hassle.
    What if i wanted to
create a new AIM screen-name? do i just go to
AIM.com, make a new one, and use it in iChat without
    actually downloading the AIM program?
Yes. Just do it at their website. That's how I did it.
    5. I currently have AOL on my PC but, of course, it
*****, and i hear it is even worse on a Mac, so i
would just use Safari, but can i still keep my old
@aol.com e-mail address and access my e-mail through
aol.com? and if i wanted to, could i create a new
@aol.com e-mail address using this same method?
If you're talking about using Safari to go to the AOL site and use their webmail interface to check your e-mail, then yes that should work just fine.
    6. Will i still be able to watch all the online
videos that run using quicktime/real player/windows
    media player, on my mac?
    Yes.
There are Mac versions of all of those programs. Quicktime comes with all Macs. But, you can download the others.
Windows Media Player has been discontinued, but it still works and can be downloaded from Microsoft's website.
There is also a plug-in to play Windows Media Players in Apple's Quicktime Player.
    7. Am i right in assuming that i can network my new
mac and my old PC in order to move my iTunes library
    (in AAC format)
from the PC to the Mac? Just for the record, none of
the music that i purchased from the iTunes store is
"Protected" anymore because i burnt it to a cd and
re-imported it, however the videos and tv shows that
i bought from them im assuming are still protected,
so how could i move THOSE to a my new mac?
You should be able to find all you need on that here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Those directions explain how to move them using your iPod. But, you could use the same basic method to move them over the network. Just substitute copying through the network for the part that addresses copying them into and from the iPod.
The rest should be about the same.
I also want to say thank you in advance for any help
    anyone can give me,
You're quite welcome. Glad to help

  • Mac File Site window always on top

I am using Dreamweaver 8.0, but have seen this exact same
issue on a Windows CS3 install and a Mac CS3 install.
I like to have the Files Window detached from the right side,
and expanded so I can see the Remote Site and Local Files lists
side by side. When I open an html file, I expect the html file to
open on top of the file list window. It works this way on some
installs, but not on others, very annoying. In the problem
installs, I must manually move the file (site) window way down to
the right to expose the html file I want to work on. Then when I
want open another html file, I have to drag it file window back up,
to see my file list, double click on the file, and then move the
file list back out of the way.
In other words, in the problem setups, the File Window is
"always on top", so it must be a preference or setting, but I
    cannot figure out.
Please help me fix this annoying problem.
    mark

I'm having the exact same problem in DW CS5 now. Did you find a solution? Hitting fn+F8 isn't going to work on my iMac extended keyboard. F8 is the iTunes play pause button. Besides, having to command-tab to an app THEN hit fn+F8 just isn't going to work obviously.
I can't believe in 2010 this is broken.
Please do let me know if you found a way around it. I tried all the different layout prefabs in CS5, and without exception they all do it.

  • Windows User Switching to Mac – System Install/Setup Help

    Hi All,
I’m a (very) long time windows user switching to Mac. I know nothing about Mac’s as in zero zip (I’ve been messing with an iMac for 2 weeks.) Buying a MacBook Pro (spec’s at bottom). I do creative work audio/video/graphics and use a lot of nonstandard peripherals e.g. audio interfaces, RAID, drawing tablets etc. Getting a new system setup is a long and laborious process.
When I get a new computer here’s my normal process:
    Step 1
I reinstall windows to get rid of the junk software that’s always added by third parties.
Update all hardware drivers & software (OS and Auxiliary app’s)
Tweak Windows OS for my needs
    Make full system backup
    Step 2
Install all my major app’s e.g. adobe creative suite, audio programs etc.
Install non-standard peripherals such as audio interfaces, RAIDs etc.
    Make full system backup
    Step 3
Open up all major app’s and customize e.g. set preferences etc.
Set-up and test app specific peripherals, tweak as necessary
    Make full system backup
    Step 4
Install virus software and unimportant apps/hardware. No backup.
Is this basically what I should do with the mac? What kind of issues might I expect? Are there steps or issues I’m worrying about that don’t apply to the Mac? Finally, is there an equivalent to the windows Blue Screen of Death? Does the system every get so jammed up that a complete wipe out and re-install of OS and software is required?
I know these are very open questions so I’m only looking for general information.
    Thanks
Here’s the machine I’m going to buy:
    15” MacBook Pro (Late 2013) | 2.3GHz i7 Quad | 512GB PCIe-Based SSD | 16GB Ram - GeForce GT 750M (2GB)

Just to clarify the Mac includes anti-virus software and updates with no additional software purchase required?
Yes. Unlike Windows OS X was designed from its inception to be a secure multiuser operating system incorporating many protections specifically intended to isolate one user's space from another. Each succeeding release has only added more protections, and Apple updates its virus / malware database regularly.
Third party "anti-virus" products abound, but none of them improve upon anything OS X already includes. Most of them are simply worthless junk. Some will only cause problems, while others are arguably malicious. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Apple is the most famously secretive company since E-Systems, yet the vast majority of Mac related problems reported on this site are the direct result of using ill-conceived products from third party developers claiming unique knowledge of OS X's inner workings. The companies selling them are desperate to assert their continued relevance in a market that is seeing rapid contraction of Windows PCs in favor of iPads - and to a lesser extent, Macs - that have never had the need for their products. Many AV vendors have been reduced to sordid scare tactics as they see their market and revenue stream diminish. Unfortunately, scare tactics work, resulting in widespread misery among Mac users gullible enough to swallow them. That represents a threat all to itself.
If it were not for Windows' predilection for malicious alteration from viruses and malware we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Even though I’m doing some heavy lifting e.g. video editing, audio recording (full band), large folders of music files/video clips/animations etc. no system/drive maintenance is required by me or if it is the software to do so is already included?
Correct. As a professional you may not be satisfied with the bundled apps such as iMovie but Apple has professional video and audio recording apps as well. Even they are not very expensive. You can find out more about them in the Professional Applications forum.
A Mac needs no third party maintenance utilities. Like "anti-virus" products most of them are worthless also.
Time Capsule: I thought that was Apples hardware for backup, remote access, streaming etc.
Yes. The Time Capsule is Apple's combination wireless router and backup device. You can just as easily use any inexpensive hard disk to use in conjunction with Time Machine.
Time Machine is Apple's backup software and it's included with OS X. You can use either one, or both. You can also use inexpensive commercial "clone" software such as Carbon Copy Cloner. Each one has its advantages, as well as their limitations. In the interest of redundancy I use all of them.
B&H Photo is a highly reputable vendor, one of the few I recommend.

  • Just switching from CS4 & LR5 on Windows desktops to CS+LR monthly subcription for Mac, with catalogues, files etc residing on external HDD: Anything I need to be particularly aware of, or beware of, before/during switch?

Just switching from CS4 & LR5 on Windows desktops to CS+LR monthly subcription for Mac, with catalogues, files etc residing on external HDD (due to multi-location living & lots of travel). Anything I need to be particularly aware of, or beware of, before/during the switch? Thanks a lot for recommendations, suggestions, warnings, tips. Best, Joachim

The switch should be straight forward but I would start by uninstalling LR 5. This is because there is no specific CC version of Lightroom and you can’t run the creative cloud version and the perpetual version on the same machine. Your catalog and images will be safe and will not be affected by uninstalling. CS4 will not be affected and will still work independently.
Then launch CC desktop and go to the Apps tab. I would recommend installing in this order:
    Photoshop CC 2014
Photoshop CC (if you need this to run old plug-ins)
    Lightroom 5
If you install in that order LR will automatically recognize Photoshop for external editing from the LR Library.
