Switcher Having Big Problems

Hi there, I bought a Mini (1.5 Bluetooth and Wifi) as a travel computer and am currently using it in Beijing. I've been very pleased with it so far in general...In terms of speed and capabilities it has been great. But I am facing a couple of showstopping problems.
1) All of the Jpeg and RAW files I import from my Canon 20D camera are corrupted on the Mac. I import by using a USB card reader and just plugging in the cameras CF card. The files are fine on my PC laptop and other PC's. I've tried opening them on the Mac with Photoshop, Iphoto and Lightroom and they are always corrupted. Is there a special setting necessary to import files to Mac?
2) Most of the AVI and WMV video files I download from TV Torrents are unplayable and require additional codecs. Is there a place to go to get these?

all digital cameras I know offer the possibility to connect them to a computer via a USB cable. Hvae you tried to import your pictures that way ? Also, regarding RAWs, they're not all the same, and iPhoto doesn't support all of them. I don't know anything about Lightroom and Photoshop's RAW support, but I suppose it has limitations too.
I wouldn't suggest dowloading Windows Media Player for Mac, as it is no longer actively developed by Microsoft. I would go for the Flip4Mac plugin instead. You can even get it from Microsoft's website. The free version offers .wmv/.wma playback, and you can upgrade to benefit from being able to convert to and from Windows Media formats (with QuickTime Pro). Except for the bug mentioned by Lionel, it works just fine for all Windows Media files w/out DRM protection (which can only be played by Windows Media Player for Windows). VLC is a good media player, supporting a wide array of video formats. You can have both installed on your Mac : I usually use VLC whenever QuickTime refuses to play a file, and in most cases it succeeds where QT failed.

Having big problems with Creative Zen Micro Photo!! I need much urgent help!

Hi. I am having a big problem with my MP3 Creative Zen Micro Photo device at the computer.Here is the thing:Before I bought this I had the regular Zen Micro & having fun with it. I had no problems with that when I used the Media Explorer to transfer songs. So I bought the Zen Micro Photo & installed it my computer. As normal I used the Media Explorer to transfer songs & pictures.So I reinstalled Windows XP at my computer, and when I installed the CD that followed to transfer new songs, the Windows said that it's an unknown thing I have connected in the USB.So I installed Service Pack & 2. I have tried to install drivers from the cd but it seems that there are no drivers on the cd! The big problem is that when I connect the MP3 to the computer, it doesn't read it's a Zen Micro, it's just unknown! So the Zen Micro Photo Media Explorer program doesn't work & I can't transfer songs or picture on it! And it just happened after I re-installed Windows on my computer. The same thing happened on my brother's computer after he re-installed windows. And when I connect the MP3 to the USB, it says that it's not a USB 2.0, but .! And I am sure it is 2.0 because it has always been like that before I re-installed windows. Also the MP3 does not re-charge when I put it my computer! The battery is just the same, it tries to do it but it doesn't. So I am using my sisters computer to charge the MP3 & transfer songs. I have tried everything but I can't seem to understand what the problem is? I have never experienced something like this before, and I really hope you can help me with this! To be honest I think what I am missing is the driver. So can someone PLEASE provide me the link for the driver? I have downloaded all those 3 on www.creative.com, but they are none of them! Also that playforsure firmawre thingy does not work because it sais that I have to connect my MP3, and it is connected already!Please reply as quick as possible! Thanks a lot for you kind help!

I suffer same. AppleCare can't seem to solve the problem. I did a restore from backup. Then I did a restore as new phone (virgin). Then I did a restore as a new device and then backed up from a stored backup (which does not replace media). To no avail. Some days it works fine, and on others it's extremely bothersome. The major symptoms:
1. It can take 5+ seconds to delete a photo.
2. It can take 10+ seconds for the camera app to activate. In many instances, the moment is long gone.
3. Switching from camera to video can take 5+ seconds.
4. Saving a photo that's been optimized in iOS 5 can take 30 seconds. Absurd.
Note that Photos and Camera aren't the only affected applications. What'sApp can have the same issues on occasion. Voice Memos don't respond like they should, either. I suspect that there's some behind-the-scenes operations with network feed to which iOS gives its full attention (contrary to the UX getting full attention is is historically the case). This makes the user interface painfully slow at times — and, as most of us here would agree — painfully annoying. This might have to do with changes designed around iCloud, but I'm not even (yet) using it.
The bottom line is that what used to be a quick, pretty good phone camera is now totally lackluster and unreliable for fast shots. Sometimes I think Apple spends too much time worrying about form and not enough about function.

Help please, im having big problems enabling wifi sync

Im having problems enabling wifi-sync between my Windows PC (Windows 7 - iTunes 11.0.4) and my iPhone 4S (Running iOS 6.1.3)
iTunes lets me check the box "Sync This Phone over WiFi" and when i click Apply - Then Sync the box stays checked but when I look on my iPhone on Settings > General > iTunes Wifi Sync it just still says "To enable Wi-Fi Syncing with iTunes, connect to iTunes on your computer using a cable and click "Syncwith this iPhone over Wi-Fi"."
I have checked that both iphone and PC are connected to same WiFi network, and have tried a FW restore on the iphone and neither have solved the problem. I have also authorised my computer to my apple ID.
Im getting to the end of my tether with this issue now, its strange because my wifes iPod Touch will sync over wifi flawlessly (Same PC, different user account)
Please help if you can...

Yes, i have been clicking APPLY and then SYNC and then finally "ejecting" the iphone frmo within itunes before i dis-connect it. Its a very odd problem.

HELP!! I am having BIG PROBLEMS getting the Custom Page Sizes to work!!

I am having a MAJOR challenge working with the Custom Page Size feature in Pages '09. My mom is working on a primer music book for publication, where the page size (for the printer) MUST BE 9" X 12"!! For some reason even though I have set the custom page size to 9" x 12", The document does not appear to have the proper proportions, (i.e. the ration of the width to height IS NOT EQUAL TO THAT OF A 9" X 12" DOCUMENT!!)
HELP!! PLEASE!!
Also, for some reason my Vertical Ruler has COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!! My Horizontal Ruler (on top) is still there but there is no sign of the vertical one which is CRITICAL for aligning the of the content for publication!!
I took an annotated screenshot of what the document that is +*SUPPOSEDLY 9" x 12".*+ But there is +*NO WAY THAT IT IS ACTUALLY 9"12!!*+
I have also taken some screenshots of a few other Inspector Panels and other things that might help SOMEBODY to figure out what the problem is!

Welcome to the forum.
To show your vertical ruler:
+Menu > Pages > Preferences > Rulers > check Enable vertical ruler in word processing documents+
You are right the page does look slightly too high.
The one thing you did not give us was a screen snap of the *Custom Page* you set up in *Page Setup…*
This is what would dictate the actual page size.

Is anyone else having big problems synching with iTunes 11.1.3.8

Hi is anyone else getting the same problems that I get with iTunes 11.1.3.8?
iTunes is VERY slow to load. Then when I try to dowload updates it downloads the first update, then hangs saying "Processing File" It will stay like this until I restart the computer. Sometimes I get the Error Message: Err 3253.
If I try to close iTunes and then reopen it, it WILL NOT OPEN!
I have tried repairing itunes through the Control Panel.
And I have tried deleting and the reinstalling it.
Any help, advice etc gratefully accepted.

Here's a few temporary work-arounds that may work for you, hopefully you don't have a HUGE amount of apps on your iTunes that need updating.
1.) Update all of the apps via your iPhone/iPad and then sync your device with your iTunes, that will update all the apps that you're unable to update via download on iTunes.
2.) If the apps aren't on your iPhone/iPad and you've got the room, redownload them to your iPhone/iPad and sync your device. That will update the apps you're unable to update via iTunes, you can delete them off your phone/pad when you're done updating them on your computer.
3.) Instead of "updating" the apps via the update section of iTunes, make note of what the app is, check that it's still available for download on the store (sometimes stuff gets pulled and you don't want to do this before you check) - once you've confirmed that the app is still available for download, instead of downloading it in the update section DELETE it (remove it entirely from your iTunes and send it to recycle) then RE-DOWNLOAD it fresh from the store, I've found that it's only the update section that hangs on processing, not the store section.
Hope those help, that's what I did because I'm compulsive about keeping my apps and software up to date.

EDIT: i tried to reflash 65CN15WW by using autoexec winflash variables i get message EFI error unsupported BUT after that i only ran winflash.exe and set to only flash new bios option. Then select bios file to flash click on flash new file button and pray
After restart my BIOS still working i don't tested it with 65CN13WW but you can try if it helps.

Sharing imovie with idvd. Having big problems!!!!

I have tried to "share" my imovie project (13.76GB in size, approx 48 minutes duration) with idvd and nothing seems to be happening.
I understand that it will take a long time but it has been exporting for the last 24 hours. I have opened the "project info" window to keep track of the encoding process. After a 24 hour period the encoding bar hasn't filled with any blue to indicate the stage it is at.
I have also made sure the is plenty of space. I read that I need 15-20GB free space. I have 18GB of free space)
Please help me. I thought this part would be hassel free.

The reason I recommend using the import video command from the file menu is so there is no chance of mistakenly dropping your 48 minute video into the drop box or background of your DVD menu. It is very easily done.
So, on with the show..... I can't say what is going on exactly, but please follow these steps and you should be up and running again in no time.
Firstly, restart your computer. Now install and run Onyx (it's a free disc maintenance app, link attached). Open Onyx and run 'Automation'. It will take about 10-15 minutes to do it's thing. While Onyx is running, open a finder window and type idvd.plist into the search box and delete this file. It is the preference file for iDVD. Be sure to delete this file ONLY. And repeat the process for imovieHD.plist and empty the trash. When Onyx has finished you will be promted to restart your computer.
After restart, open your iMovie project and go to the file menu>export or share>Quicktime and change the setting to Full Quality DV. Change the destination to the desktop for ease of finding. It will probably take an hour or so to export as a full quality dv movie and will be around the same size (GB) as your project. If you have 30Gb of free space this won't be a problem.
Now you have a self-contained, uneditable Quicktime version of your project. Now, open iDVD select your theme and then select 'import video' from the file menu and import the Quicktime movie. It should only take a few seconds to import. Then got to the file menu again and save the project (or apple command key + 'S'). And go back to the file menu and select 'save as disc image' and let it run. Don't use the computer while it's encoding the iDVD project and make sure you quit any other apps running and the screen saver too.
Just a final note. After you have exported your project to Quicktime you no longer need the iMovie file. You can delete it, however, you should also export your project back to your camera as another back up copy of your project. I have had some glitches with iMovie projects not seating into iDVD, which were solved by exporting to Quicktime. I never went into why, only how!
These steps should get you going again. It does seem like a lot of mucking around, but after you have it going again it will seem worth it.

Well, on almost every boot, the system hangs, starts beeping wildly, and my LEDs tell me that the system is in "early memory detection" .... What now? I have APACER 512mb ddr(266mhz) ... I just can't understand what's going on here... I've tried almost everything! could someone please help out?

Acording to Msi test report that this ram is not certified. But this may not be the problem. Have you check to see if the ram is seated properly, Also provide the amps on each rails, this will be stated on the psu cover, and the power size of the psu.
I know these boards are power eaters.

I can't even find out what the latest version of iPhoto that might be. All I get is the above splash panel. I am running on the lasest version of OS 10.6.8. What version of iPhoto would be compatable?

Still seem to be in trouble.
It is possible to download only iPhoto, but not allowed for me. I get this splash panel
And I sure don't want to go to OS 10.7.5, that's when all my problems started.

Upgraded iTunes last week since then having big problems with runtime library, uninstall iTunes, tried to reinstall still same problem with runtime library. Any suggestion?

Hi there - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
1) iTunes
2) Apple Software Update
3) Apple Mobile Device Support
4) Bonjour
5) Apple Application Support
Then you restart your computer.
Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
Then you restart your computer again.
Mine is working perfectly again now.

Is anybody else having big problems using the new pages?

Everything has moved and even the help section isn't that helpful. I have been sitting in class for over an hour trying to make a portfolio, but can't because everything is so different. I have no idea how any of the changes are supposed to make it simpler. You can't even save as a word document! Instead there's all this export rubbish. I'm going to fail this class because of the new pages update. I have been putting off this update for weeks but since the newest OS update, everything is automatically updating so I had no choice. Actually make it easier, or make it possible to undo the update.

It's been 7 months since it came out. Didn't you read the reviews in the App Store? Plus all the forum posts here?
