Switcher w/ problems importing MSN email address book

I downloaded ABEE to help with importing my MSN address book to MacMail but it only lists contact names .... no email adresses or other information. Any suggestions to solve this problem?
Thanks, pbee

hi pbbe,
welcome to the forums.
1) log into hotmail
2) at the top left of the screen, next to the word "windows live" there is the word hotmail, when you place the cursor over this word a menu will drop down, chose "contacts"
3) on the left side of the screen there is the word "all contacts" to the left of all contacts there is "manage" click on manage
4) when you click on manage a drop down menu will appear click on "export"
5) the page will change, you will be prompted to type in a list of random letters and numbers, do so, then click the "export" button
6) after step 5, you should be downloading your contacts as a CSV file. open "address book"
7) back up your address book, just in case the import goose wrong. go to the menu bar
8) click on the file menu
9) go to the export option, from the sub menu chose "address book archive"
10) chose some where to save it and do so
11) now that you have a backup, import the contacts. go back to the file menu
12) chose import
13 navigate to the downloaded contacts and click import
you should now have your contacts including your email. But if you don't, you can convert back to your address book backup

My boss just got a new Blackberry and wants to sync her contacts. Unfortunately, she is not very good at making address book entries.
Is there a way to quickly import any email address into Address Book? She doesn't need the everything edited with name, address, etc...since she knows most of these people by their email address more than their first/last names!

They aren't located anywhere. She has all her email messages archived in Mail.app for the last 3 years so she'd like to extract them from there.
Is there some kind of built-in email address list in Mail.app, because it seems to auto complete any email address she types despite it not being in the Apple address book app.

I am using an ipad and the primary account email is aol.  Is there a way to import my aol address book onto my ipad "contacts" app?

Oops, I found the answer to my question. Great knowledge base! I had originally imported via the automatic popup dialog box that appeared when I installed TB, and didn't absorb at the time that there would be a way to do an import later, after TB install, too, and even for specific parts of OE (address book vs. mail messages, etc.).
I pasted the link to the "Migrate to Thunderbird" page that includes how to migrate just an Address Book from OE, but the following is all that pastes in: 9723729938

  • Why does my Verizon email address book use 'Nickname' as key sorting field ?

I'm a new Verizon email user and have just created my Verizon email address book from my Microsoft Office Outlook  (not Outlook Express) Contacts file, using the TrueAssistant application that Verizon provides for folks moving to Verizon from another email ISP. Earlier, a  Verizon Tech Support chat-line staffer assured me  it was NOT possible to move my email contacts from Office to the Verizon address book; I guess he wasn't familiar with TrueAssistant.   :-(
The conversion seemed to go over fine, but when I then looked at my newly-created Verizon address book,  in every case  the last name of each contact was stored in the 'Nickname' field , and the first name was completely missing.  When I manually replaced some of the first names in their proper fields and removed the nicknames, the application didn't know what to do with the contact.
Has anyone else had this problem in using TrueAssistant to move contacts from Outlook into Verzon's email address book?
Is it  even possible to see both the first and last names in the display of the Contacts file (or any sub-Group)? And if so, how do I do it? I don't see any way to specify how I want to display t address book entries. Would appreciate some help. Thanks and Happy New Year!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've never used the TrueSwitch software, but I've never had to. You can export your contacts from Outlook, Outlook Express, etc. into a .csv file and import them directly to your verizon.net account. If you log into your verizon.net account and go to your contacts list there's an Import Contacts button.
If you need any assistance with that process let me know, I can try to provide a step-by-step for your client.
As for sorting by name, this functionality does not appear to be available in the "Basic Interface" of Verizon's webmail. Switching to the "Rich Interface" causes the name to be displayed in a Last, First format and sorting by name is an option.
    Hope this helps!

  • Importing Netscape's address book into Apple's Address Book application

I want to import my email Netscape email address book into Apple's Address Book application. So I open the Address Book application and select import from the pull down menu. That brings up three choices, vCards, LDIF and Text. I previously had saved my Netscape address book as a pdf file. So I selected, Text. A window appeared from which I was to select where I wanted to get the file from. I made selections until I got to where my pdf file was and selected it. But I got the following error message.
The file you selected does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file nor a valid tab delimited file, please choose another file.
So I tried again and this time I selected LDIF, but when the file in my Netscape Users Profile that would appear to be my address book came up, it was “greyed out” and I could not select it. The file had the name “abook.mab”. It is not an LDIF file. There are no LDIF files in my profile.
So I tried selecting vCards, but I got the exact same results as above. The file that looks like it is my address book, is grayed out and cannot be selected.
So I went into Netscape to see if I could export my address book into Apple’s Address Book. I chose export from the Netscape menu and a window opened asking me to select where I wanted to export the file to. But when I got to Apple’s Address Book application, it was greyed out and could not be selected. The same thing happened when I tried to select Apple’s Mail program.
I have about three hundred email addresses in my Netscape address book. If these addresses have to be manually entered into Apple's Address Book, I will not make the switch to Apple's Mail program.

Netscape's Address Book window does not have that option. The Export option is under the Tools menu, but does not give you any options in the Tools menu. Once you select Export, the Export Address Book window opens. This window does have a format option where you can select either LDIF, Comma Separated or Tab Delimited. But it doesn't matter which of those I select, Apple's Address Book and Mail applications are not available for selection.

  • Can't Import Outlook Express address book to Pearl 8100

A friend just gave me an AT&T BB Pearl 8100 and I am using it as a phone only with no data plan (it's a company cell phone but they won't pay for a data plan -- I just put my SIM card in the BB).  I am trying to connect to my personal PC with the USB cable and import my OE address book.  I am using Desktop Manager 4.7, and when I try to synch it a window flashes that says "Synchronization Progress - Processing" for about one second, then that disappears and my phone doesn't get updated. Can someone help me?  I searched for this problem prior to posting but can't find this situation.  I dread having to type them one by one -- any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

  • Outlook 2011 problem syncing contacts with address book

I am aware that Lion has broken the sync ability of Outlook 2011 with Address Book. Hopefullly this will be fixed at some point.
So my problem is that I have decided to use a workaround to get my Address Book contents into Outlook 2011. I am not concerned with further syncing at this point. I just want to get my addresses into Outlook and hope a better fix is offered at some point.
About the only way I could figure out how to do this was to export my Address Book as vCard. I then imported the vCard file into Gmail and then exported that as a CSV file. It contained 550 addresses. I opened it in Excel and it contained 550 rows. Great so far.
I then Imported into Outlook 2011 and chose import a text file. When the mapping window opened, it showed over 890 files instead of 550 and the fields were not mapped correctly. I could not complete the import because it was so screwed up.
So I'm back to square one and very frustrated. There must be others who have the same issue and maybe have figured out a way to do this. Please help.

Is there a way to transfer my Comcast email adress book to my iPhone 4s?

If Comcast does not provide an option to sync your Comcast online contacts with an address book app on your computer, they should provide an option for exporting the contacts to be imported by an address book app on your computer that supports syncing contacts with the iPhone.

  • I have an msn email address and my inbox deletes my emails

I have an msn email address, and on my iPhone and iPad they just start disappearing from my inbox,
and they do not go into my deleted folder. I do not want to switch email address's is there anything i can do?

I'm not familiar with the MSN mail settings, but are they similar to Exchange accounts where it allows you to only sync a certain number of days mail to the mobile device? Could it be that the mail is still accessible via the desktop, but not the mobile? With my work Exchange account, I can set on the iPhone to only sync a certain amount of mail so it does not use too much space on the phone and makes it easier for me to view mail in the inbox.

  • Using MSN email address thru Mac mail

Is there a way to use our msn email addresses ([email protected]) thru the Mac Mail? I called our ISP and they said I could only access it through hotmail - but I would prefer to use Mac Mail. The ISP was unable to tell me an account type etc to set it up. Thanks for any help!

    Hi Kelly-
If you're paying for the premium MSN/Hotmail mail account, this is possible.
You'll probably need to install a plug in for Mail, to be able to use the HTTP settings that MSN/Hotmail uses (it's really designed for Web-Only access, or Windows OutlookExpress...but the plug in gets it working with your mac).
Not repsonsible for problems, but I did get this working on my Mini.

PS-It may not work if you're only getting Free MSN mail account
