Switches and led wiring

I can see that switches was connected to resistor and got a wire from positive ( Own 3v wiring)
While the Led was not connected to positive , directly to the pi pins .
What is the reason behind it ? Is it because the led doesnt need so much power as the switch ?

Thanks Tom it is helpfull but its not so much clear to me yet ,
I tried to upload an image to ask my question in a better way

I ll press solved on this post to not make a duplicate please check out the other post because i think by image its better to understand where is my confusion especially that im not english native and im having difficulties to explain myself here

  • Combining Switch and Time Measurement Start.

    Hello folks,
I´m having troubles solving a problem with a function on my bachelor thesis. My actual plan was to 'activate' some relays (indicated by a LED) simultanously with several checkboxes and some boolean switches (Sync. part), wired with an AND-operator. By 'activating' all relays marked with an checkbox, an measurement with the starttime should be shown on the right side (attached VI - v8.5). At the end of the test, by pressing the stop button, the ending time should be shown.
Now, the 'General'-switch has  'Switch-on-pressed'-properties, that doesn't go along with my stacked sequence to take the time at start/end. The start-button is configured as 'Latch-when-pressed'.
Does anybody know, how I can fix this, so those two switches are connected with each other?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Greetings,
    Andy.

     Hi Andy,
i am not for sure if this is working, cause
some of the subvi's are missing so i can't try, but maybe you could
just create a local variables and connect them with some logic?

  • Problems with SRW224G4 switch and Bridged Network Cards

    Hello,
We have recently installed a SRW224G4 switch and have discovered that when we plug our DELL PowerEdge 2900 server into the switch, the switch loses all network connectivity and all of the LED's on the switch start flashing.
The server works perfectly well plugged into another switch, but as soon as we introduce the SRW224G4 into the network, either with the server plugged into that switch or any other, the problem re-occurs.
The only way we found we could eliminate this issue was if we disabled the Bridged Network connection on the two network cards on the server. If we do that, everything is fine, except the network performance of the server has dropped significantly.
The server is plugged into the 1GB ports on the switch, although we tried it on the 100MB ports and received the same problems. The switch reports that the ports are running at full-duplex.
Has anyone noticed this behavior before, and more importantly been able to rectify it.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    Paul

I had this problem as well with any Linksys 2024 or rackmountable switch..  The trick is, you need to use the network cards management software to "team" or bridged the 2 NIC's otherwise the switch detects a loop and the whole thing locks up. So lame...  Windows built in bridge mode stinks dont use it.  When you use the Intel management software or Dell or HP's NIc management software you have the option to actually choose "redundant mode" where you can pick a Nic to be the primary, or you can choose Load Balancing where you can essentially double your throughput by joining the 2 nics.
In Windows 2008 Server, you actually do this by going to the Properties on the NIC in  Device Manger.  the software controls are now built right into the driver.  pretty neat.  2003 you can check Device Manager the same way but not sure if it's the same as 2008, you might need to run the actual NIC management app.
    Hope this helps

  • Has anyone deployed converged access with 3850 switches and 5760 WLCs?

Has anyone deployed a converged access network architecture with 3850 switches and 5760 WLCs? I have done lots of projects with the 5508 WLCs In a centralized deployment. Basically with this design, I manage 2 logical networks as the wireless network is an overlay over the wired network. I can design firewall to segregate traffic between the wired and wireless hence I can carry both staff and guest traffic.
Now Cisco is telling us that there is new design such that the dats plane traffic can be dropped locally through the 3850 switched. I am not sold on this and have not found any recommended best practices on when should we use a converged access architecture.
    Pros
With converged access, data traffic is terminated at the MA which is on the switches, hence the WLC will not be a bottleneck? This is to prepare adoption for 802.11ac?
Less hops for voice calls from user A to user B as data control traffic is dropped locally.
    Cons
Now how do I segregate guest and staff traffic if my security folks say I need a firewall?
Troubleshooting wireless client mobility will be a nightmare as the 3850 switches are MA.
Pushing and upgrading code for the Code will mean upgrading the stack of switches in the LAN riser. This will be painful in a huge campus environment like an university.
Can someone convince me why would a customer choose converged access?
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

They choose CA because of the capwap termination at the switch. You can still use a 5508 and tunnel guest to a DMZ segment if you wish. You will need a 5508 though is you want to tunnel traffic to an anchor WLC.

  • Which Switch and Router to choose?

I am interested in purchasing a Cisco Switch and Router, or possible a Cisco Switch Router.
However, I am not sure of what model to go with.
Currently, we have a network with about 200 Workstations and 30 Servers for our Corporation Infrastructure.
Also, for our lab, we have about 50 Linux Based Servers, and 30 Solaris Based Servers, that are part of our Network. We are a Research and Development Company, and we have had issues with the Lab machines bringing down our network, as well as our corporate network adversely affecting the lab machines. What we would like to do is segment the network so that the different areas will be isolated. However, we also would like to have a lot of control over the traffic that will be able to cross from our network into the lab so that users will still be able to run their tests.
Security is also an issue, and it would be great to have more control, and a better view of what kind of traffic is running through our network.
Currently, we have about 8 Gigabyte Switches which are unmanaged (Linksys and NetGear). Our idea was to get a 1 or 2 Cisco Switch Routers, and then split them up into VLANS and cascade our current switches so that we can still make use of them. The other ideas was to just get a Cisco Switch and use our CheckPoint Router/Firewall to do the routing.
Can you give me any advice as to what model of Cisco Product you would recommend?
Is it better to go with a Switch Router, or simply get a separate Switch and Router?
Please note that all of our Machines have 10/100/1000 NICs, so the device will need to be Gigabyte.
    Thanks you so much!

You have two choices. Either to use a chassis based solution or to use stacable switches such as a 3750. Are all the cat 5(or 5e,6) runs coming into one centralized location ? Or are there separate wiring closets that you plan to put. If then we need to put separate switches at those locations and run fiber back to the central location which has a chassis based or stackable switch.
If using a chassis based solution, you can get a 4506 (4507 for redundancy, with a redundant supervisor engine). Supervisor engine is nothing but the CPU of the switch. 4506 is a 6 slot modular switch with 2 power supplies for redundancy. You cannot add two Supervisor engines on a 4506 (4507 can).
Slot 1 is always for supervisor engine, the remaining 5 slots you can fill using 48 port 10/100/1000 modules.(48 * 5 = 240). So your maximum port density is 240 ports on a 4506. (Note that there are 4507, 4510 which are similar models with more slots)
If using 3750, you can stack upto 9 switches in a stack using stacking cables on the back side of the switch. Each switch will have 48 ports (10/100/1000) and you can stack 5 switches to get 240 ports.
For the firewall I would recommend using a PIX 515E, (Why go for Checkpoint firewall when you can use all Cisco). For routing between the vlans, the switches that I recommended above are all Layer 3 switches. They will route between the different vlans. You can also configure ACLs to restrict traffic between multiple vlans.

  • Front Panel Bank of Switches and related indicators

I am designing a test system.  I would like a bank of switches on the from panel to turn individual test cases on/off.  I've figured out how to do that.  And I can do individual banks for the indicator (pass/fail) LEDs and the numeric test result field.  But, I'd like to tie them all together.  I'm  guessing I should start by using a cluster rather than an array.  But how to I get the various banks to act as a single group?
As I have it so far, I have a back of switches and a bank of indicators (of switch status) for just playing around.  The indicators do not line up with the switches. I'd like a 1-to-1 correspondence for the operator's ease of use.  When I use "properties" to expand the indicator bank, it won't take the number.  It is internally limited somehow.
    DH
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've got an array of clusters now.  Much better, but not there yet.
In the example provided, all of the indicators are labeled "T1".  I have the same issue with my implementation.  Change one label and it changes them all.  I would like to see "T1, T2, T3, ..." but cannot find a way to do that.  Also, I'd like each type in the cluster to be labeled at the head of the row or column on the front panel.  I can do this by brute force (just create a text field and plop it next to the array.  But I figure there has to be a more elegant solution.  One that ties the pieces together.
    Any thoughts?

  • Connecting USB6343 onboard 5v to AI 4 5 6 7 through 4 switches and AI GND results in floating signals and noise

    Hey,
I am connecting USB6343's onboard 5v source to AI 4 5 6 7 through 4 switches (and AI GND).  This results in floating signals and sinusoidal noise when i close the switches and not the expected 0v / 5v.
I merely want to report on or off for each switch connected to the AI terminals, what very obvious step am I missing?

I'd like to ask further questions, but being new to the forum, I'm not fully familiar with the customs, so please tell me if I should open a new topic or if it's okay, to bundle questions (if related).
The question are: how to extend the described wiring to multiple switches (I need 10)? I attached my assumption as "Wiring 1.png".
And I guess "Wiring 2" wouldn't work as it'd be how the topic-opener artaxerxes did it?

  • Some 2950 switch ports led turn amber even without cable connection

Hello. Due to a likely NIC problem, after connecting my laptop to a port on the 2950 switch, the led turns amber even after disconnecting the cable.
2 ports on the switch are having this problems. Ideally the led should be off when nothing is connected.
Please, how can I correct this problem without restarting the switch because its in a production environment.
    Eddy

    Hello,
which two switchports are amber? Try toggling the port LED modes by pressing the mode button.
    Have a look at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008007e889.html#xtocid41699
for the different port modes meanings and their respective usage of port LEDs.
It would also be helpful to see the port status from the switch CLI in case the procedure above didn´t solve the problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Force Switch Port LED to Blink

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if there is a method of forcing a non connected switch port LED to blink for a certain number of times regardless if there is anything connected.
The purpose of this is we have remote 3750 switch stacks and quite often have to tell non technical staff to patch to a certain port. It would be much easier if we could say "Connect it to the empty port which just started blinking orange" as the port numbers are difficult for them to see in these locations.
A similar feature is available in the ethtool package for linux which makes it really easy for identifying ports on servers. It would be great if a similar feature is available on Cisco switches.
    Thanks,

    Hi Kris,
The Nexus 5K, 7K and MDS platforms allow use of interface beacon mode:
    switch(config)# interface ethernet 3/1
    switch(config-if)# beacon
The beacon mode allows you to identify a physical port by flashing its link-state LED with a green light. At this stage, the feautre is not available platforms. Hope this helps!

  • How do I use switch and case statements to fill more than one other field?

    Hi all,
    I'm new to the community.
I'm trying to make an existing form more user friendly for my coworkers. I want to use a switch and case approach in a drop-down list field so that the selection fills two seperate other fields with different info related to the selection.
I can already do this with one field, but if I add a second target field under an existing case the text doesn't appear there when I make the selection from the dropdown.
Basically, I'm asking if I can do this:
    switch
    (sNewSel){
       case "1": // Selection 1    Row2.Field1
    = "text for field 1";
        Row1.Field2 = "text for field 2";
        break;
    etc.
It works if the "row1.field2" option isn't there, but not when it is present.
    Any takers?

I'm not sure if I will be able to send you the form. There may be too much to redact.
Would this last bit of code in the cell affect anything?
    if
    (bEnableTextField)
    {Row2.Field1.access
    = "open"; // enable field
    Row2.Field1.caption.font.fill.color.value= "0,0,0"; // set caption to black
That is, do I also need to repeat the same thing for the second target cell (Row1.Field2)?
What would be possible hang ups that would prevent it from working correctly?
    Dave
By the way, I'm not sure if my other attachment posted. I am trying again.

  • Screen has a bluish tint after fast user switching and then warning tone

Hi all I'm having a bit of a problem that I hope someone can help me with. First the details, I have a MBP bought in late '07 and running Tiger. I was doing full backups using "Backup" and I also had Safari, iTunes, and Word open. I briefly switched to my other account using fast user switching and when I returned to the original account the whole screen had a blue tint to it. Like the color profile was off. This has happened before and a restart usually cures it, I haven't restarted yet but I am fairly certain it will correct the problem this time too. But is there anyway to prevent this? My second question is the one I'm more worried about. It also has happened before but usually when using more CPU intensive applications. When I went to System Preferences and opened up the display preferences in an attempt to correct the previous problem I heard a very loud tone. Like some type of warning tone, it was loud enough that it startled me. I had iTunes playing and after the tone the music got very quiet but relaunching it brought it back to normal. I'm just wondering is this some type of warning tone? Is it something I should be concerned about? Besides the music everything else seemed unaffected, although the previous times that this has happened usually when using handbrake there was noticeable problems after the tone (like applications crashing). All of these problems are gone after the computer is restarted though. Does anyone have any insight on these issues? Thank you.
    -James

OK I ran TechTool and everything passed except for the volume scan. Then I checked this with Disk Utility and the HD failed for a few minor reasons, like invalid block count. I repaired it using the fsck -fy command in single user mode. The computer seems a little faster now. I don't know if this error is related to the beep in any way, I may try talking to an Apple genius to see if they know. Since it seems like pretty minor errors I'm not too worried about it but it does seem to be happening often. The last time I had this error was when I posted a question here about it which I just checked was on March 1st. So this error happened again after a little more than 2 weeks which seems excessive to me. Any thoughts?

  • How to get "fast user switching" and network shares playing nice

I've been alternating between banging my head against a wall and reading every forum I could find to try and get a reasonable compromise between using "Fast user switching" and sharing a folder from a file server.  It baffles me how the network share/mount model of OSX/AFP is completely killed by fast-user-switching; this is a big problem with Apple requiring users to be actively logged in to share music/video from iTunes which therefore essentially requires fast-user-switching if anyone else wants to use the computer.  (anyone find it odd that you can share files without being logged in, but sharing songs requires an active login for each user who is sharing?  Apple: time to make iTunes sharing a service!)
For the sake of example, lets just say I want to share my /Groups folder from my desktop and have it be accessible to my laptop.  Here are all the things that I tried:
Apple Method 1) Share /Groups in the Server.app on the desktop (running Lion Server), use finder on the laptop and drag the share icon to "Login Items", alternative use a startup Apple script using "mount volume"  Both of the options work and will mount the /Groups folder under /Volumes/Groups, of course when the second person logs in via fast-user-switching (and occasionally the first person for no apparent reason), they will get /Volumes/Groups-1 since /Volumes/Groups is already taken.  Tomorrow we log in a different order and now the previously /Volumes/Groups-1 user has their mount at /Volumes/Group and vice versa.  Any links, aliases, finder sidebar references, and application settings which pointed to yesterday's location are now BROKEN.  Not very user friendly to my mother-in-law who is trying to find those pictures of the kids and doesn't know anything about mount points. I also can't reasonably mirror the file location structure on the desktop so that application preferences that are synced between the two (portable home directories) work.   fail.
Apple Method 2) Use automounter and set up by hand direct maps for /Groups or an indirect maps for the children of /Groups.  Now it will automatically get mounted to /network/servers/SERVER/Groups/ on the laptop and on the desktop it will automatically create a similar symlink structure so that the same path (/network/servers/SERVER/Groups) work both on desktop and laptop.  Cool.  Except when the second person logs in, the /network/servers/SERVER/Groups/ mountpoint is already owned by the first user and they don't have any permissions to access it.  Fail.
Apple Method 3) Use mount_afs and specify directly the mount-points.  Have each user have their own startup AppleScript which mounts /Groups to a different location (e.g. /Users/Shared/username/Groups) that way they don't conflict with multiple users.  On the desktop, set up symlinks from /Users/Shared/username/Group to /Groups so that it will be the same as the client and applications settings will work when synchronized back/forth by portable-home-directories.  Will it work, yes it does, but what a bear to maintain.  Is this really what I should expect to do just to have multiple users on my desktop and laptop (which again is essentially required now if I want to do any type of iTunes sharing).  This can't be what apple expects.
What I ended up doing - the "not quite apple" solution.
Non-Apple Method 4) After a read of "Autofs: Automatically Mounting Network File Shares in Mac OS X" (http://images.apple.com/business/docs/Autofs.pdf) at the very end there is a single paragraph  of "Kerberized NFS": "A Kerberized NFS mount can have multiple connections from multiple users, each using the correct user’s credentials for each transaction. This allows administrators to support multiple users, each authenticated with their own credentials to the same mount point. This is very different from AFP and SMB mounts," (emphasis mine)
It appears that by using good 'ole NFS (abeint with Kerberos for security!) you can actually have multiple users on the same mount point.  Roughly following the guidance at https://support.apple.com/kb/TA24986?viewlocale=en_US.  What I needed to do was:
    1) create /etc/exports on my desktop and add a single line "/Groups -sec=krb5".  The existence of /etc/exports triggered a start of nfsd which no longer has any GUI options in Lion.
    2) Add a line to /etc/auto_master on my laptop "/-  auto_mymounts" to reference a new direct map.
    3) Create /etc/auto_mymounts and add a single line "/Groups         SERVER:/Groups" to create the direct map.
THAT'S IT.  Three lines in three files.
Now when I log into my laptop, there is a /Groups that is a network mount of my desktop's /Groups, same location AND it works for all of my users, even simultaneously.
In the end I'm happy with what I've got, but man was this a difficult path just to support fast-user-switching.  In Lion, Apple appears to be getting away from NFS (no longer turned on by default and remove from the GUI controls) but clearly this really useful functionality which doesn't exist in AFP.
I'm really curious, after all this work.  Any other ways to accomplish this?

In my example above, yes I chose to mount the share "Groups" to the top of the root since that is where I put it on my server and I wanted to keep them similar; but that was just my preference, it isn't a requirement.  You can export and mount from other directories.

  • Home Sharing not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.

Home Sharing is not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.  I installed a new Verizon FIOS ActionTec  MI424WR GigE wireless / ethernet router, replacing the original FIOS router.  With the old router Home Sharing worked fine across and among all iOS and Windows wired and wireless devices.  With the new router Home Sharing works between and among the Wired PC's but not between the wired PC's and the Wireless connected PC's or iOS devices.  Home Sharing also works between and among the wireless connected PC's and iOS decices but not between them and the wired PC's.
Only the router was changed.  No changes were made to any of the devices except all were updated with the latest version of iTunes 10.7.0.21 and the iSO devices were updated to iOS vrsion 6.01.  Three PC's are wired and all are running Windows 7.  There also is a Windows Home Server connected to the router by ethernet port.  It does not run iTunes but does provide WebDAV services to my iOS devices.  This works fine.  Two PC's are wireless, one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8.  All of the PC's are connected to the same (new) router via it's ethernet ports and it's wireless access point.  Two of the wired PC's are connected via a high-speed  ethernet hup that is connected to the router (Home Sharing works fine between the two PC's on the hub and the PC on the router).  All wired and wireless devices on the router are visible and members of the router's Home/Office virtual network.
All of the PC's are visible in the Windows network and all shared files are accessable from all PC's, both wired and wireless.
Obviously the router seems to be the issue, something between the ethernet and the wireless access point components.  I checked the settings and found nothing that would prevent Home Sharing between the wired and wireless devices.  There is no setting that isolates the wireless network.  I have done the following:
Read the router user manual and checked all the settings
    Rebooted the router and tested.
Turned off the router's firewall and tested.
Home Sharing is turned on all the devices and all use the same Apple ID.
    Restarted iTunes and tested.
Verified iTunes is "Allowed" in each PC's firewall.
Again, I can Home Share between the two wireless PC's but not between either of the wireless PC's and any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between my iPads and iPhones and either of the two wireless PC's but not with any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between any of the wired PC's but not between any wired PC and a wireless PC or iOS device.
I hope someone may have had a similar problem and has a fix suggestion.  I'm stumped!  I have a;so contacked ActionTec and awaiting an answer.

    Solution from ActionTec is:
    Log into your router.
    Click the Advanced icon
    Cclick Yes
    Click on the IGMP Proxy
    Select Disable
    Click Apply
