Switches for Access, Distribution, and Core Layer

I have this case study in school and we are tasked to build a network in a school. So we've decided to use the three layer hierarchical model. I'm not sure about what switch is best for these layers but I've decided that I'll use 3750 for the Access layer, 4500E for the Distribution layer, 6500 for the Core layer. Are these the ideal switches for each layer? If not, could you suggest any switch that is better than the current? Need your suggestions or thoughts about this. Thanks in advance!

Hi Seb, thanks for replying. My groupmates and I have already decided that we're going to have a distribution layer. So basically, is 3750 enough to be the backbone/core of the network? We're configuring the to have a Layer 3 design so that makes me choose on 3750 on distrib and core rathen than 2960 switches cause I think that's better than Layer 2 though I don't know specifically what makes it better. Do you know? So I could have a thorough explanation when I present it to my professor. As for the budget, the case study didn't give us any limit so I think layer 3 would be a better choice than layer 3. Thanks Sib, appreciate it.

  • Read Only privileges for Access Server and Identity Server - OAM 10g

    Hi,
I am working on Oracle Access Manager 10g version 10.1.4.
I use an administrative account that is a member of the 'COREid Administrators' group to log into the access console and identity console of OAM.
Since this is the administrative account, it has the rights to modify and update all access/identity entities.
How can I set up an account that has "view only" privileges over all access and identity objects in OAM?
I need to log into the access and identity consoles of OAM and view all policy domains/policies/access system configuration/user manager config/group manager config etc bt not be able to modify any of them.
Is there a way to setup such an account in OAM?
    Regards,
    Abhishek.

    Hi Abhishek,
It is possible to define different levels of administrator, but it is not possible to give an admin read access (to objects in the consoles) without also giving modify access. I do not believe that there is a straightforward way to meet this requirement - for the Access System you could use the Policy Manager API and write your own interface (which does not have the ability to modify) but obviously this would be some development effort.

  • My unit cannot be turned on. I already pressed the switch for 20 seconds and also tried plugging it in. What's wrong? Thanks for the help.

My iPad2 cannot be turned on? I tried first pressing the main switch for 20 secs as suggested but it didn't work. The same with plugging it to a power source? What should I do? Thanks.

Have you tried a Soft or Hard reset?
Also - if you plug it into your computer, can you connect through iTunes?

  • IS-OIL and suitability for Fuel Distribution and Retail Organisation

    Hi Folks,
We have a client who is engaged in the distribution of oil and gas (eg. Forecourt Operations, Home Heating etc). They are considering implementing an SAP ERP system but would like to know if IS-OIL is suitable.  In particular, can it be integrated with Point of Sale terminals in the forecourt, and is it suitable for the retail side of operations (ie. Selling additional products from the forecourt - eg groceries etc).
Also, is it possible for an organisation to implement both IS-OIL and IS-RETAIL together?  If so, does anyone have any experience or examples of where this was done?
    Thanks and regards,
    Jules

    Hello Jules,
IS-OIL has an addon product called Service station retailing which deals with retail business on oil in petro stations. This can be integrated with forecourt systems.Example, the sales flow, the physical stock at service station etc can be sent periodically from point of sale system to R/3.
Service station retailing deals with the retailing of bulk materials like fuel. A provision was made so that IS-Retail data will flow to the IS-OIL system. Depending on whether it is dealer owned or company owned, it can be further handled.
But with ERP 6.0 release, you can turn on two industry solution switches i.e both IS-OIL and IS-Retail. This is being tested now.
    Best Regards,
    Soumya

  • Global Switches for Frame Blend and Motion Blur aren't working with the newest version of After Effects 2014.1.1

I have been using After Effects regularly since 1995. So this isn't an operator error.
I am on a new Mac Pro six core with OSX 10.9.5 and 32 gigs of RAM.
Is anyone else having trouble with activating frame blend and motion blur?
Occasionally I am able to get the global switch to appear to be on. It still won't activate motion blur or frame blend.

I'll answer my own issue. The global switches actually work. The distinct dark boxes that indicate when the global switches are enabled have been removed and replaced by a light blue outline of the switch icon.

  • No off switch for diagnostic usage and location services

When you click on diagnostic usage in settings there is a link to a privacy statement. It says you can turn off location sevices in diagnostic usage by going to setting locations system services. Guess what there is no entry for diagnostic usage. So either you use diagnostic usage with location or not at all. Why???
    Also what is iAds???

I copied this from this site.
    http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/threads/what-is-the-location-based-iads-on- my-ip4s-for.81572/
    This from Wikipedia:
iAd is a mobile advertising platform developed by Apple Inc. for its iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad line of mobile devices allowing third-party developers to directly embed advertisements into their applications. Announced on April 8, 2010, iAd is part of Apple's iOS 4, originally stated for release on June 21, 2010, the actual date change to July 1, 2010 was announced at Apple's June 7, 2010 keynote, with an iPad version appearing in the fall. Hosted and sold by Apple, the iAd platform is expected to compete with Google's AdMob mobile advertising service.
Similar to AdMob, iAd facilitates integrating advertisements into applications sold on the iOS App Store. If the user taps on an iAd banner, a full-screen advertisement appears within the application, unlike other ads that send the user into theSafari web browser. Ads are promised to be more interactive than on other advertising services, and users will able to close them at any time, returning to where they left their app. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has indicated that Apple will retain 40% of the ad revenue, in line with what he called "industry standard", with the other 60% going to the developers. iAd is expected to benefit free applications as well.
Apparently you are correct about that diagnostics setting. I can't find it either - but I have a tendency to not be very observant! :)

  • Connect Eternet Switch (for hardwired connections) AND WRT54G2 to WET610N

    Hello,
In my main office, I have a cable modem which is connected to my main E4200 router. All of my equipment (except my Ooma) is served by the E4200. The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network.
In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 signal from upstairs isn't strong enough to stream video.
I bought the WET610N and have successfully set it up to interact with the E4200 wirelss network. I can hardwire my laptop to the WET610N and verify the internet works great.
However, the Wii must connect over wireless. I have other equipment in the basement which would benefit from an internet connection. So, I want to A) connect the ESXS88W 10/100 8-port workgroup switch I have to the WET610N *AND* also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming the wireless network I see in the basement is the same "old" one from upstairs which has not benefited from the WET610N).
How can I set up my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so that it leverages the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while also having the workgroup switch offer hardwired connections to my other equipment (like Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by just plugging the WRT54G2 into the workgroup switch.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

if i'm correct, your setup looks like this:
    E4200 ( ( ( ) ) ) WET610N-----EZXS88W
*wireless connection indicated by parentheses and wired connection indicatd by dashes
if you want to connect a WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless network in your basement, you'll have to connect this router (using port 1,2,3 or 4) to your switch. you'll have to change the WRT54G2's IP address to 192.168.1.2 so that it doesnt conflict with the E4200; then disable its DHCP server (since the E4200 is already the DHCP server).
    that should do it.

  • Form for Patients, distribution and HIPAA Regulations

If I had a new patient form that I wanted specific people to get whenever a new one was filled out, what kind of options are currently available, and what kind of security can be provided, to keep it within HIPAA Regulation.

    Hi,
    FormsCentral is not HIPAA compliant.
You can read about the security of our service here: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1384
On your first question, we recently added support to send Notification emails to any/all users the form is shared with, so we do support your request, but are not HIPAA compliant.

  • /3 Gb switch, Windows Server 2003 and no imagecfg.exe!

The Imagecfg tool is not provided in the support toolkit for Windows Server 2003. How do I then implement the /3 Gb switch for oracle.exe and tnslsnr.exe as has been recommended in Metalink notes 116076.1 and 46001.1?
Also does this not appear a bit confusing:
    Note 1036312.6 states:
On Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition 4.0, Microsoft provides the 4GT (4GB
RAM Tuning) support so an application can utilize up to 3GB virtual memory
instead of the 2GB limit as it used to be.
The Windows NT service pack 3 provides the same feature but is not officially
    claimed in the SP3 readme.txt.
The Oracle 8.0.3 release and higher have already been enabled to take
    advantage of the new feature.
However a more recently updated note (46001.1) states:
    d) Configuring the Oracle process to make allocations greater than 2GB
The Oracle database supports the 4GT tuning feature of Windows NT Server,
Enterprise Edition from release 7.3 onwards, allowing it to access up to 3GB
of virtual address space per instance. It may be the case that certain
releases / patch sets do not have the 4GT flag set even though the release
does support the feature. To check the executable has been correctly enabled
    run :
    imagecfg oracle.exe
oracle.exe contains the following configuration information:
    Subsystem Version of 4.0
Image can handle large (>2GB) addresses
    Stack Reserve Size: 0x100000
    Stack Commit Size: 0x1000
For executables that do not have the flag set, run :
    imagecfg -l oracle.exe
The above settings will only take affect if the boot.ini has been set up as
    described in Note 46053.1.
So, do we really require to run the imagecfg utility (which is no longer provided in 2003 server support tool package) for versions higher than 8.1.7? Which tool should I then use instead of imagecfg for Windows Server 2003?

I think one of the reasons behind those Notes is that in older releases support for the feature existed and despite 7.3.4 or 8.0.3 and onwards had the capabilities, some patch sets or patches "forgot" this. The first Note you references says
"There may be a case where you are running 8.0.4.3.7 on NT and the 3gig address issue required the use of imagecfg to access the larger address space. One major reason might be the fact that patch sets may have brought in an executeable without the flag being set."
Sometimes it can be really hard to get notes on metalink to add upp, maybe mostly because there is so much info to maintain and cope with...
I dont think you should worry much about it. In any case, the developer/vendor who controls the code need to make sure the program is in reality large address aware and set flags accordingly.
If you want to check, to report something back to Oracle Support, there is dumpbin.exe to verify image header available in Visual Studio. Dont know of a public alternative.

  • Recommended switch for uc320

Since the ESW's are end of life what switch is recommended for use with a UC320w?  I know it at least needs to be a 200 series, but what is the difference between the SG and SF?  I do not need a POE switch or Gigabyte.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy
Love the 300 series product, can't say I have tried the 200 series product, but the firmware base is almost identical..
Having used the 300 series product, well I'll let Kevin Tolly, head of the Tolly group say it..
(Check out the Full Tolly reports by clicking here; )
SF and SG are acronyms for  Switch Fast Ethernet or Switch Gigabit Ethernet, which relates to access ports maximum speed on the switch. Since you mention you don't need Gigabit Ethernet, why not look at the SF200 or SF300 series switches. 300 series product has more management capabilities and functionality compared to the 200 series, but these differences can be seen in their  datasheets..
SF200 or preferably the SF300 series switch is the way to go on UC320W solutions. With the new free firmware version 1.1.1.8, both series switch automatically configures the voice services on the switch for both UC320W and UC5XX voice platforms.. .Check the CCA datasheet for two exceptions within the 200 series family.
A Partner resource call Smart Designs, shows validated applications tested within Cisco. The Validated Smart design for UC320W shows the ESW series switch as a preferrred switch for UC320W. But  we know that the ESW switch will be the replacement by the 200 and 300 series product.
This plug and play functionality found on the 300 series switch, saves installation time and reduces the solution installation complexity to a plug and play exercise.
If the end user out grows the UC320W, all phones and switches can migrate up to a UC500 for this same plug and play functionality. .
    So check out and compare the SF200 or SF300 series models at the following location;

    regards Dave

  • Switch for String

    Hi,
I need to do a switch for a String and not an int.
    ex:
    switch(String temp=e.getTagName().trim())
    case HEADER:
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Cecile

You cannot. Java only lets you use switch on int or char.
Sorry, but only the if else will do here
