Switching basic phone and smart phone between members of family plan.

I am considering switching my basic phone with my son's smart phone.  He would like to have my phone under his current number and vice versa.  I have found the online instructions through My Verizon.  He is the only one in the family plan with a smart phone (the rest of us are all basic phones). Do you think Verizon will automatically switch my son's data package to my number? or will I have to contact verizon/go into a verizon store to do so?
This excerpt from the instructions makes me think phone calls and/or visit to the verizon store may be necessary:
"switch devices between two compatible plans on your account. Each person keeps their phone number and plan, but will have the swapped device."
Since I have a basic phone with no data package, are our plans non-compatible?
Thanks!

You can still switch phones.  The only problem I see is if he currently has an unlimited plan in which case that may be lost and you'll need to choose the 2, 5 or 10GB plan for your line. Probably best to just call customer service from a different device to make sure everything gets set up correctly.

  • Suddenly a problem phoning from my iPhone 5s to my partners phone (not smart phone)

I have been using my iPhone 5s without trouble but since my partner has bought a new phone (not smart phone - same number but new moblie provider) I can send text messages but cannot make a call to her. I get a voice telling me her number is not in service. Her brother has same problem form his iPhone. Is this a fault with her mobile provider or is it something in settings on my phone? Any suggestions??

I would contact your mobile provider. I had a similar problem a number of years ago when attempting to call one number (not from an iPhone) and the provider was able to identify and resolve the problem on their end.

  • Upgrading a basic phone to smart phone without 'Share Everything'

I have older Family Share Plan containing basic phones, as well as smart phones (with tiered 2GB/$30 monthly data). When they are eligible for upgrade, will any new smart phones added to the plan be able to receive the same 2GB/$30 data that other phones currently on my plan receive?
The more unreasonable options seem to be requiring every single person on the plan to switch into Share Everything, or booting the person looking to get a smartphone out of the plan. Neither of these are a viable option.
Thanks for any help clearing this up!

The $30 per month is for 2 GB of data, in addition to whatever you are paying per month for voice/text/insurance/taxes, etc.  When you do switch, if you aren't aware of it, do it on the first day of your billing cycle so that you don't run into proration.
And some people are reporting that some Corporate stores try to convince people that they'll save money on the Share Everything plan.  Some will save money, some won't.  Just do your homework, know what plan you want, and read your new contract before signing!

  • Java Micro Edition and Smart Phone Programming

I have successfully installed Java 2 Micro Edition 8.1 on my computer, and the Micro EditionNnetbeans plugin in.
I am programming with netbeans.  In order to create a new project, I need to have the
Java ME Embedded Emulator (Oracle) going on a near-enough virtual mobile phone. I can either
virtualise my phone entirely, or used a real phone plugged in.
-Is there a command line tool that comes with my version of micro edition java
which can generate a JAD file from a completed, manifest-written executable
    .Jar file?
-Can someone tell me what to do with the emulator to get it running in either mode,
given that I know all the manufacturing details about my particular Smart Phone?

It depends on how advanced the midlet will be. If standard components are used, the app should work everywhere, otherwise it need to be tested (it need to be tested always). If You need to write a midlet with Location API You first need to find a device that has this api implemented to test your application and the start writing. One importatnt thing, if a device in it's specification has written that it support Location API it doesn't have to mean that it's supported fully, some functions may not be implemented. As You can see here for instance. If You are not familiar with midlets start with a tutorial for beginners and after finishing try using more advanced APIs.

  • My tablets and smart phones connect to the printer as if it was a router bypassing my router

    Deskjet 3520
What happens is when the wireless devices connect to the printer they are not connected to the internet. Unfortunately if I block the connection, I can no longer print wirelessly. I suspect that someone smarter than me can figure out a solution.
    Thanks

We usually print from the cloud because of our tablets an cell phones, but we can print through the network.
The printers are on the same home network.
My tablets and cell phones see the printer as a different wireless service (router) since the printer was in the same room as the router there were situations that the printer signal was slightly stronger than the router so they connected.
update: I moved the printer into another room some distance from the router and the problem is now solved, my tablets etc. no longer change from my router.
    Thank you,

  • Business Catalyst and Smart Phones

If I make a site in Muse then uplaod it to Business Catalyst can I make it Smart phone compatable from Business Catalyst?

    Hi Gabriel,
In order to make it compatible for smartphones from Business Catalyst you will have to design the pages or template for smartphones. Business Catalyst simply lets you design the templates for mobile devices separately.
The pages created in Muse will not be rendered smart phone compatible by business catalyst.
Also, that will not be backwards compatible with Muse. So, next time you publish through Muse, changes will be gone and you will have to make the changes again.

  • Which switch for POE and 7940G phones?

I have 2 (and maybe soon 5 more) 7940G phones to add to my network, which already has a Netgear POE capable switch. I've since discovered that early Cisco POE isn't the same thing as current POE, and the switch doesn't power the phones.
I was looking at adding a Cisco SD208P 8-port switch to power the phones, but I soon discovered it only has 4 POE ports, and I'm not sure that this switch will even power the 7940G phones. And if the other 5 phones show up, I'll need two of those switches with no room for expansion on the voice network.
Will this switch power those phones?
Is there another small switch available so I don't have to replace my existing switch infrastructure to get these phones to work? Or do I need to scrap the phones and get something newer that will work with the current POE standards?

    Will,
I would look at the ESW520 8 port switch, it will power the phones and will have the "*" VLAN's already setup in them.
Side note "*": This assumes that you are using VLAN100 and Cisco Voice system for the switch
    Have a great day

  • Can I Activate New Phone Without Changing Plan? Smart phone to Smart Phone

I have a Droid Incredible and while I am waiting for some new Windows Phones to come out next year, I thought I would try a Trophy for a while. Im eligible for a discount May of next year.
I was going to get an HTC Trophy off of Ebay and use it instead of my Incredible while I wait for better Windows phones. Is this as simple as calling and activating the Trophy when I receive it and no longer using my Incredible?  Ive had the unlimited data plan since I first got the Incredible a year and a half ago. So I would expect nothing should change with my plan and this should be straight forward.
Am I correct in this or is Verizon going to give me problems and make me change my contract?

I would like to upgrade my son's phone, but I don't want to pay for a smart phone and a data package. All of the "basic" phones that Verizon offers now have terrible ratings (and not to mention that there aren't very many phone choices.)  I have an older blackberry, and I was thinking about letting him have that for a while and transfer the number over. Will I have to get a data plan if I give him my old blackberry?

  • Upgrading from a feature phone to smart phone

I have a feature phone with a 75mb data plan that is pre share everything plan and we are not interested in switching to the share everything plan.  I'm wondering what I have for options for a data, if anything, if I want to upgrade to a smart phone.  I will not be upgrading my line, just buying a phone second hand.  Any insight would be helpful.

You can stay on your old plan even with an upgrade. The only ones that had to buy a phone at full price are the ones on Unlimited. Anyways the data options for smartphones with the old pricing are 2 GB for $30, 5 GB for $50 and 10 GB for $80. Overages are $10 per GB.

  • After downloading iOS7 on my work phone, all of my personal iMessages come in on both my personal phone and work phone.  How do I turn this off?

I recently updated my work iPhone to iOS7 and now all of my iMessages from my personal phone are also coming in to my work phone.  How do I turn this off?  I only want my iMessages to come in to my personal phone.

You can either turn off iMessage on your work phone, use a different Apple ID for iMessage on it (by going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID), or go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive on your work phone and uncheck your personal phone number under "You can be Reached by iMessage at".

  • Feature phones and multimeadia phone..new catagory

I read somewhere that Verizon will be doing away with the multimeadia catagory of phone and putting then into the Feature phones catagory...and getting rid of the 9.99 data plan.   We should be able to buy a good touch phone without having to pay for ANY data plan.
Anyone know if it's true about this upcoming change?

Can someone honestly tell me how long it would actually take to use up the 150MB of usage? I use their little data calculator and it says for each category you try to figure out for “each day”. So does this mean if I go out to 5 web pages per day I will use 58.59MB of data per month, because this is what the total tells me?
    Thanks
Unfortunately, there is no way to tell as various web pages are various sizes.  As an example, on game day nfl.com has a "Scores" page that automatically refreshes every 5 seconds.  (meaning that you are re-downloading the entire contents of the page every 5 seconds, or going through approximately 600KB every 5 seconds (or 1 MB in 10 seconds, 6 MB per minute, just over 1 GB in the course of a 3 hour football game).  The site has the ability to alter this setting (and also offers a "Mobile" version of the page which is much smaller), but since the phones have a full HTML web browser, you could easily use the full page intended for the desktop/laptop users. Streaming music sites will also burn through data at a very quick rate as they are constantly downloading data from the internet.
Many sites have "mobile" versions which are more "data conscience" and don't download as many graphics and Java applications and thus won't go through data nearly as quickly as the "Full versions", but there is simply no way to tell for sure how much you'll use until you actually use it.  My suggestion would be to get the "Unlimited" plan for the first couple of months and use VZW's site to see how much data you're actually using, and then determine if you can stay under the 150 MB limit of the limited plan.  (Especially since going just a single KB over the 150 MB limit will end up costing you as much as the unlimited plan.)

  • Query re dect phone and wired phone on same line

Quite long winded but wonder if someone could help please.
I had a dect phone plugged into the master socket. Due to working from home and need for better functionality than the dect phones could give me I bought a Converse 2300 wired phone and plugged it into the master socket.
I then moved to dect base unit to an extension socket in another room.
The dect phone when plugged into the master socket always showed caller ID.
The Converse which is now plugged into the master socket also shows caller ID.
However, I'm having a couple of problems with the dect phone I've relocated to the extension socket.
Firstly, I get a dial tone on the dect phone but when I try to dial a number I hear the key tones but it then just goes back to the dial tone rather than actually dialling the number.
Secondly, caller ID is not displayed on an incoming call on the relocated dect phone - instead the screen just says 'External'. Called ID is however displayed on the wired Converse phone.
I suspect there's a setting somewhere on one of the phones but I can't for the life of me work it out. Or do dect and wired phones not work together on the same line?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, it sounds like there could be a wiring fault with the extension socket, there would not he any settingsbon a phone that would solve the problem. Is there broadband on the line? If so try changing the ADSL filter.

  • Is there a Calendar App that works with both Blackberry phones and Android phones ?

I just recently got a Blackberry Z30 phone.  My husband has an LG Optimus G Android phone.  Does anyone know if there is a Calendar App that will work on both phones so that we can send appointments to each other that will load into our respective calendars?  Right now, we each have to enter the events into our individual phones. I love the Blackberry Calendar (RIM) that came preloaded on my phone since you can customize recurrences, e.g. every 3 weeks plus you can have day, week and month views.  I definitely want a calendar with the customizable recurrences feature, which my husband's Android Calendar App does not have. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You Both can Add one email Account on Both Phones and then sync the Calender With Email - This way when one will add a reminder or event it will automatically synced to the other
