Switching between 2 iphoto libraries...

I went to the genius bar & they made me 2 iphoto libraries so I could keep my new and old photos separate and it was meant to be quite simple to be able to switch between the 2 but I don't know how! Can anyone help?

What is the difference between switching between Iphoto libraries.....

...using iphoto and iphoto08? I ask because right now I have iphoto (what ever the latest before 08) i have so many photos i had to add some libraries, which by the way was not easy. Then to switch between libraries i have to close iphoto hold options button and click on iphoto then it tells me to choose a libary. When i try to choose it does not show all of my libraries. I also don't think I can have mulitipal libraries open at the same time. With iphoto 08 can I have more than one open and is it easier to find libraries and switch between them? Please help. I have quit using my iphoto be cause i am so frusterated!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As LH recommended the free version of iPhoto Library Manager will let you quickly and easily move between multiple libraries. I use iPLM to manage over 15 libraries and can move between them in a flash like this. Once you add a library to iPLM you can just use iPLM to open that library without having to go thru the Option key method and trying to remember where the library is located. Much faster with iPLM.
If you need to copy photos between libraries and keep the keywords and comments intact you can with the paid version of iPLM.
I do have one library that's 20,000+ photos in size and don't have any problems with it. However, you should have a backup plan for your libraries.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Switching between multiple libraries

So heres the deal. I have a 30G Video and my father has a 30G Video also. He likes his music the way it is and I do too. I have heard that you can create multiple libraries so you dont have to create different Login names (windows, we both share one computer.) So the thing is, how do you switch between those libraries? I tried just opening the library but all that does is add my library to the current one.
How can I swith between multiple libraries with ease and without messing any of the music in them up.

I succesfully created two separate iTunes libraries on my computer (windows XP) for the iPods of me and my girlfriend. But, how can we switch easily back and forth between the different libraries?

Unfortunately you can only choose your Library at startup. So the only way to switch Libraries is to close iTunes ...

How do I change between iPhoto Libraries when I am importing pics to another website?

When I import pics to my website I click on Import photos and the standard apple screen (Firefox Edit in menu bar) comes up so I click on Pictures, then iPhoto, then Events and choose the individual photos, but only the one library shows there. I do know how to change between the libraries when opening the iphoto library by using the options tab, but that does not work in this instance?

Correct - that is not how you access your photos
You use the media browser in the lower left hand corner of the upload window under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto

Moving albums between iphoto libraries

I have three iPhoto libraries on my mac book pro. I have created albums and events in each and want to consolidate the albums to a single Iphoto library.
How do I do that?

If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($30) version of iPhoto Library Manager

Moving Photos Between iPhoto Libraries

I have established a second iPhoto library but an not clear on how to move photos from the original library to the second library. Seems it should be simple - from the original library I highlight the photos to be exported to the second library, then click "export", but the export to the second library doesn't happen. Also, while in the second library I tried to import the highlighted photos from the original library, but that didn't work either. I have iPhoto 6.0.6 Can anyone help?

You cannot export directly into another iPhoto Library folder, because all files must be imported in order to be recognized by the database. Don't ever try to manipulate your files directly inside the iPhoto Library folder. Importing photos from one library into another will get you the photos, but strip them of their albums and other library metadata.
The only way to move photos between libraries and preserve albums, keywords, and other metadata is to use iPhoto Library Manager. It will save you a lot of work.

9.3GB of "Other" data on iPad, after switching between iTunes libraries

I have a New iPad, and there's 9.3GB occupied by "Other" storage I can't seem to get rid of.
Here's some background that may be relevant.
I recently bought an iPad, connected it to my Mac and synced the Music library.
I later switched to a PC, and wanted to connect the iPad to my new PC (and never again to my Mac). The PC has a different Music library.
When I first connected the iPad to the New PC, it asked me whether it's ok to completely erase the previous library and resync this one. I confirmed. I then went to choose specific playlists to sync (a total of ~60 songs, much less than 10GB).
Ever since, I have this big chunk of Other storage occupied.
After searching a bit online, I saw a recommendation to download iExplorer. Playing with it showed me that under Media-->iTunes_Control-->Music I have many libraries (F00-F49) full of MP3s. Seems like here lies the problem. But I don't know if I can delete them.
What should I do?

If "Others" is unusually large, you may have something that is corrupted.
A Restore is recommended.
Do a search and you'll find many discussions on this problem.

Why must I quit iTunes to switch between iTunes libraries?

Whichever user's iTunes was launched first "hogs" AppleTV's available connection until quit.
"Can't connect" is Home Sharing's middle name. Odd that the libraries can always be seen however.

I was wrong. Quitting iTunes for the other user didn't let me connect to the library I wanted. Time to reboot the computer in order to switch libraries.

Import Movie clips between iPhoto libraries.

I need to import iPhoto movie clips from one iPhoto library to another. I was successful to share the library and import the photos but the movie clips taken with my iPhone do not show up to import. Please help.

There is no way to share movie clips.
Either export them to the Finder and then import them to the other Library or use iPhoto Library Manager

Copy Facebook albums between iPhoto libraries?

My iPhoto Library recently became "unreadable" and I essentially have to start over from scratch with a new library. Is it possible to copy/transfer my iPhoto Facebook albums to my new library? I have iPhoto Library Manager: will that help?
If this isn't possible, should I keep my "corrupt" library? Will my Facebook albums get erased off of Facebook if I delete it? As of now they are still fine on Facebook.

Why not try to fix the problem??
Best is to load your backup
If you do not have one (if you do not you will lose all of your photos - and other files sooner or later)
Or backupyour iPhoto library and depress the option and command keys and repair it - if that does not do it then use the rebuild options
last resort is to user iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and rebuild

Is it possible to transfer "projects" (calendars, photo books, etc.) from one iPhoto library to another? I know I can transfer events and albums, but don't know about projects.

Transferring a custom slideshow between iPhoto libraries

Is there a way to transfer a custom iPhoto slideshow from one iPhoto library to another. The only way I see is copying the whole library and then deleting everything except the slideshow itself. That is not only a very time consuming process, it doesn't allow to incorporate the slideshow into an exiting iPhoto library as well.
Any tips welcome.

The straight answer is, I'm afraid, no.
What you can do is export the slideshow as a Quicktime movie, but that won't be editable in the other iPhoto.
Other apps that have slideshow capability and iPhoto integration include PhotoToMovie and PhotoPresenter .

Why must I reboot my Mac to switch between iTunes libraries?

AppleTV 2 can always see the libraries but choosing "the wrong one" gives me the error message about not being able to connect.
We have two OS X user accounts, different iTunes libraries, both setup with the same AppleID. I have to reboot my Mac and launch the desired user's iTunes first in order for my AppleTV 2 to connect to whicever iTunes library I want. When I want to watch something from the other user's library I have to repeat the process but launch that other user's iTunes first.
Whichever user's iTunes gets launched first after a reboot is what AppleTV can use. Whichever iTunes gets launched secondly can't be used by AppleTV. User login order doesn't matter and logging out/in without a reboot won't help. Ethernet vs. WiFi doesn't matter. My 5th-gen AirPort Extreme isn't a variable here. None of Apple's suggested fixes work.
The above has been occuring for over a year, so the involved OSes are 10.6/10.7 and whatever applicable versions of iTunes and AppleTV 2 software (I stay current on everything.)

And now it's currently working correctly and I didn't edit any settings anywhere.
