Switching between documents in Pages

I am in the habit of working with multiple Pages documents at once and must manually click "Window" to move to the other document. I know that if I need to switch to another application I can use "Command + Tab", however is there a way to switch between documents in Pages other than using the "Windows" menu?

Hi jordalex325
Welcome to the forum.
The function is a +system wide function+ so you find it in the Finder:
+Menu > Window > Cycle through Windows+
In English the shortcut shows as +command `+ on the menu, look in the same menu in Swedish and see what it suggests there.
*Swedish keyboard*

The ` key is on the top row, far right and combined with the shift key.
Amendment: On closer examination this is actually a PC keyboard. I am trying to source a Swedish Mac Keyboard image, so far unsuccessfully. Maybe you could tell us what is different meanwhile.

You could try that or try remapping the shortcut in:
+System Preferences > Hardware > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts+
Peter
PS Try opening +Show Keyboard Viewer+ from your input menu on the top right of the menu bar and see what characters are where when you type.

  • Switching between documents

I used cmd+` to switch between documents many times, yet all of a sudden the short cut does not work any more. No problem with other cmd short cuts. Could anyone be of help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Keyboard shortcut for switching between documents?

  • Hotkey for switching between open html pages similar to Apple+Tab for apps

Is there a hotkey combination which can switch between open html documents in the same way Apple+Tab switches between open applications?
In Windows it is possible to switch use ALT+TAB to switch between various open Firefox windows which are displayed as options along with other open applications -- but OSX seems to limit choices only to applications, and not their various windows. ?
    Thanks

Hmm...sorry...just switched yesterday afternoon...this combo though doesn't seem to be working for me in either Firefox or Safari...tried Command+< also with the SHIFT key for '<' but to no avail.
Mind if I ask a two more simple questions though? How can the touchpad be setup to automatically register a click by tapping on the touchpad rather than the button beneath it...and...is there a hotkey combo which would take a person back to the beginning of a text field, similar to 'Home'? Haven't yet figured out how to make the arrow with "home" on it actually send the cursor back to "home"...
    many thanks

  • When I switch between tabs the page jumps down about 20 lines. Why? And how do I stop this?

    I am running on Mac, OS X 10.9.1 .
When using Firefox if I switch between tabs or open a new tab from a link the page will jump down about 20 lines. This does not happen on all websites. Most notably on Facebook, but a bunch of other sites do it as well.
    Help would be nice.
    Thanks

  • Network activity when switching between documents

We have a user with InDesign CS5.5 on a Mac. Here's the scenario:
-The user has a document with many linked images in multiple libraries (document is stored on the network).
-The user opens a second document or a blank document.
When the user switchs from the blank document to the "big" document, it takes 5-7 seconds to switch over. Opening the Activity Monitor in Mac OS shows that a lot of network activity is going on during the swtich between documents. It looks like it re-downloads the whole document each time. Switching from the "big" document to the blank one is pretty instantaneous. Is something trying to "update" the whole document each time the user switches tabs?

That's what I'm thinking, but it wasn't doing that before and isn't doing it on other computers.

  • Problem switching between documents

Since i updated from Flash CS3 to CS5 adobe removed the its ability to jump between documents using keyboard shorcuts. Before it was possible to use MacOS X's nativecommand ( "cmd + <" ) to get to the next document, but now it isnt.
Photoshop atleast added a new keyboard shortcut (ctrl + tab) that made it possible to that while in tabbed window mode.
I've googled for a long while but couldnt find any solutution to this.
So if you know how to solve this i'd be very happy.

Perhaps you should try another app to manage your code outside Flash such as the very popular FlashDevelop? It is a windows app but many people run it virtualized. It has much better code completion in my opinion. I had issues with selecting text in Flash's actionscript panel. I have no idea why but every time I put my cursor at the beginning of a line and hold shift while pressing down to highlight lines of code I want to copy it would wrap my selection too far down to the next line. EXTREMELY irritating to me. FlashDevelop became my favorite until I got Flash Builder.
You can also check out FDT. Eclipse can be used with a plugin which I hear is similar to Flash Builder but I never tried it. Ultimately try other code dev environments. You'll probably find that Flash's actionscript panel is quite terrible.

  • Error when switching between drafts: "The instruction at "0x009f6487" ...

Running Contribute CS3 and get this error frequently when switching between documents in the Draft Console:
The instruction at "0x009f6487" referenced memory at "0x06bd7a24". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program
I do not get this error any other time. Only when editing multiple documents and switching between them. Clicking Save for Later on the toolbar, instead of clicking directly on the document in the Draft Console does not help.
Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

Can you please try clearning the Contribute preferences?
To Clear the preference, quit Contribute, and then delete the Contribute CS3 folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\ and also run the following command " reg delete "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Contribute 4.1" /f " if you are using Contribute CS3. Reconnect to the site and try the same scenario.
Note that, if you clear the preferences then no connection will be listed in Contribute, you need to recreate the connections. It will be like a fresh installation.

  • How to change Switch between open documents keyboard shortcut (default Control + Tab or Cmd + ~)

I use Control + Tab and Control + Shift + Tab or Cmd + ~ and Cmd + Shift + ~ to switch between tab back and forth alot how do I change the shortcut to something else?
    On Photoshop CC 2014 mac

No, there isn't. you can't even set your own shor cut keys as you don't know what the documents will be named. Normally you can add short cuts keys but only for those menus options that already exist but your documents will change. I have searched for the answer earlier as I also want it.
There is in the Pages Help menu an option for  Keyboard shorcuts but nothing is mentioned ther about changing document windows.

  • Switching between page layout and word processing

I can't seem to switch between page layout and word processing view.  I've read all the posts on this and still can't figure out why I can't just type a document into Pages.  The only option I have in page layout view is to type into text boxes, which is not what I want.  I just want to type a letter for crying out loud.
Before I get all the rants about reading User Guides, etc.  *I have*.  I've also searched on here and in-app help and just don't understand the fuzzy/non-existant answers.  Obviously, I'm a newbie, so please don't jump all over me for this.  If it was Word - I could do this in NO time.  I just find it incredibly frustrating that inputting a normal document should be so difficult.
Is "Pages" *not* a word processing program?  Is it just a cut and paste application?  Sorry for the tone - I mean no disrespect - it's just that I've been fooling around with this for DAYS and I just don't have time to spare anymore.  I really need to get this done.
Can somebody give me a straightforward answer on how to just type a normal document into pages without using text boxes?
Thanks and I apologize for not being mac-savvy.  It took some of us a lot longer to see the light =)

Here is a script doing the conversion task for you.
    Open a Page Layout document
    run this script:
    --{code}
set p2t to (path to temporary items from user domain) as text
set path_2_doc to p2t & (do shell script "date +_%Y%m%d_%H%M%S.doc")
    tell application "Pages"
      save document 1 in path_2_doc
      open file path_2_doc
    end tell
    --{code}
    that's all folks.

  • Using Windows 7 and Firefox 10.0.2, at random times all home page images "disappear" when switching between web sites. Page layout on some web sites is lost. Requires removing and downloading Firefox to restore. Any ideas?

I have recently (6 months ago) purchased and use an HP Pavilion desktop with Windows 7. At times, when especially active (several windows open) and switching between windows or using links to connect with another web page, all the images on the home home page "disappear", that is to say there is space, but no image, as if the page did not load correctly. When this happens, pages other than the home page also do not display images.
Same pages display correctly in Explorer whenever this happens.

  • Switch between multiple quicktime movies on a single page

I want them to play in a single window but use clickable links to switch between .mov files. I am working in DW CS5.

It depends on the code you are using to play the movies but it could be done with javascript.  Although unless you are streaming the Quicktime movies, like a youtube, you will be forcing the user to download all the movies to load the page.  If they are not setup to stream then you might want to load a separate page for each movie.  If you show us the code you are currently using to play the movie we can help you through the process.
