Switching essbase servers

Does anyone know the steps to switch the essbase server that planning uses? I'm on 9.2.0.3. Steps I tried:
1. install the essbase server and register
2. change the connections in Planning desktop to point to this new server
3. tried creating dbs from desktop on the new server.
4. Had to manual create the planning applicatiion in essbase and then i was able to use "create" in desktop and it created the planning dbs, although there were some errors in generating some member formuals.
5. confirmed the dbs (plan types) were created
6. regenerated the hspjshome.properties file
7. restarted planning etc.
problem is i can log into planning (web) at all. I'm not sure these steps are correct and I'm not sure that its even possible to switch essbase servers. Any one have insight. I tried to "Setup" a new application from desktop on my new essbase server, but it won't let me use the relational datasources because they still seem tied to the old essbase apps. The old essbase server is still out there with the old apps. Shuold I have deleted the apps through desktop and used the Setup page to recreate the apps on the new server, since manually creating the apps on the new essbase server and then using planning desktop to create the dbs doesnt seem to work correctly.

Hi,
The problem may be around shared services, you have provisioned a planning app against one essbase server and now you are trying to use another.
I would try and just do this as a typical migratation if you are having such problems, I take it only the essbase server has changed and nothing else,
back up your relational database and any essbase components,
unregister the application from HSS,
remove the app,
make sure all UDL is looking at the new essbase server.
create the app again.
stop planning,
restore the backed up relational db,
start planning,
make sure you can log in with no problems ( as the shared services server has not changed the admin native sid should be the same so in theory you shouldnt have to update the users table)
run a desktop planning create
restore any other essbase components such as data, scripts etc
Cheers

  • Is it possible to share an ODBC.INI across Essbase servers?

    h5. Summary
    Our planned production environment may have as many as 15 Essbase servers so it would be useful if the odbc.ini file could be maintained centrally. Is this possible?
    h5. Problem
    The servers are implemented as a high availability cluster. The infrastructure team telll me that a side-effect of this is that the Essbase install builds the server node name into the path for EPM_ORACLE_HOME. Because this path has to be hard-coded in the odbc.ini Driver specification (see below) this apparently forces you to maintain a separate odbc.ini for each Essbase server.
    +Driver=/ htesb1 /u03/Oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/lib/ARora24.so+
    h5. Requirement
    As part of the landscape we will have an OCFS shared file system mounted across all the Essbase servers. What I'd like to be able to do is place a single odbc.ini file on this file system and for that file to be used by all the Essbase nodes. I've tried using an environment variable in the Driver path specification. I've also tried using a symbolic link.
    Does anybody know of a way to avoid the hard-coded paths in the odbc.ini?
    h5. Alternative
    Another possibility is to use OCI instead though I saw in another thread that this doesn't work with parallel loads. Assuming this problem can be got around it means that the connection information will be consistent regardless of the essbase server and the odbc.ini maintenance problem then goes away. The catch is that the connection information is then embedded in the rules file meaning that we have to update same whenever they are moved between environments (e.g. dev to test) and whenever an environment's connection details change. I tried using substitution variables but these only apply to ODBC connection names. Does anyone know if there is some way to parameterise the OCI connection information?

  • 2 Essbase Servers On Same UNIX Server

    Hi.I installed 2 Essbase Servers on the same UNIX Server.Both Essbase Servers work but that's when I want to point to 2nd Essbase Server for Planning and Business Rules that it's more difficult.In fact, in Essbase Administration Services, I managed to add 2nd Essbase Server indicating port it uses but with Planning and Business Rules the "server_name:port" style entry doesn't match. Planning and Business Rules don't understand these entries.I tried in other manner with a NODENAME in ESSBASE.cfg, but no result either.So, is there anyone who can suggest me something or anyone who managed this case?Best regards.Rzedinho,New HDN Member.

    The only way that you can connect to the second server is to use client software that supports providing a port at login. We are doing this, but you have to have the latest versions of reports, planning, etc. If you have these versions of software, then all you have to do to connect is give it a string like: EssbaseServer2:2784

  • Preview Data in EAS across different essbase Servers

    Hello All,
    We are on 11.1.2.3 of EPM. In our Prod EAS I have Signed in using my AD user ID and added the two(one prod, one dev) essbase servers to the list of essbase servers. I was able to successfully add the two essbase servers. Now when I preview data on cube in dev it gives me the error "Cannot connect to olap service. Cannot connect to Essbase Server. Error: Essbase Error(1051293): Login fails due to invalid login credentials". This cannot be true because I would not be able to expand the essbase servers list and drill down to the database in order to preview it if the credentials were wrong. Also I am able to see the outlines and Calc scripts just fine. I am able to preview data on the prod cube just fine.
    Now, The same happens when I try to preview data in prod essbase cube when coming from Dev EAS. Which means am able to preview data only on dev essbase server cubes when coming from dev EAS and when I try to preview data on a prod cube when coming from Dev EAS i get the same invalid login credentials error.
    Could someone please help me understand if this is a bug or if this is how they intended it to work? Because we just upgraded from 11.1.1.4 and we were able to preview data across any essbase server no matter which EAS service we used.
    No SSL or Single Sign-on were used. Just active directory credentials. It happens only with an AD ID and not with a native directory ID. Please suggest on how this can be fixed.
    Thanks,
    Ted.

    I logged this with Oracle and the following is their response copy/pasted
    The issue which you have reported in this SR is a desired behavior. This behavior has been seen in latest versions only 11.1.2.x.
    In earlier version we can preview the data of any Essbase server added to any eas console.
    But form 11.1.2.x environment this behaviour has been changed.
    We did checked with development team on this earlier, and according to development team its a behavior by design.
    As dev environment and Prod environment have different registries , the preview data would work if Dev Essbase server added to Dev EAS only. like same holds good for prod or test environments.
    As same issue has been reported earlier , we form support has raised a bug with development team after reproducing the issue .
    But development team did not accept this as bug as this behavior was by design .
    So later we changed this bug to a enchantment request with development team to change this behavior.
    Bug 14622693 - PREVIEW DATA ON REMOTE ESSBASE HOST FAIL WHEN CONNECTED FROM EAS
    If this enhancement requested gets approved by development team ,Then it would be incorporated in future release.
    Thanks,
    Ted.

  • Using rsync w/ two Essbase servers (Primary & Secondary)

    I"m looking for information regarding the use of rsync w/ Essbase. I have two Essbase servers, Primary(Prod), and Secondary(DR) Essbase servers I wish to keep in sync. Essbase is running on Linux OS, and is 931.
    any information would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi Ed,
    Thanks very much for your comments...
    My Primary is currently the Log Collector anyway, if I upgrade them both at the same time then this would cause downtime for TACACS authentication.
    Would you advise breaking the pair, leaving the Primary (Log Collector) active, upgrading the Secondary to become the new Primary after the upgrade, restore the Log Collector to the new Primary. Then upgrading the (old Primary/new secondary) and re-registering them both?
    Further input would be appreciated - many thanks...

  • Can I use mulitple Essbase servers if I have multiple Planning web servers?

    Hi,
    can I use mulitple Essbase servers if I have multiple Planning web servers?
    Can I have one Finance Planning application running on one Web server on one Essbase server.
    Have another Operations Planning application running on another Web server on another Essbase box and server?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    you can have as many essbase servers as you want, provided they are registered on same shared services. When you create a data source for planning application, you have to provide Essbase server name and login details. You can provide one essbase server in one data source and another essbase server for another.
    Also since Planning is based on RDBMS database, you can have multiple planning web servers pointing to same planning application. You can use load balancer concept as well.
    Let me know if it helps.
    Cheers

  • Bouncing the essbase servers

    Hi there
    Years ago, we were told that it is good maintenance practice to bounce your essbase database server on a regular basis as it clears out any fragmented memory and caching issues. Is this still the case today?. I would like to have our DBA do the same with our essbase servers today

    Hi ColDFire,
    I've not seen real issues with caches not performing as designed. As I mentioned in my earlier post if the cache sizes are set too high or the server has limited memory restarting can be a work-around; however work-around are not typically a solid mechanism for a production application -- the real issue should be addressed rather than starting/stopping. If the concern is only that memory is used and not released then that is really not an issue -- an server application like Essbase allocating memory and releasing it would actually fragment memory which is not good; this is why memory is typically not released by applications which need to use large amounts on a server environment.

  • Where is the port information stored in HSS for HSS mode Essbase servers?

    In order to test .sec file validity, I started up a temporary server on port 1426. The .sec file was copied from an existing SS mode Essbase server. This worked fine and I stopped the temporary server. However, now in Shared Services, the Global "Analytical Server" instance inside the "Analytical Servers" project now points to port 1426. I can no longer manage the real server on port 1423 in HSS. Can somebody tell me where this port information is stored so I can change it?
    I don't want to have to re-externalise and mess about like that because I tried this on a test box and got into a horrible mess because externalising creates new analytical server instances in HSS with a new index number which doesn't match the original one etc. Horribly mess.
    This port number must be stored somewhere in HSS? It's not in OpenLDAP I think as I exported the whole server as LDIF and the string "1426" does not occur in the export. Couldn't find it in the HS9_HSS database either but perhaps I missed it.

    For reference, I found out how to fix this:
    Look in the Repository HS9_HSS for the table VERSION_CONTENT
    in the HUGEBLOBS (which are XML fragments), you'll find the the settings. Export, alter, import.
    Restart HSS and Admin services.

  • Impact in removing one of 2 Essbase servers in current 11.1.2.1 platform

    Hello,
    Here is what I'm trying to do:
    I have Essbase installed on 2 servers and thus registered in Shared Services (epm registry). However, I will need to remove one Essbase server from the current configuration.
    I was thinking of uninstalling Essbase from the "unwanted" server, but will the Epm Registry be updated accordingly? will the entries for the uninstalled server disappear from Epm Registry? Or will I need to manually delete these entries?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards,
    Andy

    I've experienced similiar problems in multiple environments. Even the outline for Sample.Basic was locked. I just stumbled across something that corrected the problem (at least for now :) ). I opened one of my outlines, selected the "*Account*" dimension and then chose to "*sort the children of the selected member in descending order*" (menu option directly above database outline) and somehow that unlocked my outline. Not sure why that solved the problem, but it did.

  • Switching Kepware servers in PCO

    Hi Experts,
    We have Kepware on a different machine and PCO on another machine. To connect the Kepware server we installed 'OPCCoreComponentsRedistributable(x86)' on the machine where PCO is installed. we were able to create a source system using the details of the kepware server. For some testing we are trying to re-point the PCO to another Kepware server. For configuring the other Kepware server, we made the changes to the 'opc_remote' file to specify the details of the other kepware server. After making the changes to the file, we re-started the server on which PCO is installed. After re-starting when i am trying to create a source system using the details of the new kepware server, i get message 'No OPC servers found on the specified machine'.
    If i specify the other Kepware server that was provided earlier, i am still able to create the source system.
    I know that we can connect to only one Kepware server from PCO, but is it that we cannot switch from one Kepware server to another.
    We are on PCO 2.3 SP04 P7 and Kepware server is V4.190.341 - U.
    Regards,
    Darshan Sheth

    Darshan,
    For DCOM to work with PCo and Kepware, you have 2 options to configure the user access:
    1. Allow full DCOM access for domain users that are members of the server Administrators group, EVERYONE, SYSTEM and NETWORK, and allow PCo and Kepware services to run under LocalSystem account (some network admins will not allow this as it opens potential network security holes)
    2. Define named users or named Domain Group permissions for DCOM.
    2.1. Use the named user or users that are  members of the named Domain Group for the following:
        -  named user for Kepware server_runtime service
        -  named user for PCo Agent Instances
        -  administrative user to log into to PCo remote Desktop
    Avoid hosting PCo and remote OPC Servers on different Domains or on Workgroups -- should always be in the same Domain.
    I strongly recommend that you migrate to Kepware V5 and investigate using the Kepware OPC UA interface along with PCo OPC UA Agent where you are going to have remote OPC Server requirements, and avoid the DCOM issues altogether.
    Installing Kepware on PCo server, or PCo on the Kepware server will remove any DCOM configuration requirements.

  • Switching protocol servers readonly & Configuration reloading

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a switch to disallow any write access (e.g. deleting, changing, renaming of "files") via the protocol servers. This would be great for administrative purposes.
    For now I've to wait until the evening (when nobody works anymore) in order to perform maintenance. This obviously breaks as soon as only a single person works overtime. For now I send mails and trust everyone does read them and obeys. But it would be better if I could enforce this.
    I can control our custom applications (which have such a read-only switch), but I'm unable to modify the protocol servers that come with iFS.
    Second issue I came across is that the protocol servers only load their configurations when I start the node. Sometimes I need to tweak the config for just one protocol server. It would be great, if I could reload the config of a single protocol server without having to restart the complete node.
    Best Regards,
    Jens

  • Switched email servers; same address, contact form no longer works

    I switched my web host's email from their internal email setup to a google business email of the same address.  The propagation took a little time, but now everything's working right.  Except my contact form on my website.  Now when I try to submit, I get "Server encountered an error" even though its the exact same email address as it was before, just through google's business email  service and not my web host's.  Whats going on and how to I fix this?  Is it an SMTP server issue under the hood?  I notice if I make another email account through my host and then direct the form to send email to that account, it works.  But switching it back to the google business email account I can't get it to work.

    Hi abstractls,
    You may be having the same problem as me. If the Airport Express is NOT connected to the internet, the Macs will still work, but the PC print routines say "you do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer" or just "An unknown error occurred during printing". If you reconnect the internet, the problem goes away.
    I suspect that the PC is not getting an IP address assigned to it by the Airport Express, and cannot cope without it, but the Mac is OK.
    My problem is that I do not want to connect the Airport Express to the net, I just want it to share a printer between Macs and PC. Does anyone know of a fix for that problem? I have told the Airport Express to ignore the lack of an internet connection, but that just switches off the amber light...

  • I switched email servers and when I synced to the new server, all my old emails erased... HELP

    I previously had 1&1.com hosting my email addresses ([email protected] & [email protected]) and I recently switched to Weebly/Gmail to host these email addresses...
    I enabled IMAP forwarding in gmail (which in hinesight I think I should have selected POP) and when I updated my server settings in Thunderbird - all of my old emails disappeared. Theses emails are for business and I may have dramatically hurt our business by doing this.
    Are emails backed up anywhere where I can restore from? I do have the option selected to store all emails on my local computer - please help :)

    With IMAP all mail is managed on the server. By simply changing the server of an existing account you virtually start from scratch. I.e. the new server knows nothing about the mail on the old server.<br>
    What you see in Thunderbird is basically a mirror of what's on the server.
    What you should have done is moving messages off of the old server to your Local Folders account.<br>
    Alternatively you could have created a new account with the same email address on the new server.
    The Thunderbird IMAP synchronization option basically is a local offline copy of what's on the server. The offline copy got wiped out when you connected to the new server. It isn't an equivalent for a proper backup of your messages.
    I don't know if you still have access to the old server. If not, then you can only restore a backup of your profile folder, assuming you've created one at some point.
    It is grossly negligent not to backup your business email.

  • Configuration of 2 Essbase Servers on one Shared Services Server

    Hi,
    Components Installed:
    Essbase Server and Shared Services on 1st Server
    Workspace, HFR and Web Analysis Installed on 2nd server. I have configured them and everything is working fine. No issues with this environment.
    Requirement:
    There is a Essbase server installed on Server 3. Its a Standalone. We want to make use of the Application created here and its security(groups etc) for creating reports through Workspace.
    Question: Can I configure this Essabase server to the Shared Services which sits on Server1 (which already configured with Essbase already). If it is, are there any risks that we need to consider here.
    Please advise me on this.
    Thanks, UB

    Thank you so much for your quick solution.
    Please correct me If I am wrong here.
    1) I need to run the configuration Utility on Server3 and give the same details used for Essbase in Server1. or
    Is it ok if I run the Register with Shared services through Essbase Console on Server3 and point to the Shared Services server. I think by doing this, one more Essbase Node created in the Shared Services and the security on Essbase Server 3 can be utilized for generating Reports from Workspace.
    Please advice John..

  • Difficulty switching DB servers without manually tweeking report

    I have an ASP project with a number of crystal reports. The database is SQL Server and IDE is VS 2010. The ASP pages do not have a problem talking to the database, but I cannot switch the report from one database server to another without manually adjusting the report to the current server (I do this by going into the report > Field Explorer > Database Fields > Set Database Location). Without this, I get a "database logon failed" page in spite of code that gives the correct logon info to the report. Manually switching the reports back and forth has the potential to create a lot of tedious busy work so it would be nice to do it all through code. I'm aware of the Push method and that it would probably avoid this issue, but set that aside for the sake of argument. Having stepped through the code, all the settings from the config file are correct and everything works correctly after the report change.
    My question: is there a way to switch databases fully through code?
    Here is the current logon code:
    ReportDocument cryRpt = new ReportDocument();
    TableLogOnInfos crtableLogoninfos = new TableLogOnInfos();
    TableLogOnInfo crtableLogoninfo = new TableLogOnInfo();
    ConnectionInfo crConnectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();
    Tables CrTables;
    cryRpt.Load(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + ReportName);
    crConnectionInfo.ServerName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["ReportServerName"].ToString().Trim();
    crConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["DatebaseName"].ToString().Trim();
    crConnectionInfo.UserID = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["ReportUser"].ToString().Trim();
    crConnectionInfo.Password = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["ReportPassword"].ToString().Trim();
    crConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = false;
    crConnectionInfo.Type = ConnectionInfoType.SQL;
    CrTables = cryRpt.Database.Tables;
    foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table CrTable in CrTables)
        crtableLogoninfo = CrTable.LogOnInfo;
        crtableLogoninfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo;
        CrTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crtableLogoninfo);
    CRViewer.ReportSource = cryRpt;
    CRViewer.RefreshReport();
    I have also tried this with the same result:
    cryRpt.SetDatabaseLogon(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["ReportUser"].ToString().Trim(), ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["ReportPassword"].ToString().Trim(), ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["ReportServerName"].ToString().Trim(), ConfigurationManager.AppSettings\["DatebaseName"].ToString().Trim());
