Switching from a PC to an Apple MAc

I recently purchased Elements 10 for my PC but now I have bought a new computer...an IMac. Am I able to use this software for my new computer?

You will need to insatall the Mac version.  Elements is one of the few applications that includes both versions with your purchase.
If you need to download version 10, you can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

The link Kappy posted should give you peace of mind. I can tell you from personal experience that both the Canon EOS 550D and the Nikon D90 work seamlessly with OS X (10.6.4).
You can use iPhoto, Image Capture or Adobe Bridge CS4 to import and organise your photos. I would definitely recommend Bridge over the others, but Image Capture (pre-installed on all versions of OS X) is surprisingly good and offers a range of features.
    Enjoy your shiny new Mac!

  • I seem to have 2 Apple IDs, one on my MacBook Pro and another on my devices.  If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs

Can I get rid of one  ID?  How do I do that?

    one on my MacBook Pro
That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.
If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs
Just use your current Apple ID when you setup your iCloud account that you use for your devices.

  • What can I expect in switching from a PC (Sony Vaio) to Mac laptop?

I plan to purchase a new 14" iBook and use it to take my online classes, as well as archive photos of my artwork. Soon after, I'd like to use it to maintain the website I will be creating.
What sort of transitions or problems might I expect with the switch? The only concern I have is if I will be able to open and send word docs, etc..for my online courses and I'll have problems with that. Is this a valid concern? If so, what would I need to do to make these Microsoft documents (like word, excel, etc) compatible?
Also, is this iBook internet ready out of the box if I am in a hotspot or is it necessary to purchase a wireless card like with PC's?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

Yes, like the others here have said, the iBook is internet-ready out of the box, including a wireless card as well as Ethernet and Modem connectors. Office 2004 for Mac will open and save files just as if you were using them on a PC, and works with all versions of Office. For your photos, the iBook comes with iPhoto, which is a very solid photo management app.
However, since Apple is switching over to Intel processors, you may want to wait, since the iBook is still PowerPC-based, and the new models will probably be much faster than the ones Apple currently sells.

  • Switching from a PC server to a MAC

    Hello,
I've finally convinced my office to switch our PC server to a MAC server. About half the computers that will be on this network are MAC and Half are PC. I have a couple small questions/issues.
    1) will the PC's be able to access everything the MACs do?
    2) Is there any software that I should know about?
    3) I head that the contacts and calendar stuff does not sync to Microsoft outlook (for the PC users). Is this true? If so is there a work around?
    Thanks

The Mac Server can do the job of the PC Server in most situations. You have to redesign your directory though. There are many questions regarding your current setup, mostly things that are "Microsoft oriented".
Is the MS Server a DC?
Do you have mail services running?
    Do you have external trusts?
Do you have Terminal Services for applications?
Keep in mind that Mac Server doesnt work like MS Server, with wizards and stuff, and takes some things for granted, like for example that you have a proper DNS setup. MS server will transparently configure most of these prerequisites, at least at some point.
Ive been in your place, and I did a lot of reading (www.apple.com/server/documentation).
    Start with the basics

  • Switching from MS pc & adobe PE to mac & FCP7

embarrassing I know but I have just (literally) switched to mac and am struggling to get off 1st base! To help me get onto page 2 of the "Exploring FCP7" manual, could someone explain the following:
    1) how to delete things? The instructions keep saying "press delete" but my (brand new imac wireless) keyboard doesn't have one
    2) on page 12 it tells me to "press command-B" to open a bin but nothing happens. On page 15 it tells me to "press J to play the clip backward...K to stop playback" etc but nothing happens. Is it because I have an english version of FCP7 but a french keyboard? Maybe I have to activate something on the keyboard? Maybe I am just plain stupid!
I have also failed to find any manuals in french on the apple site, not that my french is good enough....would really appreciate your help

    1. There should be one next to the = key.
    2. If the browser is the active window Cmd-B will make a new bin. It will not open it.
    3. Very likely. The keyboard language has to match the application language. You can change this in system preferences.

  • Switching from Tiscali/Talktalk - is using a MAC s...

I was looking forward to a simple process of moving from talktalk to BT last weekend. Using a MAC number was supposed to ensure that I had no break in my broadband service. Instead, I have not had broadband since 10th September, when my BT broadband service was activated, and BT have to send out an engineer to take a look at the exchange on the 25th as they have no idea why there is a problem as the line seems fine to them from their side.
What is the actual process of moving broadband provider on a non-LLU exchange? Does something have to be physically changed somewhere, or is it all done remotely and electronically? How is the telephone service (which continues to be with BT) separated from the broadband service, and so (thankfully) not messed up as well?
I have just read somewhere that there is such a thing as "tagging" which could mean that BT are being prevented from giving me their broadband service by the line still being identified as carrying the Talktalk service. Would BT automatically have checked for this, or do I need to asked them to do this?
Strangely, Talktalk have also written to me to say that their service will end on the 27th September. Not sure where they got this from, as I understood the termination date is the date the MAC is used an d the BT service is activated (thus the previous service ends). If the MAC number is not used, then the Talktalk service should continue unaffected, I thought. Could it be that I am on a LLU exchange? But how would I know? There was no mention of it anywhere when I started with Tiscali 4 years ago.

Craig, one of the mods, helpfully confirmed that the migration did happen and it is just that there is most likely a problem on the line. Talktalk have also confirmed that my connection with them ended on the 10th and the letter was a mistake - although I wouldn't be surprise mysteriously the problem fixes itself by the end of today (the 27th).
The BT engineer came around on Saturday morning to check our internal lines / connections, and found nothing wrong (apart from there being no connect, of course) but did not check anything at the exchange. Seems rather a pointless visit - didn't BT believe what I was telling them over the telephone? Apparently he went through the same checks I did with the BT support people.
Now an engineer is to take a look at the exchange on Wednesday - at least, I hope they are! What's less costly to BT - sending out an engineer to a customer or sticking an additional task to what must be almost daily visits to the exchange (it supposedly serves 10,000 households)?

  • Problems Switching from Prepared to Supervised in Apple Configurator

    Hi all,
I am at a school managing a cart of iPads.  I was using Configurator just to Prepare them and push out a profile and apps.  I didn't use Supervise, because I wanted to be able to plug them in to other computers to transfer video.  Some update to Configurator came out and I can no longer use Prepare to install paid apps.  Frustrating, but okay.
Next I turned on Supervise so I can install paid apps again.  Apparently this requires erasing the iPad.  Okay, fine.  iPads were erased and set to Supervise, but I have no redeem codes left!  I can still see that the redeem codes are in Configurator, and are matched up to the iPad serial numbers, but I can't check the box to install them.  This is different from the problem of having lost the Configurator information described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5194
Can someone explain how I can use my existing match of serial numbers and redeem codes to install apps?
    OS 10.7.5
    Configurator 1.2.1

    Hey Neil,
Unfortunately, iPads that are Supervised with Apple Configurator can only transfer files/photos via USB to the computer that it was supervised by. We ran into the same thing in our school district. If you want to get videos or photos in any other way you will need to go wirelessly.
We've been using Dropbox to transfer photos and videos from iPads and its been working great. The Dropbox app has a very cool auto-upload process that will automatically upload photos and videos from the iPad Camera Roll to Dropbox. Once you log in to the Dropbox app on the iPad with your account, click on the Photos icon in the lower left corner of the screen (second one from the left). Then select "Enable Camera Upload" and "Only Wi-Fi." The upload process will begin for all existing photos and videos in the Camera Roll. From now on, all future photos and videos taken by the iPad will automatically upload to the Dropbox folder.
If each student has a Dropbox account, they can "share" their photos folder with the teacher so that when the teacher logs in to his/her account he/she will see all of the students' videos and photos.
    Hope this helps!
    ~Joe

  • Problems with switch from Windows to Mac

I recently switched from Windows PC to a new Mac and cannot install the Acrobat 7.0 Professional CD that I used with Windows on the Mac. Am I missing something, or do I need to buy a whole new product?

No Windows program will install on Macintosh (a very few products have
both Windows and Macintosh on one disk, but not here).
If you call Adobe you can buy a "crossgrade" for a reduced price. You
will need to upgrade to Acrobat 9.0 at the same time.

  • Outlook Email Client Switch from Mac to Windows

Switching from outlook windows to outlook for mac seems quite an easy task but the vide versa is not the same.
I have downloaded email files in outlook for mac that I need to import to outlook for windows.
The main issue is that I have deleted all the mails from  the server and have saved emails in outlook 2011. Now uploaing these emails is taking ages and I am running out of time.
How can I transfer all these files from outlook 2011 for mac to outlook 2013 for windows???
helpful answers will be really appreciated

    Hi,
Generally, we can export the mailbox data to an Outlook for Mac Date file(.olm file) in Outlook 2011 for Mac. As for Outlook for Windows, the default Outlook Data file is .PST file. If so, we need to find some third-party tools to convert OLM file to PST
    file for Windows Outlook using.
Personal suggestion, we can consider to create a new imap account acted as a transfer mailbox. To do it, please follow:
    1. Create a new IMAP account, such as a Hotmail.com account.
    2. Configure the Hotmail account in your Outlook 2011 for Mac and import the exported OLM file to this account.
    3. The imported data file will synced to IMAP account in mail server. We can login to the Web mail page to double check it.
    4. If the data has been synced complete in Hotmail mail server, we can configure this Hotmail account in your Outlook for Windows. Then all mailbox data can be download to the local Outlook in Windows machine.
    5. Now, we can drag the messages from this Hotmail account to your main account. Or we can export Hotmail mailbox to PST file for other Windows Outlook using.
Additionally, here is a similar thread about your issue:

  • Transferring Playlists From A Windows Computer to a Mac (with an IPod???)

I recently switched from a Windows computer to a Mac and the folk at the Apple Store copied my documents and music files to the new Mac. All of my music that I had on ITunes on the Windows computer was transferred, including all the purchased music. The only thing that wasn't transferred were my extensive playlists, which I've spent years creating. I figured I could do it with my IPod and I was about to synch my IPod with the new Mac, when I saw the message advising me that everything on the IPod would be erased including, presumably, the existing playlists. Now, I realize I could simply print out what's on the playlists from my old Windows computer and manually recreate the playlists, but that would be a laborious pain in the butt. There's gotta be a simpler way but so far so one seems to be able to tell me what it is. A few people have told me there's no way to do it, but I have to believe there's a way because it would be foolish and dumb for there not to be. Any ideas? Thanks.

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and clone playlists from an iPod. You could start your research with the three below, I believe they can all copy playlists and other data. If you search the web I'm sure you'll find others:
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

  • Can't get online after switching from a Dell

    Can anyone help me?
I just switched to a PowerBook G4 from using a Dell, and now I can't get online. I'm using a cable modem, but apparently my Apple won't recognize it. I talked to Apple tech support for over an hour, and they sent me to the Apple store who, of course, couldn't duplicate my problem. The guy at the store said this happens a lot when you switch from a Windows machine to a Mac because the modem "knows" which computer it should be trying to connect to. My Apple won't receive an IP address from the modem, and neither Apple nor my cable company can fix it. I've never used an Apple before and I'm getting really frustrated!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    You're welcome.
Copied from the link I provided.
The Apple Hardware Test was originally distributed on a separate Apple Hardware Test CD. The latest Macs distribute the Apple Hardware Test on a special volume on the Software Restore and Install DVD. Each Apple Hardware Test is specific to the type and model of Mac with which it was distributed.
Since the Apple Hardware Test is included on the Software Restore and Install DVD that shipped with your Mac when purchased, Apple won't just send you another one.
Your employer needs to give you the OS X install package that shipped with this Mac when purchased to keep handy. Although there is an alternative, to run Disk First Aid repair on the hard drive to check for any hard drive directory problems requires booting the computer from the OS X install disc #1 that shipped with this Mac when purchased.
Check Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures with instructions for running Disk First Aid repair on the hard drive.
This is also recommended before installing a major OS X update such as 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 which is expected to be released soon.
See Installing software updates for future reference.
Since you are new to Macs and OS X, check Maintaining Mac OS X for recommended maintenance for OS X which isn't much but also good info to know for future reference.
