Switching from Creator Pro to INDCS2

My company is switching from MultiAd Creator Pro to InDesign CS2. Does anyone know how to create a "matrix" in InDesign CS2? Or does anyone know a similar feature in CS2

Hi Scott,
In Creator, a matrix is a group of boxes that have been duplicated from one original box that's created by the user. Once the original box has the colors, type styles & sizes, spacing, graphics, etc., the box is selected and from the edit menu, "make matrix" is selected. From there the user inputs how many row, columns and how much space in between each row and column is needed, then the user drags out the matrix with the mouse to fit in whatever space they need it to fit. The benefit of the matrix is each box will be exactly the same - the program figures out the boxes will have to be scaled in order to fit into the space the matrix is dragged to fit. I hope that makes sense!
Thank you!

  • Switched from Premiere Pro 2.0 to FCP studio 2

    and I couldn't be happier!
    No crashes
    fantastic rendering times
    simple work flow
    no glitches with Boris continuum
    the list goes on....
    PLUS
the advantage of working on a mac- which I'd never done before
I have to say it was the best thing I could have done-
    this software kicks ***!
I use to be a PC only only guy
editing long form and promos on Premiere Pro, and I got use to the crashes,
    the reboots,
    the glitches, etc etc\
one day I got ****** and dropped $$$ on a top of the line Intel Mac and its been glorious ever since!
I wanted to write this in the premiere forums but I would **** all those guys off big time.

Here's a big question, and I've been scouring the net for almost 2 months trying to find an answer.
Is it possible to export meta-data Premiere Pro 2.0 timeline sequences to Final Cut 6?
I've recently switched to Mac and with many years of cutting on Premiere Pro I have several projects that are still online that i CAN NOT bear to go back on the PC to finish. Is there anyone else with a solution that will allow me to preserve my edits and work on them in FCP 6.0.2? I've heard of a few rumors for being able to transfer edit information from Avid to FCP.
I do definitely realize the native DV file format (AVI/MOV) and I already have a solution for a large batch conversion.
I realize this may be something that "the management" might not want us to know, but I thought it was worth a try.
    Thanks

  • Switching from 15" Pro to 13" Air

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro 15", 2.4gHz i5 with hi-res antiglare screen. I might be able to sell it and only add a hundred dollars or so to it to get a 2012 MacBook Air 13" base model, making it almost an even trade.
I don't use much of my hard drive space now, and the lack of a CD drive doesn't concern me. That being said, do you think this is a good switch to make?

I don't know....I think you'll be losing out on this deal.
Then again, everyone is different......I like the idea of being able to upgrade my Macbook - RAM & Hard Drive.
But, if portability is what you want, by all means go for it....
It's newer, lighter and it's quite portable.
    good luck in deciding........

  • Thinking of switching from macbook pro to macbook

Just picked up a Macbook Pro 15.4 2.16ghz last week and love this thing. This is my first mac and coming from pc I do not think I will ever go back again. My only conflict is I cant decide if I want the pro or return it for the macbook. When I bought this last week they did not have the duo 2 core in the macbook and as it is in the computer world the day after I brought it home it was released. The new macbook duo 2 core comes with everything this machine has except the card slot and graphics card.
I like the looks of it and I think that the size factor would be good. I would have to go with the black cause I want it loaded. Any opinions. Factors that are holding me back from swtiching is the fact that I lose the pc slot but increased battery life is nice as well. I use this for internet, office work, photos and music.
Sorry to waste anyones time with stupid questions. I should just be happy that I have a sweet Macbook Pro. Guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

Hi there, if the aesthetics of the macbook really say, "Get me! Get me!", then i would ignore them and stick with your pro.
Owning a pro myself, i must say i don't use the box for heavy duty animation etc etc, i use it mainly for homework, browsing internet, and playing sims 2. However i like how i can run every application i need at the same time (being about 10 sometimes) without the computer thinking even twice, this is a real advantage and stress saver.
As for someone mentioning having a pro as the beauty and a macbook for lugging around, just to save weight and dents, i have to disagree, i lug around my pro around for many hours a day (school) and i have to say the weight hasn't really affected me. I enjoy the gorgeous display and how quietly it runs.

  • I seem to have 2 Apple IDs, one on my MacBook Pro and another on my devices.  If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs

Can I get rid of one  ID?  How do I do that?

    one on my MacBook Pro
That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.
If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs
Just use your current Apple ID when you setup your iCloud account that you use for your devices.

  • Auto switch from tray 1 for envelopes to tray 2 for letters on HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium

Hi I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium e-All-in-One Printer - A910n My Operating System is XP Media Center.  I haven't been able to get it to switch from one tray to the other automatically. Also  it only remembers 1 type of paper at a time. I can't get it to show in Properties, Paper  available, more than one type of paper. I open device settings, Form To Tray Assignment, Printer Auto Select :Letter.     Tray 1 : Letter   Tray 2 : Letter.   Now I change Tray 1 : to Envelope #10  click apply, click ok, it closes out. I open the Properties back up & Tray 1 : is back to letter.  Is there a way to get the printer to remember the it is set up with 2 Trays with 2 different types of paper ? I think the problem lies with the Printer Auto Select : But I am not sure. I would like to be able to print an address on an envelope when working in works. Without having  to manually change the Tray settings. Does any one Know How to set this up ? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this issue.

    Hi MrHope,
Make sure that the printer is set to have tray 2 as the default tray, and then try setting the paper types for each tray in the printer settings.

  • Switch from Quad G5 to MacBook Pro??

I use my Quad G5 for semi-pro photo work - Nikon Raw images processed in Aperture. Due to space and mobility issues, I am considering moving from the Quad G5 to a 17" MacBook Pro C2D. Along with the photo work, I use the Quad for correspondence (MS-Office suite), record keeping, and on-line research.
I use a Lacie 500GB external drive for storage, so the 160GB drive on the MBP C2D is not an issue.
I know it's early in the life of the MBP C2D - but by chance has anyone made a similar move; i.e., switching from a Quad G5 to a MBP C2D? If so, what were your observations - pro and con? My PowerBook G4 is a very nice machine, but it can't handle Aperture. I would like the mobility of the PowerBook, combined with the power of the Quad G5.
Thanks for any thoughts and observations.

I agree there would be a bigger performance gap between the MBP and mac pro.. but seeing as you are asking about the G5 quad, not the mac pro which is a quad xeon, the fastest new MBP actually comes off pretty well in the comparison. my MBP 17" is a new core 2 duo one, and I was surprised at how much faster it is than the dual G5 I have. I expected it to be maybe a tiny bit more capable, but it's actually well and truly faster. real time audio plug ins that I use in logic indicate a far lower CPU usage than the same thing on the dual G5.
also, earlier this year I was at an apple briefing (for audio pros) so we had a comparison station set up with a quad G5 vs the first MBP that had come out. they had the same big project running on both machines, in logic, using a lot of CPU and RAM intensive live plug ins playing an orchestral arrangement synced to a DV res H264 video file, all running off the internal drive. the quad G5 showed a little less CPU use, but only just the tiniest amount less.
anyway this is not the same as someone giving you impressions from aperture, but it was a good way of seeing that these machines are up there in performance.
honestly the biggest concern you should have is about the screens on the MBPs. lots of people are reporting that the quality is hit and miss, and I agree. it looks to me like apple have done some cost cutting and are shipping lower quality screens on these machines than in the top of the range powerbooks of the past. I knew there had to have been a tradeoff what with the laptops being so cost competitive today. the machine I just received is great, but the screen definitely has brighter areas, like the backlighting is not totally consistent across the whole display. maybe it will settle down, but if I were a user that depends on accurate colour, contrast and brightness, I'd be on the phone to apple demanding some answers and a replacement.

  • Has anyone switched from a PC notebook to a MacBook Pro?

I am a PC user who is considering switching my 1-year old Toshiba notebook to a MacBook Pro. My reasons for doing so are:
    (1) I would like to simplify the number of applications from various vendors on my computer in order to reduce software conflicts and memory "hogs" that run in the background.
    (2) I have heard that MacBooks are much more secure -- so much so that anti-virus software isn't even usually required. (However, I'm not sure what the constraints are when running a Mac on a home wireless network in conjunction with a desktop PC computer.)
    (3) My understanding is that working with photo's is much more effective with a Mac than a PC. I currently run ACDSee Pro and PhotoShop Elements, and the former has really slowed down my system.
    (4) I've been told that any type of setup -- be it new software, connecting to a network, or finding a wireless Internet connection -- is very easy and straight forward.
If anyone has experience with switching from a PC notebook to a MacBook Pro, I would appreciate hearing your opinion on doing so, both positive and negative. Alternatively, if you know of a good Web site that provides this type of information, please point me to the URL.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
I switched from a Pentium 4 2.2GHz Dell laptop to a Intel CD 2GHz MacBook Pro.
This what I found (the good):
    - the spotlight search on a mac is soo much better and faster compared to a windows search.
    - No need for all those extra programs that scan you PC for virusses, spyware, mallware,...
    - No need to download additional drivers or programs before you can do anything.
    - No third pary software that messes up the whole system. Apple software appears to be more reliable, even from third parties.
    - Backlight keyboard with shaped keys
    - You can do more with a mac trackpad than with a windows trackpad. It does not bother me when I forget the mouse on my desk. The trackpad scrolls and has a "right mouse button" as well.
    - Multitasking without systemwide slow downs.
    - I have an iPod, so iTunes is all I need/want.
What I also found (the bad):
    - the screen resolution on my Dell was higher.
    - Some apps still need Rosetta (office, photoshop,...). If pictures are your thing, iPhoto is no replacement for Adobe photoshop.
    - I sometimes miss the picure viewer thing you have in windows XP. When you select picures and open them, they open in a window with nice back/forward controls,...
The Preview app in Mac just isn't the picture viewer I hoped it would be. But maybe that's just me...
    - there is a lot more freeware for PC than for Mac. This can also be a good thing for Apple if you consider that most of these freeware things are crap anyway...
    - iChat only works with specific accounts and other iChat programs. I hoped it would be a more "universal" chat program without these limitations. To chat to windows people you need a serious work-around (jabber) or just use MSN messenger.
    - no good at games unless you have bootcamp and a windows CD.
Overall: I would not go back to windows. I really like the MacBookpro and OSX.
I have to say that I was not unsatisfied with windows, so I will not trash it. It always worked well for me and did't crash. Programs crashed, but windows did not. I believe a lot of these crashes are due too crappy third party software installed by the user at their own risk...
I'm saying this to let you know that I happely use the 2 systems, but the mac wins for me. OSX is nice to work with and nice to look at.
    Hope this helps...
    Bjorn

  • Long delay between switching from internal - external speakers MacBook Pro 13

    Hey,
Ive got a MacBook Pro 13" (2011) on lion 10.7.4 and I have experienced recent problems with a switch from internal to expernal speakers and vice versa. For example, Im on itunes listening to a song or watching a video on youtube etc and then I plug in my speakers or my headphones, the sound stops. It varies from time to time, until the music continues then, ranging from 10s to hours!
When I try to adjust the volume following things have happened on different occasions:
the volume symbol in the top bar is grey
when I try to adjust the volume with the keyboard, it either wont let me (indicating full volume and the stop sign appear on the screen) or it indicates on the screen that the volume gets changed but you cant hear anything
in the latter case, sometimes when the sound works again, I can press those buttons but the volume is stuck and doesnt respond.
Does it have to do anything with the fact that I am pretty bad at closing tabs on my browser and programmes? I wouldnt have thought so though because it didint used to be like that with the sound and my habits havent changed.
Anyeay, I eould be very happy if someone could help me out with this issue. Many thanks in advance

Thanks for taking the trouble to answer. I agree that it seems like a hw problem either with a cable or internal mounting. To help anyone else who had this sort of problem ..... there is no need to worry. I picked up the phone and called Apple. A very polite and helpful tech guy ran me through a graphics ram reset (PRAM) to see if this would fix things and said to let them know if it didn't. The problem reoccured so the machine is going back. Apple immediately arranged for the machine - no debate, no hassle - to be picked up by courier and a new one shipped back to me. I'll have it in a couple of days. That is what you call service. I'm still going to take an additional precaution though. Despite having a good cover for the machine I'm going to add additional padding in the backpack I use on a weekly commute. Note though that I never had any problems with a series of Macbooks in the decade I've been commuting across Europe (on a weekly basis).

  • Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives

Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives ?
I tried to find this answer online but failed.

Appears the Mac Pro (Early 2008) is the last model to suggest Ultra ATA/100 optical.
And with an optional card, use Serial Attached SCSI via Mac Pro Raid.
This kind of information gets sketchy in that the hard drive bus and other parts are SATA
and only this (and earlier) model Mac Pro has optical drive interface w/ Ultra ATA/100. The
logic board on the early 2008 appears to have two Serial ATA ports, 3.0GBPS; so to check
these, you may need to look into specification in iFixit.com repair guides, any takeapart
guides, and note specifications in everymac.com and those from mactracker.ca.
The MacPro after Early 2008 model build series (Early 2009) appears to sport an optical
drive with 18x speed, compared to Early 2008 & before, whose drives indicate 16x spec.
Other changes may be indicated by certain parts and differences; processors, graphic
support, and those kinds of things. 2008 shows dual-core, afterward, quad-core.
So on what little I found, that would appear to be the divide or when optical drive spec
on the logic board changed from Ultra ATA/100 to SATA versions. But double check.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Macbook pro retina color profile changes when switching from integrated to discrete

Late 2013 macbook pro retina color profile changes when auto switching from integrated to discrete graphics card. Problem started after updating to 10.9.3

Same here. Really annoying because I have my screen calibrated for photo editing, which makes it much warmer than the default color profile. A lot of websites cause the graphics cards to switch for a couple of seconds, which causes the profiles to switched back and forth a few times, everytime. Really annoying, and dissapointing to see, considering Apple released like a hundred .3 betas.
You can use gfxCardStatus to make it stay on one graphics card over the other... Just remember to change it back when you're using a program that actually needs the descrete card.
