Switching from MAC to PC

I recently bought a new 5th Generation iPod and when I got it I was using a MAC. I am now using Windows but the iPod is setup for MAC and when I plug it into my computer it's not recognized in iTunes. I had reset it to the original factory settings so all the songs are off. What do I have to do to have it recognized by iTunes and my PC?

You need to restore it on the PC.
See this: Restoring the 5th generation iPod (iPod with video).

  • Switching from mac to pc and syncing iphone

I am preparing to move from a macbook pro to a pc laptop. I have a first generation iphone that is synced over the air with exchange for calendars, email, and contacts. I currently sync with my mac for music through itunes.
I plan to install itunes on the pc, copy over the itunes library from the mac to the PC, and authorize my itunes account on the new pc and deauthorize itunes on the mac. After I do all this and plug my iphone into the new pc I am thinking that the iphone will be re-formated to work with the pc but that all my settings should be the same. Am I missing anything? I hope to keep all my settings the same on the phone and keep all my music.

Yeah, that's the first time I've heard that one (switching from Mac to PC). I know this doesn't pertain to your question, but why are you switching? I'm running Vista and my next comp will definitely be a Mac. In addition to AV, Antisypware, and a firewall, be sure to get a Registry cleaner and defragmenting program (unless you want to use the crappy one that comes with Windows). I'm looking forward to not having to spend so much time keeping Windows working right and money securing it.

  • Switching from mac to PC and using iTunes + iPod

I recently switched from PC to a Mac Mini. It's great, but I don't know how to move my music library from PC to Mac.
After that, what is the handling to do for using my iPod (previously used with PC) with my Mac now.
    Thank you

How did you do that?  According to Apple, the system requirements for iCloud is OS X Lion 10.7.2 or later.  You posted in the Snow Leopard forums and your system info is showing "Mac OS X (10.6.8)"

  • Trouble switching from Mac to windows in boot camp

Ever since my imac updated early last week I am having trouble switching from the mac side back to windows. Switching fromt windows to mac is fine. I do most of my work on the mac side graphics design but for my job some of the software we use only runs on windows and  this is the side i have to use to clock in and out and do someother work on.
I am using the option button as I have for the past 3 months and it worked just fine but since this update i am having to try 4-5 times before I am successful. I can do it by shutting down the computer, pushing the option button then turning back on and that seems to work, well it did Friday at least, today its not working again, i am having to try 4-5 times yet again by shutting down the computer then turning back on and i really dont like doing that 4-5 times in a row just to switch back to windows to do one quick thing then switch back.
    any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help!

To see if it resolves the problem, from Mac OS try setting your chosen boot disk in Preferences -> Startup Disk. You can do the same to go back to Mac OS from Windows in the Startup Disk control panel.

  • Outlook Email Client Switch from Mac to Windows

Switching from outlook windows to outlook for mac seems quite an easy task but the vide versa is not the same.
I have downloaded email files in outlook for mac that I need to import to outlook for windows.
The main issue is that I have deleted all the mails from  the server and have saved emails in outlook 2011. Now uploaing these emails is taking ages and I am running out of time.
How can I transfer all these files from outlook 2011 for mac to outlook 2013 for windows???
helpful answers will be really appreciated

    Hi,
Generally, we can export the mailbox data to an Outlook for Mac Date file(.olm file) in Outlook 2011 for Mac. As for Outlook for Windows, the default Outlook Data file is .PST file. If so, we need to find some third-party tools to convert OLM file to PST
    file for Windows Outlook using.
Personal suggestion, we can consider to create a new imap account acted as a transfer mailbox. To do it, please follow:
    1. Create a new IMAP account, such as a Hotmail.com account.
    2. Configure the Hotmail account in your Outlook 2011 for Mac and import the exported OLM file to this account.
    3. The imported data file will synced to IMAP account in mail server. We can login to the Web mail page to double check it.
    4. If the data has been synced complete in Hotmail mail server, we can configure this Hotmail account in your Outlook for Windows. Then all mailbox data can be download to the local Outlook in Windows machine.
    5. Now, we can drag the messages from this Hotmail account to your main account. Or we can export Hotmail mailbox to PST file for other Windows Outlook using.
Additionally, here is a similar thread about your issue:

  • Switching from Mac to Windows with no CD

Yes, I too fell in love at first sight with the nano, and will be giving my mini to my boyfriend (who got it for me in the first place). He uses PCs and Windows.
I did a search on reformatting the mini from Mac to Windows but all the answers seemed to involve installing the iPod for Windows software. I don't seem to have this anymore, and Apple helpfully doesn't provide it for download.
Sooo...how is my boyfriend to reformat my mini for PC? Will just plugging it into a machine loaded with iTunes for Windows do it?
Sorry if this is an often asked question; maybe what I should be asking is where or whether I can get the iPod for Windows software. Will whatever is provided with the nano work for the mini on a PC?

Download the latest version of iTunes and the iPod software updater onto the PC. Install iTunes, then the iPod software updater. Then run the iPod software updater, connect the mini when told, and choose to restore.

  • About to Switch from Mac to PC: Tell Me I'm Not Crazy!

Well, after 17 years of being a loyal mac owner I'm about to pull the trigger on buying parts to build a pc workstation. I've used pc's for onsite jobs before and have fielded some pc tech support questions from independent clients, but I've never actually owned a PC based box myself. I'm moving from web and print design into video and motion graphics and can no longer stomach Apple's allowing the Mac Pro to linger in purgatory, so I need to make the switch.
I'm hoping for some words of encouragement and advice from those who've worked on both platforms. I'm assuming that from a hardware and upgradeability standpoint I'm making the right decision. The OS will be a hard thing to get used to, but I've heard like anything it just takes time.
I've also heard a lot of people say that performance is just better for rendering from programs like cinema 4d and maya. Is there truth to this? My primary apps will be AE, PR, C4D, PS, AI, some Flash, and possibly some Nuke. I also use audio apps like Ableton, and althought I've been a logic user for over a decade, ableton has slowly taken it's place so I'm ok letting it go.
If anybody has any advice on how to ease the pain of switching, antivirus software, things to watch out for, etc. it would be much appreciated. Also, does anybody remap their control key to a different position? I'm afraid I'm going to be terribly slow with key commands using the position of the control key as opposed to the apple/cmnd key!

I use both platforms, Mac and PC, and don't find any real differance in the user interface. I mean once you are working in your program it's the same program. Getting used to the Control key wasn't hard at all, so the differeances are minor. I like the way the files list in Mac but that's also minor to me and always have to click on the list view. However, my PC build has been rock solid. It has only crashed once in PrPro and I simply upgraded the defrag utility, application, so you go about solving issues the same way. It's also nice knowing what updates and upgrades are on the horizon. No secret upgrades and announcements or being completely in the dark not knowing if or when your hardware would be upgraded. Of course with the PC there is a lot more options. Don't skimp out on your components. Coming from a Mac point of view where you are paying a lot for good gear, go ahead and get a kick *** case, power supply, etc. I put my first one together in one night. I didn't get the most expensive RAM, (you know what RAM works, maybe you want the best) but spent an extra $150 on the case and extra $75 on the powersupply, and everything else wasn't the most expensive but best bang for the buck approach. It's nice having that opttion to fine tune and select exactly what you want for your budget as opposed to Apple's marketing stratigy to sell you up, where the sweet spot is not really available beween the limited selection.
Before I upgraded to Norton, the free Windows security kept my machine virus free for about a year. I thought Norton would find something but it didn't.
Shadow Protect is the best back up software. I've had a complete drive falier, where I had to remove the entire drive and put a new one in, and was back up in 30 minutes.
I use Perfect Disk and CCleaner. You can find lots of good info here at this site.
The only real issue I've had is when working on the same project and other editors are in FCP. However if they are willing to work in Premiere or AE it's a snap to transfer projects at the right time. Although a lot of people are still using FCP and Macs.
The advange is you will be able to use both, although you might only be able to afford one platform and might be the odd man out as the Mac people I've experienced are only know Macs and cling to FCP like a dying family pet.
Performace and value PC wins hands down for me. The only reason people are staying with Macs is they have a lot invested in plug ins.  I like Macs but the options are too restrictive.

  • Switching from Mac OS to Windows XP

I have one of the early Macbooks, 1.8GHZ with 2GB of RAM [just upgraded] and 80GB harddisk. I want to switch the computer entirely over to windows and get rid of Mac OS altogether as I have a number of specialist Windows only programs that I need to run for work. I think my computer would be too slow or have too little memory to have both or to run parallels.
Does anybody know of anywhere I can read up on how to do this transition? Ideally I'd like to wipe the HD and re-install everything, but don't know how to start my computer from scratch again. Do people recommend Windows XP or Vista? Any advice from people who have already done this would be much appreciated.

There are plenty of topics on this very question which gets asked fairly often depending on your search criteria.
    Short answer is no.
The OS X license agreement provides for installing and using it on a single Apple branded/labeled computer only.
The only way to install Tiger on a PC is via a hack of some sort and even if the hack is successful, very little on your PC would be supported and the overall performance would not be worth the trouble.
    > I was reading an artical and found out that the Mac OS X Tiger already has many of the things that the new windows vista has.
What you read is correct and it took Microsoft 5 years to come up with what amounts to a copy of OS X. I read there are 10 separate/different versions of Vista to choose from? How on earth is the average person (or even the above average person) expected to wade through all that confusing mess?
Apple is getting ready to launch a new OS X version called Leopard this spring which will place Windows even father behind.
If you want to run Tiger and Vista, purchase an Intel Mac which gives you the ability to run both operating systems natively on a single computer.

  • Switching from mac acct to pop acct

hi, on my laptop i had a trial version of "mac" and when i would open my mail it would pop up and ask me for a password. if i chose cancel it would then open my regular mail from my pop acct.
now all of a sudden my pop mail won't open because it keeps going "offline". i have clicked on the "go online" button but it switches to the mac password box. then i have gone to "switch to pop acct" but it goes off line again. what gives?
this has just started after 2 years of it working fine.
    thanks for the help!

thanks for the quick relpy. as far as the server being down, it will be up because on my imac it will be working fine. also - the imac never ask me for the "mac" password and that is the computer i orginally set this up for in '03. got the laptop in 06 and never had a trial version when i got that one.

  • Switching from Mac to Windows for CS5

I need the wisdom of the crowd...
I own the CS4 Production Premiere bundle for Mac. With CS5 coming out, I'm thinking of switching (back) to a Win7 PC - specifically for video editing. My footage is predominantly from the Canon 5D2 and I mostly edit on a Macbook Pro.  I have not seen any literature that the CS5 version of premiere or the Mercury playback engine will stop my footage from stutterinhg in Premiere Pro. I can live with longer render times, but don't want to transcode media in order to edit/playback in realtime. Even previewing a clip in PPro on the Mac will cause stuttter.
Rather than deck out a Mac Pro with Cuda card I'm thinking of going back to Windows and building an editing station with an i7 core and cuda card.  It also means going through the cross-platform licensing process again (I originally came from the PC world)
I'm really stuck with what to do here and would love the wisdom of the group
    Thanks in advance

Going back to the PC is a great idea.  I built a great system that would cost double what I put together on the MAC.  No brainer really.  I bet the difference in cost when cross-platform licensing changes you will still be ahead.

  • How do I switch from Mac to Windows quickly, without just restarting the computer?

I know i can go to bootcamp on the Windows side and click "restart in Mac OS" but is there a similar way to switch quickly from the Mac side over to the Windows side?

Apple has BootPicker http://www.apple.com/education/resources/bootpicker/ for this.

  • Using iPod as hard drive, switching from mac to windows

First off, I'm not sure if this belongs in the right section...
Anyway, my dad had to take my imac to his office and bought a windows for regular use at home because we weren't fully happy with an apple computer. Before deleting the files on the imac, i saved them to my 30gb ipod video. Now, when I try to access these files, it tells me that my ipod is formatted for mac and must be formatted for windows. Will this delete the files on my ipod? If so, how can I get my files/music off without anything being deleted?

Restoring an iPod will erase everything on it; prior to restoring the iPod, you can install MacDrive onto the PC and copy the files from the iPod onto the PC.

  • External Hard Drive- switching from Mac to PC?

I have an External Hard Drive that I purchased and have been using on my Powerbook G4. If I plug it into a PC, will it lose all my data or screw something up, or is that transition safe? I never formatted the EHD manually like someone suggested, it didn't need to be. It's a LaCie Hard Disk. I suppose it could have formatted itself. Thanks for any and all help!
    Neo_kid

    Neo_kid,
The drive wouldn't have formatted itself, you would have had to do that manually.
Mount the drive on your Mac and control-click on the drive icon on the desktop. Select "Get Info". What does it say for the Format? If the format is Mac OS Extended or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then you're going to need 3rd party software on the windows machine to read/write data from/to this disk.
If you plug it into a PC, it'll either be recognized as a disk that the PC can read (in which case you can use it), or it won't (in which case it'll probably ask you to format it). As long as you don't choose to format it, you won't lose any data or screw anything up.
