Switching from Palm OS to BlackBerry

Help! I'm so frustrated that I'm ready to return my BBStorm2 and try an iPhone. I've been trying to transfer my calendar and contacts from Palm OS to BB. I'm also using a Mac.

Maybe you should visit a Palm or Treo user forum and ask that question? Afterall, this is the BlackBerry user forum.
I know on a PC, you can export all of your Palm desktop data to the PC to an excel file, from which you can then import the excel data either to Outlook (Entourage on your Mac) or direct to the BlackBerry device.

  • Transfer Data from Palm OS to BlackBerry 10 Smartphones - US

(I am Posting this a 2nd time because I'm not sure it went through the first time; got some kind of authenication error message.)
    - 1. What is the best way to transfer my PIM Organizer Data from my Palm TX to a BlackBerry Z10?
    - 2. How do I obtain the standalone BlackBerry Desktop Software, latest Build of v.6.1? or even a version later than 6.1? or should I obtain v.5.0.1? or v.4.7?
I am currently a U.S. Cellular customer and when they make the BlackBerry Z10 available, I plan to switch from my Motorola feature phone to the Z10. I currently also use a Palm TX PDA (Palm OS Garnet v.5.4.9) and use Palm Desktop Software v.4.2 ( = the CD installation version of
v.4.1.4e?) on a Windows XPmachine. I could upgrade the Palm Desktop to v.6.2.2, but I haven't because v.4.2 on Windows XP is working well for me.
The support page for Z10, Transfer from iPhone & Android to BlackBerry 10 Smartphones - US ( http://us.blackberry.com/support/transferring-to-bb10-device/personal.html ) implies that it does not support direct transfer from Palm OS to BB v10; only transfers from Androids and iPhones, as well as from other BBs, are supported. I have searched your Knowledge Base and found several articles that tell me how to migrate my PIM data from Palm OS to earlier versions of BlackBerry. I then presume that once I have my data imported into the earlier version of BB Desktop I can then later import it into the BB10 Desktop software; am I correct?
Here are the Knowledge Base articles I found:
    1. Article ID:
KB03050 ( http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB03050 ) - How to transfer contact information from a Palm OS device to a BlackBerry smartphone
    2. Article ID:
KB04346 ( http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB04346 ) - Field mapping list for the PIM Data Migration Wizard
    3. Article ID:
KB04437 - ( http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB04437 ) How to use the organizer data migration wizard
    4. Article ID:
KB05421 - ( http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05421) What is the Switch Device Wizard?
The four articles all give slightly different advice, but
    Articles # 2 & 4
imply that I can export the PIM data from Palm to BlackBerry Desktop Manager
    v.5.0.1
and seem to have the most simple and clear instructions. However,
    Article #3
implies that I should use BB Desktop Manager no higher than
    v.4.7
    , and
    Article #1
implies that I can use BB Desktop Software as recent as
    v.6.1
and use "Method #2", which seems very long and complicated by transferring data to
    Microsoft Outlook
    as an intermediary step!
So I am confused as to which method to use.
Articles #2 & 4 & BB Desktop software v.5.0.1 seem the simplest, but if I need to use the latest possible version, 6.1 with Outlook as an intermediary to get superior results, then I am willing to follow this more complicated method as described in article #1. I want to use the method that will give me the best results with the lowest error rate, even it may be the most complicated way.
    ... Help!
    P.S.
    I also use
Agendus for Windows Palm Desktop Edition v.5.42( http://www.iambic.com/agendus/winpded/):
"Agendus for Windows is an application that enhances how you view your calendar, contacts, tasks and memos. It also provides intuitive tools, such as text capturing, a free time finder, voice recording, advanced search capabilities and Internet features (weather, driving directions, address lookup). All of these things help in make scheduling extremely easy and hassle free."
It can form hypertext links between the separate databases of the Palm Desktop (calendar, contacts, tasks and memos) so you can flip back & forth between the databses without having to close one before you open the other.
    There's also an
    Agendus for BlackBerry version (
    http://www.iambic.com/agendus/blackberry/
), but was developed pre-BB 10, and I think the code is sufficiently different between the BB and Palm versions, that I don't think it is easy to transfer data between them since the BlackBerry version synchronizes with Agendus for Windows Outlook Edition ( http://www.iambic.com/agendus/winoued/).
When I transfer my PIM data from my Palm to a BB-Z10, will I be able to keep those active hypertext links in Agendus in the transfer and still have them work?
    P.P.S.
    I also have
Palm Desktop by Access v.6.2.2 ( http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/tungsten/tx/unlocked/solutions/article/32859_en.html )installed on a Windows 7 machine, but I find that v.4.2 w/ the Windows XP machine tends to work better. However, I am willing to use whatever combination of Palm Desktop version together with Windows OS version that will get me the best and most accurate results. Palm Desktop v.6.2.2 also has an extension called Palm Conduit Switcher Application (OutlookSwitcher.exe v.1.3.0, which is accessible through Start > Palm > PIM conduit sync > Sync with Outlook) which supposedly will change my Palm handheld to sync w/ Outlook instead of with Palm Desktop; would that accomplish the same thing as Article #1 (ID: KB03050 > Method 2 > Tasks 1,2 & 3) and maybe be easier or do it better? But it would seem that the KB03050 method would leave my Palm Desktop intact, whereas the OutlookSwitcher application could delete my Palm Desktop in a process that would convert my data permanently to Outlook; am I correct? An earlier version of OutlookSwitcher.exe also is included in Palm Desktop v.4.2.
There are so many questions and options for me, I don't know which way to go! If you and your colleagues don't know the best way either, then I will most likely follow the advice in KB03050 in conjunction w/ upgrading my Palm Desktop to 6.2.2 on my Windows XP machine, since I would have the most control over datafield mapping, and the extra work spent doing that may pay off with a smaller error rate after the transfer, which gets me back to my second question at the top of this article: How can I obtain a copy of the latest Build of BlackBerry Desktop Software v.6.1 as a stand-alone application into which I can transfer all my PIM Data first, *before* I install & syncronize the new BB10 phone? Or should I use a version later than 6.1?
Sorry for this being so long and convoluted, but after going through all the permutations and combinations, it should be obvious to you that I now need the support of someone more expert and experienced in this before I do anything else. Thanks!

    Hey telemarkdoc,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Currently you can not transfer data from a Palm smartphone to a BlackBerry 10 smartphone through BlackBerry Link.  Also previous versions of BlackBerry Desktop Software will not work with BlackBerry 10 smartphones.
The only way this could work is that you transfer the information from the Palm software to Microsoft Outlook and then BlackBerry Link can synchronize the contacts and calendar information to the BlackBerry Z10.
    I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Device Switch from Palm Desktop 4.1.4 to BB Desktop 4.6.0.13 hangs - no data

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BB Desktop Software (downloaded a version from October from AT&T website). When I try to move my data from my Palm Desktop software v 4.1.4 to BB Desktop, it processes 6096 calendar entries out of 6395 and hangs. No data is transferred to the BB. Any suggestions? I could live with not transferring any calendar data - I need to get my contacts over and can't do that.
Help. I have 3000+ contacts I need to get over.
I tried blue tooth beaming my contacts from my Palm Tungsten T5 to my BB Bold but that fails (I think the Tungsten bluetooth doesn't have the right protocol for the Bold).
    Running on Windows XP, SP2.

Hi and welcomt to the forums!
If you have done multiple installations of the desktop manager I think the first thig
would be to use this procedure and reinstall the 4.6 softare. The procedure will clean all
registry entries that may affect latter versions.
First we need to clean the machine:

  • Switching from Palm desktop to ical

i have been using Palm for my calendar and Entourage for my email and address book. i would like to purchase the iphone, but need to change over to mail and ical. what would be the easiest way to do that?

If you choose to switch synchronization from the Palm DT to Outlook on your PC, Hotsync will simply sync all the PIM data (Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and notes) on you Treo 680 to Outlook. The remaining items will still sync with the Palm DT such as install, media, phone logs, and your installed application backups.

  • How to Switch from Palm Tungsten e to Tungsten T3

Sorry if this is not posted in the correct subject area, but it is sort of "Sync" related.
The touch screen on my old Tungsten/e has been gradually failing. Last month I managed to pick up a new (still boxed and sealed) Tungsten T3 at a garage sale for $1. Unfortunately I could not find any info here on how to switch my data/info/software over to another device. I am currently using Version 4.1.2 of Palm Desktop with my Tungsten/e. I did find postings related to the fact that you need 3rd party software to sync more than one device. I don't need to do that per se, I only need to be able to use the new unit. I just don't know how to get my existing stuff on it.
Any help would be appreciated (hoping there are still some other "Legacy" users out there)
    Thanks in advance, Dave

I should add I read the 'Transferring data from a Zire 32 to Tungsten E' post and followed the links provided. However in all situations covered therein, Palm states 'even if you have an earlier version of Palm Desktop you must install from the CD provided with your new device as it may contain features that were not previously available'.
Since I have a version of Palm Desktop that post dates the CD by several years/versions, I'm not sure how to proceed.
If I remember correctly the T3 isn't really newer than the e it was a concurrent more expensive model that has voice recording, bluetooth and a slide out widescreen.

  • Possible convert to Blackberry from Palm - please help with outlook questions

I'm debating switching from a Palm Treo 800 (battery life is awful) to Blackberry Curve. I chose the Treo because of active sync with my work exchange server and ability to open Office documents.
Currently, I sync my outlook mail, tasks & calendar with work, and my contacts & notes with my home computer. So if i follow your instructions for using BIS instead of BES (my employer only provides BES service for a carrier which is not mine ...), will I be able to sync manually with a cable to my work computer for  calendar & tasks and then to my home computer for contacts & notes?
I have to decide THIS WEEK if I'm going to switch from Palm to Blackberry, so please hurry! The blackberry seems like it's a lot more fun than the Palm, and your support is much more extensive and user-friendly!

Ok, so if both machines are Outlook based, I would not see a problem,
You would need  2 DM programs one at work and one at home.
For work you can specify sync for tasks and calendar, for home sync contacts and notes.
Both calendars would have to be the Outlook calendar as default.
You can the have the synced BB and would have the ability to backup on both machines, or better yet, back up on one machine to eliminate confusion. In case of failure, you have a backup of ALL data.
You wouldn't have to convert anything because Outlook is fully compatible with the Desktop Manager.
    I don't see a problem.
    Thanks

  • Switching from Treo to Blackberry

I am thinking about switching from a Palm Treo to a Blackberry world edition 8830 (Verizon).  I will need to sync with  both a mac and a pc.  I'm reasonably competent but not a techie by any means, so I need to keep things simple.  Our institutional tech support does not support PDA's so I have no tech support at work, even though I can load the blackberry software onto my computer.  I need to go through webmail to check my office email on a PDA (can't link directly).  I'm looking mainly to check email, have web access, and have an integrated phone/address book.  Does the 8830 seem like a good choice?  Also, is it easy to sync the calendar on the 8830 with Google calendar?  Will it be easy to move my data from Palm to Blackberry (I don't use Outlook)?

The blackberry device is your best option.

Sounds like your friend didn't disable iMessage on his/her iphone before switching.  Have your friend do the following:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of his/her old iPhone.
    Click "unregister"
This should unregister it with the iMessage server, which will allow you to send texts as normal SMS.
On your iPhone make sure you have Settings>Messages>Send As SMS set to ON.

  • Switch from syncing with palm to outlook -- not all calendar entries appear in outlook

I've been syncing (usb/cradle) my treo 700p with palm desk on a vista laptop with no problems, but want to switch back to using outlook 2003.  Everything EXCEPT calendar syncs fine. When I sync calendar nothing later that 2004 appears -- these were items that were in outlook when I switched to palm.  I've tried deleting them in outlook and resyncing with 'handheld overwrites desktop', but still only the old ones appear!   Please help!

  • Temporary Switch from Broken Palm Pre Plus

I currently have a Palm Pre Plus with and Unlimited Data plan. I can no longer use it due to various damage, and rather than shill out $100 to the Asurion insurance I have on it, a friend gave me their Motorola Devour they no longer use. I was hoping to temporarily transfer my service over to the Devour until I can get my upgrade in January, but when I try to do it online, it tells me I must buy a tiered plan. This should not be true because I am switching from smartphone to smartphone. Is their a way to do this so that I keep my grandfathered plan?

Call in to Customer Service from another phone and have them assist you with the swap.  The different types of smartphones have different data plans on Verizon's back-end, so the rep should be able to help you.

I just switched from a blackberry to a new iPhone 5 S - I would love to be able to add my address book to the new iPhone.  How do I do this easily without having to manually add each no.

Unless your carrier doesn't have the required SIM card size, you can get a new SIM card from your carrier. There is usually no charge for this.
If you don't have an Apple iCloud account or if you do being accessed on the iPhone with contacts turned off for over the air syncing, you should be able to transfer contacts from the Address Book app on your Mac via the iTunes sync process. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.
If you have an iCloud account, you can sync contacts over the air with the Address Book on your Mac. After confirming your contacts are available with your iCloud online address book - checked by logging in with your iCloud account using a browser on your Mac, you can then turn Contacts on for over the air syncing with your iCloud account settings on your iPhone and your contacts will then be available there and kept synced automatically over the air between your iPhone address book, your iCloud online address book, and the Address Book on your Mac without having to sync with iTunes for this.

  • Blackberry Hub slow when switching from any account to an Exchange Activesync account

I'm experiencing a very slow hub when switching from any account (facebook, LinkedIn, Whatsapp, Gmail, etc...) TO my work email using Exchange Activesync. When switching back from Exchange Activesync TO any other account the issue is noy there. It basically takes a couple of minutes to enter the Exchange Activesync acocunt, and looking at the Device Monitor, CPU section, seems like the Hub process is constantly at 50% CPU usage during this time. This is really causing me lots of issues, as of course I switch between accounts quite frequently. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for the support!

I'm having the same issue.  What can be causing it.
It was fine using a Z30 until 10.3.1.1865 was recently updated.
Switching between all other accounts is fine just when going to my exchange account (or the main hub view)

  • Switching From The Original BlackBerry Storm to Droid X

Ordered my phone through Verizon on 8/25. My X is expected to ship by 9/9. Anyone else switch from the BB Storm? If so, what should I expect from the X? Is there a big difference?
FWIW, I absolutely loath the Storm. It's the worst phone I've ever owned. So, I'm expecting/hoping for a lot from the X

My wife and I also went from BB to Droid.  She got the Droid 2 (Came in day after I ordered on the phone) to replace her Curve and I got the X (arrived two weeks later) to replace my Storm 1.  What a difference!  Here's the rundown of what I see different so far (had it for just over a week).
    1. Fast!  Everything is fast.  Browser loads pages several times faster than the Storm.  Scrolling, pinch to zoom, and every other aspect of browsing is amazing in comparison.  I used to dread getting on the web with the Storm and would prefer to wait till I could get to a computer.  Not any more! Switching apps is equally speedy and multitasking is awesome.
    2. Much better memory management.  I had quick pull on my Storm scheduled to reboot every morning and was still getting slow and hourglasses by early evening.  I haven't had to reboot my X yet for slowdown.  I also have tons more apps installed.  I was down to only a few apps on my Storm to free up as much memory as possible.  I just keep downloading more on my X with no problems.
    3. The screen does take a little getting used to.  I was in the habit of letting my finger rest on the screen to keep it on with my Storm.  It can be pretty sensitive for typing as well.  I get a few extra letters here and there but I'm getting better.  (Using swype helps alot).
    4. Did I mention it's fast?
    5. Battery life is about the same.  Except I am still playing with the X alot more.
    6. I wasn't a big business user and already use gmail for my personal email, as well as google calendar.  I had google sync on my Storm so the transition was easy there. My wife does use a pop account for her work email so it is kind of a bummer that it isn't push like the BB, but she's ok with it.  Switched from using BB Messenger to Google Talk with no problems either.  If you have a big list of contacts in BB Messenger, keep an eye on an app called CrossTalk that promises to be able to send BBM messages from Android phones.
    7. Kinda bummed there isn't a unified inbox like on my Storm, but having everything show up in the notification drop down is just as good.
    8. It's fast, even without battery pulls!
