Switching from Parallels to Fusion.  How hard is it?

I'm strongly considering switching from Parallels, which I currently use, to Fusion. However, I do not want to open myself up to a mind numbing, drive to drink experience. Has anybody made this switch? How hard is it? The only thing I use Parallels for is Quicken, but this is extraordinarily important to my life so I don't want to screw everything up. Thanks.

Fusion has a converter that can do this: http://www.vmware.com/download/fusion/windowstomac.html

  • Switching from status to lccs, how easy is it?

    Hi there,
I was just wondering if anyone here had, like me created an application using stratus and then decided to switch to lccs?
How easy is it? Can you just change your connection endpoint and skipp all the rooms etc? or do you basically have to re-write a lot of your code to use the lccs framework?

  • I have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

i have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

    rebel1568,
All Photoshop versions through CS6 came with platform-specific licenses, either Windows or PC.  You could get a cross-grade of platform swap at a nominal cost but not for older versions, only for whatever Photoshop versions was current at the time.
CS3 is totally out of the upgrade or cross-grade loop.  You'd have to buy a new license for CS6 Mac or subscribe to Photoshop CC, as Trevor points out.
Curt Y is correct in that CS2 will not run on current Mac-Intel machines.  You would need a used Mac G5 or G4 with a PowerPC (IBM) CPU, which have been obsolete since mid 2006.
Of course, you could run your Windows  on your Mac if you installed and ran BootCamp or Parallells.

  • HT5639 Switching from Parallels to Boot Camp

How do I switch from Parallels to Bootcamp?  I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 17" with latest OS and running Windows 8 on Parallels.  I am unable to run SimCity (newest) on parallels, and read that it works on bootcamp.

Back up any data you want from your Windows installation. Remove Parallels and the virtual machine Windows file.
Run Bootcamp Assistant and follow the instructions to partition your drive and install Windows. Copy ypour backed up data that you saved to the Bootcamp Windows partition. Reinstall all your Windows programs.

  • Has anyone switched from Parallels 4 to VM Fusion 3 - What do you think?

I am considering the jump, as I have been really impressed with VM Ware's instructional videos. The product looks solid.
Has anyone else made the jump? What do you think?
    Thanks!

I've been playing with them both on the same machine because I had the Fusion 3 beta. My experience has been through accessing Boot Camp.
Both do a fine job of accessing Boot Camp, but I found that Parallels is less of a headache than Fusion because every time you boot in to fusion it asks for a password, and if you are not running as administrator then you are asked for the password several times. If you are no an administrator, and do not know the administrator password then I am not sure how you can use fusion. Parallels does not seem to ask for this, which means you can set Parallels to start up the virtual machine and it does so without trouble.
I did notice that Parallels triggers reactivations of the Microsoft software, which is annoying. I have not tried fusion with Windows 7, so do not know what will happen with that. Interestingly, Parallels works OK with fusion installed as well, but Fusion did not seem to like Parallels. The reason I have both is that I got Fusion 2 with my Macbook and parallels 4 free with a MacUpdate package.
I found that bi-directional copy and paste seemed to work more cleanly in Parallels than Fusion, but I see little or no difference between their general operation. It is hard to tell if there is a speed difference. Parallels does not support AERO on Windows 7, but who cares about that?
The upgrade cost from Fusion 2 to 3 and from Parallels 3 to 4 are both reasonable, but it seems like fusion is $10 less expensive at $39. Those of us in education get it for $19, which means I might pay to upgrade anyway.
I am a long time Fusion user, I switched to Fusion and really liked it, but right now I am also happy enough with Parallels and cannot tell any real difference other than easier startup. One thing that is really nice about fusion, that could take me back is that they have a menu bar icon to access the start menu and it is really slick. Parallels relies on the dock icon and it is flakey.

  • Switched from Windows to Mac, How do you change genre info

Hello, like the title says, I switched from Windows to Mac.  I purchased the Mac Mini and when I import my movie files from my external hard drive into iTunes, not all are labeled correctly and in the right genre.  I want to change the genre and add the cover art but iTunes is coming up gray and will not allow me to change.  How can I do this?

    Don't import anything.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old comptuer to /Music/ on new computer.
This is all you need to do to copy iTunes.
Everything in iTunes will be exactly as it was on other computer.

  • Data Views: Switching from IQ to Crystal: How to?

    Hi everyone,
My company is looking to make the switch from IQ Report Writer 5 to Crystal Reports XI or 2008.
We have a couple questions though on how to make this switch easier.
I may need to talk to Business Objects support instead, but I thought I'd try here first.
Our data currently resides in a vision file format which is type of flat file.
Currently with the IQ Writer, we can establish IQ Views, which are essentially just predefined links between the different data tables. A user selects which view they will use for a report, then are able to pick and choose which columns to use from that view. A view may contain many tables, but when the report is generated, it will only access the tables necessary based on the columns selected.
Example: IQ View A constists of Tables A, B, and C. The view is defined as A.Column1 = B.Column1 and B.Column2 = C.Column2. If a user chooses columns from A and B, then the query only runs against tables A and B and doesn't have to process the data from C, which cuts down processing Cost.
Is there any way to create views like this in Crystal Reports XI? I know if we convert to SQL Server (which we have done for some users) we can create SQL Views, but the thing I noticed with SQL Views, was that it ran the query against Tables A, B, and C, even though C wasn't needed and it ended up returning duplicate rows. I could get around the duplicate info with a select distinct statement, but it still had to process the extra info, which increased the cost.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If it's a question for Business Objects Support, let me know.

    Hello,
I think you'll find more assistance with your post if move your post to the Crystal Reports Design - [SAP Crystal Reports;.  This category is for Business Objects Enterprise related questions.  I hope that helps you.

  • Switching from Parallels to VM Fusion

I'm thinking about switching to VMware fusion but I'm worried I may loose all my files and programs installed on Parallels. Is there a way I can save them? What do I do? Thanks in advance.

Hi Thomas and welcome to Discussions,
VMWare Fusion includes a tool to import a Parallels VM http://vmwareelearning.blip.tv/file/1259426/
And btw. your files and programs are not installed in Parallels but in the Virtual Machine you made/used with Parallels.

  • Switched from Dell to MacBook - External Hard Drive - Can't Modify - Help!

    Hello.
I recently switched to a MacBook from a Dell Inspiron, hold your applause.
Anyway, I have a 150GB SimpleDrive Deluxe External Hard Drive from SimpleTech that I saved all of my files (music, photos, documents, etc.) from my Dell. I have no problems accessing the files from the MacBook however, I cannnot add anything to the External Hard Drive. I get the "the item _ cannot be moved because the drive cannot be modifed" bit.
I need to continue to utilize the external drive for storage of files.
Do I need to format/partition the external drive for a mac os x environment? I am aware that if I do partition the external drive now that all the data currently on it will be lost!
    Any advice?

Your drive is obviously formatted as NTFS, which is a proprietary Microsoft file system, and is read-only on non-Windows operating systems.
You'll have to reformat the drive in order to write to it.

  • Just switched from Windows to Mac, how do I back my contacts, texts etc.?

I've been synching my iPhone to my Windows XP laptop for over a year for everything. I have backups of my phone on my Windows laptop which came in handy when I got a replacement iPhone and put all the contacts, texts etc. from my old one onto the new one.
I recently bought a new Macbook because my old laptop was dying on me. I don't want to sync my phone with 2 computers at the same time, I want my Macbook to be what I use for everything. Using an external HD I transfered all my music and videos over to the Macbook, and they're good to go in iTunes.
When I connect my iPhone to the Macbook, it doesn't give me an option to create a backup of the phone. This is very important if my phone ever decides to die and I get another one and easily sync it back with iTunes. If I decide to restore the phone with the Macbook, will it create a backup before it wipes it?

  • Switching from Windows to mac, how to get master collection cs5 package for mac instead?

Purchased Abobe Master Collection CS5 in 2010 and had been using Windows as an operating system since but I'm about to make the switch to OSX. However the download package and serial numbers I purchased are for windows, can I switch to mac download packages and will my serial numbers work for them?
    Thanks,
    Nicholas

Unfortunately, Creative Suite packages are operating system-specific.  Further, platforem swaps are only supported for the mst recent release which is CS6.  You can read more about the policy thru the link below:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.htm l

  • Switching from Mac to PC - how to download the PC version

I purchased Illustrator CS5 in 2011 for my mac.  I've now purchased a PC and would like to download to my new machine, but I only have access to download the mac version.  How can I download to my new PC?

Unfortunately it's not possible. What you want to do is easy with the Cloud but not with Creative Suites.
Creative Suite serial numbers are specific to your operating system: PC only or Mac only.
There is a platform swap procedure available but it only applies to the current version: CS6. Not CS6.
Order product | Platform, language swap
    Options:
    Upgrade to CS6 for Windows
    Join the Cloud

  • Open Bex workbook from BPS web interface,How hard it could be?

    Hi all,
I want to add a link or function-button in my BPS web interface, hope it could open a query(excel analyser),I tried 2 methods as follow:
       1. MIME , It can only open a static excel file, not a analyser query. I gave up this method.
       2. I use the program RRMX_START_EXCEL and add a plan function which is a EXIT in BPS0,in my EXIT function I used some code in  RRMX_START_EXCEL,I test it in BPS0 ,it works ,it can open a analyser excel query. But when I put this plan function(including a parameter group ) in BPS_WB ,when I click the function-button in web interface, it crashed, says:
    Error when processing your request
    What has happened?
The URL http://bw1.:8000/sap/bc/bsp/sap/zwebcaxa001_998/page1.htm was not called due to an error.
    The termination type was: TH_RES_FREE
    and some other Error infomation,
Is it possible to realize my requirement? or Web interface and analyzer are just 2 total differrent things ,it is not possible to realize this?
    thanks all

    Hi Denny,
Have a look at www.javascript.internet.com and do a search for "whatfile".....
This should give you the javascript code whereyou can enter a file name (say an excel file name) and click a button to navigate to it.
Although I have not tried exactly what you have asked, I have successfully used parts of this code to open specified files (excel files) on our local directory from a BPS planning web page.
Obviously you will need to adapt the code to your specific evironment/situation...
    Good luck.

  • Switching from MSN to firefox, how do I retrieve my favorite bookmarks? I haave tried the procedure outlined but I am not getting my favorite folders.

I have tried to import my Favorites from MSN (Internet Explorer) but I am not getting the bookmarks that I have available on MSN

Go to the "Convert bookmark file" web page at http://www.linkagogo.com/go/Convert?informat=msn&outformat=netscape to convert the MSN Explorer file '''favorites.xml''' ('''input''' format) into a "Netscape (also Mozilla and Firefox)" HTML file ('''output''' format) . (If you have problems locating the "favorites.xml" file on your computer, read the "MSN Explorer users" section of the web page and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_foldersthis article].) After converting, use "File -> Save Page as" to save the output. You can then import the HTML file you just saved into your Mozilla browser using the "[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks#From_file Import from file]" feature of the Bookmarks Manager (see above). You can alternately try the MSN Favorites Export Toolkit, available from http://www.mainsoft.fr/en/downloads.htm to convert the MSN Explorer file (favorites.xml) into a Netscape bookmarks file (bookmark.htm) which you can then import into your Mozilla browser (details [http://www.tutorials-win.com/IE/favourites-1835/ here]).

  • Photoshop 9 Deactivating When Switching From Boot Camp to Parallels....?

I have Adobe Photosop Elements 9 on my macbook, which I use both in native Boot Camp and in Parallels. I keep getting a window which says "this serial number has already been activated on two machines, please deactivate one of the other machines and retry, or purchase a new licence". The same copy is installed on my home PC. Presumably whenever I switch from Parallels to Boot Camp or vice versa, the Adobe licence check recognises the macbook in its new mode as a third machine, when in fact it is the same BootCamped copy of windows that i am running under parallels. How do I make Photoshop 9 see my macbook as the same machine, whether under Parallels or BootCamp ?

    Randall P wrote:
I just installed Boot Camp and Windows XP, and things seem to be working well. I'm planning on buying Parallels so I can avoiding rebooting between the two. Do I need to, or should I uninstall Boot Camp? Can I drag the Boot Camp icon to trash to gain back that hard disk capacity?
You can tell Parallels to use your Bootcamp installation as the virtual machine. You don't need to do anything with Bootcamp then but access it from Parallels. No need to uninstall it. You then can access your Windows without rebooting, or if you want to you still have the option to boot into bootcamp whenever you get the urge to do so.
No you can't just drag the Bootcamp partition to the trash.
