Switching from pc format to mac format

i recently bought a macbook and started using my video ipod on the mac. wheni downloaded movies from the itunes store it said that the vio could not be put on my ipod because it needed to be updated. when i tried to update it it said only macintosh format ipod can be updated. what do i do? how do i re format my ipod for my mac without deleting my music and moves? is there a simpler way to put the movies on the ipod?

Do you use the iPod only on Macs? And is all your content still in your iTunes library?
If Yes to both those questions, go ahead and do a restore on the iPod which will erase it & reset everything to normal. And then you can sync back onto the iPod all your library content.
If you use the iPod on a Windows machine as well and all your content is somewhere on either computer that can be retrieved after restoring the iPod, then restore it on the Windows machine so it will be in windows format (a Mac can read a windows iPod, but Windows can not read a Mac iPod). After restoring, sync back the content from the Windows machine to the iPod, then put the iPod into manual update mode. Eject it, move it to the Mac and put content from the Mac onto it.

  • I am switching from a pc to mac and want to know how I go about transferring files from one to the other.  There is a chance that I will have to hand my pc back before I receive my MacBook so I will need to transfer on to some sort of external hard drive.

I am switching from an acer laptop to a MacBook Pro.  I may have to hand in my laptop before I receive my new MacBook. What is the best way to back up my files so that I can transfer them to my MacBook.  I cloud cannot be installed on my laptop because it uses a version of windows that is older and doesn't support it.  Hope someone can help.

Connect a blank powered external drive to the PC.
Right click on the Disk in the File manager and choose format: exFAT
(if it's a XP machine, first install exFAT from Microsoft and reboot)
navigate to your user account folders on the PC and drag and drop copy (or copy and paste) to the external drive.
(if a program has your files, then export them out first)
Hook up the drive to the Mac, and transfer files to the desktop or to their same appropritate folders.
Import photo's into iPhoto program, import music into iTunes etc and they will manage those files.
You can continue to use the external exFAT drive between Mac's and PC's
Do not format the drive NTFS or FAT, NTFS can't be written too by the Mac and FAT can't hold over 4GB sized files.
If you format exFAT on the Mac, it likely won't work correctly on the  PC.
"Migration" type programs are a utter waste of time and effort between PC's and Mac's for the fact that only certain files (and no programs or anything else) will work between them, also it's a hassle and takes too long. So don't even bother with it.

  • Recent Switcher from XLS needs help on Formatting UPC Codes in Cells

I frequently need to have 11 and 12 digit UPCs in my cells. Many of them have a leading ZERO. XLS has a way to custom format for them so it does not drop the leading zero or you can put it back if it has been dropped on opening.
Is there a way to custom format a text cell to include that leading ZERO or put it back in a column it has been dropped from?

    OK,
I wished to know how they must be displayed.
In column B I used the formula:
    =LEFT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),1)&" "&MID(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),2,5)&"-"&MID(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),7,5)&" "&RIGHT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),1)
    In column C I used:
    =LEFT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),6)&" "&RIGHT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),6)
If you tell me which is the correct format I would be able to give an AppleScript doing the formatting easily with no auxiliary column.

  • Switching from cross tab to tabular format

How can I change from crosstab to tabular format on an existing report?
    Please email to [email protected]
    Thanks very much.
    Cherie Machler

    Hi Cherie
As suggested by Mohamed you can duplicate a worksheet as a table from a crosstab, however to answer your particular question you cannot change a worksheet style. Once it has been set to either crosstab or table that's the way it must remain. The solution would be to replicate the worksheet as the other style.

A Google search turned up this device as only being sold in Arabic countries - I can't tell for sure what it is: a stereo receiver? You're just going to have to check with the manufacturer to see if there is OS X support for the device.

  • Switching From Windows XP to Mac

    Hello,
I am currently using a iPod color formatted for Windows and using iTunes for Windows running on Windows XP. I am considering purchasing a new MacBook Pro and a new video iPod as I am tired of dealing with "Windows Rot".
    I have a questions:
    1. Will I be able to move my music (both imported, downloaded, and purchased from iTunes) from my current Windows XP PC and my current Windows formatted iPod to a new iPod and new Mac?
Thanks for any relative feedback for this possible Mac convert!

Yes, you will be able to copy the files over. Once you open them in iTunes on the mac they will be copied into the "Music" folder. Don't forget to deauthorize your windows machine so that you're not using up one of your 5 locations for your purchased music. I used Remote Desktop when I was copying my music over. Hope this helps.

  • Trouble syncing iPod Classic after switching from Windows XP to Mac OS X

I'm using an 80 GB iPod Classic (the first iPod classic to come out) and I've had it for a little over two years. Ever since I've had it, I've been syncing it with a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows XP Professional. Haven't had any problems since buying it.
I recently bought a 13-inch Macbook Pro, and spent a long time transferring my music from my Windows computer over to this one. When it was done, I formatted my iPod Classic for Mac and tried to sync my library. It works slowly and steadily until the syncing freezes at a random song. Usually after about 700-800 songs is when this happens.
Then my iTunes starts moving very slowly and it's impossible to get the iPod to stop syncing or eject properly. I had to force quit the program and eject the iPod's disc before I could try again. I struggled with syncing in this way about 3 times before I gave up. Now I'm trying to add music manually, a little bit at a time.
However, every time I eject the iPod to see if my songs are getting put on there, it says there is no music. When I go to the "about" screen, it says I have memory on the device, but none of it is music.
I've tried reformatting through iTunes and erasing the disc using disc utility. Anything else I should do?

There are plenty of topics on this very question which gets asked fairly often depending on your search criteria.
    Short answer is no.
The OS X license agreement provides for installing and using it on a single Apple branded/labeled computer only.
The only way to install Tiger on a PC is via a hack of some sort and even if the hack is successful, very little on your PC would be supported and the overall performance would not be worth the trouble.
    > I was reading an artical and found out that the Mac OS X Tiger already has many of the things that the new windows vista has.
What you read is correct and it took Microsoft 5 years to come up with what amounts to a copy of OS X. I read there are 10 separate/different versions of Vista to choose from? How on earth is the average person (or even the above average person) expected to wade through all that confusing mess?
Apple is getting ready to launch a new OS X version called Leopard this spring which will place Windows even father behind.
If you want to run Tiger and Vista, purchase an Intel Mac which gives you the ability to run both operating systems natively on a single computer.

  • Switch from Windows To A Mac / Update

Girlfriend has dell laptop. Buys 30GB video iPod. Sets it up in windows, uses it loves it. Decides to buy new MacBook & switch (thank God). She's got tons of stuff on her iPod that she has since deleted off her HD due to space constraints. She can no longer update her iPod software since it was originally formatted FAT32. The option's greyed out on her MacBook. Using a PC to just update the iPod software seems ridiculous.
Optimally, I'd like to use software to back up her iPod and then reformat it as Mac so she can easily update the software as necessary. Problem is, all the software I've seen takes the stuff on the iPod and puts it in iTunes automatically. This would be annoying because a) She doesn't have all that space on her HD and b) some stuff is already in the iTunes Library, so it would create dupes.
I want to easily update her iPod software now and in the future.
I'm assuming this would best be accomplished by reformatting it for Mac.
I don't want to lose any stuff on her iPod, and don't want to create hours worth of work fiddling with iTunes managing space & duplicate songs.
I told her Macs were easier and better. Help me prove it!
    Any suggestions?

  • Switching from Windows 7 to Mac OS 10

If I buy a Mac, can I move my iTunes files from my PC to my Mac? My iPod is configured for Windows. Can it be reconfigured for OS X or do I need to buy another iPod?

Assuming the library is in the usual location on the PC and consolidated, i.e. all files are in the *C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media* folder:
Copy the entire iTunes folder from the PC to the Mac. I.e. copy the folder C:Users<User>MusiciTunes from the PC to <User>/Music/iTunes on the Mac. If you've already setup iTunes on the Mac rename <User>/Music/iTunes as *<User>/Music/iTunes (Empty)* first. N.b. you can either network the computers or use a FAT32 formatted drive to handle the transfer.
On the Mac, rename the file *<User>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl* as *<User>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library*.
Delete the files *iTunes Library Genius.itdb* (apparently the Mac & PC version are not compatible) and *iTunes (Music) Library.xml*. iTunes will rebuild them automatically.
Start iTunes. This is the same library you used before and your devices should sync to it as if nothing has happened, at least as far as the media is concerned. I've no personal experience with contacts and other PIM data as I'm synced with Exchange but (where applicable) it should remain on the device and you should be able to set it up to sync with your new computer.

  • Switching from a PC to Mac - anything I should know?

I'm from Canada, planning on purchasing the absolutely shiny BlackBook, with 2gb RAM and 200gb harddrive online.
I have never used a Mac before, and was just browsing through the forum. The Mac seems to have far less problems than a PC.
I'm looking for experiences, things-to-knows regarding the MacBook in general. Especially from Windows users that have now switched. What's the transition like? Is it intuitive?
Are there any specific MacBook related problems that seem to reoccur?

go with a mac...I was kind of wary of getting one myself, I used to give my husband a hard time for wanting one but now that I have my macbook I use it way more than my pc because I have less problems with it, it takes a lot less time to boot up versus my pc as well, also on mac NO VIRUSES!!
