Switching from ProTools to LogicPro - some frustrations

I am a long time ProTools user, and I have sold my ProToolsHD2 rig and switched to LogicPro7.2 and RME Fireface 400. It seems like a great setup (for a fraction of what ProToolsHD costs), but I have a few questions or problems:
1. When I drag audio files to a track and later drag these files (adjust where they start on the timeline), I always get audio clicks or noise when I go into playback. The noise will vary from time to time, and sometimes it's gone. This sounds like an audio buffer problem or something. It would be nice to hear from you experienced users.
2. Is there a way to setup LogicPro so that when I click on the spacebar, the playback stops - and when I click the space bar again, it continues from the very same point it was stopped?
3. I sometimes experience strange or unreliable behaviour of the automation curves. When I drag (reposition) audio regions with automation, sometimes the automation in the start and/or end of the region, will get a different value than it had before. It looks like LogicPro is not able to set the correct value on the start and end point of the region when the region is dragged to a different position on the timeline. (This used to be a problem with ProTools in version 5 or something.)
4. LogicPro looks like an old application to me. It is very computer'ish with all it's windows and menus. It's still so visible that it wasn't developed by Apple... I wonder if Apple will redesign it or just let it live as long as possible with the old user interface, in order to satisy all the old users that don't want anything to be changed...?

Thanks for offering your very level-headed perspective on PT and Logic. They are different, which means that their usefulness in certain applications might be limited when comparing one to the other.
I'm sure that to a great extent forums reflect people's opinions just as they do in "real-time life", but for some reason, when people post on these forums seeking to compare one system with another, they don't actually ask for comparison; the premise of so many of these kinds of posts reads as:
"Which is better, PT or Logic?"
As a result, such questions tend to polarize people, factions develop, and arguments ensue. I cannot understand why one has to be seen as "better" than another, or, why the next version of Logic needs to be a "ProTools killer".
I don't work on PT that often, but for the last two sessions I did outside of my studio we worked not only in PT, but did so without doing much actual sequencing. I played live. LIVE! They were both dance music sessions and so my bass lines were massaged a bit with beat detective so that they locked in machine-like fashion with the kick. We did a little MIDI sequencing/editing of a particularly difficult arpeggiator-like part, and I found the MIDI editing in PT to be cumbersome (even when operated by a highly skilled PT engineer). Were I to be using Logic I would have edited the part in about 10 seconds and been done.
On the flip side, the audio editing was beautiful and lightning fast.
Anyway, I kinda wish more people would adapt your kind of level-headed thinking about differences between systems.

Considering Switching from Cubase (finally). Some questions.

I've been a cubase user for the past 10 years and am a little tired of Steinberg's lack of support and the fact that they break more things than the fix in their updates. I've been to a friends studio (who just switched to a Mac)and am trying to get familiar with Logic before I plunk down the dollars. He has a 4 core mac pro with 4gb ram.
Here are my questions:
1. When you record arm the track, why does the audio engine "glitch"? The cubase engine wouldn't drop out sound because of arming a track.
2. Is there a way to have the program auto record arm a selected audio track the way cubase does?
3. When you "arm" a audio track, why are you limited to what functions you can perform on the mixer,etc? Is there a way around this.
I would really appreciate any help possible. The Logic 8 studio package is really tempting for a million reasons, but the above things seem to get in the way of my workflow.

I'm using Cubase on PC with the same RME card that's in my Mac, (not the same card, but same make/model) and it's rock solid on the PC. I 've upgraded to the latest version of 4.xx and it's fixed most outstanding issues I've had. I was a long time Logic user on PC from the early MIDI only days and used it up through version 4 which was bad news. Trying over the past year to get back into Logic, there's a lot to like, I need something with a little more whoomph than the dual 1.8G5. OSX is certainly ummm. what did they use to call Windows, bloated. I can't believe how much overhead OSX has, Tiger is better, Panther flew, such is the price of progress.
Oh and I don't miss having to turn off my monitor manually when Cubase was running as it would interfere with the screen saver and energy settings. Although this was relatively minor, it was completely unacceptable and extremely annoying. I sincerely hope it's been fixed in recent versions of Cubase.
I never minded the monitor thing, nor the fact that the computer didn't sleep when Cubase was running. OSX and some audio interfaces lose connecton if/when the computer goes to sleep or a screensaver opens. Seems more professional, they could make it an option though. I think most users disable those OSX features when using their machines for Audio/MIDI.
As far as the colors go, you'll forget all about it once you start colorizing your regions.
Didn't you use the custom color setup?
When working on my own material I've often gone back and forth between the two as ideas develop differently on each platform.

Hey guys, switched from pc to mac some months back, but ive kept syncing my iphone on my PC, now i want to sync it with my mac, because im abroad and want to put some new music on it...
im just insecure with my contacts, if i sync it with my mac, whats gonna happen with all my contacts?is there gonna be any problem? i even walked in to a local mac store here to ask, he couldnt insure me that they would still be there
after the switch to mac, can i save my contacts in my adress book on my mac book?
sorry if these might seem easy quesiton, but i live off my iphone during the days and loosing the contacts would be horribly

Before you sync your phone with the mac, make sure you've authorized the computer in itunes. Next put at least one contact in address book, it can be a fake contact, doesn't matter. Do the same thing with ical, if you have appointments you want to save. Next, connect your phone to itunes, cancel any popups that appear. Go up to file, transfer purchases made on this ipod to this computer. All of the purchased music/apps will then be transferred. Music you ripped on your own will not be transferred, you'll have to restore that from your backup. You can now sync, when the popup appears about merging contacts, click yes. You will not lose your contacts or appointments.

This problem is often caused by "Google Drive." If it's installed, I suggest you first check for an update. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove it according to the developer's instructions. You may need to boot in safe mode to do so. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you use Google Drive and don't want to remove it, then try deselecting the option in its preferences to "show status icons." According to reports, that may be enough to stop the Finder from crashing.

HT4623 just switched from iphone 5 back to a 4 S on T Mobile, for some reason I am only getting 2g instead of 4G like I use to. Store said I need to do a carrier update in order for it to work. Is that accurate? If so, How do I get a carrier update?

Just switched from H20 to T Mobile. For some reason I am only picking up 2G instead of 4G Network on this phone. Is there a way to get a carrier update to fix this? I have other T Mo devices at same location and they are all picking up 4G service

Try reindexing the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.
Reindex messages.
If that doesn't work try deleting MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.
Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mail Data/MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3. Move the file to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the file from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return thefile to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Switching from Comcast - Need some Assistance

I have been a Comcast subscriber for many years now, but have heard that FiOS is supposed to be better. However, there are a few things that make me somewhat ambivalent about switching. First off, I've had Comcast for years, and have had a few issues with them, but not THAT many. So I don't know if it'd be worth it to change, since a new provider might not be as good. But also, I noticed that carriage of local channels is different on FiOS than it would be on cable, since I would assume it would be the same throughout the entire market. For instance, in the Boston area, some communities near the Rhode Island border receive Providence channels as well as Boston on cable, but not on FiOS. I've also heard that FiOS' On Demand selections are rather different. I know there's tons of movies on demand, but what about TV shows, and local events? I also saw a post here from someone who doesn't get local weather on their system. So I've heard that in a way, FiOS is more like satellite than it is like cable.
Anyway, I'm sure that many of you here who now have FiOS TV have switched from cable, and let me ask you this: Have any of you ever considered switching back? Why, or why not?

I switched from comcast to verizon at the end of last year.
my sole reason for switching was due to savings of $40/month. To me, the quality, speed, and service appears to be the same (or hardly noticeable to make a significant difference).
the main advantage for switching to FIOS is money. Some small advantages FIOS has over Comcast is some of their local networks on-demand content. I believe that Comcast only provides CBS while Verizon offers ABC, NBC, and CBS (neither carry Fox on-demand).
the main disadvantage to me is that you do NOT need a set-top box to get all of the channels with comcast. a simple splitter will suffice. for FIOS, you need to rent the box for each tv or else you will not get a picture. another disadvantage is that the free movies on Comcast are far more vast and far better than Verizon. However, Verizon is aware of this and are slowly adding more content throughout this year.
As for customer serivce, it's hit or miss with both. You'll read many horror stories and happy stories from both sides, so to me, that's almost a risk or expectation with any paid service.
that being said, FIOS has made considerable advancements in technology in their internet and cable service over the past few years while keeping the costs to the consumers down. comcast, on the other hand, has not made any significant technological advances (at least none that I know of, although they do claim to double your internet speed every year, but so does everyone else).
thus, even though I must rent a box for each of my 6 tvs, I'm still saving $40/month, but we'll see what happens when the 1-year promotion ends this december.

Some issues after switching from 686 to x86_64

Hi all,
after switching from i686 to x86_64 using this link I am now facing some minor issues with some packages. I already activated the multilib repository but some problems remain. I checked the binaries in /usr/bin for 32 bit executables as described in the above link and there are 177 "bad" binaries left. I thought all of these were not executable, but surprisingly wine was. Strange!
ffmpeg is another 32 bit executable and not runnable. So I tried to reinstall it, but that failed:

I think the first issue you will run in to is that the interface for an old P4 hdd will probably not be the same as a new computer. Besides that, it will probably be vastly slower than what comes with a new computer. I think that is not the best idea.
The only wat to really "trasition" between two archtectures that I know of is to copy configuration files over and have pacman dump a list of explicitly installed packages from the main repos. Then use that information to reinstall all those packages.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases. Or roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)

Would it be possible that saved passwords would work on both http and https version of the same site as some pages are switching from http to https?

Some sites are switching from http to https protocols and some sites run both. This creates some duality when you have saved passwords. You either save passwords for both versions of the site. And if you visit the https version for the first time you just have to go and look up the password as (personally) I don't remember all of my passwords.
Would it be possible that unless there are different passwords for different version of the site that firefox would use the one that it has already saved?

You will have to save the password again in case the submit URL and possibly other parameters change.

I am switching from a pc to mac and want to know how I go about transferring files from one to the other. There is a chance that I will have to hand my pc back before I receive my MacBook so I will need to transfer on to some sort of external hard drive.

I am switching from an acer laptop to a MacBook Pro. I may have to hand in my laptop before I receive my new MacBook. What is the best way to back up my files so that I can transfer them to my MacBook. I cloud cannot be installed on my laptop because it uses a version of windows that is older and doesn't support it. Hope someone can help.

Connect a blank powered external drive to the PC.
Right click on the Disk in the File manager and choose format: exFAT
(if it's a XP machine, first install exFAT from Microsoft and reboot)
navigate to your user account folders on the PC and drag and drop copy (or copy and paste) to the external drive.
(if a program has your files, then export them out first)
Hook up the drive to the Mac, and transfer files to the desktop or to their same appropritate folders.
Import photo's into iPhoto program, import music into iTunes etc and they will manage those files.
You can continue to use the external exFAT drive between Mac's and PC's
Do not format the drive NTFS or FAT, NTFS can't be written too by the Mac and FAT can't hold over 4GB sized files.
If you format exFAT on the Mac, it likely won't work correctly on the PC.
"Migration" type programs are a utter waste of time and effort between PC's and Mac's for the fact that only certain files (and no programs or anything else) will work between them, also it's a hassle and takes too long. So don't even bother with it.

Browse to the Mac page at http://roaringapps.com/. There you'll find hundreds (thousands?) of Mac applications listed with indications as to Lion compatibility.
Surely, there's more to Lion compatibility than merely whether the app is "Intel" or "Universal", as opposed to "PowerPC" (as shown under Software > Applications in System Profiler).
It's a bit surprising that nobody seems to have done an app that scans your system then looks up Lion compatibility at roaringapps.

Switching from MobileMe to iCloud - Need some HELP

I switched from my MobileMe account to iCloud, but I cannot delete my old MobileMe account. Every time I try to go to https://me.com/MOVE (as suggested by Apple), the site automatically re-directs me to https://me.com/FIND, and then tells me to go to iCloud to find my iPhone. I couldn't care less about finding my iPhone: I just want to delete my (at this point useless) MobileMe account.
Any ideas?
