Switching from single NIC to NIC bonding in "active" RAC

Hi
I have a 4 node RAC cluster on RHEL 4, running 10.2.0.3.0 in "semi-production".
"Everything" is multiplexed, except the NICs. The servers have 2 NIC ports one for public and one for interconnect.
If we add another NIC with 2 ports, is it possible to change the NIC configuration from single port to NIC bonding, without reinstalling CRS?
I can get a maintenance window, so this doesn't have to be done on the fly, I just need to know if its do-able.
I have checked some notes on MetaLink and for me it looks like this should be possible.
E.g. Note:436555.1 and Note:283684.1
Regards
Niklas

Nicke, Its very well doable and supported approach. You can use oifcfg to reconfigure the interfaces and there is no need to reinstall the CRS.

    My problem is the following:
    I switched from Winchester 3200 single core to Dual Opteron 170.
    The BIOS indicates it reading the both cores with the ACPI lingo.
    I did patch the driver according to AMD with their specified download.
    Now, when I start up the computer, I have to restart several times to get it to run but it does run although later locks up either when not in use or after an hour or so of gaming (mech warrior mercs)  ???
    I have checked the power supply voltages and they are as indicated in my profile, but I am wondering if the power
    supply is not the problem.  I know opterons' require a little more umph than normal single cores and this one is 4 years
    old.
    What do you folks think?
    I would really hate to reinstall windows if it just a power supply issue.
    Thanks in advance for you advise.

    Reinstalling the operating system seems like awful lot of work if its the power supply.
    But I appreciate the advice.
    This rig is about 3 years old.  I will probably wait until I have some time to do this.
    What drivers do you think I need to get the USB function again for now?
    Thanks.

    Get a decent PSU and re-test 1st, here can be found good PSU suggestions.

    Just delete them from device manager, then windows should detect and install them automatically.

  • Is it possible to switch from Office 365 online user management to Active Directory after Exchange online migration?

    If we utilize the Cutover method to migrate from on-premise Exchange (2007) to Office 365, which to my understanding will hand over user management/authentication to Office 365 online during the process, is possible to later switch from Office 365 user management
    to Active Directory (synced to a future local domain, or even possibly via AD federation single sign-on)? If so, how difficult is this process and is there any documentation available?
    Asking this because the organization  I'm working for plans to upgrade (re-do actually) its entire infrastructure. There will be a completely brand new domain/AD set up that's totally unrelated to the old one. At the same time, we also plan to migrate
    all emails (previously hosted locally on Exchange 2007) to Office 365 and get rid of local exchange. Now because we will set up new domain, we do not want to carry over the older AD to the cloud, hence we will not use the "Staged Migration".
    So the plan is to to use "Cutover" migration first, which means all authentications will become Office 365 managed. That's fine for now. But later, after we set up our new domain and AD controller etc, we'd like to have Exchange Online switch back
    to syncing with our new on-premise AD. We'd also like to consider the AD Federation Services if it's not too complicated to set up.
    Your advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

    In principle, you cannot sync back from the cloud AD to the on-prem, yet. But you can take advantage of the soft-matching mechanism once you have the new AD in place:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2641663
    Be careful though, as the moment you turn on Dirsync, all the matching users in the cloud will have their attributes overwritten. A very good idea is to do an 'export' of the cloud AD first, using the WAAD module for PowerShell and the Get-MsolUser cmdlets,
    which you can then use to compare or import data in the new on-prem AD. Some links:

  • How do I switch from single m2m Illustrator plan to full css suite annual monthly STUDENT plan?

    I appreciate any input but please don't waste your time posting links to Adobe's Help page; all it says is to come here (the forums) or try chatting.
    I sent a chat ticket-order in 3 days ago and haven't heard a peep back from Adobe.
    Don't post a link to the "Change Account" page either. The only option it gives is to go from my current month to month plan to the Cloud, annual monthly plan. The problem is I need to switch to a STUDENT plan and that option is not given.
    This is my first time dealing with Adobe customer service. Very disappointed. I've dealt with bad customer service....REALLY bad customer service, but hands down, bar none, my experience with Adobe's has been the worst so far.
    Could be that I'm new and simply overlooking an answer that is quite simple and obvious. Hopefully someone can help me here. However, if I get no answer here I'll be on my Twitter account, Facebook business page, which reaches on average 1.5 million people a week, and in any design forum I chance across on the internet sharing my experience with Adobe customer service.

  • Thinking about switching from single-app to full CC. Is it possible to switch back at a later date or am I committed to a year of full membership?

    Hi there,
    I'm currently paying for Flash but it looks like I may have to use Photoshop and After Effects too, so I was thinking about switching to the full plan. However if I don't end up needing Photoshop or After Effects is it possible to downgrade my membership to single-app in the future?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Switching from single app to educator...

    I purchased a single app license and then (upon realizing there was an educator version) switched to the educator license. Will I be charged twice?
    Thanks.

    Hi David,
    I can see that you have got two different subscriptions under your account . As per the initial statement that you have mentioned in your question that you only need the Student & Teacher Edition , I have cancelled the single subscription for you and refunded the amount back to you as well.It would take around 3-5 working days to get back into your bank Account .
    Please do let us know if you have any other query as well.

  • Anyone switch from single line to Familytalk?

    I got my iPhone all set up but I want to switch to Familytalk to add the missis.
    I have a second iPhone on the way.
    What is the procedure you followed?

    We did. My partner got an iPhone and we moved to a family plan.
    When you get the phone, just call AT&T customer service. They'll change your plan to a family plan, and then add your wife's phone to it.
    They can handle the activation over the phone (you'll need the IMEI and ICCID from the box label). When she then connects the phone to iTunes, it will query the AT&T server, see that it's a phone that's already activated, and ask her if she wants to sync.

  • How to switch from Single App subscription to Photoshop Photography Program offer?[was:Subscription]

    I am Subscriber of Photoshop CC for one year, paying a monthly fee of EUR 12, 29. May I change my subscription in order to get the advantages of your latest special offer (ending 31.12.13), and if yes what do have I to do and what do I have to pay in case I would change the subscription?

    Renewal
    After the first 12 months, we will automatically renew your contract based on the current price of the offering.
    Adobe sales can not give me anything in writing of what the actual renewal price will be in dollars
    "the current price of the offering"  This current special offer is till December. 31, 2013 and will not exist at renewal time> It hard for me to believe that the price will remain $9.99 for the rest of my life though I am 72.

  • Successful Switch From Single CC to Photoshop Photography Program

    Today's the last day to sign up. Use Adobe Chat. Open 24 hrs. day, 7 days. Don't bother with the telephone. Clearly write out your situation, and what you want done. Save the chat dialog, in case you need it later. Look for and save the email confirmations. Here's what worked for me: "I purchased Photoshop CC August 12, 2013 (order # AD0089-----) for $9.99 per month for one year. Since that date, Adobe has offered unlimited $9.99 for the Photoshop Photography Program, which includes additional software. Has my account been upgraded to that newer program? If not, can you please do so? Thank you!"  In my case, the Adobe chatperson was probably juggling multiple chats at the same time. He cancelled my existing CC. Provided me the link to sign up for the Photoshop Photography Program. I signed up, and paid. I received two emails–1. canceling the old  (Your Creative Cloud membership has transitioned from Paid to Free), and, 2. confirmation of the new subscription (We received your payment - thank you! Here are the details about that order for your records). Success.

    Well it’s not easy it seems. Some got help in two minutes others, like us, nothing?????
    Perhaps it only works in the USA not in Europe?

  • Can you switch from single episode to season pass

    I have a couple of shows that I purchase as soon as they are released but I've noticed some of them are cheaper if you get a season pass and just let them download as they air. If I have already bought some, but not all of a season can I do a season pass without having to purchase the same episodes? And if I can do this, do they adjust the price to reflect the season pass price or do I have to pay for the previous episodes and the season pass?

    " And if I can do this, do they adjust the price to reflect the season pass price"
    No.
    "or do I have to pay for the previous episodes and the season pass? "
    Yes
    Unless something has changed very recently.
    Sorry.

    I was going through some of the Performance enhancements in BW 7.3. Could someone please explain what do the following mean?
    1. DSO Activation is changed from single lookups to package fetch of active table
    2. Optimized delta load for master data due to package fetch instead of single look-ups
    Thanks & Regards

    Just thought I'd post the resolution:
    1) Simply changing the Disc Media Type in the ProjectData folder does nothing. The dual-layer setting causes it to change from a value of 4 to 8 (guess that's no surprise), but iDVD still treats the drive as a single-layer drive and so you can't create a disc image based on a dual-layer disc.
    2) Turns out the folks from MCE sent along, after requesting it, a patch to enable dual-layer support in iDVD. From what I can tell from the .command file, it looks like it's probably just the HardMac.com hack repackaged for convenience. The don't offer it for download, but if you call or email them, they'll send it.
    Thanks again for your advice.

  • CSACS-3415 ACS 5.4 NIC Bonding / Teaming possible ?

    Hi Team,
    I know, this topic has been answered for the "old" 11x Appliances: not possible.
    Does the new UCS hardware change anything ?
    Can we bundle 2 NICs somehow to get interface redundancy ?
    If still not possible to configure that in ACS 5 itself:
    Can it enentually be done on the "hardware" level
    within the appliance firmware (UCS BIOS)  ?
    Frank
    (RHEL would provide NIC bonding,,, unfortunately its not accessable from ACS5 CLI)

    Yes it does. ACS 5.5 with the Cisco SNS-3415, Cisco SNS-3495, virtual machine, or CSACS-1121 platform allows you to use up to four network interfaces: Ethernet 0, Ethernet 1, Ethernet 2, and Ethernet 3.

  • GUIDE: Oracle VM VirtualBox and Oracle Linux NIC bonding

    Author: Dude
    Date: 01-Jun-2013
    Version: B
    Last updates:
    23-Jul-2013, changes required due to forum upgrade
    The following  is provided in the hope that it might be useful. If you wish to use it for the purpose of reference, presentation or education, please include the link or information to this forum posting. Thank you!
    What is Linux network interface bonding? Simply put, the Linux system provides a kernel driver, which can create a logical network device (bond) using 2 or more Network Interface Controllers (NIC) to accomplish link-aggregation and adapter fault-tolerance. For more information, please see the Deployment Guide at https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/
    The channel bonding interface supports several modes of operation. In a typical active-backup set up for fault-tolerance, the system performs MII-based health monitoring of the network interface slaves (eth0, eth1) and assigns them according to bond options and interface availability. In active-backup mode (mode 1), only the current active network device is seen externally.
    Linux bonding for fault-tolerance under Oracle VM VirtualBox does not seem to function as advertised. Searching the Internet for more information shows that other people have tried to set up Linux bonding using various virtualization products, virtual host network adapter and bonding options, but without success.
    It appears the management of Media Access Control addresses (MAC) interferes with internal routing methods between the host and the virtual machine guest. Using the modinfo bonding command (fig. 1) shows a listing of available parameters for the bonding kernel module. The fail_over_mac parameter addresses the Mac address issue in VirtualBox.

                    /kernel/drivers/net/bonding/bonding.ko
    parm:           fail_over_mac:For active-backup,
                    do not set all slaves to the same MAC;
                    0 for none (default), 1 for active, 2 for follow (charp)
    Configuration Example
    Virtualization Product: Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.2.10
    VM Guest OS: Oracle Linux 6.4 (x64)
    VM adapter settings: Bridged Adapter, Paravirtualized Network (virtio-net)

    Note: If you wish to reset the network adapter names and MAC addresses used by the Oracle Linux guest system, erase the content of /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and restart the virtual machine.
    1. Create or modify the following configuration files:
    /etc/modprobe.d/bonding-eth0_eth1.conf
    alias bond0 bonding
    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0
    DEVICE=bond0
    IPADDR=10.0.2.12
    NETMASK=255.0.0.0
    GATEWAY=10.0.0.138
    DNS1=10.0.0.138
    DNS2=8.8.8.8
    ONBOOT=yes
    BOOTPROTO=none
    USERCTL=no
    BONDING_OPTS="mode=1 miimon=100 fail_over_mac=1"
    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
    DEVICE=eth0
    BOOTPROTO=none
    ONBOOT=yes
    MASTER=bond0
    SLAVE=yes
    USERCTL=no
    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
    DEVICE=eth1
    BOOTPROTO=none
    ONBOOT=yes
    MASTER=bond0
    SLAVE=yes
    USERCTL=no
    2. Restart the system or network services (root):

    # service network restart
    Configuration Test
    Enter the following commands as user root to verify proper operation of NIC bonding:
    Fig. 3
    # tail /var/log/messages
    bond0: setting mode to active-backup (1).
    bond0: Setting MII monitoring interval to 100.
    bond0: Setting fail_over_mac to active (1).
    bond0: Adding slave eth0.
    bond0: making interface eth0 the new active one.
    bond0: first active interface up!
    bond0: enslaving eth0 as an active interface with an up link.
    bond0: Adding slave eth1.
    bond0: enslaving eth1 as a backup interface with an up link.

              UP BROADCAST RUNNING SLAVE MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
    During the above test, the client network connection from host 10.0.0.1 (ssh) was maintained without any noticeable interruption. As it can be seen from the syslog and ifconfig command output, the bond0 interface was automatically assigned either the MAC address of eth0 or eth1 and the fail-over worked as advertised.
    Good luck!
