Switching hardware from Dell to Apple. Use Mostly Windows

I need a little help. Don't shoot until you read the end. I am a business owner who runs equipment dealerships in AZ and CA and also a gadget hound. Have had 20 PDA's, etc and am always looking for the best hardware setup. I have a Dell Lattitude D820 with docks at home and office with 24" monitors. Running Exchange Server and Small Business Server. Have switched to alot of Apple hardware including iPhone recently. I run Adobe Creative Suite, ACT, AutoCAD LT, etc. all in PC. Not a normal business owner user. Sometimes have them all open and going.
I will be using Windows for 90% of what I need to do.  I am concerned that if I buy a new MacBook Pro loaded up and I will be running Windows XP or Vista most of the time if I will be driving myself crazy without a dock. Bookendz doesnt count. Ex: In Windows mode, will the MacBook still awake upon jogging a bluetooth mouse, etc.? I want to make the switch but have a great setup now docking wise. However, the specs on my two year laptop don't hold up anymore.
Any ideas on how this transition will be. Is there anyone else out there mostly using Windows on a Powerbook Pro with external monitors? Is it a hassle to plug and unplug the DVI connection, power, etc? I am thinking of getting two bluetooth keyboard and mouse setups and then using the power and DVI only. Seems simple. Again, I don't know how that will work with Windows mostly being on.

Good question. A couple of things:
No other laptop out there has the combination of size, power, design and features that the MacBook Pro (sorry) has that I can see. I can get a 512 meg video card but with a web cam, backlit keyboard and 1" high? Not from Dell. I can get the same processor and hard drive as well but in heavier configurations. I am obviously paying for design and weight and some features. The cons are the lack of dock and the price but I don't mind. I also do use the Leopard OS for personal stuff but even iTunes I will have to run in Windows as it syncs my iPhone with Outlook on Exchange through CompanionLink software. I like working in Leopard but right now my world is built around Windows. I also like the learning more about the Leopard OS. Does that help?

  • Burning pictures from EMAC to be used in Windows

I tranferred pictures from my digital camera onto an EMAC. After several tries at trying to export the pictures to Finder, changing the format of the pictures to be Windows compatible and tranfering them to a CD for burning, only 1/4 of the pictures burned sucessfully. When I go back and try to look at the pictures on the CD, all the files are there but are listed as having 0 bytes. I'm not sure what i am doing wrong.

    First welcome to the discussions.
I have found that most programs generate .jpg formated pictures, however when you place them on a cd it is a good idea to rename each picture.
    Example:
    kid.jpg
    dog.jpg
    cat.jpg
Using all lower case followed by .jpg this allows Windows programs as well as Mac iPhoto, Preview to recognise the JPEG format.
In some rare cases I have also found it neccesary depending on how these images were generated to use a Photo Program to re-format them to JPEG.
Create a Folder and after you have re-named your photo's with the .jpg all lower case you place them in that folder.

    Use good quality Media,
You will also find that using one of Roxio's Software's will make your burning expieriance much easier.

  • How can i download movies from a website that use the windows media extention it specifically sends the media through the windows media extension

'''there is a website i visit frequently and i have tried all the downloader extensions how do i download the movie from the sight if it uses windows media extension'''

Thanks for the excellent advice, all! I started with BitPim, and have hit a bit of a deadend with the application not being able to detect the phone - I can manually set the port location to the phone (and it shows up as an LG device), but then get a "false" and no connection. So I suspect that's something on the phone end blocking access from a computer via USB... I'll dig around on that a bit.
Thanks, also, for the suggestion to buy a BlueTooth adapter - that's my next step in this... although after reading the link/review about Verizon's attitude toward open file transfer, I may be severing my ties with them. I've been happy with the phone service, but this is really annoying.
This is what happens when you assume that Mac people exist in the rest of the corporate sphere..! To think that I would assume that a phone/camera with a USB cable would actually be capable of connecting to a computer and transferring files!
    Thanks, again!

  • Problem printing from old XP machine using new Windows 8.1 machine

Hi....I have a new HP Envy laptop with Windows 8.1. It is hard-wired to my Verizon
FIOS router box and there is also a printer connected to the Envy laptop. I also
have an old XP box in another room that connects wirelessly to the same Verizon
    router.
Before I got the new Envy laptop, I had two XP boxes "networked" together
and they could share some documents and I could also print documents from either
machine but I cannot get the XP box to network with the Envy laptop or even print
    something from the XP box.
Can XP boxes no longer network with Windows 8.1 boxes? Is there any way to at
least get the XP box to share the printer that is connected to the Envy laptop?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
This is probably better answered on the PC forum but make sure that printer sharing is enabled on the 8.1 pc. Go to PC settings>network> enable device and printer sharing

  • Switched from AOL to Apple account - now cannot use songs on 2nd computer

Hi there hope someone can help me
i changed (deleted) my old account 'cause my e-mail and billing changed (from AOL to Apple ID).
So far so good, after that there are no problems on my main computer.
But I also registered my laptop as a 2nd user for my music. Since I changed the account everything was ok.
But now iTunes will not play the "old" music (bought with the "deleted" AOL account). Everytime when i want to play a song it asks me for the old (AOL) account, but naturally it does not exists and login fails. When I use the new account to register iTunes on the "old" songs, it shows an succesful login but i still cannot play the song (the login window shows againg).
How can I "switch/ transfer" the songs from my old account (AOL) to the new one (Apple ID).
    Register/ De-register won't help.
    Thanks for any help
    Tom

What exact error message will you receive when trying to login with your old AOL ID?
Also take a look at http://www.apple.com/de/support/itunes/musicstore/email/

Hi Robert and welcome to Apple Discussions,
There are adapters available that convert micro cards into fullsize ones.
You will also need a USB card reader if you do not have one.
    Good luck,

  • Switched to Apple--Can I use my Windows Elememts 6 serial # if I download new

I just switched to Apple--Can I use my Windows Elememts 6 serial # if I download new OS X software from Adobe?  Do I have to purchase again?

No you will not be able to swap your Windows Photoshop Elements 6 serial number and install media for a Macintosh Photoshop Elements 6 serial number and install media.  We do offer this but only for the current version which is version 10.  You do qualify for the upgrade pricing for Photoshop Elements 10 however.  You can find additional details at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements.html.

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

I can't seem to find an app that costs my available balance. iTunes said I need to spend it ALL before I can change stores. This means I cannot totally change stores.... Hopeless.

  • I have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

i have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

    rebel1568,
All Photoshop versions through CS6 came with platform-specific licenses, either Windows or PC.  You could get a cross-grade of platform swap at a nominal cost but not for older versions, only for whatever Photoshop versions was current at the time.
CS3 is totally out of the upgrade or cross-grade loop.  You'd have to buy a new license for CS6 Mac or subscribe to Photoshop CC, as Trevor points out.
Curt Y is correct in that CS2 will not run on current Mac-Intel machines.  You would need a used Mac G5 or G4 with a PowerPC (IBM) CPU, which have been obsolete since mid 2006.
Of course, you could run your Windows  on your Mac if you installed and ran BootCamp or Parallells.

I'm trying to print an Ancestry document from an iPad 2 using air print.  The printer is a Canon MG5350 (on the Apple approved list) I have no difficulty printing but only in portrait format.  I've tried changing printer preferences from my computer but even though the Canon accepts the changes it will not print landscape - can anyone advise please?

    Hi,
How do you connect the printer to the XP machine ? If USB, you need to make that machine as a Print server. Please try this:
